I know…who the hell goes to Klang to eat BKT at an eating establishment inside a mall instead of sweating it out like a man in some authentic looking (preferably run down) and well loved coffee shop?
The new port coolies of course!
Although our line of work has more to do with computer ports than harbor ports, nothing beats a bak kut teh breakfast!
The pork knuckles with enough fat to make 20 whales clutch their hearts with their flippers and float belly up.
The meaty pork ribs that just slides off the bone…
There’s nothing like the hustle and bustle of salt-of-the-earth hardworking men chowing down on bak kut teh before their daily honest backbreaking toil.
Please excuse my wanton exhibition of the flavorful pork knuckles that squirts out its juicy secrets as you bite through the layer of fat into the meat, bursting into a million taste bud orgasms in your mouth.
It’s too good! I’m going to go off and…er, lift some heavy objects or something now.
P.O.R.K!
I reckon u are not ‘pork’ (pig) enough cos u didnt eat the cartilages!!
when andy saw that, we were like, what a waste. lol
Aduiiiiiiii, thanks to you I’m hungry again, even after eating Maccas.
HB, they serve this for breakfast? I thought it was a lunch time meal with rice.
yeah i love bak kut teh… but are you sure klang has the best bak kut eh? my hometown one also very good =p
whoa, what a heavy breakfast >.
omg! look so nice! I’m not a fan of bak kut teh but man, d pork knuckles look damn good! I’m a strong believer that pork is best eaten with all d fats and not lean. Hehe. I feel like eating pork nw! Haha
Hey, at the very least you can eat that much without suffering unwanted bowel movements. I’ve been having some mysterious bowel ailment which seemed to puzzle my gastroentrologist. π Pardon me while I sit on my porcelain throne.
HB, lets go! I’ll call Andy and we can go get you for more BKT!! Woot!I bet you he’s up for it this Monday morning as he’s staying over at my place! :p
funny Klang-ites eat rice for breakfast huh?
there are so many outlets in Klang serving BKT, it’s almost impossible to compare each and everyone.
though many swear by this version in bowls, with darker, thicker broth.
bak kut teh…yum yum…
fatty porkie…yewww… =.=
seriously lo… they should get bigger bowls! the bowls are obviously too small!
HB, my wrong I so see rice serve with meal. It great to eat this in morning and skip lunch for meats is heavy and filling.
cynthia: TT
I didn’t know it could be eaten. I am a big fan of pork k? Do not doubt my love for all things swine. π
I shall eat everything next time! =D
Marlboro Guy: There’s just something about the oink oink that hits the spot. π
I crave for it a lot too! =D
Michael (Mike): Bak kut teh is a traditional breakfast meal for port workers over here and in Singapore. π
fufu: Hmm…I’ve had good BKT elsewhere too but Klang is the famous one for BKT. π
hitomi: It’s a very hearty breafast! =D
It’ll last you through lunch, no problems. π
chefmel: Me too! I don’t really fancy lean pork unless it’s heavily spiced with chillies. Pork belly and pork knucles FTW!
It has to have enough fat to make it worthwhile. The mouthfeel and umami taste – it’s like nothing else eh? π
Cheers: Haha! I have the same problem this week – struck down by diarrhea twice. Oh well, I’m boycotting the mamak (since it always happens after I eat there) near my place for a while. π
Momon: I’ll be in Ipoh on Monday morning. π
Reschedule to next weekend? π
J2Kfm: Heh! Yeah, where I come from, eating rice for breakfast is the exception, not the rule (at least for us, don’t know about other families). I have developed a taste for rice for breakfast thanks to one of my ex gfs though…it does seem to provide more energy for the day. π
annant: …but the fat of the pork is the Good Part (TM). π
It’s the best of all, lean pork meat tastes like beef anyway, gotta have the fat for the pork taste. π
eiling: I think this is KK style (Hainan? Hakka?) BKT…KK serves BKT in various small bowls containing different stuff instead of a huge pot which some places over here serves. I prefer the small individual bowls coz I can choose what I want. π
Michael (Mike): Indeed! This will easily last you thought lunch and give you a great energy boost for the day too. Carbs in the morning slows metabolism (at least according to what I read – best eat protein) but it sure feels damn good. π
what a lovely thing. i have family that I would likke to clobber… and they me, im sure. but just once in while rest in each others company. old and young. nothing like sharing a meal. and tunes. Sounds heritical, but wonder if JC had music and singing at the last supper? might as well. Bless you, HB, and all you love. tom
this is soo great, on many levels, hb. suffice it to, all is well, with my friends and family. hope you are well. well can i say, hope you are my friend? be well. tom
bak kut teh as breakfast? no way!
um, Hb, i am an omivore. I like veggies, but i sure like meat, also. that pig kunkle looks good. I also like chicken, beef and lamb but asparuguss and tomatoes, potatoes, and corn, beans, berries, and fish. jezze,a friend would not sell me lambs, this fall for the tiny farm cause he said I like mutton. Hey common, I dont eat named animals, but where does everyone think buffalo wings, drumsticks, fish, ribeyes, barbeqe, hot dogs, and all the rest come from? Think that fish gives it up easy? No. be kind as you can. I am horified by the thought of lobster, or clams, being boiled alive, but I like milk and cream, butter, eggs and therefore chesse cake. and I dont ask the cow if it wants to be milked, either. nor should you, unless you want to eat berries, nuts and fodder. Then get ready to be run down. cows, hogs, chickens, and fish would eat you if they could. and really would not care about your comfort. This is sure to provoke some comments. And spare me the peta stuff. No farmer treats his stock bad, for it is his livley hood. and i can already hear it comming…, like a tidal wave… thats what they said about slavery too… well good luck. its not the same. I will say, that when we slaughter a hog, I lose my taste for ham or bacon for a day or two. Jezze, hb, I dont wannna be a vegitarian. what do you think?
um, since we speak of hog meat, my family and forebeares wasted nothing… never care for liver mush or head chesse ( not what your thinking- its the boilded cleaned, head meat , ( jaw, cheeks, ears, snout) cooked with red pepper and formed into a loaf, with onions and red pepers, then fried. The natuaral gealitin of the skull hold it together. Brains were scrmabled with eggs, but I nevever care for them. and a good thing too… pig brains are one of the highest choleseteral foods you can eat. ( Mmmm, brains…) still…. i dont care for chitlins…. cleaned hog intestines… or mountian oysters…. which are eaxactly what you are thinking the are. when we castrated pigs, used to thow them to the dogs. to put it bluntly, yuck. Then went in an ate a sammiche of “potted meat” which was lips and buttholes of cows, whith a slice of tomato, and onion. oh well, never killed anybody. God bless, HB. Would say watch what you eat, but I guess thats beside the point now. ( the worst, for me- at the end of survival school, half raw armidillo, killed by a pocket knife, cooked in a stick over an open fire, with 3 others. When you aint ate in 7 days, it tastes pretty good.
tom r: Heh! I love the animal analogy my friend. Touche, very true indeed. PETA is not exactly a very strong society over here.
Same here, I think we (or at least I do) any part of the pig – liver etc right down to the head.
A delicacy back in my hometown is pig’s head (you can actually see the snout, ears, etc – it’s all whole) before it’s chopped up and wok fried with dried chillis and other stuff. You can’t even recognize that it’s pig’s head after but before it’s cooked, it’s shown as a pig’s head and you choose which one you want. π
Wishing you well buddy!
jolene: Yeah, seriously. π
People used to eat BKT for breakfast…and a lot still do, albeit on weekends. I skip breakfast on weekdays (coz of work) and most weekends too (coz I want to sleep in). π
