Food swap!

ling hb

I have to admit, I have been lacking in my updating duties lately, primarily coz I’m in love and I’m spending a lot of time with Ling. I often come home exhausted but happy. That’s what it’s all about ain’t it? πŸ™‚

The good life…

Anyway, today I’m going to write about our food swap. It wasn’t intended as that per se, I just turned up with McDonald’s take away (she wanted a Spicy Chicken McDeluxe) for two but she had already cooked for me so I swapped with her instead.

curry chicken
Curry chicken with potatoes!

I felt bad coz she gave me all the good bits of the chicken. I’m particular that way. I only eat dark meat (thighs, drumsticks) but I don’t think I told her that. I don’t remember telling her that anyway but that’s what she packed for me.

It was piping hot, very good stuff.

mussels peanuts

Ling also had some pork rib soup going with mussels, peanuts and gourd. I was telling her about the gourd after I ate it. I asked her if you’re supposed to peel the (rather furry and rough) skin. She said no, it’s supposed to go in like that.

pork rib soup

Well, I was wondering out loud why someone would eat that skin, considering the less-than-palatable texture, and she said you’re not supposed to eat it. It’s meant to be peeled before eating. You’re not supposed to eat the seeds either (which were kinda sour).

bones

I ate everything and left only bones.

I then washed all the containers and put my favorite candy into each one of them so she’ll find it when she opened it up. I also managed to stuff a can of Milo inside one (so she’ll have something to drink when she gets gastric). It took me quite a while to get everything into the various shaped Tupperware and tiffin carriers.

happy ending

Baby, I forgot to tell you this but your t-shirt that day sounds a bit wrong. smirk

I do want that for us though. πŸ™‚ Not the alternate version, the literal meaning.

    • Hmm…good question buddy! πŸ™‚

I don’t know what kind of gourd that is – it tastes a bit sourish though but balances well with the mussels and peanuts and pork rib that she threw in. The soup is sweet but the gourd a bit sourish.

  1. Well, like the lines from an old song – fairy tales do come true…it can happen to you. Looking forward to the “…living happily ever after” part! Wink! Wink! Hmmm…I can see that she can cook very well. Hoping for nothing but the best for the two of you. Cheers!

    • Yup. I do believe in fairy tales and happy endings now. πŸ™‚

Hey buddy, you’ll be our wedding singer for sure! There’s no one better suited to the task. I’ll be honored if you accept.

Thanks for the well wishes for the both of us!

  2. That curry chicken looks good. Any chance she might share the recipe on your blog?
I am very glad to learn about your new personal situation.
You have come a long way since those early days posting about chemicals.
    All the best.

I’ll ask her. It looks and tastes good, especially since it came piping hot.

Yeah, those good ol days have been supplanted by new and better memories with her. I’m lucky to have her.

      Thanks for the well wishes!

  3. Mami cooks this ‘old cucumber’ soup with the skin peeled off. Simple because skin is dirty ma.

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. So true! I must polish up my cooking too!

Eh PDA (Public Display Affection) is a faux pas le πŸ˜›

    • Oh, it’s “old cucumber” soup? I didn’t know that.

Haha! No la, it’s up to everyone. It’s not a faux pas if it’s accepted. I’m just like that and I like holding her hands and hugging her.

Hmm…true in a sense, but I didn’t fall in love with her coz of her cooking – it’s the combination of her personality, looks, down-to-earth nature, etc. It’s her that makes her *her* and that’s who I fell in love with. πŸ˜€

  4. She always prepared your food neatly. The rice, the arrangement. So thoughtful.
Hurrmm…when I boil that ‘old cucumber’ soup..I’ll de-seed but remain its skin too. When I eat..I’ll use a spoon to scoop it out. Like eating kiwi πŸ˜‰

    • Yeah, even when it was fried noodles last night, it was presented very well with the pork belly slices. She really can cook well. πŸ™‚

I wouldn’t want her to do it all the time though, I should chip in with the chores.

Haha! Yeah, that’s the proper way to eat it. I just ate it whole.

    • Okay, I’ll do my own delivery if you want. πŸ™‚

      Special delivery service. Haha!

I also like the Spicy Chicken McDeluxe, never ate McChicken after that.

I’m a very lucky person and I appreciate that. <3

  5. With skin or no skin is optional (so obscene me)…. I am pretty sure that I drank these soups many times at big restaurants and they came with skin! So she is not wrong dei.

LOL. I like that T-shirt and am sure the wearer sends the message out to just you.

    • Haha! Yeah, true that, she told me that the skin is supposed to be removed before eating, but I didn’t know it when I was eating it.

The t-shirt is a giveaway from some contest. I don’t think the manufacturer meant for the alternate message. πŸ˜€

  6. I usually de-seed it but keep the skin in. I’ll wash the skin thoroughly and usually just eat everything. Sometimes I do leave the skin but it’s optional for me..hehe..

It has been a while since I last cooked any soup for my boyfriend!! But tomorrow I’m planning to cook nasi lemak so the soup will have to wait till next week..But YAY to homecook food and soup!!! Happy for you. =)

    • Yeah, that’s how Ling does it too! She kept the skin in and de-seeded most of the gourd. πŸ™‚

Haha! I ate everything as well, I don’t mind, was just wondering if it’s supposed to be eaten.

Nice! I’m sure your boyfriend would love that. I want to cook for her too!

      Homecooked food is the best!

Thanks Ping Ping! All the best to you too!

It might not be your cooking, maybe it’s just him. You deserve someone better.

It’s all good mate. Yeah, I’m very happy and lucky to have her.

She’s an angel to me, I’m glad I got to know her.

Indeed…more than just a tagline change, might start a new one when we have a family. I’ll still keep updating sixthseal.com of course, but the new one would be for the family. Haha!

      No pressure, dear. πŸ˜‰

    • Yeah, it’s really nice! πŸ™‚

It was de-seeded but there’s still some seeds around, which I ate.

It turns out that it’s not curry chicken – it’s stewed potato chicken. I don’t know why I tasted curry inside. Haha!
