rain concert start

I dropped by the Rain concert after the F1 race in Sepang on 10 April 2011. It was after the final race and there was already a good sized crowd forming there at around 7 pm. Luckily, I had pretty decent tickets so I managed to get into the pit – was about 5 meters from the stage itself.

I can’t say I’m a fan of Rain. I don’t know him at all except from the Clear shampoo TVCs. I went to catch his performance with very little expectations since I don’t listen to K-pop.

Rain has a really good stage presence – his choreography is excellent and the stage set is managed well by his technical people. However, I can’t say I’m impressed with his singing. I don’t think he’s that talented – he’s just one of those pretty boy “idols” that teenage girls go all gushy over.

However, I must admit that he’s quite good at what he does – namely his appealing looks and dance moves. The pyrotechnics helped a lot too!

I’m not his target audience, but there were legions of fans screaming for him. His fan base is predominantly female and he knows the usual tricks to get them into a frenzy.

One interlude had him commenting on the heat in Malaysia while taking off his shirt and wiping his sweat with it and throwing it into the crowd.

That went down very well. It was a huge hit with the crowd and I bet the girl who caught it would really treasure that personal souvenir. I don’t want to think about what she would do with it in the privacy of her own room. ;)

I will refrain from making captions like “It’s raining (men)” but that is apparently his most well known song. I think it’s called It’s Raining. I captured it in its entirety for your viewing pleasure.

I don’t know how many people who’s reading this is a Rain fan. I’m not but if you are, I hope you enjoyed the video coz I had to stand there for damn near two hours before he came on stage. ;)

  1. Hi HB! I’m impressed by ur camera capturing such a sharp photos for night shot! What cam is that? :)

    • I had three cameras that day! I’m not sure which photo you refered to but it’s either taken with:

      1. Sony alpha 350 dSLR w/ 55-200 lens and external flash
      2. Nikon S1100pj digicam
      3. Sony TX5

The widescreen looking photos are taken using 2 and 3 and the regular aspect ratio photos are taken using 1 and 2. The movie was shot using 3. :)

Thanks for the kind comments but I don’t think I’m a particularly good technical photographer. I just like taking photos. :)

  2. I don’t want to think about what she would do with it in the privacy of her own room. ;)

    LOL!

    • HAHAHA

Yeah, I think the girl who caught his sweat drenched t shirt was pretty happy about it. ;)

      :D

    • Just think about what you will do in your room.

      • Haha! With Rain’s sweat soaked t shirt? Nothing, I’ll have given it to a Rain fan.

        …if it were Jennifer Connelly’s however…hmm…

I’m a huge fan of her in Requiem for a Dream. ;)

  3. Hmmm I thought he is no longer famous anymore? hahaha.

    • Hmm…I don’t even know much about Rain except that he does shampoo ads. I guess I’ve never thought of him as “famous”, at least not to people who don’t listen to K-pop or watch Korean series. :)

He has his fans though – I guess a good analogy would be if I had caught his sweat drenched shirt, I’ll just pass it to the person beside me coz I don’t want it and it has no value to me whatsoever. On the other hand, if I get an autographed copy of a first edition of a rare Stephen King novel, I’ll be happy as a pig in shit. :D

It’s all about target markets. I believe Rain appeals to female teens through 30s (possible?) more. :)

  4. my mom’s a huge fan. i like him most out of all the korean stars hehe, i was at his last concert it was awesome! he can sing leh!!!!

    • Oh, your mom should have gone to Rain’s concert this time too – it came with the F1 race tickets. Hey, I know her name, it’s quite unique coz it’s the name of a car and one of the 3 Malaysian backed teams. :)

Schumacher was driving one of the cars. He came in 9th.

The only local team that made the podium was Lotus Renault GP backed by Proton – Heidfeld drove the car that came in 3rd. w00t! :D

I don’t know, I’m not a fan of Rain. I’m uploading another video though, it’s taking ages on my connection. :x

I don’t know if he can sing, but he sure can dance and lip-sync. Hehe!

      Kidding, kidding.

Glad you like him, Kim! :)

  5. Nama Saya RAINNN!

    • Oh ya, you reminded me of a joke someone made yesterday bro! There’s this Malaysian artist called Hujan.

If someone did a BM translation in the concert a different guy would have come out. Our local singer instead of the South Korean one. Heh!

…it was funny really when he said it. :)

  6. Rain is consider the first Korean artist famous for the single edged eyelids. I prefer his movie rather than his songs.

    • Interesting! I didn’t know that. I thought he would have fixed it since Korea is the land of cosmetic surgery and people seem to think that having single eyelids is passe over there. :x

  7. wow u get to go his concert? great. he’s a great dancer tho~ (but im nt his fan). btw, r u going to Hennessy Artistry event end of the mth?

    • Yeah, it’s included in my F1 ticket. I think most of the seated tickets includes the concert, the others can be topped up with RM 198 to watch the concert. :)

Hmm…I’m not sure yet coz I might be going on a trip then! I’ll keep you updated! :D

  8. So, this is the “Rain” that Ed was telling me about. He asked me if I would see “Rain”
I asked him, what rain? It wasn’t raining, it was drizzling from tv.
    F.M.L
I know almost ALL the F1 drivers, just not the Rain till then. Ha!

    • Haha! He’s quite a popular figure with the people who watch Korean dramas or listen to K-pop.

I don’t know, only know him from the shampoo ads he does. I just went to see what he’s like coz I’m not familiar with his music and I know a lot of people like him.

Thus, I basically just went to see what the fuss was all about. :D

Yeah, we’re more interested in F1 than Rain, very natural, since we both don’t listen to Asian music so Rain obviously won’t strike a chord with us. Pun intended. ;)

    • how do I edit posts?

      • Hello Joe! You can’t edit posts – there’s only one person who can post on a blog, and that’s the blogger. :)

…or do you mean the comments? Those can’t be edited too, but you can post a follow up comment. Hope that helps.

  9. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
