Have I ever dreamt about being a world class athlete in the Olympics? Of course.
However, for me the experience is not about winning medals and breaking records (although all that is good and well). It’s about living in the Olympics Village and meeting all these people from different countries and cultures.
There will be 204 estimated nations participating in the 2012 London Olympics!
I’ll love to pop over to a different country’s living quarters every day β talk to them, eat what they eat, hear stories about life in their home country.
I don’t know if that’s against the rules (it probably is) but wouldn’t it be interesting to hear what they have to say and see what a gymnast eats vs say, a weight lifter?
That’s what I’ll do if I’m in the Olympics Village β spend some time in each nation’s quarters so I’ll get to know their culture better. I reckon it’ll be the best part and imagine the stuff I’ll be able to write about…
…or make videos about. π
Remember the Samsung Global Blogger contest I blogged about?
It’s closing soon on the 29th April and here’s what they will be looking for in your video audition:
- Confidence and energy in front of the camera
- A passion for your subject matter
- Imagination and originality
- A good sense of humor
- A social butterfly β do you use Twitter? Or talk to the world on your own blog?
- The ability to tell a story well through video and the written word
Here’s Jamie Oliver expounding a bit on it. You might also want to see their tips on making a great video.
I’ll love to be one of the chosen ones. It’ll be so much fun to be able to go there and represent Malaysia in covering the London 2012 Olympics from my own point of view, getting all the interesting bits about this penultimate sports event and the festivities surrounding it.
If you’re interested to apply, get on over to the Samsung Global Blogger contest to find out how you can get a chance to win a trip to London during the Olympics! It’s not too late.
You’ll be in the thick of all the action!
My video is coming up soon…wish me luck! π
Ooooo….I love those comforters. You must buy for me when you win…. I’ll reimburse you, of course! π
Of course! π
I’ll be happy to get you one if I win the contest, no need to reimburse me. I’ll want a duvet as a souvenir too. π
ur really different from other people. like u said, ur a traveller not a tourist.
thats what makes u special hb. π
Hey, thanks for the kind words Alice! π
Well, I like to travel, spend time absorbing culture and talking to the locals, not go on a rushed tour where you alight just to snap photos and go on board the tour bus 10 minutes later.
The latter feels like you’ve not even been there.
I’ll always choose to utilize my own time to go where I want to and explore and spend time to talk to the locals and experience their culture. π
sigh. i wanna go so badly but…
You can join the contest!
It’ll be a great way to go if you get selected…your video blogs will be available for a large audience to see too! π
I wanna go too, but tis a lil late now di lah… no more good places to stay unless you stay with friends, and all the tickets are sold out – the ones worth watching anywayz!! π
Yeah, it’ll be really hard to go right about now…
…unless I win this contest then it’s all sorted. π
I was checking the prices for accommodation and you’re right! A lot of the places are booked out.
When I saw your first pic I immediately thought “IKEA ADVERT!”. Even the floor boards are matchy-matchy.
Heh! I wouldn’t be surprised if it came from Ikea. π
The furnishings in an Olympics Village isn’t exactly 5 star, it serves the purpose of the athletes and that’s it. It’s more like a college dorm. π
looking forward to your video man. you have my vote, i bet you’ll be able to cover it well. all the best man.
I just posted my video bro! π
Thanks for the vote of confidence, much appreciated Jase! π
hurry up with your video!
I’m done! π
Posted the video, it’s up.
I also submitted it to the Samsung Global Blogger site – had to save it in a small format to fit the 30 MB max file size limit. π
