YoYo Cafe is a bubble tea establishment at Centerpoint, Kota Kinabalu. There is no particular reason for its popularity – you can ponder all you want and analyze till your brains hurt and still be hard pressed to figure out why people throng to this place like bees to honey. This is exceedingly puzzling because:
a) The bubble tea they serve isn’t the best nectar that ever crossed my lips
b) They have a very limited selection
YoYo Cafe serves bubble tea and bubble tea only (except for the odd iced confections recently added to their menu). They have an intricate system of ordering where you choose the items you want, pay at the cashier, get a number and wait for your number to be called.
We were there on a weekday and the average wait is 15 minutes. I’ve waited longer the last time I was in KK.
I ordered the Yoyo Ice Special (not realizing it comes in a bowl) while Jerine had the Chocolate Bubble Tea with pearls. Hers tasted pretty good actually.
Thus, as the Eighth Mystery of the World – here’s YoYo Cafe, no reason or rhyme, it’s just packed with people wanting a fix of bubble tea.
A word to the wise: Carrying around a bowl in your left hand and a spoon with your right while walking isn’t as fun as it looks.
There is only one excuse, either they chicks there are super hot or other vendors can’t get their act together. Simple as that. Yawn.
Dude, strange sequence….. the number sign says 31 when Jerine paid for her bubble tea, then it change to 25 as she walked away from the counter with her order ( and note suddenly everyone else disappeared).
Erm, maybe 6S forgot to take a XX photo of the staff earlier on?
Maybe its a small town thing (heard that KK is quite Ulu, correct me if I’m wrong) where people just go wherever that looks proper.

e: they give random numbers, not in order like those at banks, etc.
TYH: yes, u can even find wild boars walking about inside shopping malls.
rocket: I think it’s coz of the location and the lack of good bubble tea establishments in KK. 🙂
e: Oh, we were wondering about that too! The answer is simple – they recycle numbers, it’s not in order so you can get whatever number anytime. 🙂
Tan Yee Hou: Haha! Nah, it’s coz they don’t follow numbers properly per se, they just reuse it.
Anyway, I think it’s coz it’s the only bubble tea place in the middle of KK. 🙂

Is KK some sort of backwater town or something? Seriously, what is so good about the bubble tea business? Doesn’t taste any better than Baileys. And the chicks aren’t that hot either.
Trivia, did you know chefs have their knives razor sharp, enough to shave their pubes.
Yoyo Cafe is awesome! one of my favourite hangout places when I am in KK. Should try their croissant available at Lintas!

actually the reason why Yoyo is so famous is because of their pearl. not their bubble tea.
Their pearl’s nice and not as powdery as others.
and yes their coconut cube!
Last time they used to run of pearl almost all the time! but now not really 😉
You should really try their milky tea + pearl or milky tea + coconut cube 🙂

How does one even compare the quality of bubble tea in KK and KL? It’s worlds apart. I’m a Sabahan living in KL for close to 5 years now and I haven’t found any bubble tea establishments here that can match up with Yoyo. KL can’t even match the bubble teas I had in China.
Yoyo has nicer pearls and the bubble tea tastes better because their drinks are not of the cheaper powder based variety found in KL. Yoyo’s drink preparation is taken straight from Taiwan if I’m not mistaken.
DillowPen: That’s a good question – two different places altogether – it’s akin to comparing Taiwan bubble tea to KL bubble tea.
Hmm…it seems like Yoyo has a cult following!
