Whose side will you take?

Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi!

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is upon us again! πŸ™‚

olabola football

It’s another month of going to mamaks and watching the games in large projection screens on Astro, sleepy people at the office and lots of fantasy football games and I have been looking forward to this one for four (4) years!

Astro is also integrating a lot of social components into the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup this year. They have a portal called Whose side will you take? which has several different things going on all at once. There’s a face-painting app, fantasy football based on the games, fixtures of upcoming matches and more all on the same site so there’s easy access to everything from contests to news!

facepainting

The first one is a drive to show your support for your favorite team by painting your face in their colors! Don’t worry, you don’t actually have to get your face dirty if you’re concerned about that (boo, not a real fan :p) – the wonders of modern technology allows your face to be *virtually* painted!

Just allow the Facebook app access to your profile and you’ll have a cool profile picture to use during the World Cup season!

It’s a really cool app too, the way the colors are painted virtually on your profile picture is amazing, it’s really realistic! Best of all, it’s aiming to be the largest face painting drive so you get to be part of history!

fantasy football

There’s also the Ola Bola Fantasy Football where you can pick your dream team and see how you perform during the World Cup season! It can be as complicated or as easy as you want so it satisfies both hard core fantasy football fans and casual gamers.

I found it to be a lot of fun! I want a lot of customization so I chose my own players (you can choose 4 max from each country) but if you just want to get into it, the fantasy football app can automatically choose everything from the players to the team for you!

lucky dip

I suggest using the auto-pick if you’re new to fantasy football.

The best thing about this is that there are prizes to be given away! The best team in the Fantasy Football Olabola Edition will get:

First Prize
RM 5,000 + PlayStation 4 + FIFA 14 game

Second Prize
RM 3,000 + PlayStation 4 + FIFA 14 game

Third Prize
RM 1,000 + PlayStation 4 + FIFA 14 game

prediction

There’s also an app called the Olabola Football Predictor where you can show off your prediction skills in real time during the World Cup! I know people who would love this! If you’re always saying how good you are and how would have predicted the match right down to who got the first goal and the exact score, it’s time to put your mouse where your mouth is and you could win a foosball table!

world cup

I’ll see you all inside Ola Bola! Pick a side for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and come and challenge my uber powerful team if you can! My team is called SixthSeal.

  1. Bola Bola Mania!!! I am a fan of world cups over the years and used to bet like a crazy punter. Somehow I could not stay fully awake now like before. Signs of old age, sobs! You are still very young & robust! Go ahead and cheer for me! You will know my team later. So you have a Sixthseal team! Bravo!
BTW this round has given me some shocks to see the impossibles happening!

I have just updated my blog & quoted your name – happily. TQ.

    • Yeah, that was me too! πŸ™‚

I used to bet a lot on the matches last time, but never did bother during the past few World Cups. I didn’t even bet for fun this World Cup, I just watched and played fantasy football.

Too bad Australia couldn’t get out of Group B coz I was rooting for them. I actually watched the Socceroos play a match in Melbourne while I was studying there. I’ve been to Aussie Rules football matches too but prefer soccer.

P/S – Glad you liked the electric mosquito repellent!

    • Haha! Good guess mate! πŸ™‚

Germany came out 1st in Group G – no real surprise there, the upsets happened to other countries (bye Spain).

I know Australia historically never did “well” in World Cup but one year they went really far and I like to root for them coz they’re the only team I’ve ever watched live (Socceroos) except for Chelsea, which isn’t a national team but a BPL team.

    • I’ll go with Germany myself! πŸ™‚

Haha! I’ve been to Germany several times but I’ve never been to Brazil so I feel more of a connection there. We just came back from Germany and France not long ago, it was fun and I like the friendly German people more than Parisians, who are a lot like people in KL! πŸ˜€

You have to be a fan of football at least once every four years for World Cup! The entire world is watching! Haha!

  2. I’m watching the first half of the first match at 12am and go to bed. Then after wake up at 730 am, I watch the second half of the last match which starts at 6 am. Haha.

    • I can’t watch the matches in real time too! πŸ™‚

I can watch every single match from the very first day though, and I’m slowly going through it, although it’s a bit of a spoiler to get the results before you watch it.

I don’t think many people can watch all the matches in real time since most days there are 3 matches which equates to 6 hours per day at least if you count the pre-match show.

  3. FOREVER BRASIL & ARGENTINAAAA!! haha. i’m not super hardcore fan when it comes to soccer but they’re very very good teams! & ps: thanks for the comment you’ve left me.. i always enjoy reading what you have to say because you’re incredibly witty but deep at the same time. you’re a funny oneβ€” you have this honesty that is completely unmasked. i appreciate that a lot in a person. thanks for always reading my crap (‘:

    • Haha! The team I’m rooting for (Socceroos) are gone! 😑

Oh well, there have been a lot of surprise exits for the traditionally good teams too.

Thanks for that! I’ve been trying to follow some of the steps of NA/AA and part of that is knowing oneself, including limitations, accepting your past and moving on.

…and you’re not writing crap, I love reading about what you have to say too, which says a lot about the human conditions too. I like your observation about human nature and such!

    • I am rooting for Germany after Australia bombed out too! πŸ™‚

They’re first in the group, with good performance so I’m looking at them to go far.
