Suit up!

suit in phuket

I got a tailored suit for THB 6,500 during a recent trip to Phuket. I chose a design from a β€œVersace 2012” catalog. It’s a fashionistas dream – the suit making industry is so advanced in Thailand that they even had a catalog for Armani dated 2014. πŸ˜‰

It took a bit of haggling but we brought the price down by about THB 1,000 (RM 100) each. I had three (very rushed) fittings before the suit was ready. The last time I got a full suit done was a good 7 years ago so I reckon this RM 650 two-piece is worth the price.

I shall call this the Barney suit in honor of Mr. Stinson. This is the HIMYM opening credits pose. πŸ˜€

  1. That’s a good deal for RM650. I wonder why we didn’t get hubby suited up during our last visit. Must remember to do so when I visit this year.

And…I spot the furkid sleeping. Cute!

    • You can get it starting from THB 4,000 but this is a better quality one.

The price can go up to THB 12,500 (about RM 1,250) depending on the fabric.

      The German Shepard is HUGE!

      …but very friendly. πŸ˜€

  2. HB, very nice looking on you. For moment I thought you were getting ready a wedding that time most guys go out to buy a suit.

Hmm…come to think of it, it seems to be a wedding year. Lots of people getting hitched.

      I’ll probably wear this. Haha.

    • I already have a black suit. πŸ™‚

This color, which I would never normally consider was recommended by friends who were with us and the owner of the shop.

Apparently goes well with my skin. πŸ˜€

    • Oh, it was from over THB 7,000 to THB 6,500 – a THB 1,000 discount.

I don’t think it’s possible to get a suit for only THB 1,000 which is RM 100. πŸ™‚

    • It all depends on the fabric. It ranges from THB 5,250 to THB 12,500 for the good quality stuff.

      Thanks Sherrie! πŸ™‚

  4. Dude, you gonna leave the Branded tag on the sleeve ……….like some of the visiting Chinaman at Disneyland? BTW what happened to your friend’s shoes ?

    • Haha! That’s not the tag, it’s a piece of paper that has alteration measurement numbers on it.

You have to take off your shoes and pants to try it on.

There’s personalized stitching too – got my initials done inside the suit. πŸ˜‰

Yup, we were part of an entourage of 5 media from Malaysia. There are media from other countries like Japan and Korea too.

  5. oooh so you and kenny went to Club Med Phuket!! Hey kenny looks really funny trying to take a picture of you wearing the suit. And did both of you get the same suit?!!

    • Yeah, we were with 3 other media for this trip.

It’s a different design but same fabric. Mine was from an “Versace 2012” catalog. The difference is in the lapels, cut and buttons. πŸ™‚

Kenny went for a more casual design while I went for a more formal one.

    • Yup, you can even get it from THB 4,000 which is about RM400 and some places will even come to your resort to get it fitted properly.

A couple of girls with us got dresses and coats too. It’s a good buy coz Phuket has a huge suit making industry. πŸ˜‰

  6. RM650.00?!?!? man that’s a real bargain for a nice suit like that. My friend did told me that the quality made are even better than the ones here in M’sia

    • Yeah, it could be had for cheaper but the fabric for this is pretty good. I like the feel of it.

I won’t be surprised, it’s a huge industry over there and the Phuket made suit is surprisingly well tailored. πŸ™‚

    • You can get it in 2-3 days and the fabric you choose will affect the price. The best was THB 12,500.

I buy off the rack in Malaysia so I wouldn’t know, the last time I didn’t was a looong time ago but it is a good quality suit. Fast and excellent service.

I’ll get one if I’m there again.

      Thanks bro! πŸ™‚

    • Heh. I was surprised by the speed. Phuket has sweatshops I bet – tailoring is not done in-house but by a runner.

It is a very well made suit for the price though.

      Thanks bro! πŸ™‚
