Gimme a break…

I’m a big fan of KIT KAT. It’s awesome stress food. I tend to reach for one at work (I keep a stash) when things get hectic and I need a quick break. I remember hunting down their limited editions back in 2006. They came out with Nestle Kit Kat Limited Edition X1 Cappuccino Flavor and Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavor Limited Edition 02. I’ve even had the Nestle Kit Kat Strawberry Limited Edition specially brought in from Japan.

There are a lot of promotional bars in Melbourne when I was in university – from the KIT KA$H wafers to KIT KAT Chunky bars where a select few contains a fake plastic contraption (with a similar weight and size to the regular bars so you can’t distinguish it) which sings when you pull it out. If you get this “singing” Kit Kat bar, you’ve effectively won yourself a round-the-world trip.

I’ve always wondered why Malaysia doesn’t have similar promotions…until now:

I’ve always loved reading Roald Dahl’s works and I adore his vivid descriptions of food. This reminds me of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Golden Ticket…for adults! Instead of winning a trip to a chocolate factory, you get something much better – an all expenses paid trip for two to see MTV’s Featured Artist of the Month live in concert…anywhere in the world!

Repeat after me: All expenses paid trip, anywhere in the world!

I love travelling and music so I went to the nearest 7 Eleven after work and raided their Kit Kat supply. You just need to look out for this sticker:

Kit Kat has distilled the contest mechanics into three simple steps:

1. Have a break
2. Have a KIT KAT
3. Check inside pack

I’ve eaten several bars of Kit Kat today for lunch. I also got a couple of my coworkers to dig in – on the condition that the chocolate is free, but if there’s a prize inside, I’m keeping it. πŸ˜‰

I haven’t found a pack with a prize yet, but I still have a stash of Kit Kat and the contest only ends on August 28 so there’s plenty of time to work my way through the Kit Kat bars. There are iPod Shuffles and music CDs up for grabs too…check out the details here.

Good luck!

  1. I love kit kat too! I’ve tried all the limited edition (the ones sold in Malaysia and Singapore)and thought the lemon cheesecake and orange one is the best! Kit kat is hardly sold in Kedah tho’ – it is actually not halal. If you check the packaging, it does not have the halal logo. My lecturer once told me that Kit Kat has pork substance in it. Don’t know how true it is tho , (and could not care less since I can eat pork. LOL) … but if it’s true, I guess that’s what makes it nice. πŸ˜›
*Just got myself the classic Kit Kat in the uni mart after reading your post!

  2. Let me be pretty honest with you now hb. I have, for the past 5 or 6 months, been under the suspision, that nuffnang is a pretty good money making operation. You get paid by nuffnang, and nuffnang gives out a few ‘assignments’ for paid advertisement spots. You seem to really enjoy doing pieces based upon marketing, esp if it has an element where you can add your own creativity.
Is this how it works? Seems like a great buisness idea.
I still read, and will read your blog. I’ve been reading it for like 5 years now, but surely you can write about something more ‘hb’-ish. Remeber when you posted that image of your shit. That, to me, was a post that represents one of the better sides of this blog. Showing your life, good and bad. Being able to read and almost live vicariously through your posts. It seems a bit more difficult to do it now with all these ads…

  3. HB, they had the strawberry one limited time on Valentine Day only and never saw it again in San Francisco. Beijing I did seen in stores Green Tea Kit Kats. Wish I brought some back with me. Brought instead sushi flavor Lay Potato Chips and it tasted not good at all.
The Lemon Cheesecake flavor sound good but none so far in states.

  4. The olden Kit Kat with the aluminium wrapping and the slide out wrapper is still the best, hands down. Miss those days.
I used to follow the Kit Kat ad by sliding it out den cutting the aluminium foil with my finger nails then breaking it. It was such a habit, I still do it now with all the choc bars I buy which still uses the aluminium wrapping

  5. Jessica: I only have 2 shirts which I wear to work with any regularity. πŸ˜‰
    I like those two shirts.
chefmel: Interesting! I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info! πŸ™‚
I’m a sucker for limited editions too. Heh!
ShaolinTiger: Old skool! I remember those as well but now I prefer the Chunky bars. Tastes better, IMHO. πŸ™‚
    More killer, less filler.
annant: If you’re living in the PJ area, you can just come and pick it up. πŸ˜‰
Jan: Okay, next time my friend goes to Japan, I ask her to buy. πŸ™‚
Shirley Snow: Japan. It’s a limited edition in Japan only. πŸ™‚
Mike: Thanks for the feedback bro! Yeah, I do enjoy writing them, it allows me creative freedom to do it from the angle I’m writing from.
However, I do understand your concern and rest assured, I will not disappoint.
I just posted up something you might like and more is to come next week (on other classic stuff).
You know the tagline, here at, we ALWAYS aim to please. πŸ˜‰
Thanks for reading and cheers for the feedback! πŸ™‚
Cheryl: I haven’t finished all the Kit Kats yet, I might win it still. πŸ˜‰
    Good luck! πŸ™‚
Kiran: I know! I’m like so fat now. πŸ™
Vickie: I love all the limited editions too! πŸ™‚
fish fish: Yup, I still remember you bringing them back as well as cigarettes and alcohol. Thanks fish fish! πŸ™‚
eiling: It’s been more than a few pounds dy. πŸ˜‰
Marlboro Guy: I do that too! Damn advertising, makes it look like the proper way is to use a nail to perforate the foil. πŸ˜‰
Insidious isn’t it? I started doing that when I saw the Kit Kat advertisements too. πŸ™‚
miche: You don’t need to, just swing by PJ to pick it up. πŸ˜‰
I keep the wrappers though, you can have the Kit Kat. πŸ™‚
    mike aka foodcrazee: Haha! πŸ™‚
