10 things you should know about the blogathon

1. Eat your meals

eat

12 hours can be quite exhausting, especially if you have to lobby for votes and run around doing tasks. Scarf the food down, we have three meals a day and I eat every single meal coz you’ll need the energy.

2. Interact with the people outside

caucasian

You need their votes so wave, smile and pose for photos with them. 1 vote is one point so take your time with the people voting for you.

3. Do social profiling

You know who likes you. You know who doesn’t. It’s mostly guesswork but I can figure out which types vote for me and I’ll lobby for their votes by making eye contact and waving the appropriate sign. Then again I’ve been surprised by votes from people who I never even lobbied for so take this with a grain (or shaker) of salt. πŸ˜‰

4. Make use of placecards

generic signs

You can’t be heard inside the window display and you’ll need to communicate with the people outside. Write generic replies and scribble ad hoc ones with a marker when you have to.

5. Use Twitter

Each tweet is worth 1 point, the same amounat as a vote so it’ll be wise to start tweeting about anything and everything. All of us were spamming Twitter with the hashtag. πŸ™‚

6. Don’t drink too much water

pee

This goes without saying. We get one (1) toilet break every 3 hours and all other toilet breaks will be deducted at a rate of one point per minute. Hold the water, or your bladder, or even better, both. Just learn to pee real fast. πŸ˜‰

7. Put up signs on your window display

tape signs

This is what they see when they first go to the window display. Tape those signs up! =D

8. Type faster

This is not a PhD dissertation or a presentation to an important client. Speed is the keyword here. It’s a blogathon – go, go, go!

9. Don’t put up too many photos

It takes ages. T_T

10. Be nice to the promoters

promoter vote

They get one vote per day too so you can get them to vote for you!

promoters

Thanks girls! Much appreciated. πŸ™‚

  1. ok, this looks like downhill from here on for many of the poor souls out here trying to get a sense of the shopping frenzy you guys have created.
Is’nt a picture still worth a thousand words and isn’t it still as true as ever, all the judges out there? Why twitter?

  2. 6thFan: That’s an interesting contest…erm, design overlook which I pointed out on the first day. It takes AGES to post a blog (and it’s only 1 point) while tweets are also 1 point and its so fast with the hashtag. πŸ™‚
However, we have blog post quotas to meet each day though. πŸ™‚

  3. cheesie: Haha! That is exactly 20 words. πŸ™‚
nelson: Going to going to, my muse is coming during the toilet break. I brought 3 muses along today, one for each toilet break. πŸ˜‰
fish fish: Yeah, that’s what I pointed out the first day, noticed that, but it was a bit too late as it was starting in 30 minutes. Heh! πŸ™‚

  4. You could tell people you’ll put their photo on your famous blog if they vote for you?? Just an idea…
Isn’t there some kind of quality control with tweets? Otherwise you can just go crazy with whatever wtf fml omg random rubbish…

  5. julian: Heh! I don’t think that’ll work very well. I think most of the people here don’t read blogs – random passerbys. πŸ™‚
There are a few supporters though.
Yeah, a bit of a loophole in the tweeting thing. πŸ™‚

  12. I know you get points from every comment on your blogs. I have tweeted (and you subsequently retweeted) you about coming over later this evening.
I wish you all the best of luck with my comment here (which hopefully earns you a point) and my later visit to see you in a fish tank (which will earn you another point, I hope).
PS. I promise not to vote (or help) anyone else get more points than you. πŸ™‚ Good luck holding your bladder. It might help if you don’t think of Niagara Falls!!!

  13. HAHAHA! I love the sign. Not sure if you look like Ah Beng/Lala though. About holding your bladder, well the initial part is hard, after that torturous period, the feeling to pee will go away! (provided you don’t have to jump around :D) I did a lot of unnecessary training (not good for the body T.T) while stuck in many traffic jams..

  14. HB, where is you fashion for today? I want to see. Is it against the rule to pee inside the “tank” you are at? I mean in an empty disposable container. Ok, you probably will be detained before you do it.

Do a live report on the shoppers; do they just look at you guys and decided it’s time to shop? or the opposite?
Are they mostly male or female, young or old? Fashionable or Ah Beng on a transition.
What exactly do they come out with, a pair of white socks or some overpriced leather jacket?
Or simply there to get some high from the perfume section?

  50. PlayStation Phone – No internal memory? That seems kind of weird since I doubt this thing will use UMD. Also, isn’t the PSP2 coming out next year? Will they make a PSP Phone 2? I’m kind of skeptical on this one. well, i can’t edit…but i wanted to add this. i wont be surprised if sony adds some type of adapter add on to the PS3 (something to support the IR blasters, and maybe a small unit within that add on that has more RAM) so it can support google tv. It would make so much sense for sony to be even more of a presence in the living room, other than what the ps3 can already do. If google tv ends up working out all the kinks, and getting better…i wouldn’t be surprised. On top of that being a selling point (a huge one) over the Wii and similar to the Xbox integration w/ att uverse, you’d be able to get the PSP phone and the ps3 to work all buddy buddy together. the possibilities are endless if you ask me. This would be called product synergy sony…listen to me
