My romantic birthday getaway @ Philea Resort in Melaka

philea spa resort

This is where we went for my 32nd birthday! πŸ˜€

philea melaka

Philea Resort & Spa in Melaka is actually 20 minutes out, near the butterfly farm.

philea resort checkin

It’s a pristine and quiet enclave with chalets made of pine!

philea honeymoon

It’s beautifully rustic with all the modern amenities you can think of. The entire resort is made of wood – warm lamps and high ceilings gives it the feel of a cozy log cabin.

philea resort spa

I’ve never actually stayed here before and Ling had arranged a birthday surprise trip for the weekend – a romantic getaway to celebrate my 32nd birthday!

philea welcome drink

There’s a bathtub filled with rose petals…

philea honeymoon package

Flowers scattered throughout the room with rose petals spelling β€œLOVE”…

rose petals bed

…and breakfast in bed!

breakfast in bed

(more about that later)

cake

It’s their honeymoon package, I believe, and I thought that was pretty smart of them (they even had a cake in the package, which doesn’t actually cost much for them since they need to bake it for their bakery anyway).

philea dinner

My birthday dinner! It’s instant noodles that we cooked in the room, one after another. There’s also Godiva chocolates and Royce chocolate covered chips, Ramune and other miscellaneous stuff we brought so we didn’t have to go out. <3 philea resort cart

The next day, at 10 am, a cart arrived with our orders the previous day for breakfast in bed!

philea breakfast

We had it in the balcony though. Haha!

breakfast bed

Check out the spread. I had poached eggs and she had an omelet. It was quite a large potion.

breakfast balcony

I enjoyed the muesli the most.

philea pool waterfall

They had a nice swimming pool with a waterfall at the end too.

rock shower

The showers are built right into the rock outcropping, which was a nice touch.

swimming pool

I swam in it while Ling hung on to me coz she can’t swim. I realize I can tow someone like that for quite a while, although I swallowed a lot of their heavily chlorinated water. -_-

philea birthday

I had a wonderful time at Philea Resort, just chilling in the room with my love. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday – it’s perfect dear! <3 philea resort lobby

The only downside was the sound of cars drifting. We’re puzzled as to why this foreign sound would mar the silence of this beautiful place but could never pinpoint the source.

philea resort rooms

There’s no soundproofing and it’s a lucky thing that the occupancy rate was low so we had the place to ourselves.

philea chalet

I really enjoyed just chilling in the room, being with Ling. I was surprised there’s such a quiet place so close to KL but I don’t think it’s cheap either.

balcony breakfast

The service was excellent and although we didn’t use much of the facilities there – we just wanted to enjoy each other’s company – I like the concept of a quiet pine resort. Philea Resort & Spa in Malacca was perfect for that.

honeymoon package

Thanks for making my 2013 birthday a memorable one. I love you. *hugs*

    • Yup, it’s an awesome place! πŸ™‚

I didn’t know it existed, and just 1 1/2 hours away from KL too.

Very relaxing place, would love to go again. I had a great birthday weekend. πŸ˜€

    • Indeed! I loved the birthday weekend! πŸ™‚

It was one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had, just chilling at the resort.

  1. Such a romantic post. I always like this resort, but haven’t got a chance to be there yet. Seems like the honeymoon package is very nice. Love the rose decorated bed and bath tub.

    • Thanks Andrew! πŸ™‚

It’s my first time here too, and the honeymoon package is really good. I like how they decorated the place with rose petals. It’s a nice touch, with breakfast in bed and cake to boot.

    • Yeah, it isn’t cheap at all. However, it was a luxuriously nice vacation, better than Sepang Goldcoast would be, I like the privacy of this place, there’s no one, it’s relatively unheard of and unspoiled.

The service is really good too!

We had an awesome time together! πŸ™‚

  2. Philea Resort is definitely something that is “straight off the silver screen.” From the likes of it, I’m reminded of Pulau Redang and Golden Palm Tree Resort.

No soundproofing? Hmmm, not too good.

What are the rates, though? Golden Palm Tree Resort (in Bagan Lalang) isn’t cheap either.

    • Yup, but it’s better than Golden Palm Tree Resort if you want privacy. πŸ™‚

The latter is good too, but there’s always too many people. However, the service from both is equally good.

I’m just glad she chose Philea Resort & Spa coz it’s quiet and there’s not many other residents.

I believe the honeymoon package is RM 499 nett with breakfast in bed, cake and roses. It’s a promo though, not sure if it’ll last.

Now, it’s my turn for her birthday this weekend – planned for a trip out of the country. πŸ˜€

  3. I spent a 3D2N stay there during my anniversary. It was a nice gesture of them to surprise us with a yummy chocolate cake and roses. I miss this place…and I enjoyed staying here.

    Nice getaway arranged by Ling!

    • Nice! Yeah, the service at Philea Resort is really awesome! πŸ™‚

I like how you can call the carts to pick you up too – it’s kinda like Golden Palms Resort in Sepang, but it’s a lot quieter, and there’s no beach, which isn’t a bad thing since you’re immersed in nature.

It was really nice for her to arrange this, now it’s my turn for her birthday with a trip overseas. I was debating between two resorts – a 5 star one in the heart of the city or a boutique one outside the city and decided on the later (both are priced the same due to a promo).

Philea Resort is a really nice place, and we’ll be back again. I love the place!

        • Haha! We didn’t know there’s a motorsports circuit near Philea Resort but we had fun anyway. πŸ™‚

I’m planning a trip for her overseas, it’ll be at a quiet boutique resort.

I like Philea Resort, I just thought the placement of the motorsports circuit really damaged the serenity of the resort.

          Thanks Mel!

          • I actually preferred a quieter resort rather than at a busy street.
During my stay at Philea we did not encounter any racing noise. *luckily*
Else its really disrupting lor. No likey

          • Yeah, good thing you didn’t encounter the drifting noises! πŸ™‚

My birthday was on Ching Ming (Cheng Beng) maybe they had an event there. Otherwise, if the resort is quiet, it’ll be perfect.

I didn’t know it was in a busy street, we didn’t get out of the pine wood resort except for the swimming pool. Haha!

            What would you recommend? πŸ˜€

    • Yup, it’s a nice and quiet resort, that’s the important thing! πŸ™‚

We wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much if it were the school holidays. It’s not the peak season and we practically had the resort to ourselves.

    • Haha! Well, we had a lot of fun together, it was a very romantic and sweet birthday getaway! πŸ™‚

I liked how the resort was practically empty and there’s no noise. I bet this place would be super noisy otherwise coz the log cabins are made of pine and there’s no soundproofing.

    • Yup, it’s a very peaceful resort! πŸ™‚

I really loved the time I had with my loved one during my birthday weekend. It’s perfect!

  4. Ahhh..no need to eat out, just eat and drink love would be enough. LOL!! ;-D

Nice resort and generous portion of brekkie.

    • Haha! Yeah, that was the general plan! πŸ™‚

We only went out to the pool the second day. It’s a really nice resort, service was excellent!

Breakfast in bed was good too, but only with the honeymoon package I believe.

    • It’s absolutely wonderful! πŸ™‚

I loved the pine wood rooms and chalets and the resort is quiet too (except for the godforsaken drifting sounds – don’t know if there’s a Go Kart track in the resort or a drifting location somewhere).

It’s a nice place for romantic getaway, we’ll be back!

    • Yup, it’ll be perfect for families too! πŸ™‚

The pine wood resort can transmit sound quite easily though so they provide free flip flops and ask you to keep the sound down in the signs in the room. No smoking too (coz of the pine wood).

Strangely, it’s quite hot in the rooms coz of the heating lamps they use and the high windows, but the air conditioning helps.

It’s a nice place just 1 1/2 hours away from KL. We loved it!

  5. I’m a sucker for underrated place like this! Try The Roots Eco resort in Ipoh. By far one of the best place I have stayed in Malaysia. Hehe ( not gunning for traffic but I just wrote about it last week. Haha) I’m sure you’ll enjoy there too.

    Reply
    • Me too! πŸ™‚

I thought it was really nice of her to book this for my birthday present! It was an awesome romantic getaway!

Roots Eco eh? Sounds promising! There’s a camping place I wanted to go too – Tanah Aina, but never got around to coz I planned an overseas trip for her birthday.

I’ll go check it out. Thanks Mel!

        • Yup, there’s a stream beside where you can camp and the camps fits single beds too! πŸ™‚

          I thought it’s a nice nature retreat.

Awan Mulan with bad service eh? I’ll watch out for it.

          Thanks Mel!

    • Nice! Our breakfast was a breakfast-in-bed deal, we filled out the form during check in and they came with a cart full of breakfast at the stated time the next morning. πŸ™‚

We didn’t check out any of the amenities, not even the spa or sauna! Just stayed in the room with a sojourn to the swimming pool the next morning.

It’s a nice relaxing place, except for the mysterious sound of drifting cars, which can be quite distracting. I loved it!

      Reply
    • Yeah, it’s a very chill and romantic getaway! πŸ™‚

Only downside is the sound of cars drifting…apparently there’s a race circuit somewhere near it. It really mars the serenity but otherwise it’s all good.

      I like the excellent service!

  6. The sound of drifting cars should be from the nearby racetrack, Melaka International Sports Circuit. Pity about the proximity.

    Reply
    • Thanks for the clarification! πŸ™‚

We were wondering why there’s the sound of drifting cars. It really affects the ambiance of the place, I thought it was quite out of the city as it is, but the racetrack definitely is a bane to the serenity of the resort.

I loved my birthday weekend though, had a lot of fun, but I can imagine the deep engine roars and screeching of tires when the cars drift to be a problem for the resort.

  7. This place looks nice as a great resort and I would pay any price if I like that place, right?

I agree that Sepang Goldcoast is not a good place even for a holiday or to celebrate anything! They should not have built it.

    Reply
    • Well, I think Golden Palm Resort at Sepang Goldcoast is alright, it’s just for different occasions. πŸ™‚

I enjoyed my stay there but honestly, the beach wasn’t anything special but I like the water chalets with the balcony that faces the sea.

Too bad a lot of people use that for fishing (!!!) and there’s a lot of noisy people there, which spoils the romantic part.

I reckon Philea Resort is a better bet for a quiet, romantic getaway.

    • Haha! No worries mate! I haven’t heard of it before either! πŸ™‚

I just went last weekend to celebrate my birthday. It’s actually a very nice resort! I’m surprised it’s so well hidden with low occupancy rates (which is good for privacy).

Too bad about the noise from the racetrack though, it can be really distracting since it’s loud and you’re in the middle of nature and the pine wood chalets transmit sounds easily.

      Still worth a visit though.

Awesome planning by my girlfriend – she really chose well, a nice and quiet resort where we could spend our time together.

I’m lucky to have her! <3
