3 things I did in the past week

I’ve been sick the past couple of days and now that I’m feeling better, here’s 3 things I did last week! πŸ™‚

1. Got on a talk show on Bernama Radio 24

bernama radio 24

This is an interview with Gerald during the 9:30 pm slot. I was at Bernama’s studio on the 5th floor and appeared on air for roughly 40 minutes.

I didn’t know where the time went! I expected it to be quite long and started talking and before I knew it, 40 minutes has passed. Heh.

I also met Jun Sern (tall guy at far right), the man in charge of the English segment and bumped into Nadia (blue tee), who’s the first person I met in Malaysia who knows who NOFX is. πŸ™‚

2. Spoke at Nuffnang Blogopolis Malaysia 2012

Nuffnang was kind enough to ask me to speak at Nuffnang Blogopolis Malaysia 2012.

It’s the first one in Malaysia and it was held at Concorde Hotel.

hui wen

My fellow speaker is none other than Hui Wen – last time I bumped into her was in Singapore so it’s good to be on stage and talking to everyone with her.

It was also the first time I’ve ever done anything like this, that’s another thing done from the bucket list. πŸ˜‰

3. Watched The Dark Knight Rises Preview Screening

I’ll not spoil this movie for you but it’s an awesome conclusion to Nolan’s Batman trilogy, which is much darker than the previous Batman movies. I preferred the second one with The Joker but this final iteration wrapped up all the loose ends nicely and it’s a very long movie – about two and half hours!

I was hoping there will be a post-credits scene or trailer but we waited and there was none. This is the grand finale of the Nolan trilogy and it’s awesome!

I just watched it a couple of hours ago and I can’t wait to re-watch it – this time in IMAX! πŸ™‚

    • Hey there bro!

How’s China? Anyway, The Dark Knight Rises is good. Not as great as the second or even first iteration but an apt ending to the Nolan Batman trilogy. πŸ™‚

  2. Ahhh gotta love your activities πŸ™‚ caught batman last night too, preferred the last installment of it though. This one felt draggy, with the villain giving out a rather sad vibe. I miss the Joker.

    • Yeah, agree with you bro. The Joker is a much more complex character and I like the anarchy and chaos prevalent in the theme.

The first was good, makes Batman into a darker series compared to the old movies.

The third is good too but lacks the mysterious element that makes the first two great.

I’ll watch it again in IMAX though coz I love the series. πŸ™‚

  3. Oh dear! So sorry to hear you’ve been sick and glad that you’re better now. Take care there, buddy. You certainly have been busy, haven’t you? Looking great there at the radio station studio console – like a pro, man! LOL!!!

    • Thanks Arthur! πŸ™‚

I’m feeling much better now, recovered from the flu dy.

Heh. Thanks, just checking out the console. This isn’t my first time on radio but I think it’s the first truly live one without a delay so I have to be careful when I speak coz in daily conversations I use a bit of profanity and have been known to take the Lord’s name in vain eg Jesus Christ exclamations so I was very careful when I went on air. πŸ™‚

  4. Hey there, HB! I think it’s probably the weather that has made you under the weather, but it’s good to know that you’re getting better by the day. Stay hydrated and catch more rest, especially during this hot season. I can’t help but ask, have you been eating one too many durians lately?

You sure look like a natural on the job and could pass off as a pro. =)

I’ll see if I can tag along with my friends if and when they’re catching The Dark Knight, but I think it won’t be the same without the Joker.

    • Hello Ciana!

Thanks mate, have fully recovered except for a spot of diarrhea so I’m good. πŸ™‚

It’s not durian related, just got the flu.

Heh! Thanks for the vote of confidence, I like public speaking and although I’m not a very good orator since I don’t enunciate my words and can speak rather fast, I still enjoy it.

Yeah, do catch The Dark Knight Rises, definitely worth a watch, I’ll be catching it again in IMAX coz I’m a huge fan, despite this being the weakest of Nolan’s trilogy IMHO. πŸ™‚

    • Well, it’s not my first time on radio, have been on air, print and TV a couple of times before but it’s always a great experience. πŸ™‚

It’s my first time speaking in such a capacity in Nuffnang Blogopolis though, that was fun!

  5. Sorry to hear that you’ve been sick. Hope that you’re all well now! And I am so excited about the Dark knight movie! Heard so much nice things about it.. going to watch it tonight! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, I’m totally fine now except for diarrhea – cheers for the concern! πŸ™‚

Yup, The Dark Knight Rises is definitely worth a watch. Apt ending to the trilogy, although the first two was better IMHO.

I’m going to watch it for a second time in IMAX. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great movie, just missing the elusive X factor that would have propelled it into awesomeness…

…but it’s still better than most recent movies I’ve watched.

    • Yeah, it was fun to speak at Blogopolis, love the pairing and couch format for a more informal and cosy setting. πŸ™‚

Nice! The Dark Knight Rises is a must watch if you’re a fan, I’m going to catch it again.

    • Heh. I eat and sleep too, that’s normal.

Yup, been a productive week, work wise too, got things done before puasa, am looking forward to weddings and trips now. I’ll be heading to Boracay next month. πŸ™‚

Yup, the third one ties up a lot of loose ends, and without spoiling the movie for others, comes full circle. I preferred the first two though, it’s like The Matrix, first one was epic, second hit the sophomore bump and the third isn’t all that great coz of expectations from the first.

MIB 3 was the opposite, it was the strongest one in the trilogy after the novelty of the first.

  6. wtf…. i hated MIB3 (aint the same without the older Tommy Lee). I havent seen TDKR yet; but have seen TeD, John Carter (hahAHaha), Battleship (omg bleh), Amazing Spiderman (meh), Avengers (woohoo)… I had watched MIB3 in 3D too, oh how naive was I then….

    • I really liked MIB 3 – I think it totally revamped the franchise, the first was awesome in a quirky way, the second did not live up to expectations, the third was great! πŸ™‚

The Dark Knight Rises is good, but not the best in the serious IMHO, that would be the first and second. Bane just doesn’t have the screen presence to pull it off – the character development of him…

      *SPOILERS ALERT*

…is he doesn’t have a good back story. The reason why he was wearing a mask, his past etc. The first one was nice and dark and the second with the Joker was good, Heath Ledger really played that part well and character is spot on – you remember how he said he got the scars on his mouth?

He consistently gave a different story – dad cut him as a kid, he cut himself after his wife’s face was deformed and the wife left him etc etc. That adds a lot to his character coz I think (my personal takeaway) is that he believes every single one of his stories. Either that or he’s just an agent of chaos and randomly generates a story while sincerely pulling it off – a true sociopath. πŸ™‚
