Caviar and chocolate on wholemeal crisp rolls

chocolate caviar rolls

I’ve been down with the flu for the past few days and just woke up totally ravished after not eating for almost 24 hours. I rummaged about in my severely diminished pantry and decided to go with something very salty which doesn’t require much preparation as I’m still a bit sluggish.

Enter the tube of Smogaskaviar I got a few days ago. It’s not real caviar (cod roe, salthe roe, pacific cod roe for 51% of the total contents) but it is extremely salty. Heh.

It comes in a tube that I’ll rather call fish roe spread and I squeezed it all over a bag of wholemeal crisp rolls. I wanted to break the salty monotony (and monopoly) after the fifth one so I decided to top it off with a piece of dark chocolate.

It’s surprisingly good, but would taste better if I had melted the chocolate.

It ain’t chicken soup for the soul but it sure is another one for the continuing bread story. smirk

  1. HB, it not strange but a now popular to have anything sweet and savory. It all over in states with bacon and chocolate. I like bacon on top of ice cream.

    • STP’s right; at your current situation, I also think that you should go easy on heaty foods.

Try something soft like porridge. Here’s my personal experience with chocolate: I ate too much of it and have had to deal with painful mouth ulcers.

      • Yeah, I just bought a watermelon while grocery shopping just now.

Sorry to hear about your ulcers! I don’t have that problem, fortunately.

        Thanks Ciana! πŸ˜€

  2. Could it be you are having too much durians which is heaty? Arthur is correct. Drink more juices, and have plenty of rest bro. The combinations you made is great though, but dun take too much πŸ™‚

    • Hmm…I can eat a lot of durians (with whisky/cognac) and feel fine. πŸ™‚

It’s just the flu that’s going around, caught it at a bad time.

Thanks buddy! I just bought a watermelon. πŸ˜€

    • Heh! It comes in a combo, usually retails for about RM 20 separately but cheaper if you buy similar type items (e.g. ones that go together).

      Cheers mate! πŸ™‚

    • Haha! You can get it at the shop mate, they sell it at a discount sometimes if two things go together. I got this last weekend and it’s been sitting there since.

      Cheers! πŸ˜€

Yeah, there’s a nasty flu bug going around and I caught it. I haven’t been sick in a while so this put me down for a few days. I’m good now.

      Cheers! πŸ˜€

Hey, I do have wasabi at home. I ate all the bread though, so I’ll have to wait to try that one out.

      Cheers and likewise! πŸ˜€

    • Yeah, I reckon it is and it’s really cheap compared to other places with a good amount of cocoa too! πŸ™‚

I’ll drop by for some groceries if I happen to be there.

Yup, the chocolate is sweet. When I recently used 3/4 pack of it to bake a coffee-infused chocolate cake, I had to omit the sugar and throw in a bowl full of chopped figs for the balance.

I presume the crisp rolls are just as salty too? Hey, I was just wondering, you should buy that tub of ready-to-make dense bread. It easily satiates the growing stomach. =D

I’m good now – got lots of fruits (including a watermelon I just chuck in the freezer) grocery shopping just now.

Yup, the crispy rolls are quite salty, much more sodium than regular bread.

I didn’t see that tub of ready-to-bake bread. I’ll have gotten it. 😑

  6. Hey there!

We eat those caviar things here in Norway, except what the “traditional” way of eating is to have it on top of some toasted bread/Wasa crackers, and hard boiled eggs.

Other than that, its also traditional to eat it on top of some bread/Wasa and cucumber slices.

    Try it sometime! πŸ˜€
