You are a You:nique snowflake

hqnine

It was getting dark and I’ve been on the road for close to an hour. I stopped to ask for directions multiple times but I get conflicting instructions and end up driving around in circles. However, there is (neon) light at the end of the tunnel – I spotted the HQnine signage at TTDI! I was supposed to meet up with Nicholas for a couple of drinks at HQnine…it’s more comfortable than a rat-infested roadside mamak, that’s for sure.

speach

It seems that we have (inadvertently?) gate-crashed an event – it was a sneak preview at Alliance Bank’s new You:nique credit card. Except they call it the Picture Card, and with good reason too – you can put your own photo (or any other photo for that matter) on the face of the card! I don’t have any reservations against admitting my narcissistic tendencies – I can already imagine my likeness on the face of the credit card. Imagine the looks you’ll be getting when you pull out a credit card with your photo on it from your wallet! =D

younique

The card face is a tabula rasa – that’s “blank slate” for those of you who failed Latin. πŸ˜‰ You get to choose what goes on top of the credit card. It’s revolutionary! You can either upload your own photo or choose a photo (except anything from goat.cx or veritas’ archives) and personalize your credit card!

We were subjected, er…I mean treated to a presentation by the good people at Alliance Bank about the features of the You:nique Picture Card. The website has a very user-friendly step-by-step process to guide you through the process of creating your very own personalized credit card.

pam

The presentation concluded with a question and answer session, with the poor people at Alliance fielding all sorts of stupid questions. My apologies, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people…with yours truly being one of them. πŸ˜‰ I managed to glean quite a few details about the card that night from the barrage of questions I unleashed.

options

The amazing thing about the You:nique picture card is that you can choose the features you want!

Bargain hunter?

Choose Great Rebates – it gives you a 2% cash rebate for ALL retail purchases! Cash rebates regardless of where you shop…I can smell the demise of retail-credit card partnerships for specific store rebates. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. πŸ˜‰

Strapped for cash?

Choose Great Rates – it offers a flat finance charge of 9% per annum instead of the 18% other banks are charging you right now. I think this plan is going to put a lot of loan sharks out of business – interest rates are finally dropping below the “unlicensed credit facilities” benchmark. Heh! It’s perfect for people like me, who spend more than what they earn. πŸ˜‰

Love rewards?

Choose Great Rewards with its 2x (that’s DOUBLE) points reward for every retail purchase. You don’t have to wait for “promotion periods” – Alliance gives you TBP (Timeless Bonus Points) so you get twice the bang for your buck every time you swipe. It’s “promotion period” 24/7, 375 days a year with the You:nique credit card*!

* Except for leap years. It’ll be 366 days a year for leap years. Scared you with the asterisk, didn’t I? πŸ˜‰

girls

It’s the first credit card in Malaysia to offer you the chance to personalize the face of the credit card. It’s also the first to allow you to CHOOSE the type of reward scheme you want! They agreed to match my credit limit, so I’m going to get one…a sixthseal.com Alliance Bank You:nique card! I already have a couple of designs in mind to customize the Picture Card.

…because just like you, I am a beautiful and You:nique snowflake. πŸ˜‰

  1. You’re really enjoying KY city life very much. Always with many lovely women. Which never saw you like that in Sibu. It like San Francisco city life too.

I just got robbed last night by 5 people on 3 motorcycles in Bangsar last night. 3 of them had knives and being outnumbered and outpowered (?) I was relieved of my wallet and my cell phone.
I’m going to get the same SIM number back from DiGi but meanwhile if you have a burning urge to call me, I can be reached at 03-7803 4044.
I have lodged a police report and am going through the tedious process of getting my MyKad and driving license replaced. Credit cards have been cancelled. It’s a good thing I’m broke this month so I only had RM 100 in the wallet.
I had to tell the taxi guy to wait for me while I go up and get cash to pay him. Sheesh.
I wake up today and find that my electricity has been cut of, no thanks to the ex-tenant. I thought my landlord has settled the issue but apparently not according to TNB.
Thus, I am without power (since WiFi and notebooks actually need power to run) and without a cell phone.
Thanks to Suanie, who’s office is just beside my condo, I am going to Google Maps TNB in PJ and settle the outstanding amount. Thank God for cash reserves in the house.
Oh, and I guess I was lucky in a sense, coz the fellas just wanted my wallet an cell phone. They probably were too dim to realize that I was carrying a dSLR slung over my shoulders. Also, one thing to be glad about is the RM 3k + HTC phone I had at my back pocket. It was review unit passed to me by a fried who took pity on me getting lost all the time, so thus I temporarily have a GPS phone.
Good things: dSLR still with me, HTC phone still with me. =D
Catch you all later, going to TNB now.

  3. hb. track back 28 years. i am in your shoes. listen to one who has been there, done that, albiet on the other side of the world. it took me 25 years to pay off the credit card sharks. over the years, mine built to 80,000 us. just cc debit. trying to live beyond my means, and impress others. i am now free, and i mean that with all my heart. free. i was lucky, sold some stuff, and paid the bloodsuckers off. i keep one card, for travel, hotel, car rental etc… but it is paid off each month, never more than 200 us.please save youself some heartbreak, and do not run up a big balance. i probably sound like an older uncle. that’s ok. learn from me, and don’t do the same stupid shit i have done. allow me to save you many sleepless nights. sorry for the way this post looks, but i broke my left wrist yesterday, and am typing with one hand. the world is at your feet, hb. i pray you will not encumber your journey with needless debt. it sure is easy to get, but hard to get rid of. kind of like fleas. please learn from me. of course, you won’t, but i will pray for you, and perhaps you can pray for me, who has been there, done that, and wishes you only the best, while not looking too lame.

  4. My power just got back on. I’m pretty bushed from driving around and getting lost while getting my power, MyKad, driving license, ATM card etc sorted out today. Full update tomorrow about the incident. Cheers!
I’m going to sleep now. Queuing up and navigating the maze of KL/PJ to get my documents sorted out has been tiring.

Marlboro Guy: Heh! Very witty. This was last month, my friend. It happened in December. πŸ™‚
I have a massive backlog of posts.
davidlian: Yes, they do, just need to swipe 12 times a year. πŸ™‚
purefaith: Haha! Love your witty comment. Anyway, this happened last month, which was technically last year. πŸ˜‰
    Daz: Never, it’s a joke. πŸ˜‰
jess: Haha! I know, but it’s fun being corny. πŸ™‚
    anon: Alas, my math. Fixed.
Ediη₯ž: Nope, unless you mean a rooster. πŸ˜‰
    cwee: Thanks buddy. Fixed. πŸ™‚
Rambling Mind: Nope, this was last year. But I did fall off the wagon once, lasted half a month. Thus, I shall continue again straight into the middle of February. No big deal, AA taught me to just climb back on the wagon.
Simon Seow: Nope. You sure it’s ready to go live? I was under the impression it was not to be leaked out. πŸ˜‰
Vickie: The population density is higher over here, that’s all. πŸ™‚
    It’s more urban.
WEEN: The invites came courtesy of Nuffnang. πŸ™‚
Darren: Well, you can always do the transfer balance trick so they won’t charge you interest. πŸ˜‰
    vkeong: Yeah, fixed that. Cheers!
Ediη₯ž: Nope, no nudity either. πŸ™‚
ShaolinTiger: You were mentioned a lot of times mate, one of the more recent ones I can remember being here:
    http://www.sixthseal.com/2008/12/centerpoint-pj-is-the-center-of-the-world.html
…but we’ve not been out since, coz you and Kim have been obsessed with ze canine. πŸ˜‰
e: Yeah, was an easy target, unfortunately.
purefaith: Oh well, it happens. At least I still have my dSLR. I’ll write about what happened later.
Mellissa: Thanks for your concern! πŸ™‚
I’m fine, it’s just incredibly tedious to get everything replaced especially since I don’t know KL roads well (which was why I didn’t drive that night).
eiling: A partial body shot probably, with “sixthseal.com” somewhere in the design and a phoenix. πŸ™‚
tom: It’s always a pleasure to read your comments and learn from you, o wise one. πŸ™‚
I am managing my credit card debts relatively well, at least paying the minimum to avoid interest. It’s getting better now. Cheers!
