Lady Bug aerial fireworks – launches several stories high!

lady bug fireworks

I came across some interesting novelty fireworks this year. The Lady Bug is a fist sized firework painted like a ladybird that’s supposed to launch several stories high into the air. I thought that was quite an impressive claim so I got a few packs.

It’s sold in a pack of 3 for RM 15, which makes it RM 5 for each of the ladybird fireworks.

Lady Bug fireworks is basically a spinner connected to an aerial shell-like lift charge. I think that’s how it works – I didn’t dissect it to find out. smirk

The ladybird fireworks really shoots up to 4-6 stories. It’s variable – I’ve seen some that goes higher (about the same range as a 3” aerial shell would go).

I’ve seen a lot of people lighting these off – it’s a straight vertical lift after some furious spinning action. I reckon a *report* at the end of it’s apogee would make it more interesting though. πŸ™‚

    • Oh? Just watched the video. No massive explosion once it gets airborne? Hmmmm….cute…not dangerous (just make sure it flies straight up into the air)…but no happy ending. Sounds like anyone you know? LOL!!!

      • Yeah, I thought having a salute (explosion) would vastly improve this firework too! πŸ™‚

It flies straight up without the need for a mortar tube (which is what you’ll need for those 3″ and 5″ aerial shells to guide the shell when it lifts off). I think the spinner and shape helps with that or else people would be able to light 3″ shells on the ground without a mortar.

        HAHAHA

Happy ending, unfortunately not, I think it would be highly dangerous to have a powerful salute built in without having a mortar tube to guide the flight. πŸ˜‰

Novelty fireworks, it’s a spinner with a lift charge, but executed so well (the shape and spinning action helps stabilize the near-vertical takeoff). I think it’ll be hard to go straight up without a launcher / mortar otherwise to guide the flight path.

  1. Awww….the very cute ladybugs. At first, I thought it will just make a few spins and that’s all! Ok..my heart was pounding so fast the moment it flies straight up into the air which I thought it will end with with a massive explosion which it didn’t…ahhahahahhah

      • Yeah, it’s quite big so I reckon it was capable of launching up quite high (the lift charge for a standard 3″ shell can go into the lady bug fireworks).

It’s a nice piece of novelty fireworks – love the high powered spinners before the lift charge goes off. πŸ™‚

Just got them in this year, I noticed that more and more of our fireworks doesn’t come directly from China anymore.

I mean, it’s *still* made in China, but it’s packaged for sale in another (usually European) country and then it comes in from there. I thought it would be better with a salute (explosion) too but if it’s going to fly that high without a guiding method (e.g. mortar tube) it might be a tad dangerous to have something spinning that fast and then launching with a salute at the end.

I though it was a bit anticlimactic too. Haha!

It’s still quite interesting though – the lift charge is set off after the spinning has stabilized the entire firework, which eliminates the need for a tube. I wanna see if it will still fly straight up if I hold it down so it doesn’t spin. Hmm…

      • Ok…..I have zero knowledge about fireworks and firecrackers. All I know is lit it and it goes BANG! ahahhahahah

It is interesting to know so much about all these. Thanks for sharing it with us. I bet the seller will not dare to cheat you when you buying from them.hahahahahahh

Happy Happie CNY, Huai Bin. One more week to go before CNY ends. GO FULL THROTTLE!!!

Just light the fuse and see what happens!

I actually do that to a lot of things when I was younger but now I understand the concept behind it after opening up some of them. I had the good fortune (???) of a Whistling King cake blow up on me so I could take a look inside and find the bombette – it’s a really cool design which makes it whistle on the way up to the air.

You can hear the shaking sound when you move it, unlike other fireworks cakes.

I still kena cheated on the Shun Lee Hung firecrackers – RM 30 is too much to pay for them, it’s usually RM 15, but it’s close to CNY and they jack up the prices. I found out later another place was selling a different version (8888) which is shorter but just RM 10.

    • Yeah, I was quite impressed by how high it can go too! πŸ™‚

Ah! Awesome stuff buddy! I Googled the word to find out what it means too. Heh.

There’s an interesting trend of fireworks coming in from non-traditional channels (e.g. not directly from China) nowadays, meant for export to European countries. I got a *huge* salute called Achtung – also new this year and saw in a TV report that it can take off a hand.

Damn, I’ve been holding onto those things while I lit it. πŸ˜‰

    • Haha! Good question bro!

Chances are, it will but it’s such a light piece that it wouldn’t hurt anyone.

The large ground cake aerial fireworks (repeaters) also churns out a lot of debris – which can be pieces of chalk the size of a marble. It just falls all around – there’s heaps of junk on the porch extension roof after CNY eve – stuff from the wood from rockets to random crap like this.

I get showered with lots of debris when I let off fireworks barrages.

It won’t hurt anyone though, but I guess it might surprise someone if they’re not expecting it. πŸ™‚

    • They might bring it back next year if it’s a popular item. πŸ™‚

I saw a different version of the 200 shot fireworks cake last year. It’s a square 100 shot mini barrage cake now instead of the long 200 shot version but essentially the same thing. That’s a popular one last year coz it’s affordable and viewing distance is optimal for most people and it’s a nice display of different fireworks which isn’t too dangerous due to the small mortar tube size.

Putting a salute on top of it? Hmm…you just gave me a good idea.

      HAHAHA

I don’t know how it will affect the aerodynamics though but I strongly suspect putting a large salute on top will prevent it from lifting or alter the flight path (my salutes are all tubes, the shell type salutes are too heavy).

It’s worth a try, gotta rig up a long Visco fuse for the delayed detonation though. Or maybe not. I have some Achtung (huge Polish salutes) that has a 5 second Bickford fuse so that’ll work. I doubt the lady bug can lift off with such a heavy load though.

      Cheers bro! πŸ™‚

    • Yeah, I thought it was cute, the way they made the spinner go out of the lady bug’s mouth, making it look like a snout. πŸ™‚

I would have liked it better if there was a salute at the apogee when the lift charge goes off, or at least a starburst, but I don’t think that’s possible without a mortar tube to direct the path.

It’s pretty cool, I didn’t expect it to go that high, I thought the guy was exaggerating.

I just gotta light ’em fuses each year or it wouldn’t be Chinese New Year. I always let one off during the reunion dinner, get a proper start to it.

      Cheers mate! πŸ˜€
