Mukah – The journey

bus mukah

I went down to Mukah for a night’s stay at Kingwood Resort, Mukah during the weekend. Mukah is the nearest beach to Sibu and is about 144 km away. The journey takes approximately 4 hours despite the relatively near proximity due to the road conditions – there are potholes galore and parts of the road is made of gravel.

bus ticket

I didn’t want to drive down to the resort since it would cost me more to change the suspension of the car and all that after the ordeal it’s been though in Mukah. ;) I figured taking the bus would be cheaper so I headed down after work on Saturday with my travel companion Clare. It’s RM 18.70 for the Sibu – Mukah ticket and we took the 2:30 PM bus down.

bus inside

I had gotten a really good deal for the Kingwood Resort in Mukah thanks to Henry. It cost me RM 160 nett for a Premier Room – Sea View with breakfast for two and lunch thrown in to boot. The published rate for that room is RM 368 nett during weekends and peak season. Cheers for that!

clare

The rooms comes with two queen sized beds which is a Good Thing (TM) since Clare claims she snores in her sleep. Heh!

joker

I had gotten supplies the previous night (namely alcohol) and we found this drink called Joker. I figured having some liquid entertainment would help with the tedious journey to Mukah. ;)

It’s a really crappy locally produced liquor but I can’t help but get two bottles of it just coz of the “Why so serious?” quote from The Dark Knight.

bus blurry

The journey took 4 hours and the road was so bumpy that I couldn’t even take a proper shot. See all the photos all blurry one. It’s also senget a bit due to the potholes and all that. I’m really glad I didn’t drive my car down – it would wreck havoc on it.

paddy fields

The view is scenic though if you’re into paddy fields and all that. I managed to get some sleep and you can tell the bus driver to drop you off at the Kingwood Resort in Mukah (which is about 14 km away from Mukah town).

arrival

The fresh breeze from the sea and the beach made it all worth it though. :)

  1. Just back from Kuching. Driving all by myself for 360km. Took me 6 and half hour drive due to multiple stopping.
Wondering why a small town which have such a terrible road condition would surprisingly have an airport?

  2. Count ur blessings! I went by road…in a bus long ago before they improved the road…and still had a ferry (Still got or not?). It was like a roller coaster ride!!!…I haven;t been there by road since so don;t blame me for the condition of the road! LOL!!

  3. HB you can tahan meh in a room with a lady. Futhermore after you wash down with ‘Joker’ sure you become ‘siaw siaw’ ;p

  4. willchua: I don’t know. It’s interesting though, there aren’t any flights to Mukah nowadays from Sibu. Only from Kuching and Miri.
suituapui: Nope, there’s no ferry anymore but the roller coaster bit is still true. Haha!
Roland: Haha! I don’t lah. You’ve never even seen me drink. I’m very sober one. :)
I’m a very good travel companion. Very gentleman one. :) Ask Clare.

  5. Mukah? I tot u went to Kuching’s beach. Hehe.
Hubby will travel to Mukah on this coming Wednesday. Gonna visit the hospital and health office. Will be back on Friday, so I will have chance to drive his car and bitchin’ around during lunch break. LOL.
Nice view, i mean the beach. so serene.

  6. Cokelatrawkz: It would be a bit of a waste to drive down to Kuching for the weekend since I work on Saturdays. Got holiday can lah.
Yeah, Mukah is a very nice place but the resort can be a bit on the expensive side. Kingwood also has a new hotel in town which is much cheaper. Have fun this week! :)

  7. what an amazing view! ah i wish i could go on holiday atm, stuck in freezing melbourne weather, bet u dont miss that
Get a decent break from reality?

  8. nkwai: It’s a nice beach retreat. However, if you want to just go to Mukah, staying at the new Kingwood Hotel (just completed this month) would be a cheaper option. It’s more convenient too, located right in town.
Clare: It gets better after you drink a little bit more. The first time I drank it, I was aghast at the aftertaste. Sugar rush. It wasn’t so bad with the second bottle and that other cheap liquor we got in Mukah. Heh!
Tom: Melbourne winter…no, I have to admit that it’s one of the things I didn’t miss. It gets dark way to early and that depresses me. :)
Yeah, had more than a bit of fun during the break. Cheers!

  17. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  18. There are some interesting points in time in this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner as well

  19. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
