leaving

I just spent the past 3 hours packing up all my shit. I can’t believe the crap I’ve accumulated over such a short period of time. I can’t imagine how I’m going to fit everything into the car tomorrow. I’m thinking it’ll take at least 3-4 trips (and a lorry) to transport all my stuff to the new place. I managed to get a place for RM 1,100 per month – it’s not as good as the current condominium I’m staying at but I guess it’s alright since I will save on parking and gas (it’s very close to where I work).

I wanted to get a place at Sterling, and got an offer for RM 1,300 (just RM 200 more) which is a GREAT deal since Sterling is…well, I guess you can call it a high end condo. Unfortunately, the unit would not be vacant until 1st June and I have to move tomorrow since my lease expired. There is a cursed clause which states that the landlord can give 1 ½ months notice if he returns from Perlis and wants the unit back. I stupidly signed it coz I really needed a place to stay last year.

Thus, I am now in a state of limbo – I’m not sure if I want to stay at the new place for keeps since the rent is a bit steep for what I’ll call an apartment (instead of a condo, though it does have a swimming pool). I’ll need to sort out my Streamyx tomorrow too – transfer the line to the new place. I was rather tempted by Shang Villa (got an offer for RM 1,000) but after consulting Google Maps, it seems that the route to work would be a KILLER (massive jams on a notorious stretch of the LDP) so I passed.

To be honest, I’ve grown rather fond of my current abode and moving to the new place (you know I don’t reveal where I live) would be a bit of a pain, since the KL weather is so fucked up right now. The heat wave is likely to continue for a while and my air conditioning would not be ready until this Saturday. I guess I’ll just have to grin and bear it for the time being. It’s not that I’m fucking spoiled; I just cannot sleep without air conditioning since I’ve been sleeping at 16 degrees ever since I was a kid. It’s hard to adapt when you grew up with creature comforts like that.

I don’t mind the cold, but I hate the heat. People who know me can attest to the fact that I turn as red as a lobster at the slightest temperature provocation. A coworker even commented on the fact that I got sun burnt from walking 100 meters in the afternoon sun to a meeting. Yes, yes, I get heatstroke really easily, don’t bag me about it. Different strokes for different folks (pun intended). I can stand a lot of shit, but heat is not one of them.

Anyways, I gotta get back to packing. I am seriously puzzled, nay, flummoxed by the amount of shit I have lying around the place. Honestly, it’s like Jesus turning water into wine, albeit this is converting empty space into material possessions. Fuck me.

Well, since we’re on the topic of the Messiah, lemme just share with you a quote from SK’s Blaze:

Ain’t none of you ever been stuck in the mud and needed a push? I won’t ask you how you can be for this and still call yourself Christians, because one of you would have some kind of answer out of what I call the Holy-Joe-Do-It-My-Way Bible. But Jeezly-Crow! How can you read the parable of the Good Samaritan on Sunday and then say you’re for a thing like this on Monday night?

  1. Throw out all the shit you don’t need, or bag it up and drop it in the charity box. There’s a lot you can live without.
If you keep it and move it along with you it’ll just get worse and worse as time passes.

  2. ShaolinTiger: Yeah mate, I did! I threw out more stuff than I can remember coz I can’t imagine myself either using it or can’t be bothered to lug it to the new place. :)
    Cheers!

  3. man and you still got time to procrastinate and write up an entry =)

  4. Colin T.: Haha! Gotta take breaks la…packing is back breaking (pun intended) work. :)

  5. Haha.
    Er.
    Have fun! Keke

  6. shaoweii: It is not fun at all. :p
I’m STILL packing. Dammit, I can’t believe the stuff I have at home. :)

  7. HB, sorry you have this problem with the landlord. The landlord should pay you for moving cost and relocation. Too bad and not sure you got tenants right law like in states.

  8. before you throw out any shit you dont want ..do tell what it is. I might want your shit!

  9. hopefully this would be a better accommodation than the previous and the bonus point is that you don’t have to travel too far… why didn’t you call a friend to help you move your things?? i’m sure they’ll be glad to help…

  10. Those lorry buggers can pull a miracle. When we moved to Kelana Jaya, they packed in 7 years of our shit into one lorry. But then we didn’t bring the furniture lah. Hmm… gotta keep an eye out for you. Who knows if you’ll move into the same condo one of these days. :)

  11. hey, can’t wait to see your new place. if you need help, give me a tinkle.

  12. Huaibin, I guess Cindy is willing to help u packing if u called her :)
Is it RM1k for whole house? or just a room?
It is a lot if for room.
Anyway, new home new experience ;p

  13. And I need to pack 9years worth of stuffs and move ‘em from Penang to Selangor…
    Oh nooooo….!

  14. Ehhhh?
There are back roads that are never packed when coming to the office! You don’t have to use the LDP to/from Shang Villa (I should know, I worked in that area for 10 months).
Ah well, let me know if you want to know about the backroads next time. :D
    See you later!

  15. all the best dude. . .

  16. I can’t stand the heat too! Back in high school, everyone wanted to turn off the fan early in the morning and I’ll be the only one who doesn’t want it to be off. So out of the 5 fans in class, only the one above the place i sit is on in full volume =P

  17. Welcome to the new residence …..

  18. Done:
Moved several bags to the new apartment
Lugged TV, notebook and PC and stacks of books to the new place
Transfered my Streamyx/telephone (RM 50 charge!)
Sorted out my lease at the new place
    Disposed of rubbish
    To do:
    Throw out more rubbish
    Sweep the floor
    Mop the floor
    Finish packing misc. items
Put everything by the door so I can put it on the lorry tomorrow night at 9 pm
Turn off fridge before I leave for work in the morning
Jesus, this sure is taking a lot out of me. I hate moving! Gah.
Thanks to Erin and WC for offering me a place to stay in the meantime. You girls are the best. I would have loved to take up your offer but I detest the idea of moving TWICE. :)
Michael (Mike): Thanks! It was in the rental agreement so there’s nothing much I can say about it. :)
Serge Norguard: I threw out a lot of DVDs. I can’t be bothered to bring them along, it’s not originals anyway.
cindy khor: It is actually a downgrade. :(
I made a mistake – I forgot there’s ANOTHER condo near where I work which is going for the same price AND has full air conditioning (living room, all bedrooms) and comes furnished too. I moved into a bare bones place. Oh well.
Yeah, I could have asked friends to help but most of them are working and I don’t like to bother people. :)
thatjames: Heh! That’s pretty amazing! 7 years of stuff in one lorry! I’m packing the fridge and washing machine, two large suitcases and cabinet into the lorry. I hope it fits.
Same condo eh? It might happen. ;)
I nearly moved to Shang Villa and Kelana Parkview.
eiling: Sure, feel free to visit anytime! It’s a crappy place though, despite having a swimming pool. I wished I had remembered that Kelana Parkview (where there’s a unit fully furnished with full air conditioning) is near my place too.
Thanks for the offer! It’s okay, I can manage. :)
TianChad: It’s 1.1k for the entire unit. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. Non-furnished, with air conditioning (installation date: Saturday) in the master bedroom only. It sucks to be honest.
DiEsE: I feel for you…it can’t be easy, that’s a LOT of years of stuff accumulated. Better start now. I can help you on the receiving end though – just gimme a call if you need help in unpacking on the Selangor side. :)
Naoko: Arrrggggghhhhhhhhhh…why didn’t you tell me yesterday? :p
There’s a unit at Shang Villa for RM 1,000 with air conditioning in the master and guest bedroom and comes partially furnished. I wish I had moved there, it’s a much better place than the place I’m moving too. :)
    foodcrazee: Thanks buddy! :)
chefmel: Same here…back when I was working in Corporate Communications in Sibu, my place was the only one where I banned everyone from turning the ceiling mounted air conditioning fins shut and I keep it at full blast. If anyone shuts it down, I promptly turn it on again. LOL! :)
    Annie Pau: Thanks Annie! :)
Okay, my arms are seriously aching but there’s still a lot to be done. Lemme just sweep the floor first. Mop later.

  19. I haven’t quite done unpacking since I got back. (too cold)
Speaking of the heat and humidity up there, I swore to God it could melt my aunty’s fake eyelashes – don’t play play, I tell you ;)
p/s: don’t go to the fish head bee hun soup for the time being until u can deal with the heat. cheers

  20. cynthia: Yeah! It’s still hot, and it’s getting hazy now. Same shit every year. Not that I complain though, I don’t really mind haze. :)
I guess I’ll go at night. Gotta give your cousin a call to find out where the place is. I’m not familiar with KL roads…and Pudu is somewhere I try to avoid going due to the notorious jam. :S
The landlord is moving back in the day after…cursed fellow was transfered back from Perlis to PJ. I’ve done the best I can but I bet he’ll still complain tomorrow (see Born to Complain post). If he doesn’t I’ll eat my red briefs. :p
…and before anyone accuses me of being last minute, I had a place but the deal fell through coz the landlord rented it to another person. Asshole.
Working long hours does not leave much time for personal stuff either, so I had to put off moving until now.
…but I guess I’m one of the rare people who ENJOYS my work so it’s all good.
I’m just not looking forward to tomorrow, the landlord is coming at 9 PM, when the lorry is slated to arrive. I hope he won’t make too much of a fuss. I think I might have to pay him off a little, but fuck it, just to make him shut the hell up.

  21. BTW, I am on Twitter, just started not long ago. I occasionally share anecdotes when I feel like it.
    I’m @sixthseal

  22. :S I hate packing! Eventhough it’s just to pack for holidays trip.. For sure it would be a long day for me. Happy packing & unpacking HB! ;)

  23. While u r taking a break….
I was testing children in my Glasgow Sunday school class to see if they understood the concept of getting to heaven.
I asked them, “If I sold my house and my car, had a big jumble sale and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into heaven?”
    “NO!”, the children answered.
“If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the garden, and kept everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?”
Again, the answer was “No!” By now I was starting to smile.
“Well, then, if I was kind to animals and gave sweeties to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into heaven?”
    Again, they all answered, “No!”.
I was just bursting with pride for them.
I continued, “Then how can I get into heaven?”
A six year-old boy shouted out : “YUV GOTTAE BE F*CKN’ DEAD! …”

  24. I also don’t like the heat.. As I feel I gonna melt. ;) How I wish one day Malaysia snowing too… Hihi^^ *Dreaming too much*

  25. brand new place, brand new daredevil stunts from you? ;-)

  26. hey at least you made it to the movies. champion.

  27. Shirley Snow: I hate packing too! My arms are still sore from lugging garbage bags to the garbage room. :S
DYMM_Tuanku: LOL! Love the joke mate. :)
Shirley Snow: I don’t exactly enjoy winter too – the hours are too short. I kinda get depressed during winter, there’s even a term for it, Seasonal Affective Disorder, aptly named SAD. ;)
    Seriously.
The daylight hours are just too short in winter.
YilingL: Haha! I can’t anymore at the new place. It’s too close to where I work! :)
Colin T.: Hey, it’s good to see you mate. :)

  28. dont think they open at night

  29. cynthia: Alas…then morning, will call you cousin this weekend. :)

  30. well said HB, and toDYMM, I about fell outta this chair , laughing. Used to teach sunday school myself, many years ago. I belive God has got a great sense of humor. We are made in His image, right? so it stands to reason that if we laugh, so does He.Tom

  38. They might talk concerning the subject, however you have to SEE it. They wish to confirm they make alternatives primarily founded on long run growth, not near future profits. Chat to folk and see in the event that they have made any current adjustments to the compensation plan, or the needs to be accepted on your check, or constant changes in product pricing.

  39. If you have read my story before, you’d knew that I started my MLM journey from your false MLM company. False suggests that not real. Pretend indicates scam. Pretend suggests that illegal. Anyway, I am naive that time and I join with massive promise by my then uplines about driving Mercedes C-Class at the age of twenty with 4 months in business, donning SGD $1000 dollar tailored suits, transporting thousand-dollar Mont-Blanc pens and wearing Golden watches… (or plenty others which you’ll be able to name it yourself…)

  40. When persons fail in there own business organizations it is harder to factor a finger of blame anywhere.

  41. You most likely believed in the MLM principle whenever you initial joined your company and underwent with all the MLM training. You will discover also people who joined an MLM contractor who by no means believed these concepts.

  42. This was a wonderful read loved all the information on it !…

  43. Thank you for information.361
