Sibu bloggers meet @ Li Hua Hotel

li hua hotel

The Sibu contingent of bloggers had a meet at Li Hua Hotel at 7:30 pm just now. STP suggested the Li Hua Hotel buffet @ RM 11.50 per person. He had nothing but good things to say about the ayam masak hitam there and thus, it was decided that the Sibu bloggers meet be held there.

clare ng

There were four of us that had a mini-bloggers meet at Orchid Hotel before adjourning to R&R for drinks the previous night but it was so clandestine that the only other person I can name that was there is the delectable KLM. πŸ˜‰

li hua hotel buffet

The Li Hua Hotel buffet is rather limited in it’s selection but there is a free flow of drinks. There is a very strange practice here though – the food is not refilled. Thus, once the meat and vegetables at the buffet table is gone, they won’t refill it, and the buffet is effectively over.

steamed rice

There was the obligatory steamed rice dish (which was about the ONLY dish that was refilled) – all the others were not, but STP got the waiter to come out with an additional dish – curry chicken, due to our turnout.

ayam hitam

This is the flagship dish of Li Hua’s buffet – the ayam masak hitam. It’s chicken cooked in black sauce and herbs and translates as “chicken cooked black”.

chicken brinjals

There were also brinjals (eggplant) cooked in curry and roasted chicken.

tofu mee

Tofu and fried noodles were next on the buffet line…

fish veggies

…and the last buffet cart contained sweet and sour fish pieces and mixed vegetables. There were only six (6) dishes in total including the steamed rice and fried noodles. Most of us had already eaten though so it was alright, and the price was reasonable too.

plate setting

This is what I foraged from the remainders of the buffet line. The orange juice (from concentrate, not fresh) has unlimited refills.

my dish

Here’s a closer look at my dish. I did not do the speed eating feature in my repertoire for fear of alienating the rest of the bloggers. πŸ˜‰

me mary

I’m sure you recognize Mary of Kokoberry fame. We’re heading there again tomorrow at 11 am to bum free drinks off her. πŸ˜‰

sibu bloggers

This is a group photo of the Sibu Bloggers United (SBU). I have been told that I’m likely to get a heart attack if I eat with this bunch of foodies. =D
L-R: Mary, Huai Bin (me), Clare, Arthur and Clement.

bengbeng came at 9:15 pm to join us for a couple of drinks. He likes to remain anonymous though, so there’s no photos of him…unless you ask Clare nicely. πŸ˜‰

It was fun meeting up with all of you. You should check out the feature done by bengbeng on Romeo & Juliet (Huai Bin & Mary). It was funny to pose for all those photos. Heh!

  2. I can’t believe a buffet goes for only $11.50…. but at the rate I eat, I would probably manage to down a piece of chicken and a spoonful of rice. Let’s just say that my ADHD meds make me not want to eat…..but I can’t seem to shed the damn weight? LOL

Btw, we seriously need more bloggers in SBU.

  5. Clare: I think I’ve got one of him too. πŸ˜‰
hh: Hmm…tomorrow not free wor. Got work. πŸ˜‰
suituapui: Speed eating. Speed blogging. Goes well together. Heh! Clare’s thing is HUGE, I feel very paiseh taking my small thing out when she shows hers. πŸ˜‰
Thanks, buddy. I’m clean and I’ll try to be on my best behavior. πŸ™‚
It’s great to meet up with you again after all these years.
jessy: It was kinda sad how little of that dish was left. πŸ™‚ It was good though, it’s chicken.
Skwermy: Yeah, the place is slightly better than a budget hotel. I hear the rooms are clean but the place used to be notorious for working ladies.
People like you shouldn’t be eating buffets, I never go to buffets when I was on meth (supresses the appetite like ADHD meds as well), I only go AFTER a meth run and after smoking some cannabis. The good old days, huh.
Hmm…I noticed that it’s the little things that help shed weight. Standing instead of sitting. Parking a little further away instead of in front of the office. Using the stairs instead of the elevator. It all adds up.
clementwpy: I think it was until 11 pm. We just stayed and drank beer, there was the Kokoberry meet the next day so we left early.
It’s okay, at least you made the Kokoberry meet the next day. You should have gone with us to the Sibu bloggers trip to Bintangor. It was fun.
alexallied: I also have. Whatever the lower price is, I’ll lower it by RM 1. πŸ˜‰
Yeah, there’s not a lot of bloggers over here, huh.
Oh, and if you’re coming back, we’re planning blogger’s meet with an overnight stay. Details soon.
cibol: I asked his permission to post his photo on the blog. πŸ˜‰
Why didn’t you come to this one? We were looking for Sibu bloggers to come.
Deejay: Hello there! Yeah, it’s been up for a while. I’m glad you came back. It’s good to be writing again. πŸ™‚
philip: We’re going to. Overnight stay, was thinking Sebangkoi or Pelagus. Pelagus would be a bit on the high side though – RM 280 nett per night, inclusive of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sebangkoi would be much more affordable, probably can get it at RM 30 or less per person. We should meet up again and discuss the details.
goolooloo: No lar, bengbeng more kiasu. πŸ˜‰
    Bengbeng: Oh, he’s here. πŸ™‚

  6. ya,,,,the buffet style is strange,
when the food inside tray is going to finish…
there is no way to them to refill it..
even the time is just 9pm
and we have to make order…
    for food we want.
they just let .the tray empty..and still.hang there…
    haha…
