I am notoriously bad with directions. I have problems remembering roads and routes and going places is always a chore for me since I have to account for time spent getting lost. >.< I used to get by with handwritten directions scribbled on a piece of paper after a quick consultation with Google Maps but the problem with that is…
…holding a piece of paper in your hand while driving is not exactly what you do if you want to pass a driving exam. π
I managed to get my hands on the Garmin-Asus nuvifone M10 courtesy of Kim to test out. Garmin – the King of GPS, on a phone running Windows Mobile 6.5.3!
Alright, I admit I have my doubts about GPS enabled phones so I decided to take this out for a spin.
The Good
The M10 includes a windscreen mount so you can dock it while driving, like a regular GPS
The Better
It also connects to the cigarette lighter thingy in the car and charges the phone while you’re using it!
The Best
The Garmin-Asus nuvifone M10 READS OUT ROAD NAMES
“Keep going on Jalan Sulaiman“
Heh! I love the foreign accent in the M10.
Anyway, as I was saying, I used the M10 to get to this Nepalese food place near Kota Raya. I am suitably impressed with the device – it gets me where I want to go, it’s as good as a dedicated GPS unit and you don’t even have to keep it in your car (coz it’s a cell phone) so you don’t have to worry about walking out to find your side window smashed by some desperate person trying to hock your GPS unit.
This is the 5 MP cam on the phone in action:
Jerine‘s stash of por…er, I mean TV series. π
Her early birthday present for me – Macallan 12 year old single malt!
Alright, I know most of you have short attention spans so let me put in point form what I like about the Garmin-Asus nuvifone M10:
- The burst mode – it takes 3 photos in a row. It’s perfect for me coz I take 3 photos using regular digicams anyway just to get the right one
- It’s running on the latest version of Windows Mobile
- As per the above you get the best of Microsoft – Office Mobile. I wrote this in Word Mobile
- Facebook? YouTube? Internet Explorer? No problem – like I said – Windows Mobile 6.5.3
- Awesome Garmin GPS functionality!
- Messenger! Communicate with your friends on the go!
- Geotagging on the photos you take – let you friends know where you are
- 3.5″ WVGA touch screen – no more squinting!
This is an engineering review unit – the Garmin-Asus nuvifone M10 will be released on the 25th of March! It’s the best GPS phone I’ve ever seen – and the awesome thing is you have one less gadget to lug around. Integration FTW, it’s the way of the futureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
All photos taken with the awesome 5 MP cam on the Garmin-Asus nuvifone except the ones which has the phone it in, obviously. π
is there a monthly charge for using the gps?
WEEN: GPS is satellite based and does not use the data connection of your cell phone provider. It’s free – packaged with the phone. π
Never EVER bet against the trend even if u dont bet on BANKER unless u r damn filthy rich and can afford to lose. . . . .
The GPS of GARMIN is kewl. . .how else can i find some weird small street name during my trip. .
foodcrazee: I broke the Banker dragon though. Haha! I’m just stubborn like that. I like to go against the trend…if everyone is going on Banker, I’ll go Player. π
Yeah, I totally agree. I’m not even from KL/PJ so imagine how the roads confuse me. I must have a GPS or I’ll be completely lost. Can’t be relying on written notes on a piece of paper from Google Maps. A proper GPS like this is the way to go. π
Haha.. u got the post done! Relieved? π
Lets use the GPS again fr Puchong!
Arghh! Not another post with Jerine pollution… oi, can write without putting her face everywhere can or not. Sien la. A bit the gross also; you can do better than look like guy who kena hypnotise by her cunt.
thenomadGourmand: Yeah, let’s head down to Puchong next time! That one definately need a GPS, it’s damn confusing for me. Haha! π
Lily: I write about stuff that is current and we’ve been hanging out. My good luck charm in Genting k?
She’s a friend of mine, what do you have against her?
Hmm, just a bit grumpy tonight. No idea why people like you like to associate with bimbotic loose-labia-lips if you are supposedly looking for ‘the one’. Haven’t you been involved in enough shit already – drugs, crime, etc. Anyway I went to her blog expecting intelligent posts but was very disappointed to find that she is nothing but a brainless spoilt brat who spends long amounts of time on her computer posting boring shit like ‘so and so is asshole because he make me angry’ or ‘oh my fingernail split today so sad bwahbwah FML’. Grarr! I thought you’d rehabilitated yourself! Argh! No she is not brains and beauty at all. Just a spoilt kid who bought her degree. *grarr* /end rant.
I read your blog because I was feeling nostalgic about Malaysia and I thought you were courageous in forgetting your old life and pursuing maturity but this… good god. Very disappointing. She probably encourages you to smoke and gamble. Grow up!
Sorry my mom just died. My younger brother is addicted to drugs. Bad day.
Lily: Sorry to hear about your mother, my condolences. π
Well, as the saying goes, you don’t choose your friends, your friends choose you.
I have been on my vices since I was 15, I do not need encouragement to pursue them. π
I was the one who asked her to go to Genting, and I’m the one who drinks and smokes. Thosea re my vices, it has nothing to do with her.
Anyway, for intervention, it doesn’t work unless the person wants it. I’m sorry to hear about your brother, rehab would work, but only if he wants to quit. I did, and I’m clean now but only because I choose to be.
All the best Lily!
“I am notoriously bad with directions” – thats like an understatement haha but now that you have this I’m sure you can save up alot on petrol. π
Love the way you address your comments btw.
michellezyenn: It’s not even the understatement of the year, it’s probably ranks up there since Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior was born. π
I am terrible with directions. T_T
You know how people say guys have better directional sense? Not me. My gifts lies elsewhere, as you know very well since I had to ask you for directions 1,001 times. Haha!
To be perfectly honest, I still don’t know how to get to your place via the shorter route.
Yup, this is sure going to save me a lot of petrol! =D
Comments? Yeah, used to it dy, I’ve been blogging for close to 8 years, I don’t take things personally. π
Nothing much. Just passing by again. Why christians create troubles for everyone and for themselves ? There is no such a thing as a methodist christian or just because your parents are christians, you automatically go to heaven because you are their child. For christians to behave worse than non christians, it is because they are never christians in the first place, their parents never evangelize them, their pastors feel safe thinking that the children are christians so to speak. Bad christians but still christians. If christians can be bad to another christian, it is really bad but God will feel so sad because His believers do not love each other. Worse still is when non believers are better to you than believers. When there is no love, no forgiveness, my as well stop being a christian. Just because you wear such a big cross, you think you get the first class seat to heaven. The cross is not a charm. Why wear a cross and then wear some other charm ? If God is great, why should you need other things ? Why insult God ?
it seem buyable… π
btw if bike whre to caj?put the adapter to ekzos hole? π
what we readers would like to know is if you are shagging Jerine? =)
anonymous: I agree with you. Am born in a Protestant (Methodist) family and I believe in agape:
If you confess with your tongue “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
I don’t believe in crosses or organized religion. π
I think religion is personal and should not be imposed (evangelized) to others.
ah nel: Heh! Yeah, it’s a good buy with a Garmin GPS and a phone to boot. Well, it’s a phone so it works while you’re walking on the battery. π
Kai: Haha! No, I am not shagging her. π
We’re good friends that’s all.
i ask because years back i bought my parents a tom tom (i think it was called) and they had to pay a monthly fee.
@lily: You can say anything bout me, but me buying my degree? that’s a joke. Why don’t you try buying a LLB from any Aussie uni and see if you can get any. I worked my ass off for my degree and my masters. And I had my thesis published in Security Studies Journal for Routledge. Don’t judge me from my blog because it’s totally two different personalities.
WEEN: Hmm…GPS shouldn’t be chargable since it’s satellite reception and you get the updated maps online. Not sure how it goes in the US though.
Jerine: Heh! I was told the very same thing the other day.
“You’re very different off work compared to when you are at work”
Obviously, I have to be professional at work but when I’m off work, I become…GANESH! π
Ah Ko, it’s still early morning here. But something in J’s stash got my attention. What is that pink think next to the tupperware contanier? Looks like a very small anal plug. What’s J doing with an anal plug and a collection of Girls Girls Girls DVD.
Good to see you are milking Genting for what they are worth. Jeez, the taxi is a bit exorberdunt. Used to cost nothing to go up the hill. RM130????
Have you ever tried any other GPS phones?
rocket: Haha! It’s not la, it’s her cosmetics.
That is The Girls Next Door – a TV series from Playboy, a reality show of sorts. Not very explicit at all, more like a TV series.
Yup, going after midnight to Genting costs a lot, but that’s the standard charge so you account that when you gamble so you have to win back you trip costs. π
Colin: Yeah, have had played with other GPS phones before but none with this Garmin partnership. I like Garmin – they’re the undisputed leaders when it comes to GPS. π
HB: Thanks. I came to this blog to figure out why my younger brother is the way he is and how to help him. He is 18 this year, and spiralling downwards very quickly.
Jerine: Sorry, I was in a really bad mood. So frustrated with ‘the wired new generation’ apathy, and I took it out on you; I am sorry.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding degrees from Australia and many local university go-ers are upset with full-fee paying international students who get graded differently. Even ENTER score requirements are more lax compared to the locals (more so if you are from Trinity College – backdoor entry to the prestigious Melbourne university but what is the point if you can’t make it through Uni). So that is what I meant by you buying your degree. No offense.
I have been here for ten years and I haven’t been back to Malaysia for a while. Things haven’t changed that much. In fact I know some of your friends from high school. :/
Lily: No worries! π
Anyway, there is an axiom that is true, some people really need to hit rock bottom in order to want to be clean. Your brother is still young, and perhaps after he hits rock bottom he’ll want to get sobered up. I can recommend a good rehab for you if you want. Cheers! π
HB: Umm, thanks man. You are always nice to your commenters no matter how nuts they seem at first go. I had a couple of G&T’s when I wrote that. I was getting really annoyed because you reminded me of my younger brother who is going out with a complete bimbo who talks about her iphone, prada shoes, estee lauder nail polish, latest makeup and fashion and throws condoms all over the house… empties my dad’s wallet through my brother… and speaks in a very irritating high-pitched voice with zero content (mostly from trash magazines) or complaining about people non stop “oh she look at me that way, he is asshole, this guy is asshole, that girl is unattractive not like me so cute bla bla bla” (and i fantasise about putting a drill to her head). I will be interested to know the name of the rehab facility but I don’t think he realises how badly he has gone wrong just yet. This girl is not helping – she grabs his crotch in public and plain embarasses us when we go out. As his sister, I am thoroughly disgusted and fed up. My late mother brought us up to value hard work and I have worked hard all my life. My brother has inherited my good looks but HE NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO WORK HARD. JESUS! I have had a good education, work as a high status professional full time, and I am earning good money but I cannot control the fate of my only brother. I didn’t take the easy way out and dress like a prostitute to get money. Sheesh! And my brother is a man! He cannot even do that! He has dick not pussy! It is frustrating.
*sorry if this post dun make much sense either but I’m not at work right now *cough* *
Lily: Heh! No worries, I get a lot worse and besides, I totally understand your position. π
Anyway, I would suggest a 28 day program first but that doesn’t work unless your brother really wants to. It’s called New Hope and it’s in KL. This one is completely secular but quite expensive at RM 4,000.
Another one is 2 year program called Green Pastures – it’s Christian though, but costs next to nothing. It’s subsidized by the church.
Anyway, you are ultimately not responsible for your brother’s life. He is an adult and has to make his own mistakes and take full responsibility for them.
That’s how people grow up and learn. π
Wishing you well!
is the map free? what happens if you go overseas are all those maps pre-downloaded? (sorry im a fool with GPS)
sjc: Yeah, I have Malaysia and Singapore maps. You can always download more maps from Garmin – hook it up to your USB port and it’s good to go. π
Do u know how much will it cost in malaysia?
Joe: Hmm…I’m not sure but the 25th is coming out so I’ll be able to get back to you then! π
