Roti Kraft competitive eating @ Hassan’s

My mother always told me not to play with my food.

Kraft is promoting their Burger Kraft and Roti Kraft by setting up booths in mamaks around the Klang Valley. I went to catch the one at Hassan’s coz I have (an inflated) faith in my competitive eating skillz. πŸ˜‰

burger kraft

Naturally, I had to try eating it first for practice so I ordered one Burger Kraft. It’s free if you say the tagline “Kasi satu Burger Kraft“. It tasted good – I had no idea just using a premium cheese slice instead of a normal one would result in such a difference.

roti kraft

I also had Roti Kraft – it’s roti canai made with Kraft cheese and this is the one that’s going to be in the competitive eating contest. I like roti cheese and Roti Kraft tastes quite different.

kraft akimbo

You know how some cheese slices don’t even have dairy products inside? Kraft cheese slices isn’t one of those – it’s real cheese. None of that artificial cheese nonsense here.

embedded journalist

Embedded journalist. Heh! These were some people I met at the mamak and sat with them to hear what they thought about the Roti Kraft. It’s mostly positive and a lot of them wanted to join the Roti Kraft eating contest later. Awesome! I love competition. πŸ™‚

The Kraft mascot came out and made an appearance during the event, greeting people at the mamak and getting them to join the competition.

Oh, how kind of you.

The competitive eating session is divided into male and female matches and the winner will walk away with a Samsung digital camera.

roti stack

The stage is set with stacks and stacks of Roti Kraft.

It’s about to get serious.

I managed to eat 3 Roti Kraft in 5 minutes. The winner ate 4. I was just one short. >.<

I think I was talking to much crap at the beginning about my Dhall Theory (TM) instead of scarfing down the food. T_T

The female eating session came after that and saw a lot of girls positively stuffing themselves for the digicam.

It started out with very fast pacing…

…which gradually slowed as the competitors started getting full.

The female Roti Kraft competition was much more interesting – it ended up with a tie!

female competition

Thus the two winners (coincidentally the ones I sat with during the night) had to do a tie-breaker game where the person who finishes one Roti Kraft in the fastest time wins.

This is the tie-breaker video. One of the girls nearly had a reversal after eating that.

final two

Congratulations to the winners!

Kalau Keju Mesti Kraft, Kasi satu Roti Kraft!

I conclude that it is a lot more fun to watch other people eat competitively than to do it yourself. πŸ˜‰

  1. i love cheese but must low fat…hehe…kraft nice… πŸ˜‰
btw if eating competition try start up slow then fast else ur stomach full of air n cant stuff in anymore… πŸ˜‰

  2. ah nel: Yup, I love Kraft cheese too. πŸ™‚
    I can’t start slow – there’s only 5 minutes! :S
I have figured out a technique though – squash the roti into a single small pellet and down that with water. πŸ™‚
chefmel: Oh there are a lot of competitive eating events around the US but not many over here. You can try it at home, see how fast you are. πŸ™‚
WinnieKepala: Ya, I talked too much in the beginning. Haha! I banjir-ed it to make it soggy and easier to swallow but in hindsight, 5 min isn’t enough for it to soak up the gravy. :S

  3. Roti – ha. I cooked a whole boneless leg of lamb last tuesday, but refrigerated the remains – uh, that sounded bad, left overs. to night, shredded them up with hot barbeque sauce, added a handfull of kraft shredded colby chesse and bell pepper strips, then rolled it in large flour torttias (rota). microwave till chesse melts. ummm. Plus, persons who dont like the taste of lamb (ie. kids – oh lamb, yucko) even like it. This is going to sound terible, but I buy two kinds of sliced chesse. The sliced kraft, unwrapped slices, for the adults, teens or older kids ( great on burgers or just crackers,) and the “sliced, individually wrapped, processed imitation chesse food product” for the little kids, most of which is gonna be left half uneaten or feed to the doggies. Hey, common, HB. You dont put Moet in a champagne fountain, do you. Hope you had a great Christmas. The kraft roti look almost like crepes.

  4. e: Haha! How did you know I didn’t? πŸ˜‰
It’s a dude in the suit, BTW.
tom: Hey that recipe sounds good! This kinda of roti looks liike crepes but tastes nothing like that…it’s more of a chewy texture.
    Cheers! πŸ™‚

  5. Eating comp is a real sport, no pai say one lah. Just shaft the foods down, push it down, don’t want for the body’s natural function.
And don’t roll the roti, makes it harder to go down and potentially choke you. Just loose it and force it down withy minimal chewing.
Try eating a full size pizza or 350g steak under 5 minutes.

  6. Can i still go around mamaks going “Kalau Keju Mesti Kraft, Kasi Satu Roti Kraft!” to get free Roti Kraft? I’m craving for some now! Lunch was bad today..*emo
LOLs at your “boring commentary” on the female competitive eating videos πŸ˜›

  7. Dylan: Yeah, it’s a lot of fun! They were doing a couple of mamaks, even in Cyberjaya. πŸ™‚
rocket: Competitive eating is serious business. πŸ˜‰
Yeah your gag reflex has to be pretty subdued to ensure that you can really scarf down food. Heh!
michellezyenn: Hmm…if you find one of these stalls, sure why not? =D
Haha! Ya, I was doing a running commentary before realizing I shouldn’t. πŸ˜‰

  8. well, tis about to snow again here… laid in some supplies this time… um beer, bread, milk, fire wood, beer, hey being honest here, and the power companies are staging trucks just in case this time… I have never seen the likes since 1993, but I was lulled into sleep, this time, surely that will never happen again… well, it did. last week.2009. jezze again? asleep at the wheel. again?. Like David?? yes, he fucked it up, big time. a guy after Gods own heart.. thats the toughest part, you know. Why do you think my name is tom…, named for doubting thomas… jezze, thanks alot, mom and dad… but you are a blessing to me Hui, and I hope all is well.. another ice storm scheduled for tonight… thats ok… been reading the bible by candle light…. just who is your neighbor… go and do likewise… and somtimes that aint easy… LOL

  9. tom: Hey, that’s a good thing. A white Christmas and New Year. πŸ˜‰
The ice storm doesn’t sound good though.
Take care my friend and have fun tonight!

  10. like yorkshire pudding chewy? I have a feeling the power is about to go out again. a most unusual start to winter. If its down again ( and I live in a pretty rural place) prior to new years, here is to you, wishing you all the best fot the new year. may all your wishes and hopes come true. thanks, HB.

  11. eiling: Thanks! Haha! It just requires a good control of your gag reflex. In competitive eating you’re not supposed to puke (called a reverse) even after. πŸ™‚
tom: It’s slightly LESS chewy than that. Heh! Hey, it’s good mate, go out and have fun. Thanks for the well wishes and the same goes to you my friend. πŸ™‚

  12. Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
