My name is Legion

tranquil

I was at Belum Rainforest Resort a couple of weeks ago and the tranquility of the place is a nice change of pace from my usual chaotic lifestyle. Just like yin needs a yang, recharging at a place with lots of foliage and Zen-inducing soft, running water is revitalizing.

chaos-in-its-purest-form

Ultimately though, I thrive on bedlam, anarchy, and pandemonium. It’s like that verse “My name is Legion, for we are many (demons)“. I like art which has an element of madness in it – this is why my tattoos are heavily inspired by inner turmoil.

Just a like tattoo, which is in effect customizing your own body, there is a new trend in personalizing your personal effects. You’ve seen self-customized phones and dSLRs by people adding some bling to it, usually via beads and such. However, you can now truly customize your own notebook and MAKE IT YOURS.

flames

One thing about notebooks – you want to feel proud toting it around town. You probably use it while out and about e.g. surfing at your local Starbucks. You don’t want to be discreetly opening your notebook and face the wall coz you feel embarrassed about the dull and drab colors right?

dell-design

Dell just came up with their Studio product range which includes allows you to choose from a wide range of artwork and colors for your notebook. I like the Mike Ming’s Sea Sky design on the Studio 15 coz of the art reminds me of late van Gogh paintings. I’ll want the model with the new Intel Core i7 coz it has a fast processor, a healthy graphics card (512 MB ATI Radeon HD 4570) and a large 500GB hard disk drive.

make-it-yours

They’re also running a contest to celebrate your individuality by self-expression. You create your own design and submit it online! I decided to do one based on my phoenix tattoo with a psychedelic twist to it.

phoenix design

I started by taking a photo of my tattoo and tracing it out before adding in the other elements.

This is the design I submitted!

Dell Make It Yours Design

The closing date of the contest is on the 5th of February. The prize is a Studio 15 laptop featuring your very own design and a RM 5,000 cash voucher.

Nifty, eh?  It’ll be magnificent to have a notebook that’s one-of-a-kind coz it’s your own design. You can join the contest here.

MAKE IT YOURS!

(and vote for my design here)

    Vote for my entry? πŸ˜‰
debbie: Cheers! I did that a couple of years back, part of a plan to cover the entire back with a cohesive theme. πŸ™‚

  2. KY: Heh! I think A LOT of that had to do with me being very…hands off about the designing part. πŸ˜‰
Tan Yee Hou: Haha! Like I said, I was very hands-off on the whole designing bit, someone better than I in POH-toshop helped me a lot with the design.
Of course by “helping a lot”, I mean literally doing the entire thing for me. πŸ˜‰

  3. hb its been awhile but you are christian right?
those damn white took over your country and turned everyone into jesus freaks.
and now they worship jesus who “to them” is white which is bullshit. what the hell is a white man doing in jerusalem.
there is no such thing as faith or hope its all based on consequences and luck. everything is biological. we just another form of virus that our goal just like all other viruses such as the smallest to the largest like solar systems, every-things job is to reproduce. and when you die you become part of everything and you don’t exist, but humans fear that cause they know life is meaningless so they goto religion and lie to themselves that there is a heaven and hell.
WEEN: People always end up the way they started out. No one ever changes. They think they do but they don’t. If you’re the depressed type now that’s the way you’ll always be. If you’re the mindless happy type now, that’s the way you’ll be when you grow up. You might lose some weight, your face may clear up, get a body tan, breast enlargement, a sex change, it makes no difference. Essentially, from in front, from behind. Whether you’re 13 or 50, you will always be the same.
    HB: Are you the same?
    WEENr: Yeah.
HB: Are you glad you’re the same?
WEEN: It doesn’t matter if I’m glad. There’s no freewill. I mean, I have no choice but to chose what I choose, to do as I do, to live as I live. Ultimately, we’re all just robots programmed abritrarily by nature’s genetic code
    HB: Isn’t there any hope?
WEEN: For what? We hope or despair because of the way we’ve been programmed. Genes and randomness, that’s all there is and none of it matters.
HB: Does that mean you’re never going get married and have children?
WEEN: I have no anent desire to get married or have kids. But that’s beyond my control. Really, it makes no difference. Since the planet’s fast running out of natural resources and we won’t make it into the next century.
HB: What if you’re wrong? What if there is a God?
WEEN: That makes me feel better.

  4. WEEN: Heh! I’m not a Christian per se (depends on what your defination of a Christian is really). I was born and raised as a Christian and I do know the scriptures and doctrine (at least from the Protestant perspective) but I don’t go to church. Does that make me a Christian?
I do what Christians would call “sin” on a very regular basis and feel no remorse about my excesses. πŸ˜‰
I would call myself an agonistic. πŸ™‚
fresh: Haha! The end justifies the means. πŸ˜‰
Well, it’s not entirely fake, that actually IS my tattoo which I took the trouble *cough* of actually taking a photo of before my friend helped me to trace it (she has a steadier hand) and I gave “artistic direction” e.g. how the design should look like. πŸ˜‰
Does that make me the designer? πŸ™‚

  6. ah nel: Hmm…I don’t think I want another phoenix, but am planning to add flames around – a scene from hell with angels and demons fighting at the back, extending to the front and arms. That would be the Final Masterpiece, need to find someone good enough to do it and make it all gell together.
The Celtic cross above is a nice header and I can imagine it going around to the phoenix, all I need is someone who’s good in ink. πŸ™‚
WEEN: Dude, I read it all! That’s why I said agonistic – refering to your last bit, what if there is a God to which you replied “That would make me feel better”.
    You’re an agnostic too. πŸ™‚

ah nel: Yup, I love Borneo Headhunters, Ernesto did my tattoo. Ah, new tattoo place eh? Can, I’ll go check it out next time I’m in Kuching. Cheers mate! πŸ™‚
dustbin: Hello troll! Long time no see! πŸ™‚
Negerkung: Hey, that’s a very, very good question. Who owns the copyright to a tattoo? It’s interesting eh?
I’m inclined to believe that the person with the tattoo does coz you pay for BOTH design and the service (tattoo) itself, thus each variation/custom drawn one belongs to you.
However, the Celtic cross design solely belongs to a friend of mine who drew it for me (Hello James from loopymeals!).
    Interesting eh? Tattoos and copyrights?
    Now you’ve made me think…

  12. Dude, make sure the Celtic cross artwork is kept somewhere accessible by a designated person, would be totally Sixthseal spirit (TM) to have it etched on your headstone. We put a pretty cool phrase on my dad’s.

  35. If SE was smart (and had a heart) they’d make this thing for every carrier. Take over Android, get buzz in the handheld arena again and take on Apple in a big way – don’t give this to AT&T and call it a day. I know SE hates CDMA but make it for Verizon and AT&T at the least, and Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile if you’re serious about this thing making an impact. It’s gorgeous and this is very exciting. The choice of touchpads instead of analog sticks is interesting. It could work, but odd since we know they are capable of thin nubs for sliders (Go).
