Taking things for granted

youtube

I’ve been using Streamyx broadband ever since “broadband” and “Malaysia” has been used in the same sentence. Before that, I was on 14.4, 28.8 and then 33.6 kbps dial up modems and you really get to appreciate speed when it comes.

Streamyx was the first broadband to hit Malaysia and when I got it, I was ecstatic. Finally! I don’t have to open multiple windows to load webpages and go make myself a cup of coffee and come back just in time to see the first one load.

You know human nature right? You think your girlfriend is the best thing since God made Eve until you marry her and then you start roaming around for bigger younger and better things.

That, my friends, is the root of all problems.

We take things for granted. We forget the great things that made us fall in love in the first place (analogy to broadband here wtf) and start nitpicking at all the minor stuff while ignoring the glaring negative attributes of the new girlfriend (or broadband provider).

This is also related to what I call the Corner Mamak Theory (TM) – eh, seriously I filed a patent for this so don’t use it unless you intend to pay me royalties k? πŸ˜‰ I will explain the Corner Mamak Theory (TM) in more detail in another post. Haha!

Seriously though, I love my Streamyx, haven’t switched since I started subscribing to it coz it does what I need. Sure, it’s a “familiar” name and you know it’s gonna be there for you so you start taking it for granted and you look at new broadband players with rose tinted glasses.

Well, it’s a bitter pill to swallow but lemme tell you this, I’ve been through life enough to know that there is no such thing as the “perfect girl”. The “perfect girl” is what you make of it. Streamyx does the job for so that’s why I’m not switching. πŸ™‚

  1. eiling: Haha! I’m not cutting. I’m moving to place that has 4Mbps Streamyx included in the rent so I don’t see the point. =D

  2. lol…no need to cut lah. There’s no such thing as a perfectly stable connection in Malaysia….yet.
I guess we should be happy with whatever connection that can give us the least problem…:P

  4. So now my place is known as the Streamyx 4mb provided for apartment eh? What about all other things provided for? The serenity? The quality of life that you will eventually have due to the proximity of work and home? The great chef that lives there too? The maid that cleans too? And others not to mention! :p

  5. Confirmed JB.
My friend in JB, about 400metres from my home. Cut… now he regrets, evening time his new ISP doesn’t even give him proper surfing access. Can’t surf, can’t chat. He has called the customer support so many times until they said.. ” Sir, we can’t solve your problem ”
So he asked: ” If that’s the case can I cancel the line? Because not being able to use the net from 6pm – 9pm is not acceptable ”
Customer support: “Sir if you want to cancel, you’d need to go down to the centre.”
Friend: ” Will i need to pay any penalties? Or will they not allow me to cancel? Because I’ve only used for 3 months”
Customer support: “Sir, just tell them your problem and they will accept the cancellation”
… My friend probably isn’t the only one then.

Momon: Yeah with your Streamyx 4Mbps connection. =D
Tian Chad: You can easily transfer your account at any TMpoint outlets. That’s how I usually do it. πŸ™‚
My new place has 4Mbps Streamyx though so I’m going to use that instead. πŸ™‚
    horace: Amen brother. πŸ˜‰
J: Yup, exactly why I’m with Streamyx, it’s coz it’s been around a long time so you can trust it. I trust brands that’s been around. I’ve been using Streamyx in Sibu, KL, Kuching, Sibu and now KL again. Never thought to switch. πŸ™‚
KY: Indeed! I’m lovin’ it. It hasn’t let me down, it’s better than the office connection anyway, prob coz I’m the only one using it here. πŸ˜‰

  7. I think Streamyx has been doing very well so far. I remember once when my Streamyx was off for an afternoon, I went over to use my cousin’s P1 W1MAX and it took so long to open a page on Facebook! And to think about it, Streamyx charge a reasonable price too. So, I don’t think I’ll be switching any moment by now.

It’s been a reliable workhorse/car/wife (haha) all the while so I’m sticking by it too. πŸ™‚

  9. Personally apart from surfing speed, the cap/threshold plays a major factor in determining my preferred ISP. Who would want a blazing 10MBps when your monthly quota is 8GB? I stream lots of videos so the limit might be used up before the end of the month. Plus I’ve heard horror stories from my friends about switching to the likes of P1 & Maxis. When they stated “on best effort basis” in their T&C, they really meant it. The speed is inconsistent.
With that in mind, I’m not suggesting that Streamyx is perfect. But it’s the most stable and reliable(at least for me). I’ve had downtime every now and then but it’s been fixed in under 24 hours. Plus it’s impossible to satisfy everyone, considering Streamyx’s massive subscribers base.
PS. I’ve heard rumours of Streamyx imposing a monthly cap from 2010 onwards. -_-

  10. Cheers: Interesting insights! Thanks for that! πŸ™‚
Yeah, same here, Streamyx works for me and they’ve been around so that’s why I’m sticking with it.
I agree with you, it’s just coz they have such a huge subscriber base that there’s bound to be people unsatisfied. Can’t please everyone and all that. πŸ™‚

  11. Streamyx is still the best for unlimited download and upload. Also, MSN doesn’t disconnect like wireless broadband. I think I’ll apply for it next year kekeke.

  13. gan: Well, I’m not sure about other broadband providers, I’ve only used Streamyx ever since I started (before that it was TMnet dialup). πŸ™‚

  14. horace: Oh well, not sure about that service, have only been using Streamyx since it started. πŸ™‚
David: Hmm…as in 95% alcohol? Yeah I guess they do. The people over here use kerosene though, I’ve seen a group of fire breathers in Penang (a state over here) positively getting high off the fumes. Heh!
Anyway, it’s not a contest, it’s a show about bloggers. Hope you enjoyed it! πŸ™‚
Hey, just noticed you have a VERY INTERESTING IP address, would love to know more about your line of work. Cheers buddy!
