I’ve been down with the flu for the past few days and just woke up totally ravished after not eating for almost 24 hours. I rummaged about in my severely diminished pantry and decided to go with something very salty which doesn’t require much preparation as I’m still a bit sluggish.
Enter the tube of Smogaskaviar I got a few days ago. It’s not real caviar (cod roe, salthe roe, pacific cod roe for 51% of the total contents) but it is extremely salty. Heh.
It comes in a tube that I’ll rather call fish roe spread and I squeezed it all over a bag of wholemeal crisp rolls. I wanted to break the salty monotony (and monopoly) after the fifth one so I decided to top it off with a piece of dark chocolate.
It’s surprisingly good, but would taste better if I had melted the chocolate.
It ain’t chicken soup for the soul but it sure is another one for the continuing bread story.
HB, it not strange but a now popular to have anything sweet and savory. It all over in states with bacon and chocolate. I like bacon on top of ice cream.
Yeah, I’ve heard of that too! π
It sounds sinfully delicious! I’ll love to have some. Haha!
Flu? Take lots of fluids…fruit juices would be good. I don’t think chocolate’s good for you…nor durians. Too heaty, I think.
STP’s right; at your current situation, I also think that you should go easy on heaty foods.
Try something soft like porridge. Here’s my personal experience with chocolate: I ate too much of it and have had to deal with painful mouth ulcers.
Yeah, I just bought a watermelon while grocery shopping just now.
Sorry to hear about your ulcers! I don’t have that problem, fortunately.
Thanks Ciana! π
Thanks buddy! π
Yeah, I just eat them coz there’s nothing in the fridge – just came back from a grocery run.
I also bought a huge watermelon. π
Could it be you are having too much durians which is heaty? Arthur is correct. Drink more juices, and have plenty of rest bro. The combinations you made is great though, but dun take too much π
Hmm…I can eat a lot of durians (with whisky/cognac) and feel fine. π
It’s just the flu that’s going around, caught it at a bad time.
Thanks buddy! I just bought a watermelon. π
looks special~
Heh! It comes in a combo, usually retails for about RM 20 separately but cheaper if you buy similar type items (e.g. ones that go together).
Cheers mate! π
Wah! Something special LOL, don’t mind to send me some? π
Haha! You can get it at the shop mate, they sell it at a discount sometimes if two things go together. I got this last weekend and it’s been sitting there since.
Cheers! π
oohh where did you get yr Smogaskaviar from?
I got it from IKEA, was there during the weekend! π
Bro take care and hope you get well soon..
Seems everyone is getting sick.. most of my colleagues are either been coughing and flu…
Thanks buddy! π
Yeah, there’s a nasty flu bug going around and I caught it. I haven’t been sick in a while so this put me down for a few days. I’m good now.
Cheers! π
I think cod roe, salthe roe and pacific cod roe would go with anything ! LOL .. and I Love dark chocolate too.. sooooo, that looks like my kind of snack!
Yeah, it’s pretty awesome stuff eh? π
I like how salty it is, goes well with a lot of stuff.
It’s pretty good, but I wish I had melted the dark chocolate first. π
Aww..speedy recovery to you.
Psst..squeeze abit of wasabi on it. Very yummy!
I hope you will get well soon. Take care of yourself and have a great weekend ahead π
Yvonne
Thanks Yvonne! π
Hey, I do have wasabi at home. I ate all the bread though, so I’ll have to wait to try that one out.
Cheers and likewise! π
IKEA STUFF FTW! Dark choc is awesome laaaah π
Yeah, I reckon it is and it’s really cheap compared to other places with a good amount of cocoa too! π
I’ll drop by for some groceries if I happen to be there.
Cheers Jess! π
I wish you a speedy recovery, HB!
Yup, the chocolate is sweet. When I recently used 3/4 pack of it to bake a coffee-infused chocolate cake, I had to omit the sugar and throw in a bowl full of chopped figs for the balance.
I presume the crisp rolls are just as salty too? Hey, I was just wondering, you should buy that tub of ready-to-make dense bread. It easily satiates the growing stomach. =D
Thanks Ciana! π
I’m good now – got lots of fruits (including a watermelon I just chuck in the freezer) grocery shopping just now.
Yup, the crispy rolls are quite salty, much more sodium than regular bread.
I didn’t see that tub of ready-to-bake bread. I’ll have gotten it. π‘
OMG what a combi! No i’ll never bring that near my mouth. hahah
HAHAHAHA
Yeah, it’s a bit of an aquired taste once you’ve been sick for a while and lacking both sodium and sugar. π
Hey there!
We eat those caviar things here in Norway, except what the “traditional” way of eating is to have it on top of some toasted bread/Wasa crackers, and hard boiled eggs.
Other than that, its also traditional to eat it on top of some bread/Wasa and cucumber slices.
Try it sometime! π
