Pyrotechnics – Fire twirling, fire eaters, fire dancers

fire performance

I caught a rather remarkable street performance at Gurney Drive on the first night I was in Penang.

The fire performance by the duo was pretty impressive – they had swirling flames galore and an impressive fire breathing portfolio that had the crowd cheering.

fire twirling

I just can’t figure out how the dude can put so much gasoline in his mouth and not get high.

I could smell the gasoline fumes from a meter away…

fire eater

Oh wait, I know. He was high. πŸ˜‰

  1. You could have said you were in Hawaii and we would have believed you….even though the obvious hula hoop girls were missing.

  2. tzia: It’s pretty awesome eh? I stayed there the entire performance, it was great. Lots of fire twirling. πŸ™‚
ink27: Hmm…but he would likely have some brain damage from inhaling all that solvents. πŸ˜‰
Not a good idea, IMHO. Solvents are the best way to decimate your grey matter. πŸ™‚
Jeff: Me too, I know someone who’s into this. I’ll get in touch with her and practise. It sounds like a lot of fun. πŸ™‚
shadowking: Haha! Yeah, it’s awesome. Well, I don’t think the kids nowadays (if there are any reading, which I doubt) are so impressionable anyway, since they have TV and the net. πŸ™‚
Naruto: Heh! Well, there’s like well toned dudes. Hula hoop girls are missing though. πŸ™
JW: Haha! I love that reference. It’s a bit different with Bill’s cannabis adventures during his youth though – I used to experiment with solvents. Gasoline is a killer, even passive inhaling (instead of huffing) from a receptacle causes euphoria.
    Vickie: Thanks! πŸ™‚
It was rather hard to snap the photos – had to experiement with a lot of dSLR settings since it’s so dark and the guys are moving around. πŸ™‚

  4. M-Knight: Yeah, it was awesome. I’ve got the performer’s numbers if you want them for events. I don’t know if they’re based in Penang or they’re willing to travel though.
Hmm…we went to a lot of temples, don’t know we managed to go to Dr Sun Yet San though. Lemme check the photos when I get home. πŸ™‚

I don’t need a lot of sleep to function – 4 is good enough for me. 6 is better. πŸ™‚

  6. Wow, awesome long exposure shots. Pretty cool how you’ve managed to master exposures within such a short time of owning a dSLR πŸ˜€ Keep the awesome shots comin! πŸ˜€

  7. ju: Thanks! I’ve been playing around with the dSLR a bit, trying to get good shots from the situations where I am worst at (night shots and incandescant/mood lighting + low light + interior conditions).
Cheers mate! I’ll keep ’em coming. πŸ™‚

I like the first photo, but I focused on the guy in front of me so the other guy blurred when he moved. I was shooting at high ISO speeds too.

  9. Hey, I’m looking for fire eaters like these for an event as well, do you think you could give me their contacts if you have them? Thanks!

  10. Yeah, I do. I’m actually just scouting around for acts right now, so any kind of contact would be good. Could you just drop me an email with their contact? Thanks very much!
