An ode to DF118 (Dihydrocodeine 30 mg tablets)

df118 smile

DF118 [sixthseal.com] has got to be one of my favorite easily obtainable prescription opioids. It’s great – in fact, it’s so good that I just had to make a tribute to it. The 30 mg dihydrocodeine tartate (DHC) tablets are arranged to form the words D, F, 1, 1, 8.

There is a happy emoticon at the bottom too – commonly known as a smiley.

DF118 shares a lot of aspects with codeine, except codeine gives a better nod compared to DHC, which has a strange stimulant quality to it. DF118 is twice as strong compared to codeine and it’s great for staving off opiate withdrawals (and getting off as well ;)) and the addition of hypnotic benzodiazepines like Dormicum (midazolam) can produce the much sought after “opiate nod”. πŸ™‚

Excuse me while I enjoy…er, I mean, force myself to consume this horrible medication which I have to take as an abortive migraine remedy. πŸ˜‰

I shall reply all comments tomorrow.

Guess how many 30 mg DF118 tablets this arrangement contains? =D

  1. Cherie: DF118 is now illegal in Malaysia. It’s been unlisted from the Pharmaceutical Bureau of Malaysia. There are similar prescriptions though. πŸ˜‰

  2. Hey man,
Are you sure DF-118 is banned? It may just be highly restricted to hospitals or emergency departments. It is still listed on the Malaysia MIMS database. See below:

It is also listed in the 2014 (4th Edition) Malaysia National Essential Medicines List (under opioid analgesics). See for yourself:

    • Hello Ian!
I was informed that it was so back in 2006 and to the best of my knowledge, it is not easily obtainable anymore, if not downright banned. To be fair, I haven’t been looking after that since I switched to oxycodone (OxyContin, OxyNorm etc) which is a lot stronger.
I have seen DF-118 60 mg dihydrocodeine for sale in Cambodia (Siem Reap, 2013) but I haven’t seen it in Malaysia.
BTW, I always go to hospitals to get my medication, this one was obtained from the ER of a private hospital. πŸ™‚
You can only get stuff like this from hospitals nowadays, not clinics.
Good find on the pharmacy link. Hmm…I think the list is a little like the UN list of approved medication that a country must have to provide a MINIMUM standard of care but oftentimes the medication isn’t available, I noticed dihydrocodeine in the list, but oxycodone is not and I’m 100% certain that you can get oxycodone in Malaysia in the form of OxyContin and OxyNorm as late as 2012:

It’s a mystery, but there are stronger opioids out there like oxycodone and buprenorphine which is also easily available, the latter in the form of Suboxone.
Oh, and I know Pharmaniaga still produces DHC but I’m not sure if it’s the pure 30 mg ones or the 10 mg dihydrocodeine with 500 mg paracetamol:
      http://sixthseal.com/2003/07/malaysia-30-mg-codeine-and-10-mg-dihydrocodeine-in-malaysia-for-60-cents-each/
They might still produce generics but maybe just the 10 mg ones with APAP (500 mg) or for export only.
Thanks for commenting, let me know your thoughts.

  3. Wow!
Thanks for the prompt and in-depth report.
I’ll take your word for it man. I’m aware of the UN list too, which is why I was suprised to hear of the ban. I haven’t been looking for it; I was just curious as to its availability in MY.
You’ve clearly missed your calling as a pharmacists (much like myself). However I’m unable to tolerate working in a claustrophobic, enclosed spaces, under bright fluorescent lights for 10 hours a day. Power to them. I just want the meds, if you know what I mean. Tee hee hee.
Thanks for sharing your insights on Veritas’s’ ‘chemical indulgence’, especially with all the religious BS and anti-drug propaganda in MY. The focus needs to be on harm reduction. Better safe than sorry. Look at the HIV and Hep C rates for example. Brushing it under the carpet and the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy is doomed to create a health crisis and propagate criminal cartels.
The “Just Say No” propaganda doesn’t work, never has, never will. People will always be curious. Drug abuse is a mental health issue, not a crime that deserve a death sentence. Jesus!
It must be carthartic to just be so free and honest about Veritas’s endeavours. Say hello to him for me. I always come back for a read of the older material, just like Erowid, to relive of the old days. Sigh. Bit too old for that carry-on these days however. Thats life.
Take care, and keep up the excellent work!
