My first day trip with the M&Ms

sunway hb ling

Took a day off and we all went to Sunway Lagoon. It was a really fun trip and very different from what I’ve done in the past. I can really get used to this though. πŸ™‚

ling noodles

Ling had cooked some noodles for breakfast, which I ate in the car while she drove. She also put a little note in the carry bag, which I didn’t notice. It’s little things like this that makes her awesome! I got her an anniversary gift and she forgot, but you know what? She doesn’t need to coz every day is an anniversary for her, she gives me random surprises that makes me happy.

sunway lagoon

(or maybe she’s still guilty about the anniversary gift and she’s making up for it)

Kidding dear! smirk

porcupine

There’s a package for 2 adults and 2 children that came out to RM 275.

wristband

We went to the Wildlife Park. Feeding horses were on the agenda but we couldn’t find the horses.

tapir

Going on the Volcano – a dry park ride with the big one. It was so much fun we went twice.

volcano

We still had our bags at that point – one small backpack for me and a large gym bag for her (which I both carried) and I had to sweet talk the operator to let us on. She didn’t allow it at first coz there was a “no bags” rule and no place to put them, but with my powers of persuasion, she relented and let us all through. πŸ˜‰

teacups

Next, we went on the teacups together, and spun around till we were dizzy. These are huge teacups which can fit 6 people if you squeeze.

locker

I finally got a RM 30 multiple use large locker to chuck our stuff in. Essential!

coffee

Why M&M? They’re sweet, with a candy layer! πŸ™‚

carousel

Those are the only two rides we took – spend the rest of the time at the water park. No slides though, we didn’t do what we want – we did what the kids want and I found that very rewarding in itself. The end result (i.e. seeing them happy) is the reward. πŸ˜€

surf zone

Rented a RM 20 two-person float and dragged everyone around the canal that rings the surf pool like a moat.

souvenir photos

I also dragged everyone (since I was the only one who could swim) into the surf pool on the two-person float. There was this guy going around taking photographs with a waterproof camera and I wanted one to remember this day. πŸ™‚

marrybrown

We ate a very late lunch at Marrybrown (fast food again ;)) and I got a very irritable server who didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. I put up her with for the big one and then got so annoyed I asked her what her problem is, and gave her a very stern lecture about front line customer server, to which she immediately backed off and started apologizing.

wristband rfid

I hate people like that – they’ll give you all sorts of body language and indicators that they don’t want to serve you, included the furrowed brow and tsks of annoyance but once you confront them, they are timid mice. She kept on apologizing to me but I bet she’ll do it after a while to the next customer.

surf pool us

Anyway, all is good, we got our (dubious) nutrients and headed off for more swimming!

multiplex 5d sunway

Oh, and the big one was tall enough to go to the new 5D Waterplexx (supposed to be the world’s first) but the little one wasn’t so I took her to watch it while the girlfriend took the other back to the surf pool. It’s quite an experience – 3D, with motion chairs and sprays of water. The big one got so scared she didn’t want to look at the screen and was pulling my hand across her eyes.

keychain

I got souvenir photos of the day out too! Bloody rip off prices but damn worth it! Everyone got a piece to bring back of our first trip out together – mine was a keychain. πŸ™‚

  1. I hate people like that too (the server with an attitude) but I can never pluck up the courage to confront them. I’m glad it did not ruin your day bro πŸ™‚

    • I didn’t want to coz I had a kid with me and I didn’t want to raise my voice so I just raised it *slightly* just to get the point across. πŸ˜‰

I was very annoyed at the server’s attitude, like me adding on orders was such a bother so I told her off. I think I shocked her even though I remained relatively polite, just confrontational – I asked “What is your problem?” in a tone that suggested I was very close to being very angry and when she immediately backed off and *pretended* nothing happened with a false appeasing smile and a “Who me?” look, it got me angrier so I told her off.

It didn’t ruin my day, I was having a blast with everyone. These things happened, I gave the server a piece of my mind and she was super helpful to me after that.

I intentionally went back to the same line to get chicken nuggets for the kids. Haha!

    • Haha! Well, I just wanted to write about the happy day. πŸ™‚

The names aren’t important, just want to remember this very nice day trip. I realized it’s not cheap to have kids though, trips like these cost about RM 500 (with entrance, souvenir photos, meals, trips after to Sunway Pyramid mall for the amusement park, ice cream etc).

It’s very much worth it though.

  2. I’m not surprised, as the tickets to Sunway Lagoon are pretty pricey.

It’s good that you summoned the courage to confront the server and teach a thing or two on mannerism and customer service.

And there’s a Marrybrown there? Surprise, surprise.

    • Indeed! The entire trip cost us around RM 500! It’s not cheap to have kids nowadays, I was kidding to the gf about the scene in The Simpsons where Maggie was scanned at the supermarket cashier and the amount USD 847.63 flashed out (bit of trivia there haha am a huge fan). πŸ™‚

That was back in the late ’80s – cost to raise a baby per month I think.

Yeah, I was very annoyed by her attitude towards customers. She was rude to the customer before me too and I didn’t want to make a fuss as the big one was beside me but I don’t like front line staff giving me faces and tsk-ing me either so I told her off in front of everyone. Worse thing was, she acted all apologetic and gave me an appeasing smile and tried to placate me when the manager walked over.

She was good after that though – went to her line again to order nuggets for the kids and noticed she was super nice to me. I hate people like that, if you don’t want to work front line, do something else, and leave the front line service for people who are nice and polite coz I’m always polite to them.

Yup, the only fast food place there, it’s a place for children, attracts them. I had a burger and coffee.

    • Yeah, my line of reasoning is, if you don’t like working front line, don’t work front line. I’m always polite to servers and staff so there’s no reason to give me attitude. Front line staff shouldn’t behave that way. I didn’t want to make a fuss but she really took it to whole new levels so I cannot tahan and told her off. Didn’t want to at first coz the big kid was with me.

It’s been a while since I’ve been there too!

The kids loved it, I wanted to go down the vortex slide, but didn’t coz it was a trip for them. I did go for the new 5D Waterplexx though, smaller one couldn’t go (need to be 110 cm tall at least coz of the moving seats) so the girlfriend took her to the surf pool while I brought the big one with me coz she wanted to go (mainly coz I piqued her curiosity, actually, I was the one who wanted to go haha). Very long queue, waited 30 minutes to get in, and only coz the family in front of us was in a group of 6 while there’s just the 2 of us so we skipped ahead.

Don’t think it’s meant to be for kids though – 3D is realistic, plus we were in the front seats, so the water sprays were quite intense (and cold). Scared the 7 year old for a while, I told her to take the 3D glasses off and not look at the screen.

It’s pretty good though, surprisingly realistic. I think there should be an warning as well as a height requirement though – maybe 9 years old or something like that, reckon it’s not meant for smaller kids, a sign saying it might have scary elements would have been good. Big one was brave though, didn’t freak out, thought she was about to. πŸ™‚

  3. nice….never been to here though almost went once when my kid pestered me, only to be hold back by my wifey. she thought the kids were too small then. Aiya…those kind of servers only spoilt people’s day, should complain to the manager.

    • It’s quite fun if the kids are older (5-7 years old) and they can swim. It’s still fun if they can’t swim, but you need to jaga more coz I don’t think the life guards can look out so so many people. πŸ™‚

Yeah, the manager was beside the server, she apologized so I thought all is good, didn’t want to spend too much time there with a written complaint when the little ones wanted to go swimming.

I reckon it can be fun if the kids are older, not so small that they’ll forget about the place or isn’t big enough for most rides (which requires 110 cm – about the height of an average 7 year old). Cheers!

    • Thanks! It’s a water park right in the middle of town, where we stay. It’s 30 minutes away from “most people”. I still had a lot of fun though, it was different in a lot of ways to the trips I usually go on.

I do love her and I think I’m the lucky one, to have her. πŸ™‚

  4. Hah! That was where I fell and broke my arm…and after the shabby treatment I got, I would never ever set foot in the miserable place again!!! Hmmm…she looks thin…and kind of sad. It’s in the eyes!!! Treat her well, it works both ways…not her pampering you all the time, k?

      • I know how tiring it is for you dear! I hope I have helped out in that regards. I don’t mind it at all and it’s good to see that they don’t mind me either! πŸ™‚

I still think it was a lot of fun, I’ll help out more so it isn’t so tiring for you. It’s meant to be fun for all of us, not just the little ones, dear! <3

Yeah, still need to feed you more!

    • Haha! I doubt you remember how tiring it is to bring kids along to these places. πŸ˜‰

It’s all good though, we had fun, and I tried my best to take the load off her. I treat her very well, it’s not my fault that she doesn’t blog about it. Hahaha! Kidding dear.

I don’t think a lot of people know what we’re going through, so speculations and gossip and “armchair psychology” are the last things we need from our “friends”. Thanks! πŸ™‚

Yeah, I heard plenty about you breaking that arm. I lost a digicam once in Sunway, didn’t get any help from them in looking for it too.

No worries, we didn’t go for us, we went for the little ones, and I can see how tiring it makes her, although I’m okay with it. πŸ˜€

    • Haha! It is sweet of her to do that! πŸ™‚

I think that it’s nice that we make the effort to do stuff like this. It’s important to a relationship, I’ve always believed, keeping the romance alive.

    • Yup, those are delicious noodles indeed! πŸ™‚

I love the stuff that she cooks, she always says it’s not nice, but it’s delicious! Except for the ketchup, I’m more of a chilli sauce person. Haha!

Yeah, it’s been a while since I’ve been to Sunway Lagoon too – went a couple of times with friends and there were events held there. I think this is the first time I’ve went with my girlfriend and definitely in this configuration. I had a lot of fun!

  5. What you said is true about having kids these days when the commercial businesses take great trouble to attract the kids so that parents will have their pockets drained and milked. My friend complained to me that he took his 2 kids, wife and his mum for 3 nights in Singapore. They visited Universal Studios and did some shopping. He spent over RM10,000 and came home angry instead cos he felt he spent on nonsense just to please the kids.

Looking at your Sunway Lagoon photos, I do see much changes in it. The last visit of mine was 3 years ago when I accompanied a friend’s family there. It was a fun time and it was the company that made it enjoyable. I might drop by again soon.

    • Yeah, very true mate! πŸ™‚

I noticed that about a lot of these places – it’s highly targeted towards children. I’ve read bout marketing to kids and the legality and ethics of it and it’s quite interesting stuff. Kids can differentiate brands from a very young age and more and more marketers are targeting this lucrative segment, which drives spending from their parents/guardians.

Sorry to hear about your friend’s experience. I think it’s all about how perspective, I felt it was worth it coz it’s within our budget, it pleases the kids and we had fun too.

It has changed a lot since the last time I was there, which was probably a year or two back. It’s quite fun if you have kids that likes water and if you like water.

  6. Heh πŸ™‚ It is kinda pricey to have kids. The cost of everything automatically goes up even when you aren’t doing much.

Nowadays, I pack lunch out for the kiddies instead of eating out.

    Reply
    • Haha! True that. The price of everything automatically multiplies by 2. πŸ™‚

A packed lunch would be nice but I don’t think Sunway Lagoon allows that – they have a very strict policy against outside food and water so you can pay for the RM 5 small cup of coffee, but it’s all good. We had fun and that’s the important part.

  7. Looks like a fun day out! And you’re right HB, it’s not cheap going anywhere if you have kids in tow but it’s worth it just to splurge once in a while. But anyway, it could be just me, but am noticing how you guys are starting to look soo alike, haha, totally meant to be me think πŸ˜‰

    • Yeah, it was a really fun day trip! πŸ™‚

Indeed, it’s worth the money just to see them happy. I even bought the souvenir photos, being the chump that I am. Haha!

I do have a waterproof camera but forgot to bring it for the trip. It’s all good though – we have something to remember the trip by.

We’re starting to look alike? Not a bad thing at all. πŸ˜‰

      Thanks Cas!

    • Yeah, Sunway Lagoon isn’t very cheap – even admission will be quite expensive if we didn’t take the 2 adults + 2 kids deal which requires MyKads and MyKids (e.g. only for Malaysians).

I don’t mind the enforced food and drink rules, I think it’s alright for places like this, to earn revenue from F&B and also to prevent people coming in for a picnic and leaving heaps of trash (there are other places for that).

I thought it was fun for the kids, and us too. It can be a bit tiring (have to say this even though I don’t feel it haha) but it was a great day trip! πŸ˜€

  8. *grinz* So you bring the two lil Monsters along eh? Big E and Small E? They’re really sweet, especially the Small E. πŸ˜€ Love her so much. Gosh, miss her badly now. Been awhile since I last saw her. Wonder if she’s grown taller. She’s always a lil baby in my eyes.

    Reply
    • Haha! Yeah, they’re really cute, the two monsters. I thought both the big one and the little one is sweet. πŸ™‚

Kids grow up really fast, I think the small one must have grown bigger since CNY but she’s not big enough to fit into the older one’s clothing yet.

I like the bigger one too, I thought it was sweet that she wanted a copy of the photo too. She loves water, that one, brought her to the 5D Waterplexx coz the small one wasn’t big enough so she went with the mom while I queued for about 30 minutes with the big one for the water show. It was scary for her though.

I love the day trip, nice way to spend the weekend, I love her and I love the kids. πŸ˜€

      • It is so heartwarming to read posts like this one. When you love a person, you love her children too (or try to πŸ™‚ ) All the best to you and Ling and I hope it works out well for you this time. You are a good man and you are both lucky to have each other and the children are lucky that you are so accepting of them in your life too!

Don’t take heed of the ‘unsavoury’ things that others say about this relationship!

Yup, that’s what you do when you love someone. I didn’t even have to try, they’re adorable. πŸ™‚

Cheers for the vote of confidence buddy. I’m lucky that they accept me too and no worries, we won’t let any naysayers ruin our relationship. We have each other, and that’s enough for us.
