Party 21 @ Genting

party 21

21. It’s the oft-quoted number where you magically experience a whole new life as an adult. It’s a coming of age celebration of freedom and independence.

keys

I was at the exclusive Party 21 event at Genting International Convention Center – it’s an invite-only party open to WorldCard members, and it comes complete with accommodations and drinks coupons.

You only need to bring yourself up. πŸ™‚

cablecar

I used the Genting bus and cable car combo. It’s actually a very convenient way to head up, just park your car at Dataran Car Park and you don’t even need to drive up. Pity that they’ve abolished the RM 1 per entry system in lieu of a RM 2 per day parking fee, but it’s still one of the best ways to go to Genting.

queue

I was actually up there just a couple of weeks ago with Fiona, using the same transportation method. I’m a Silver WorldCard holder so I can skip the formidable queue for the cable car using a priority lane. Heh.

21 party

This time, everything was sorted out so I just headed up slightly earlier and got my room key from Evon. I had enough time to freshen up before heading to dinner.

roast

Coffee Terrace has a great buffet going on at night. There’s various different cuisines to cater to every palate, from fresh sashimi to roast lamb.

You can even get your food custom cooked right before your eyes after choosing what you want.

cook

It’s perfect to line your stomach before a great night out. Heh.

dj nabila

Party 21 is hosted by DJ Nabila who was spinning the deck the entire night.

ivy genting

There were a lot of fun and games outside too – from arcade games to lucky draws.

genting party21

OMG this has gotta be the only photo where I look my age. HAHA! This was taken at the photo wall right before the entrance.

lucky draw

You can also get a chance at the lucky draw by liking the WorldCard Malaysia Facebook page.

ivy

I met Ivy there, who recognized me from my blog. She asked her friend to take a photo of us with her iPhone and I asked her friend if she could take another one with mine. Thanks for saying hello Ivy! πŸ™‚

performance

Anyway, it was a lucky day for me coz I rummaged around the lucky draw box and got…

win room

…the best prize!

It’s a free night’s stay at First World Hotel. w00t! Thanks Genting!

free hotel stay

I wanted to get one of the t-shirts instead, which you could redeem for 2 GP (Genting Points) but unfortunately they were all sold out. Genting Points are credits that is stored in your WorldCard. There’s also an awesome deal where you can get 10 drink vouchers for 3 GP too.

21

The party was in full swing when I got in. There are performances by pole dancers and stage appearances, including a memorable one which got everyone doing it Gangnam Style. πŸ˜‰

group

This is the bunch of us who went up that night. Jane is partially obscured in that photo…

jane

…so here’s another one with her.

peter

This is Steve, one of the friendly Genting staff I met that night in addition to Chee Wai, Evon and the rest. Thanks for all the assistance in checking in and drink vouchers!

I’ll let the videos speak for themselves, I had a blast that night!

genting party 21

You know what the best thing is? Party 21 comes with a complimentary room at First World Hotel so you don’t need to drive down after partying.

beer

That’s the awesomeness of being a WorldCard member. There’s a lot of benefits in being one, and not just for skipping queues either. πŸ˜‰

I’ve been one since 2007 and I get occasional text messages with free room offers and invites to exclusive events like this. Membership and application is free and you can see the latest promotions and contests at the WorldCard Malaysia Facebook page or the Genting website.

genting toll rebate

You can also get priority parking and best of all, a toll and petrol rebate from RM 50 to RM 300 by accumulating points. 1 GP = RM 1 if you do this and it’s a little known secret that you can get cold, hard cash by exchanging points for driving up. I love mine for the perks it gives me – you can also sign up for your very own WorldCard here! πŸ˜€

sleep

I had a lot of fun and after a night of partying, you don’t know how tempting a bed looks instead of the prospect of having to drive down. I slept till the next day before going back to KL, a lot better than drinking and driving.

dancing

Party on! πŸ™‚

    • Hey there bro! πŸ™‚

Yeah, I had fun, I got the invite twice. Heh. I’m a Silver Worldcard holder so I got that on my cell phone via SMS but also an invite from Genting/Nuffnang. You can opt in to invites from your cell, that’s where I get most of my Worldcard invites – just got one yesterday for 2 rooms, 2 night’s stay valid for the next month, together with 2 movie tickets, all for free.

I’m not sure if everyone gets the same deal though, what Worldcard are you holding?

Dataran Carpark is the best place to go up from (for me) – it’s close and they used to only charge RM 1 per entry. Now it’s RM 2 per day, but still cheap. I park there when I go to Singapore too.

Cheers bro and have a great weekend! πŸ˜€

  1. You certainly blend in well with the ladies… What? It was a photo wall? You mean they were not real live ladies, in the flesh? Hmmmm…. But you’re looking great there, buddy! Double thumbs up! Nah!!! You don’t look your age – always looking the same and looking good. Awesome party!

Well, those are real people standing there – models, I reckon. About the photo wall, that’s the most common word people use to call it, probably coz of the backdrop where you can have your photos taken. Heh.

Thanks for the kind comments mate, I can see crow’s feet and other signs of aging in that photo. Haha! Oh well, such is nature, can’t beat it. Cheers for that though, I’m coming close to looking my real age. πŸ˜‰

Yeah, I had fun there, and the best thing is I didn’t have to drive down afterwards so I just crashed at the hotel and got down the next day.

      Cheers buddy! πŸ˜€

Haha! Yeah, there’s a lane for Worldcard holders who are Silver and above, technically, that can only allow 2 people to go in (for Silver) but I once brought in an entire family who asked if they could tag along coz the line was really long.

That’s one of the benefits of having a Worldcard, I drive up occasionally but I find it easier to just use the bus/cable car system from Dataran Carpark. It’s reasonably priced and I can just chill and catch up on reading or talk to people while on the way up. Driving up isn’t that bad either, I just prefer to use this coz I can read in the meantime. πŸ™‚

Yeah, there are a lot of benefits to it, like skipping the long queue at the cable car. Heh. Go and apply for for one – membership is free, upgrades are possible too, I’ve been holding my Silver Worldcard since 2007.

Cheers and have an awesome weekend! πŸ˜€

Well, I took all of it using my cell phone – except the photo of me at the photo wall, that one is from the Worldcard Facebook page. I brought along my dSLR but unfortunately, the USB port on my notebook has gone all wonky and I can’t seem to get the new CF card reader to work. I’ll get another one to try, left the one that I’ve been using all the while in Singapore but I’ll be heading there soon anyway so I can pick it up.

Or I’ll just get a new one, CF card readers are really cheap nowadays anyway, got one for RM 28.

Your photos are really nice too! I love the one you tagged me on Facebook on, much clearer than mine. πŸ™‚

Have an awesome weekend Jane! πŸ˜€

Yeah, it was a lot of fun! I love the music and there’s cocktails in addition to beer if you want it too. You can get invites to events like this too, if you’re a Worldcard holder – I get offers and promotions like free rooms regularly on my cell phone.

In fact, I just got one yesterday, it’s 2 free rooms for 2 nights with 2 movie tickets for the month of November. Just apply for one, membership is free and you’ll get a lot of offers like this via email or they’ll text you, which is where I get most of my invites from. I think I put that as preferred method of communication when I signed up in 2007.

Cheers bro and have an awesome weekend! πŸ˜€

    • Hello Charmaine! πŸ™‚

Yup, I had a great time. Best part is the hotel is included in the party invite so you don’t have to drive down after – you can just crash for the night and then wake up the next day before heading back down to KL.

…or walk around a bit and enjoy the chilly air.

What type of Worldcard are you holding? I think the invites comes according to that and also some other factors e.g. this party is targeted towards the youth. Do you get invites via email or SMS?

I usually get mine via the latter. You can always log in with your Worldcard and check the status.

Hope that helps. Have an awesome weekend! πŸ˜€

  2. I can imagine the fun you had in there. I’m however not envious, not too keen on club parties just yet. The pictures are just as good to; my digital camera will never produce such beautiful night photos with that kind of lighting.

Heh, all hotel beds are tempting, even if one’s not been partying the whole night. They are so much more comfortable than our own mattresses at home. In fact, I think my Mom bought us the same type of pillows that the hotels are using to use. I must ask, are you still intending on that road trip to Muar? (You mentioned that in my reply to the post about the Subang rojak…)

    • Thanks Ciana! πŸ™‚

Well, I was using the camera on my cell phone, it’s really hard to take photos with this lighting conditions for me too. I just used Night Mode and snapped several photos and chose the best. Heh.

That’s the way I go when I know it’ll be hard to get good photos e.g. lighting, people bumping into you, people getting in the way etc.

Indeed! I totally agree with you! I also feel the same way about hotels – they feel better than my bed at home. Heh. It’s a nice feeling to be sleeping under clean and freshly pressed linen at night.

Yup, it sounds good! I’m up for it, when do you want to go?

Cheers and have an awesome weekend! πŸ˜€

      • The camera on my cell phone will never allow me to take pictures with this kind of lighting conditions. Either it turns out really, really dark or nothing will appear.

I won’t be going anytime soon, but I’ll be sure to let you know when I’m heading there. =D

        • Yeah, that’s how most cell phone cameras work, I got mine for the better camera feature. πŸ™‚

No problem, some other time then!

  3. HAH… free rooms or tickets at casino joints… the oldest trick in the book. Sure its free, but you end up paying for them (and ‘more’) at the gaming floor… hehe

ack, sorry again if I upset your sponsors…

    Reply
    • Haha! You know you don’t actually have to go into the casino to enjoy the party or complimentary rooms right? πŸ˜‰

However for punters, it is a really nice offer. If you are going to the casino anyway, getting a free room to stay while you’re at it is awesome!

      It’s a win-win situation.

      Cheers bro! πŸ˜€

  4. you’re so lucky. Party + free stays and all those other goodies. Looks like I should start applying for a Genting World Card too and start accumulating those points. So next time pinjam your silvercard can?!! *wink

    • Heh! Yeah, you get all those benefits from being a Worldcard holder. I redeemed a room for November! It’s a 2 rooms for 2 nights and also 2 movie tickets, all free – it’s an offer I got through my cell phone.

It’s really useful to have one – the points accumulated can be used to cash out in the form of toll and petrol rebates! πŸ™‚

There’s Genting Points (GP) and Worldcard Points (WP) and it’s quite easy to get both, just apply for one and start accumulating points and you an do whatever you want with it – get merchandise, exchange with rooms (for as low as 3 GP I’ve seen – equivalent of RM 3), or tickets to concerts.

I usually do the petrol and toll rebate thing though coz 1 GP = RM 1 and I can get about 15 GP in a session quite easily. πŸ˜‰

Haha! Sure sure, I can get you through to priority parking and all that but yeah, applying for your own would be best! When are we going next?

      Cheers Eiling! πŸ˜€

      • I don’t think it’s worth redeeming toll & petrol as you get only RM1 for 1GP. For room redemption, the exchange rates are much more attractive. You can redeem rooms for as few as 3GP, whereas cash or credit card purchases cost more than RM 90, working out to RM 30 for 1GP exchange rate. Just my point of view as I don’t gamble much and need to preserve my GPs.

Also, I’m less than pleased with the age restriction for Party 21, being aged 46. No invites for me. Boo.

    • Indeed it is! πŸ™‚

That’s what I love about Genting – the temperature there.

It’s a lot cooler (no pun intended) to party up there – no sweat at all, despite the packed crowd.

…and you can always move outside for a breath of fresh highlands air.

I’m going again in November – it’s a Worldcard promo I got through my cell phone.

      Cheers! πŸ˜€
