Fraser’s Hill – nothing like a nice little accident to make your day!

Incident report:

car damage

We were driving down to get some dinner at Hillview Restaurant at Puncak Inn (recommended by Wikitravel for their good hot soup) when we passed by the Fraser’s Hill food court. I made a sudden decision to go there instead and drove into the what I thought was the entrance.

diagram

Please refer to the diagram above. I actually drove half way in – both my front tires were down that cursed curb and I couldn’t reverse out despite a concerted attempt to do so. It was about a FOOT high. It just made a great deal of noise and smoke.

gas tank

Fuck it, you’re either in or you’re out so I drove all the way in, which resulted in a detachment of my rear left bumper. I can see a lot of indecent exposure in there – wires and something which I hope is not my gas tank (it’s on the same side).

driving

People were starting to gather around to look at the idiot who literally drove INTO the food court instead of using the entrance so I nonchalantly opened my door, walked up to them and asked – “Excuse me, how do I get out of here?”

foot long

A lady pointed me in the right direction and I’m glad to report that I didn’t need the car to be towed or anything – I just drove out of the pedestrian path, following it till it merges with the road, which luckily didn’t have a foot high curb on that side.

…and we ate at the very same food court, using the proper entrance this time. smirk

  1. That driveway should be included in the big book of “How not to design driveways -Part 1”
It should have a railing or retaining wall to make it clear, rather than the small painted curbing.

  2. Jeff: Curb! Yeah that’s the word I was looking for. Thanks buddy! ๐Ÿ™‚
Yeah, the design was a bit messed up but my traveling companion DID see the proper entrance while I was concentrating on the dark roads in Fraser’s and looking if the food court had anything interesting.
My mistake was driving in for a closer look at the offerings there at what I thought was the entrance. Heh!

Yeah, I’m always fine on vacations! It doesn’t bother me. I thought it was pretty funny actually. Heh!

Just the bumper detachment bit, and a bit of scraping under the car. T_T
I consider it Good (TM) that we got home alive coz actually I calculated there was an 11% chance we might not. Haha!

  11. I am surprised the bumper is the only thing that semi came off. You didn’t scrap the fuel tank, exhaust, suspension? Damn, that’s a good car.

KY: Haha! If I had an epic accident in Fraser’s like the ones I’m usually in, I won’t be writing this. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Cheers: Sorry to hear about your accident!
Yeah I’m starting to think this car is Stephen King’s Christine. :S
Haha! I wasn’t embaressed at all, I thought it was quite funny. ๐Ÿ™‚
    ciki: Thanks! =D
I’m fine, just need to find a day to fix the thing. I’m still driving it as it is. I wonder what the opague thing is. Hmm…
fish fish: Alas! Sorry to hear that! I got into an accident the FIRST TIME I drove too. Heh!
Anyway, at night in Fraser’s, it’s quite dark and that design is really rather stupid – I couldn’t tell which the entrance was. ๐Ÿ™
rocket: It wasn’t the only damage, going over a foot high curb like that scrapes the bottom of the car. I’m not sure what damage that did – going to a Toyota service center to do a proper full once over.
    No it’s not her. ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Yah pretty cheap to fix this one, I had the same kinda damage before in Sunway carpark before. Those stupid blocks at the back of the parking space got stuck under my rear bumper.

  14. the way i see it, if there is no leaks and the car is still going fine, why fix it? This weekend, take it out for a test drive, see how well it goes up Genting.

  15. ShaolinTiger: Thanks for the info! I think I’ll fix it this weekend, give it a proper once over. A lot of things are wrong with the car ever since the last accident. ๐Ÿ™
chrisblitz: Heh! In comparison to what could have happened (drifted off a cliff) this is considered a lucky break. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Gotta see the positive side of things! ๐Ÿ™‚
mickey: The entrace is really messed up – if you look at the photo, it seems that the road forks into two ways and it was dark so the pedestrian path looks like a road too. Haha! ๐Ÿ™‚
rocket: Heh! I can’t, there are actually a lot of things wrong which I haven’t fixed. Faulty brakes, damaged anti roll bars from my car being towed out of a drain, etc etc.
Gotta really service the car this time or it’s gonna be my coffin. The car literally shakes when it hits 110 km/h. ๐Ÿ™‚
