The Dumpling Teahouse

the dumpling teahouse

The Dumpling Teahouse is an eating establishment specializing in beef noodles and dumplings. It’s located near Mitsu Shabu Shabu and the interior is not air-conditioned despite the split units visible from the exterior. I’ve been there twice and they never bothered to switch on the air-conditioning, probably due to a lack of customers.

the dumpling teahouse sign

The good thing about The Dumpling Teahouse (besides the cute name) is the relative privacy of the place. It just doesn’t draw a huge crowd although the beef noodles are pretty good. I’m not sure if it’s due to poor advertising or just plain bad feng shui, but the place never really took off. ;)

teahouse interior

Geomancy Sifu: Your walls not good. Bad for luck. Money all flow out like water in the river. You should turn on air con. The ceiling fan blow all your money away!

teahouse fan

Geomancy Sifu: OMFG! You got a big fan as a decoration some more! No wonder la. Money all fly away.

teahouse beef noodles

Geomancy Sifu: Nevermind, I eat your Beef Noodle (RM 5). Payment for services rendered.

teahouse beef

Geomancy Sifu: Your beef chunks very big. Soft and tender too. Soup very spicy. I like. Increase man’s vigor. Noodles also curly, flat type. Good for longevity.

teahouse dumpling fried

Geomancy Sifu: Bring some Chives and Pork Dumplings (RM 4.50) for the leng lui here. Can choose fried or steamed izzit? I want fried. Eh, wait, Chiew Fong (Autumn) doesn’t eat pork. Nevermind. I eat. Quite tasty.

teahouse dumpling steamed

Geomancy Sifu: She half vegetarian, so give her Mushroom Chicken Dumplings (RM 4.50). What la, you guys all pork and beef one. Steamed, not bad. Had better though.

teahouse chiew fong

Geomancy Sifu: Your beef noodles good but your dumplings so so only. I suggest you rename the place to The Beef Noodle Teahouse.

teahouse bulb

Geomancy Sifu: Hmm…your 9 mm (bulb) is like a guiding light in the night shining bright. Eh, sorry, I rap.

  2. the place actually looks pretty nice, despite the good Ambiance and food so establishment still fail to draw the crowd. At least they’re getting a little publicity from sixthseal.com hehe

  3. You and Your damn piccies of Food…Hmmm Beef Noodles – I love them! The broth is just to kill for….Hmmmm So I should have visited Sibu when I was back for 3 weeks in Kuching huh? Looks like all the nummy food has all concentrated in Sibu or is it that my parents just suck at showing me great places to eat? LOL

  4. I can tell why people don’t go to this place. It’s the front step and pot plant positions. Bad Feng shui :-(
Also next to the menu on the window are two mice… bad bad bad.. mice in restaurants very bad
Unless you have creative french rodents doing the cooking ala Ratatouille. :-(
Lighting I think is not very creative either.
And finally the food, I suspect the kitchen staff are not pulling their weight and could do with a good shouting at…. in the Gordon Ramsay style of course :-/
    Bon Apetite’

  7. Hot beef noodle soup in place with no air condition is not good. They should install one and advertise. Many food business even have own blog with menu to make more people come to their restuarant.
I have seen good business failed due lack of people knowing of it. Food reviewer always help make business get attention.

  8. Waah… said you have a girlfriend and now you have a post with Chiew Fong (Autumn) in it. You guys seem like in a galfriend-boyfriend relationship… sure really close and look good together too. You sure she isn’t your gf eh HB? :) These days you can’t really tell whats the real story behind what is presented to the public. The food looks ok btw. Have a great Friday and weekend dude.

  9. Hey HB, that looks good. A lot better than the college food I’ve been eating for the past two weeks
As far as the restaurant goes it would probably help their business if they added A/C to their amenities and rearranged the furniture so it didn’t seem so cluttered.
Oh BTW, did you get the e-mail I sent you HB?

  10. * Now I know i’m a tad too late for this but… * Oh My Gawd!!! I’m too thrilled to see you again Huai Bin! I really missed your blog and seeing your pic – you look much better now eventhough you’ve been on some weight :) – keep it up man!
I really wanna welcome you back and it’s such a nice feeling to see you blogging again coz… you dunno how much i missed reading your blog til I haven’t updated my Own blog for God-knows-how-long already :( and I for sure will continue blogging once again

  11. I like this comment…..”you look much better now eventhough you’ve been on some weight :) – keep it up man!” Right, keep it up until you look like suituapui! Hahahahahaha!!!!
Don’t like spicy beef noodles, that’s Taiwan style or whatever! I prefer the clear soup type!
Wah! Feng shui master, please come to my house and see what is wrong and why I am so poor…!!! Izzit I’m too fat and block out all the good feng shui? ROTFLMAO!!!

  12. BLue: I’m hungry as well. Today is not a good day, it’s just one of those days that I wish I could just pack up and leave for another city and sleep for a week. Oh well.
butterscotch: Chiew Fong = Maple leaves in Autumn. Chiew = Autumn and Fong = Maple leaf. It’s not the phoenix “fong” but the maple leaf “fong”.
    e: Thanks buddy! :)
Yeah, decided to write something different for a change. Heh!
Haha! Yeah, it’s very nifty for that. Still makes a sound though. ;)
Darren: Yeah, the beef noodles is pretty good. The dumplings are okay, but a far cry from Mitsu’s delicious dumplings which is just about a shoplot away. The service is good though, and the food is cheap. It’s the feng shui, I’m sure of it. ;)
Coki: You wanna eat me as well? ;)
clement: It’s the same lane as Mitsu. I don’t know if that’s Foochow Lane or Hardin Road. Should be Foochow Lane.
Skwermy: Yeah it’s very beefy broth. Spicy too. I’m salivating just thinking about it. You should have come over to Sibu, it’ll have been fun and it’s just a 35 minute flight away. :)
Hmm…Kuching has a lot of good food too, perhaps more than Sibu. Maybe your parents are used to eating at their own favorite places. :)
Jeff: Haha! I love your comment. :)
The food comes out pretty fast actually, the service is good. Bad feng shui though. ;)
Choonie: Yeah, it’s quite cheap actually since kopitiams are also charging the same prices (and some even higher).
cbenc12: It is, I’m thinking of going there during lunch but parking is horrible around that parts.
Thomas: Exactly! Hot soup does not go well during lunch (and even at night) unless there’s a cool breeze or air conditioning.
Yeah, it seems like everyone and their pet fish has a blog now. ;)
The awareness of this place isn’t there, it’s been open since the beginning of this year and hardly anyone knows about it.
The Bull: Hmm…this is a very tricky minefield to navigate. I’m not even going to touch that topic with a 10 foot pole. ;)
You have a great weekend too, my friend. Cheers!
bigwillie: Well, everything I’ve ate has been better than the uni food at the slops (Monash University, Clayton Halls of Residence cafeteria). Yeah, the air conditioning should have been switched on.
I didn’t get your email, perhaps it was marked as spam by Gmail. Send it again to sixthseal@gmail.com. Cheers!
    Cheryl Wee: Hello Cheryl! :)
It’s great to have you back here. I’ve been missing my old readers. Yeah, you don’t have to use euphemisms, I’m okay with it, I know I’m fat now. ;)
Thanks for the support and thanks for reading. You should continue blogging, it’s quite therepeutic.
    p-t: Thanks mate! :)
Yeah, decided to use a different writing style for a change. Update my writing skillz. ;)
Leng lui = Cantonese for “beautiful/pretty girl”
suituapui: Haha! Well, I’ll try, but it’s quite hard to beat your record. ;)
The spicy beef noodles are great though, the clear soup types (Sabah Menggatal style) is good too, but this has more oomph to it.
Hmm…your house eh. Well, I think it’s coz one of your neighbours is getting married and absorbing all the good feng shui from our area. I’m getting a stroke of bad luck as well. :)

  13. if autumn isn’t your gf how come she seems to ‘surrender’ herself to you kinda way? Well, it shows in the pics. Are you doing her as well? How bout your young gf? Doesn’t she feel annoyed to see you hugging other chick and blog about it? Sorry, just can’t help having this weird thought. Have a nice weekend man. Gbu.

  14. Dear HB, this is an entertaining posts for me. Love the way how you did the Feng Shui for the restaurant. LOL
I have been in LA for a few days already, eating all kinds of Asian foods. But yesterday, I have to say the Filipino foods blew me away. It was awesome!!!
Another two more days and I have to go back to the oh-so-quiet Raleigh. :(
    *hug* from LA

  15. vincent: I don’t read Chinese, sorry.
def: That’s a very good question…to which I have no good answer. ;)
Have a great weekeend, my friend. Cheers!
xin: It tastes like sze chuan cuisine too, hot and spicy. I love it. :)
Six months ago!?! That’s a rather long time between beef noodles. ;)
fish fish: Thanks fish fish! Appreciate the kind comment. :)
Yeah, LA, it’ll love to go there. Filipino food? Hmm…come to think of it I’ve never actually had that. Authentic ones, I mean.
