7 things we did on Valentine’s Day

1. I gave her flowers that lasts forever

blue roses

I originally ordered a bouquet of blue roses but unfortunately, they looked rather worn down and sad when I arrived to pick them up before going to the airport (more about that soon). I wanted to surprise my dear with flowers at the airport but I didn’t want these miserable looking specimens.

However, the place was pushing flowers that lasts forever (or at least a good 3-5 years). These *forever flowers* are real flowers, not fake ones – they have been freeze dried, which preserves them and makes them keep their scent and shape for several years (more if you don’t expose the flowers to oxygen by opening the case).

I thought that was a pretty meaningful gift. I had RM 65 credit at the store coz I refused the flowers so I used them on this. I wanted our relationship to be like this too – something real, which lasts forever! <3 2. My dear flew down to Sibu

I was still in Sibu at the time coz of my mom so my better half decided to fly down as a surprise and told me to pick her up at the airport! It was just for the weekend, but I’m glad we managed to spend Valentine’s together – she flew in on Valentine’s Day itself (Friday) – and we both flew back to KL on Sunday.

3. We celebrated Chap Goh Meh and Valentine’s Day at my grandma’s place

chap goh meh

Chap Goh Meh is also known as the Chinese Valentine’s Day. My dad was flying out to Singapore the next day so we decided to go to my grandma’s to eat and only celebrate our own Valentine’s Day dinner the next night.

4. We had ice-cream in the car

It’s a simple thing to do but it’s one of the things that’s “ours”. It’s a bit of a tradition and something we both like to do.

5. Valentine’s Day dinner

cafe cafe

I brought her out to Cafe Cafe (they also have a sister lounge called The Queen) for Valentine’s Day. It was a day late but we had a great dinner in Sibu. This is one of the better places to go if you factor in ambiance – just get a seat at the back coz the front is really noisy.

It was wonderful coz we didn’t have a lot of time together (just slightly more than 48 hours before we had to fly back) and the full day that we had was perfect!

6. She mailed me my Valentine’s Day presents

My better half thoughtfully boxed together a care package containing Granola Maple Pecan cereal and an assortment of candy bars, all with their own messages inscribed on them.

It was lovely!

She always takes a lot of effort in putting together something nice. I love you dear! *hugs*

7. I gave her a personalized fireworks show

Yup, I left two of my biggest fireworks cakes till she came back on Chap Goh Meh/Valentine’s Day (which falls on the same date in 2014) and let it off for her to see at night.

I also managed to convince her to light a few of the less dangerous ones.

I had an awesome 119 shot fireworks cake that discharges all the bomblets in an aerial barrage lasting probably 10 seconds, which is a pretty intense display.

It was a great Valentine’s Day and I’m glad I have my dear with me. 🙂

  1. Gee!!! Didn’t know of such flowers. That would be much nicer than spending a fortune on those that will only last a few days. Wish we could have got together when Ling was here – been so sick, and then my friend passed away…certainly not a great start to the new year. 🙁

    • It’s apparently a relatively new process! 🙂

They freeze dry the flowers, some flowers works better than others, roses works very well. I think the process is labor intensive, that’s why it’s expensive. I just read about it in the link above from a place that does it in Australia.

Yeah, I was waiting for you to get well. The flu bug certainly has been going around, I was sick on the last day as well and could barely eat lunch. Sorry to hear about your friend. No worries, catch up next time!

  2. I am also surprised by this flower and really wanna buy them too!!

Adoi! Both of you always SO SWEET & made me smile cos i will get diabetes very soon!!! 2 love birds always manja-manja with ice cream, flowers, dinners, kitchen and now fire works! I want to google now to find out what is sweeter than Honey & Sugar!!!!

The Google Find will show answer >>>>>>> Huaibin & Yeeling caramels.

    • I think it’s starting to get popular! 🙂

The process is known as freeze drying, there’s a link that I found since I was curious as to how it works too.

Haha! Yeah, I’m very lucky to have her in my life.

  3. Eeee.. that flower looks so much nicer and better and sweeter than those in bouquet that only can last for days.

That’s very sweet of her to fly down to Sibu to celebrate together with you.. I always feel happy after reading your love stories on things both of you do together.. 🙂

    • Yeah, and the best thing is that it’s a real flower too! 🙂

The blue rose is freeze dried. There are also some flowers inside, some flowers can undergo the process better than others.

Thanks Rose! I feel happy when I read the stories about you two lovebirds too!

  4. very sweet! it’s always genuinely touching to read your relationship posts. here’s a sincere wish for you, that long after these valentine flowers have fallen apart, your love together will remain as strong or even stronger than now 🙂

  5. Gee didnt know that kinda flowers exist too, otherwise i’dve bought some. I went to Cafe Cafe in Sibu, food was awesome and of very generous portion! Hey happy valentine’s day you too! Looking good together! 🙂

    • Yeah, I just saw them this year! 🙂

Freeze dried flowers, never seen ’em before too. It’s an interesting process though.

Yeah, Cafe Cafe is nice is you get a seat at the back. The portions are huge and it used to be really affordable too, which is why a lot of people go there.

Thanks! Likewise, hope you had a great Valentine’s with your loved ones.

  6. Happy belated Valentine’s to you both! love how you write about your relationship, so sincere and so much love! hehe happy for you 😀

  7. Dear, I m glad we made it for the last day of CNY celebration n also Valentine’s Day! It was great to have you with me too. Love always

Love the flowers very much, dear. *hugs*

    • Thanks dear! I’m glad you flew down to Sibu to spend the time with me! <3

I love the candy bars that you sent all the way and the awesome Maple Pecan Granola. That's very delicious!

I'm lucky to have you always dear! *hugs*

    • Thanks Mela! 🙂

Yeah, I’m amazed that they thought to freeze dry flowers too! It certainly retains the shape and essence of the flower well and it lasts years to boot!

    • Thanks Kathy! 🙂

Haha! I wanted to bring her a proper bouquet of blue roses but the ones they prepared for me was sooo bad that I went for the freeze dried flowers instead.

I thought it would have a nice meaning to it too!

  8. didn’t know there’s such eternal rose!
this year Valentine’s we celebrated differently. rather than just the two of us, we spent the day with our families. lunchy with my family in Malacca then dinner in KL with his family! 🙂

    • Yeah, it’s amazing eh? 🙂

I just found out about the eternal rose this year too. Haha! What a nice name you’ve given it.

They freeze dry the flowers and it can last for years and maybe longer if you don’t expose it to direct sunlight or humidity.

That sounds nice too, Valentine’s is all about loved ones, we celebrated the actual day with my dad and grandma and only went for dinner for two the day after.

    • Thanks Mei! 🙂

Haha! These aren’t plastic flowers, it’s real flowers that has been freeze dried. I thought the significance is great, which is why I got them.

      Real flowers that lasts forever!
