O woe! I lost in Resorts World Sentosa casino, chaos theory and the SGD 400 text message

resorts world sentosa casino

Dammit! I popped out of Universal Studios for a quick smoke (you get a UV chop for reentry) and the casino was just beside it. I had told myself:

last night. I passed by it on my way in but never thought about going in. It had an:

large blinking neon sign in my head.

…but I succumbed. *hangs head

I wanted a mere SGD 100 win – just one bet at the Baccarat table – that was how modest I was vs my 5 figure bets last time. I just exchanged SGD 200 for chips.

Thus, I put SGD 100 on a hot table where everyone else had their chips on Player as well, and also on Tie. I had a STRONG URGE to move it to Banker to ruin everyone’s mojo but I didn’t. I also wanted to bet on Tie since in my last sojourn to the casino it came out as a Tie the first time…but I didn’t.

Guess what?

Round 1:

Remaining chips: SGD 200 (no win or lose)

Round 2:
Banker wins with a fucking natural nine (Ace, 9)
Everyone was still on Player – literally thousands on the Player side and when the Tie came I had an EVEN STRONGER URGE to move my chips to Banker.

This would have ended in a happily ever after story with a small SGD 100 win (my aim) if that had been the case. It wasn’t.

Remaining chips: SGD 100

I moved to another table since there’s this dude exchanging money and I wanted to be fast.

Round 3:
I told myself, don’t let the pitfalls of being attached to Player dictate your bets. I didn’t listen. I bet on Player.
Banker Wins.

Remaining chips: SGD 0

I topped up another SGD 200 for the buy in. Now I have used SGD 400 (about RM 1,000) in the casino and decided to end it once and for all.

Remaining chips: SGD 200 (after another SGD 200 top up for a total of SGD 400)

Round 3:
I put SGD 200 on Player despite it being an obvious Banker dragon (roll) on the table.
Player came out with a 7, which I thought was pretty safe, considering Banker only had a 3.
Banker drew again for an 8.

Remaining chips: SGD 0 (again)

Considering I only brought SGD 300 over and I lost SGD 400 (which is technically SGD 200 if you recall that I won SGD 200 in Marina Bay Sands casino) I didn’t have any more money to bet since I used some money for topping up taxi fares, drinks at Ku De Ta and a souvenir at Battlestar Galactica.

I think I’m down to SGD 12 or so in my wallet.

I shouldn’t have gone in. I told myself the SGD 200 win at Marina Bay Sands casino was good enough but I went through that door anyway. I lost SGD 400 (about RM 1,000) in the process. It took just 10 minutes to lose that.

It seems that I’m cursed in Genting casinos. :p

I’m totally broke now and it’s all my fault. T_T

Oh well, at least they checked my age to verify that I was above 21. Small consolation. 😑

Chaos theory and the SGD 400 text message

You know how chaos theory goes right? Anyway, being broke is no fun, but looking back, if I didn’t lose in the casino, I wouldn’t have gotten a text message from an old friend (13 years since we first met).

It was technically two text messages and a phone call but it totally made my day. I mean, seriously, it’s damn worth it if chaos theory deems that must happen for this to happen. Heh!

Thank you for making my day. You know who you are. I still can’t wipe this stupid grin off my face. smirk

    • Sorry to hear that!

Well, I don’t know, Genting has been kind to me for about half a year (won every single time I went – couple of thousands) but after that came a horrific 35k loss so I quit gambling for 1 year until now. πŸ™‚

    • It’s ok to gamle is you use other peolle money. Ah Longs are generally very good people, they lend you money to play with, so you should borrow to the max. A million here and a million there, tentu tentu win.

But if you don’t then hide in JB lah. ha ha ha

      • Haha! Crazy ah bro, I’ll never borrow money coz I was in a partnership once where I lent money (blind partner – lower investment, lower returns, hands off on operations) but even though I’m supposed to be technically hands off you do get to see how they collect money. I was surprised at how much one of the guys we (meaning my partner) hired for just 1.5k per month was willing to go to collect our money.

Nah, I’ve been RUNNING the business, NO WAY I’m going to be a CUSTOMER of the business. πŸ˜‰

Yeah, it’s an Ah Long operation technically, but hey, I have plausible deniability coz I was just a blind partner. I could say that my partner was kind enough to bank in money to me every month. That’s why I agreed to a lower cut, I won’t take the fall for this kind of shit.

  1. Gamble what you can afford to loose. Always walk away when you are ahead. I know it sounds easy. Hard Rock casino is about 1 mile from my house. I luv playing Black Jack but told myself not to step inside cause the house wins most of the time.

    • Yup, that is very sound advice indeed bro! πŸ™‚

I totally agree, it won’t hurt that much normally, an SGD 400 (about 1k) loss but I’m kinda broke until next month.

Yeah, the odds are stacked towards the house. Good one mate, love your self control. πŸ™‚

    • That’s what I did last time…

I lost 15k in about 10 minutes and withdrew RM 20,000 to place on one single bet on the Roulette table.

Either I win back with a nice 5k profit or I lose 35k.

      I lost 35k.

      Heh! Never again. πŸ™‚

    • Well, I haven’t been inside a casino for over a year and seriously, this is VERY SMALL BETS compared to what I usually put. I was putting several thousand per bet in Genting just a year ago. πŸ™‚

Eh wait, it can’t be one year coz I went to Amsterdam and London just earlier this year…

      …so er…

    • Yup! In Baccarat, the highest number wins. Face cards (Kings, Queens, etcs) and 10 is just basically a “reset” – those are 0 figures and that’s the lowest you can get in bacarrat. The highest is 9 but there’s a two card draw minimum. There’s naturals where you don’t get to draw a third card but otherwise a third card is drawn if it’s closer to the lower end of the spectrum.

I had a good winning streak in Genting last year…but lost it all over several bets coz I was going higher and higher until putting 3k on a single game of bacarrat wasn’t even that exciting anymore.

    • Heh! Yeah, that’s what I figured too. I just had to check out Resorts World Sentosa casino to see how it compares to Genting. I thought SGD 100 would be a pretty safe and small bet but oh well, still had a lot of fun in Singapore! πŸ™‚

  2. Doesn’t look like you’ve sustainable luck in this kind of thing so just play a bit…and quit when you’re winning. You seem to win a bit initially…and then lose it all and lose big. I wouldn’t want to do anything like that but then again, that’s why I will always be poor… πŸ™

    • Yeah, that’s the thing, the house always wins in the end. The odds are stacked against the player. πŸ™‚

The key is to play for fun, win small amounts and be prepared to lose your buy in.

    • Yeah, if you bet large amounts, you can lose huge amounts in just a few minutes. I’ve lost 50k within a week (Auckland and then Genting) – that was why I quit high stakes gambling a year ago. 😑

        • I always have control this time. I left after I lost.

If it was me last time, I would have withdrawn cash from my credit card to bet again (that’s what I did last time also). πŸ™‚

I didn’t coz I don’t want to make the same mistakes again. I’ll leave when I lose my limit.

          Thanks! πŸ™‚

    • Heh! Investing (at least short term, making a quick buck) can be very risky too. 😑

…but I do agree, a balanced investment portfolio is important. πŸ™‚

    • No la bro! I was just kidding in the post. πŸ™‚

It’s always the luck of the draw. It’s 50:50 each time (at least close to that) for baccarat. It could have gone either way.

…if I had listened to myself and switched to Banker, I would have walked away winning. πŸ™‚
