RM 40 car wash

rm40 car wash

I haven’t washed my car ever since it was shipped to KL about two months ago and I figured it was high time it got some foam lovin’ before I drove down to Ipoh. There is a car wash near my condo so I drove over and asked for it to be cleaned, both the interior and exterior. This was the eve of Chinese New Year and there was a long queue at the car wash. I was told to pick it up two hours later.

Car wash dude: Boss, sudah siap!
Me: Okay. Berapa?
Car wash dude: RM 40 sahaja.
Me: RM 40???
Car wash dude: Ya, sudah murah ini. Saya cuci luar dalam, vacuum, lap semua bersih bersih.
Me: Terlalu mahal la…RM 30 okay la.
Car wash dude: Tak dapat boss, sekarang Tahun Baru Cina, banyak orang mahu cuci kereta. Harga biasa ni, tak naik untuk Tahun Baru Cina.
Me: -_-!!!

I’ve never paid RM 40 for a car wash before. It’s daylight robbery! It’s not even waxed; they just vacuumed the insides of the car and washed the outside. I must look like I’m not from around here, coz I was slaughtered by these dudes.

How much do you usually pay for a car wash in KL anyway?

P/S – I forgot to mention, my Touch’n Go card was stolen by these fellas too! I only realized the next day when I drove down to Ipoh and couldn’t find it in the coin drawer where I keep it when I had to pay for toll!

  1. Max I have ever paid is RM10. But it’s usually RM8 and they do all the above-mentioned as well. I think they probably saw yr Sarawak no. plate and decided you’ll make a good ‘water-fish’. Hehe :p
BUT! Yr car did look very shiny and clean 🙂

That must’ve been like one hellva of a wash for your car.
I washed my car in various places before but none really beat yours
Prices include wash + interior vaccum
    1) JB(RM$8)
    2) Malacca(RM$6)
    3) KL(RM$8)
    4) Singapore (sgd$10 or rm$23.80)
Even the car wash in singapore is even cheaper.

  7. HB,
I thought you got some where in your condo to wash your car. Do you have self serve type car wash where you put money slot and get wash with water and soap rinse and hotwax? We have it here . The automatic one not bad with filling up on gas free car wash or pay and drive in.

  8. Poor HB *hug*
Next time, get the price dealt before getting into any service in KL, including the cabs, then pay after the service is done. Too many unethical business going there trying to kill you like a water fish. What more when your car plate is non west Malaysia.
Oh, btw, are you going to hold until your challenge ends this month before you chomp all those three bottles?

  9. Yo HB, I’m Zul a Kuching dude but now in Philadelphia, US.
I pay around USD8 – 12 for carwash of my nissan quest minivan and if I go to deeper ghetto, I can get USD4 only. No wonder how cheap or mahal the carwash is, the best thing to do is to ask the price before u leave the car dude.

  10. HB, c’mon, if I were you, I would’ve rip those blood suckers head off on the spot, RM20 would be acceptable for me since its CNY, but RM40!? You shouldn’t even pay them, call the cops.

  11. Haha HB, come on man, you should know better 🙂 This is KL: always get a price confirmation before going ahead with any purchase or service be it car wash, nasi kandar, or china whore. And never never never never leave objects of value in the car or else your next post might be about someone smashing your windows to steal your dslr (choi choi choi!)

  13. Goodness. I’ve never heard of a 40-ringgit car wash. I pay a total of 8 ringgit for all the cleaning that you mentioned and I seldom send my car to a carwash. Next time u need to ask before they wash. And don’t leave your car unattended. Sorry to hear you kena again.

  14. Lars, of course it’s cheap if you convert the euro currency to the malaysian ringgit. While you are at it, why don’t you convert pound sterling too? So much cheaper that way.

I park my car at any Westfields shopping centre- and get my car washed, vacuumed and detailed for AUD 50. 😛 Gah

  18. Jason: Sounds about reasonable. That’s what I usually pay in Sibu too!
ShaolinTiger: Eh, I went back after I got back from Ipoh and told the boss. He said that day was Bangladeshi substitutes and they were only supposed to charge RM 20. I told him about my lost Touch’N Go card and he said best he can do is give me a free wash + polish for next time. =D
YilingL: Yes, you won’t want to see how it was like before it was washed. Heh! 🙂
There were cans all over the back seat.
Carol: Yup, but good thing is, I get another wash + wax package coz I complained about my missing TnC card. 🙂
Jeff: Haha! That would be funny. 🙂
jolene: Hmm…sounds about right. The one opposite charges RM 39 for three washes. 🙂
hindraf/joehans: Yup, and there will always be someone willing to pay that price. I was in a hurry and RM 40 is worth it, nothing to get my panties all in a twist about before CNY. 🙂
Eh, btw why are you commenting twice with basically the same comment? LOL! Funny la you.
Jason: Hmm…yeah I gathered tha’s about the right price. Got one promo opposite my condo RM 39 for three washes but it was too far (have to cross a highway).

  19. dB: Aha! Thanks mate! I shall do that. 🙂
suanie: Eh, Suanie, you know where this car wash I’m talking about is? It’s the one very near our place, inside a car park, run by the same people that runs the car park.
mrPP: Ya, it’s ridiculous but no point in arguing about it since it’s CNY and I figured it’s just RM 20 extra anyway. I was pissed when I found out about the missing TNC card though. I have to get a new one now.
gf: Yup, I gather that’s about the right price now. 🙂
I still have this promo where I bought 3 washes for RM 39 for this place opposite my condo though.
Rambling Mind: Seems to be the going rate eh? In Sibu inside and outside is about RM 10 – RM 15 for my car, depending on which shop I go to.
sotong: Ya, it seems they increase the price before CNY. Still got people willing to go though coz if you car is dirty, gotta wash it before CNY so what’s paying RM 20 extra (which is about the price of plate of nasi kandar anyway)? 🙂
Leng: Haha! Yes, my car is indeed very dirty. Seriously, I smoke in the car so imagine the ashes.
Marlboro Guy: I think the reason they’re able to get away with it is coz of people like me, who is not into self-washing cars and desperate enough to pay for someone to do it for CNY eve. 🙂
    Oh well…

  20. vincent: Yalor…somemore steal my damn TnC card. I use it for toll and parking. Now I need to get a new one.
imantulen: Yeah, I know, unfortunately it was CNY eve so I had to go with it. The other option was to walk opposite the NKVE and join the queue of cars there.
Lars: Yeah, but if you’re earning Euros, then it’s just 7 for you. 🙂
chriso: Hmm…maybe lor…but I get cheap nasi kandar, my friend. Haha!
So if you want, ask me to buy!
Jessen: Oh well, there were a lot of junk in my car which I told them to dispose of, and it was CNY Eve so I let it go. I went back not coz of the RM 40 but coz the fellas stole my TnC card, so I reported it to the boss.
tom: RM 5 for inside and out? That’s really cheap! Mine also cleans the floor mats and all that though and wipes down the interior.
Michale (Mike): Yup, got self service one but I didn’t think of going there coz I thought I needed to wait so I chose the one closest to where I live.
fish fish: Yeah…oh well, at least I got another free wash when I went back to complain about the TnC card. The people doing it that day were Bangladeshi temps and I saw them eating nasi kandar. Probably ate it on me. 😉

  21. Trey: This is stolen, more like. I didn’t mind the RM 40, it’s just like RM 20 more and I needed it washed that day before I drove down.
It’s the stealing of my TnG card that pissed me off, I mean wtf, these people so unprofessional one. Now I have to take everything out of the car before I leave it for washes.
Zul: True, true. I was in a hurry that day though…
Stanley: I was so tired when I got the car that I didn’t even think about it. What pissed me off was the TnG card that they so BOLDLY stole from my coin box. What if I had checked straight after instead of the next day when I had to use it. Memang teruk, these fellas.
mink: Wait, there is a free English – Bahasa Malaysia translator online, I just can’t find it. I shall ask my coworkers, I didn’t know it existed until one of them told me.
Vince: I took out everything of value, except for the coins (which isn’t enough to justify the hassle). I totally forgot about the TnG card that was inside my coin box. 🙁
nelson: Heh! I don’t enjoy washing cars. Bit of a waste of time, so I outsource it. 🙂
Jairo: I went back to report my TnG card being stolen. Was given a free car wash + polish next time by the boss. He was polite so it’s okay, said the guys manning it that day were temps.
WEEN: Haha! I can’t dude, I live around here.

  22. Mellissa: Erm…at least I haven’t kena conned by the nasi kandar people where I usually eat. 😉
So if you want cheap nasi kandar, ask me to buy. 🙂
leif: Yeah, especially when you go into the TnG lane and realized your TnG card is missing. :S
justine: I shall stick to petrol station washes from now on, but they don’t do interior.
JNJL: Dragon car wash near Chong Lin park offers that too. Haha! RM 15 for exterior wash only (no interior) + free drinks from the fridge while you wait.
eiling: Yalor, and the worst thing is the TnG card! Good thing you had the SmartTag.
jessy: Hmm…get some detergent and turn on the wipers?
Naoko: Engine wash? Does RM 15 include interior? As in vacuum, floormats and full wipe down?
janell: RM 5 in Sibu? I’ve never seen it. Minimum was RM 10 for me.
Pixeldoll: I had to wait for 2 hours so I walked back to the condo and then walked there again. I didn’t want to wait for 2 hours. I’m not a big fan of waiting. 😉
I took most of the stuff out but unfortunately forgot about the TnG card.

  23. dumb angmoh: Well, it’s like cigarettes, used to cost about AUD 10 when I was there, which was more than MYR 6.40 over here – sans conversion.
Paul: Well, at least I had a clean car after that so can’t complain too much. Got a free future wash + wax too coz of the thieving temps.
KY: Hmm…problem with that is I live practically next door.
charlz: For both interior and exterior? That is cheap, if it’s near our office and it’s fast, I’ll go.
Aaron: They were all eating nasi kandar when I got there, I was the last car. I think they were having dinner on me. 🙂
    hindraf/joehans: I think you haven’t met a lot of unscrupulous people. 😉
It’s RM 40 on CNY eve, it’s not like they’re asking for RM 100 or something ludicrous like that.
Anyway, there are always people willing to pay that e.g. me coz I needed it to be done then. BTW, why are you commenting under different nicks?
Colin T.: Wait, wait, haven’t told you the followup. 😉
I went back coz of the TnG card and got a free wash + polish for next time by the boss. Haha!
I know it’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
Implosion: Ouch. That’s a record, for sure! What do they do, scrub the tire threads with a toothbrush as well? 😉
Tze: Petrol stations don’t do interiors right?
thenomadGourmand: I was thinking haircuts would cost more too which was why I haven’t been getting one and my hair is long…but then I thought about the RM 10 for 15 minute cut places. They can’t raise their prices coz it’s a franchise. 🙂
DeepForest: Oh well, I’ve resigned to the price, I’m just annoyed about the TnG card. To the owner’s credit, he offered me another free wash + was when I told him about it. 🙂

  24. Chris Thoo: It’s okay, I got another one free. It just annoys me that the fellas that day took my TnG card. I have to get another one now.

  25. Malaysian business people are so stupid… They think they can rip people off and expect to run a profitable business… do you think Hua Bin is going to return to this car wash?
They can stick their soap up their ass… I would go to the consumer commission and report this case….oh wait.. Malaysia can’t get its police force in order… let alone a simple car wash…
Fuck Malaysia… its a shit hole with a shit currency
Also… there are alot of stupid tossers in KL… I dont think Hua Bin should clean his car because it should match the filth that is Malaysia

  26. hitomi: I’m definitely not going back except for the free car wash + wax due to the stolen TnG card.
Jamie: Yeah, Sibu being a predominantly Chinese town will definitely charge more during CNY, which is probably why I’m blase about it. Haha!
The land of RM 80 haircuts during CNY Eve, and RM 15 kampua noodles on the first day. People still go though, the ones who procrastinate, like me.
Superior Malay Cina Bodoh: You have a point, I could have been a regular since it’s just a short walking distance away but now I’m never going back except to claim the free wash + wax so they lost a potential regular.

  27. Simon Seow: It’s CNY Eve though, not a regular day. Where is Eneous?
Paul Tan: Hmm…that’s cheap. What if you asked for a full clean? I told them to wipe down everything, wash the floor mats, throw out all the garbage except for papers etc. Does that cost more?
