What would I do with so much cash?

win expression

I would travel the world taking *upside down* photos from dizzying heights! I think this could be the next big thing. smirk The photo above was taken in New South Wales at the Sydney Tower Eye & SKYWALK. I’ve also taken similar photos during my travels to Melbourne (Eureka Skydeck 88 – second highest building in the Southern Hemisphere), Paris (Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe), and Georgia (the insanely deep Rustaveli station in Tbilisi with an escalator length of 120 meters).

Yup, RHB Now Internet & Mobile Banking is having a contest where you can win prizes worth up to RM 100,000!

700 dollar electricity bill

This RM 700+ power bill from TNB doesn’t look so bad now when I can get 20 entries by paying it using the RHB Now Mobile Banking app. A minimum of RM 30 on any 6 online banking transactions could win you loads of cash. It’s just so convenient to be able to do online banking using the Internet at home or my cell phone via RHB Now that I hardly ever go to a physical bank anymore.

eligable transactions

The more you transact, the more your entries and those with the highest accumulated entries will win the prizes on offer!

What prizes, you ask?

How does RM 20,000 as the grand prize or weekly prizes of a Samsung GALAXY S5 & GEAR 2 sound? πŸ™‚

photo contest

There’s also a way for you to win even more cash with a photo contest, which was what I was talking about in the beginning of the post. Just take a photo that captures β€œWhat would you do with so much cash” and upload it, completing the slogan:

β€œIf I won cash and prizes from RHB Now, I would….”

and get up to RM 200 more on top of the RM 100,000 worth of prizes that are up for grabs! This contest runs till 30th November 2014. It’s just that easy, the more you use RHB Now, the more entries you’ll accumulate and the more chances you’ll have to win prizes worth up to RM 100,000!

RHBNow Transact Win 2014

There’s a lot of things you can do with that kind of money – a RM 20,000 Grand Prize can fund a trip to Japan (eating at all the Michelin starred places from metropolitan Tokyo to the rural ryokans). That’s our next planned destination! I’ll love to travel the world more, so here’s your chance to win just by using RHB Now!

    • Thanks Kathy! πŸ™‚

Yeah, it’s coz of the way my condo is facing the sun! I didn’t even realize that until I saw my bill.

My entire condo faces the full force of the afternoon sun (the walls are soooo hot it’s literally baking – you can feel the heat radiating from it when you touch it) so when the air conditioning is on (which it is all the time) it works very hard to keep the temperature at 19 degrees.

I just realized that’s why my bill is so horrific compared to last time – I had other units to block my wall exposure in my previous places.

    • Yeah, I was surprised too! πŸ™‚

I had TWO air conditioners (same 1,500 HP) running 24/7 at my previous condo (also about the same square footage in space) and it never got *close* to this. The problem is my living room is fine, it’s not hot at all.

However, the bedroom and kitchen area is baking coz it faces the setting sun, and there are no buildings to block it. My unit is the tallest one facing the full force of the sun.

Yeah, I hope I win too, always good to know that paying bills can run up entry points.

We run up about the same amount each month! Mine’s also RM 300++ which is very unusual since I had TWO running at my previous place and never even got close to that amount while I only had this one running here. It’s the setting sun, alas, there’s nothing to block it – my unit is the highest one and there are no surrounding buildings due to the way the condo is built.

  1. i’m not surprised at your electricity bill cos mine.. about double of yours .. 4 airconds at night only.. plus one once in a while when my bigbro and family are at home. they can’t live without aircond.

i guess.. it’s time for me to open RHB Account? hahaha.. cos i want to win something too..

    • Mine is on 24/7 but it’s one 1,500 HP air conditioning unit! πŸ™‚

I used to be able to operate TWO for less than half the price I’m paying now, coz of the way my current place is facing the hot afternoon sun with nothing to block it out. Oh well.

Yeah, I can’t sleep without air conditioning too – I even went and bought a water run cooler system (portable) when I was in Melbourne coz the uni halls of residence don’t have air conditioning (only heaters) and summers in Australia are intense (it’s hotter than Malaysia).

    • Wow! That’s really amazing for a family of 4! πŸ™‚

I remember our old family bill was RM 200 – back when there was still 4 of us living in the same house, so it was before 1995. We had 3 air conditioners (1,000 HP for me and my sis) and my parents was an old combo unit that used up A LOT of electricity.

The older models just guzzle up electricity – you can see the meter spin as they run, while new models are relatively cheap and efficient to run.

BTW, I’m pretty sure it works both ways regarding metabolism – BOTH extreme cold and hot will increase metabolic rate but only in the *short term*. As your body acclimatizes, you won’t get that effect anymore, so it really doesn’t make a difference either way. Cheers!

  2. My gosh, your monthly electric bill’s really high. I think (!) there has been a slight adjustment in TNB rates (by the state government) to regain their losses over the years. =O

I guess using air-conditioners do make a difference after all.

Sigh, if only the bank where my account is happily residing in is willing to have such a contest….

    • Yeah, I think they adjusted the rates too! πŸ™‚

There’s now a tiered system – if your usage is below the bottom tier, you don’t have to pay at all. It gets more expensive per kWH at the third tier onwards. I’m at the 4th tier of usage.

I think it’s meant to help lower income families who don’t use so much electricity – they can get it for free if they use below a certain amount per month and that applies to water too – sometimes my water bill is *free* coz I’m below the chargeable threshold!

Unfortunately, I use a lot of electricity but not a lot of water (no washing machine etc, my clothes go to the cleaners).

  3. RM700 TNB bill? Errr, for how many months? 2HP aircond in the masterbedroom and 1HP aircond in baby room, both on whole night til 5-6am, monthly bill about RM180+ wor.. Oops, I don’t have RHB account.. I like your last picture, you look so funny, like meditating.. Errr, wait…. Did you photoshop that picture? Or it’s a REAL picture? Can’t tell the difference πŸ˜‰

    • It’s for 2 months! πŸ™‚

Wow, maybe your house isn’t as hot as mine then. I ran 2 x 1,500 HP units back at my old place, 24 hours a day and it was only like yours (RM 150-180) per month.

However, I only run one 1,500 HP unit 24 hours here and it’s so expensive! It’s coz the bedroom is facing the hot afternoon sun, so from 12 pm onwards, the WALLS starts to heat up and the air con has to work harder.

The walls are *still hot* at 8 pm – it takes up to 9-10 pm for it to actually cool down, there’s no taller surrounding buildings.

Oh, I’m not good with Photoshop, I don’t know how to do all those features. It’s a real photo, all of my photos are, I don’t do stuff like photo manipulation. That was taken at Bondi Beach in Sydney, I was sitting on a rock outcrop and the surf was coming in and I thought it would make a nice photo.

Too bad Vivid mode was on though so the colors are too high contrast.

  4. Your photos are lovely and nice but the bill’s photo made me faint.
You better walk around naked to stay cool inside your unit. I am thinking of your sharing now since my wife pays the bills.

I could have TWO air conditioners of the same power usage running 24 hours last time and not ever get half the power bill I am getting now.

Oh well, too bad I didn’t realize there wasn’t any buildings blocking it from the setting sun before I got it.
