I love dogs!

dog yum

Ever since I admitted to a certain indiscretion during my youth on Yee Hou’s blog chronicled in the comments here:

Hmm…I’m not sure if PETA reads your blog but I’ve done it before with a couple of friends when I was really young. Involved a stray dog, similar situation (target, rather) and a firecracker tied to said anatomy.

I know it’s evil. Sorry. I think I was 10 or 12 back then.

Dr. Tan: I have a little question though. How the hell did you manage to get hold of the dog and not have him bite you?

WTF man so evil one you.
Huai Bin | Homepage | 08.01.08 – 12:01 am | #

It was quite easy. The dog was a stray and thus quite easily tempted by food. It (he) was eating the Chinese New Year bak gua and my friend duct taped either a chai lei or ta di lei gong (those huge crackers) to his scrotum area.

I am sorry to say that I was the one who lit the fuse.

Dr. Tan: I once threw a chai lei onto a zinc roof of some kampung guy and a hole appeared.

I also heard rumours that two da di lei gong can blow apart a public phone, after which you can access the coin box.

What happened to the dog?
Huai Bin | Homepage | 08.05.08 – 11:35 pm | #

I don’t know. It ran away like a bolt of lightning after the firecracker exploded. There were drops of blood on the floor and everything. My bad.
Huai Bin | Homepage | 08.06.08 – 5:21 pm | #

I have felt the urge to repent and proclaim my love for all canines around the world. I love dogs. I’m sorry I aidded and abbetted in neutering one with a firecracker in my youth. =D

  1. Is that your pet? Ha ha your hair style like Albet Einstein. I never hurt animal even when I was a kid and that is a cruel thing you did there. Talking about fire cracker, once I light a ‘chung tian pow’ and it shoot into my neighbour house and luckily no one was hurt ;p

goolooloo: Yeah. It’s like SHOCK. HORROR. Kinda works a bit like a social experiment, really. I wonder how many people did that as kids but never fessed up to it. I did. πŸ˜‰
Oh well, I was just 10 or 12 then, legally, I’m not even culpable for crimes. πŸ˜‰
Roland: Nope, it’s Irene’s dog. I went to her house when I was in Kuching over the weekend. I don’t have your phone number la. Email me at sixthseal@gmail.com

  3. Oh yeah! I did that before! My cousin and I were really experimental. One CNY, he grabbed a stray dog outside his house and I quickly tied, I think it was da di lei gong to the tail, near the asshole, as in very very near. LOL! I lit the thing up and we ran for our lives. We went back but the dog was nowhere to be seen! LOL πŸ˜‰ LOL! Sigh, the good ol’ days!

  4. You actually think its funny?
Damn. And to think I actually enjoyed reading your blog. That dog would have either died of septicaemia or loss of blood. No excuse, 10 or 12 yrs old. Even my 1 year old niece can differentiate between right and wrong.
Clare, you call it the GOOD ol’ days???
I’ve got just ONE thing to say to all you sick, deranged people out there.
    KARMA CAN BE A BITCH.
    -pun totally unintended-

  5. Clare: Yeah, I remembered doing a lot of stupid things as a kid with firecrackers like throwing several chai lei and da di lei gong into a Milo can and then slamming the lid back on. Shrapnel galore. I’m glad I didn’t get hit. πŸ™‚
(=’.’=): Thanks, I’m more of a cat person. I like dogs though, it was just something kids do. Burn ants, pull legs off insects etc.
My hair went through the ordeal of an express boat due to an assignment I had to do in Kuching.
    It’s windswept.
    annant: Thanks for reading! πŸ™‚
Yeah, I admit it was a mean thing to do, but yeah, being kids and all we didn’t really think about consequences and stuff like that.
HaveAHeart,HaveABrain: Well, I don’t think it’s funny. It’s just a childhood memory I recalled. I don’t condone it and certainly won’t pull something like this now, but what happened happened. It was a mean thing to do, I admit.

  6. Fuck man. I can’t believe you did that. Or that Clare actually says it was the “good” old days.
I’d be fucking ashamed if I’d actually done that before.
Just because you admit it while others don’t or that you couldn’t be arrested or whatever for it doesn’t take away the fact that it’s one sick thing to do.
And Clare definitely disgusts me with her “LOL”s.
You say you don’t think it’s funny. But the whole tone of the entry suggests a “check this out. funny eh?” attitude.
    Anyways. I’m ranting.
    It’s just fucking fucking sick.

    Reply
  7. well yeah i’d agree that that was fucking sick, but dude was a kid at the time and kids are rather tactless creatures with not much regard for things such as the damage he dealt to that poor dog.
kids just do dumb stuff, so aren’t you guys a tad harsh here?
heh anyway hb, i just wanna say, nice seeing cookie here. even if the rest of the entry was rather… gory to read. -_____-“

  8. I have to agree with Dora; you’re tone is far too casual and dismissive. I could forgive the birds nest incident — at least you seemed to feel bad about that — but this is really disappointing.
    And Clare! Fucking ridiculous.

  9. Dumb asses…..just because u were young does not give u any right to hurt the animal. I don’t remember making animals suffer when I was 12.

    Reply
  10. Dr. Tan: Yeah, I think I have a troubled childhood. πŸ™
Dora: Well, I don’t disagree with the gist of what you’re saying but people do stupid things when they’re kids. Some people shoplift, some people steal their teachers cell phone etc. I didn’t do any of those, but I won’t condemn someone who did that in their youth.
That’s life, it’s not all black and white, it’s all shades of grey.
I agree that it’s sick, but oh well, what’s done is done right?
    Irene: Cheers Irene! πŸ™‚
Yeah, I know what you mean, one guy in rehab threw this cat up onto the (hot) roof of one of the buildings. I heard her meowing and being a cat lover, took a ladder and risked life and limb (well not so dramatic la) and rescued the cat from the hot zinc roof. I just love cats. I was kinda ridiculed by my mates for being such a cat lover but I don’t really care.
On the other extreme, we have this dog neutering incident. Oh well.
Cookie is a nice dog, very hyper. Haha! Attention span of a goldfish. πŸ™‚
Wat: Oh, you remember that post. You’re one of the older readers. πŸ™‚
Hmm…that was quite a few years ago. Well, like what I said to Dora…people do stuff when they are kids. Just the way things are…
jessy: Now this Cookie character you’ll love. Irene’s dog. It’s very small, very hyper and very nice. πŸ™‚
Yen: No, I didn’t say it gave me the right. I don’t remember shoplifting or playing doctor with my cousin when I was 12 too, but I wouldn’t condemn anyone who did that either. It’s all in the past.
Life is not black and white, my friend.
Clare: Yeah, and it’s easier than most people realize! I find myself doing that too when I was actively using. I would use statements like:
I’m a drug user but at least I don’t (spike drinks/rape people/commit crimes) etc and then proceed to bash the latter group. I’ve learnt to be less judgemental and get off my high horse and learned to be more tolerant. It’s experience and maturity and level of exposure. Some people just don’t get that. πŸ˜‰

  14. nkwai: well, yeah, but considering the lifespan of dogs and the fact that it happened a good 15 years ago, the dog would have died of old age by now anyway. πŸ˜‰
goolooloo: Eh, no lar. The phrase is a commonly used one from the bible, usually quoted from the “He who is without sin, throw the first stone” bit in John. However, this phrase comes from the Metallica song “Holier than thou”. πŸ™‚
Not hinting anything la, don’t be so sensitive. I’m just sick of replying all the comments like it’s “Let’s Bash HB Day”. I wouldn’t do it now, most people don’t get that. It was done in the past, and yet somehow some readers insinuated that I will/am going to do anything like this now, which I WON’T.
The chronological aspect of the events is lost on a lot of readers. All I see is knee jerk reactions and people following the herd mentality. I kinda expected that, but it was fun to see it happening anyway.
I’m a big fan of social experiments. πŸ™‚

  18. I have corresponded with a reader who has shown me the errors of my ways and it made me think about the insensitivity of the post. I apologize for any offense taken. Reproduced here with permission:
    Huai Bin,
I’m avoiding posting this as a comment for two reasons. First, I’m
guessing it might get to be a little long for a comment. And second, I
don’t like the social dynamics of on-line chatting; it’s usually at the
mercy of the lowest common denominator.
I found your post disappointing, and some of the comments left by other
people offensive. This might make me sound like a reactionary,
judgmental blowhard, but bear with me for a minute. I recognize that
we’ve all done things in the past that we regret and would never to
today — I certainly have — but our attitude about those periods
matters. While you said what you did was wrong, you seemed to want to
chalk it up to childhood indiscretion. It’s this cavalier attitude that
rubbed me the wrong way. Then you implied that the people who strongly
objected were being immature, as if shrugging off this kind of cruelty
is a part of becoming a worldly adult. I think integrating this kind of
experience, no matter how long ago it happened, is an important part of
maturing. Maybe that’s not the only way to do things. Maybe it is
possible to dismiss our actions and move on in a healthy constructive
way. Even if that’s true, I think your responses showed an insensitivity
    to other people’s feelings.
    -Walter
Hello Walter and thanks for your feedback about this matter. I have
thought about it and I realize that you are correct. I shall seek your
permission to post up this email in the blog comments and apologize
formally. You’re right. I guess it’s just me being desensitized to a lot
of things and I should have acted with more regard to other people’s
feelings. My sincere apologies to you and the other readers. Thanks
for the wake up call buddy. It sometimes takes a third person to
really show things as it is, and I appreciate that. Take care.

Take over Android, get buzz in the handheld arena again and take on Apple in a big way – don’t give this to AT&T and call it a day. I know SE hates CDMA but make it for Verizon and AT&T at the least, and Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile if you’re serious about this thing making an impact. It’s gorgeous and this is very exciting. The choice of touchpads instead of analog sticks is interesting. It could work, but odd since we know they are capable of thin nubs for sliders (Go).

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
