I’ll be flying off to Sibu again later tonight. It’ll be a quick in
and out company trip and I’ll be back on Sunday night. Expect a
chocolate liquor review later tonight when I get my hands on another
one of those while I wait for my flight. 🙂

It has begun…again…
It has returned…just when I thought it was gone for good, it came back. It came back from the dead…
The Sega2 Mini Video Games promotional tie in with McDonald’s is on
again, I bought and reviewed the whole first series with the exception
of one, and I knew about this promo too late…the first one is sold
out!
I managed to get the two that were available, and the store manager
told me she has one of the first sold out ones, and I offered her RM 50
for a mint condition one. She told me to wait 15 minutes and got her
brother to send it to McDonalds. It didn’t have the packaging though,
so I said I’ll give her RM 30, and she accepted.
Three down, three to go. I’ll do a whole review just like last time
(the first Sega promo is in the Best of sixthseal.com archives),
starting Monday.
I got a cheap bottle of Shiraz Cabernet from the change. Hey, she
said it was in mint condition and it didn’t even come with the spiffy
box and manual. :p She was happy with the deal too, and so am I.
Packaging or no packaging, I’m determined to have a complete set this
time.
The difference between 0825 and 2025
I went to the airport to find out that the travel agent our company
uses made a mistake on my ticket and booked me for the 8:25 am flight
instead of the 8:25 pm flight…but all is good, the night flight was
underbooked and had plenty of seats left, so I paid the RM 18 no show
levy and boarded my designated flight. Jesus Christ, someone in the
travel agency needs a good kick in the ass as this trip is crucial.
Limited Edition Merdeka Day Shell Mineral Water
One does not usually associate “Shell” with “water”, in fact, one
does not usually use the letters in the same sentence if one could
avoid it. It just seems unsavory…and wrong. 😉
However, I noticed that Shell had a Merdeka Day (Independence Day)
limited edition mineral water in a glass bottle when I went out for
dinner with friends and I got a couple of those.
It’s manufactured by Eau Claire Mineral Water and its non-carbonated
mineral water in a 320 ml limited edition specially fabricated glass
bottle to celebrate Malaysia’s 47th Independence Day.
Did I mention it was limited edition? 😉 These things always gets
me, damn I hate marketing folks. No offence to any out there, you just
get me every time. 🙂
We went to Yang Ling Sea Food (Stall 32) at Pending.
I paid my respects to my late grandfathers (both maternal and
paternal), who died of lung cancer, and asked them to protect me from
the same fate. 😉 Kidding, kidding. Though some of my more
superstitious friends blanched when they saw me stick my chopsticks in
my food. Apparently, it’s taboo. 😉

Today, the 31st of August, 2004 is Malaysia’s 47th Independence Day from the evil British Empire. 😉
Kuching haze
The haze in Kuching is getting a little (a bit of an understatement)
noticeable. I wouldn’t know what the visibility level for todayis like,
last I saw (no pun intended), the papers quoted something like 100
meters.
This is taken from the top of the DBKU building, overlooking
Kuching. This shows the hazy conditions towards the residential areas,
the first photo shows the town area. If you squint a little, you might
notice two distinct fires going, from the smoke plumes going up.
No doubt caused by open burning on our side and not just our friends down under.
I don’t mind though…haze makes everything look more misty and romantic, sorta. 😉
Sedating Sibu
I woke up bright and early this morning to visit the good doctor. He
opens very early, and I dropped in before I was due for my appointment.
As always, the good doctor doesn’t disappoint. 😉 I told him I am
working in Kuching now and asked for a bottle (500 tablets) of 2 mg
Rivotril (clonazepam).
He said its fine, since I don’t come in often (his words). That’s
largely because I’m based in Kuching. Heh! Anyway, the shocking bit was
when the doctor asked the nurse (whom I suspect is his wife) how much
they charge for Rivotril:
Doctor: How much did we charge for Rivotril 2 mg?
Nurse: It’s RM 1.50 per tablet.
Doctor: RM 1.50? (puzzled tone)
Me: (thinking) You’re ripping me off…that’s double the usual price, but what can I do? 🙂
Doctor: It’s RM 1.50.
Me: Okay, can I have 500 tablets? Just the whole bottle of Rivotril 2 mg coz I’m working in Kuching.
Doctor: Sure, you don’t come in often anyway, and you’re working in Kuching, so that’s fine.
Me: Thanks!
Hmph…that nurse…you price raising person, you…I had to pay RM
750 for the bottle. I also had to sign on a book with different Rx
scripts under Rivotril due to the amount I was acquiring. Strange,
never had to do that before, but the nurse said it’s necessary due to
bulk. Oh well, it’s just a signature anyway. It’s cool though, I don’t
mind, that bottle is going to sort me out for a while. Sedating Sibu…

Pink eye flight
My flight to Sibu was delayed from 8:25 pm to 10:00 pm and then to
10:20 pm, just missing being a red eye flight by 1 hour and 41 minutes.
I guess that makes it a pink eye flight. It’s not so bad though, my
friend who brought me to the airport took me back to town for dinner
and I went back to the airport again at about 9 pm, hoping that it
might depart at 9:30 pm.
Alas, it was not meant to be, and we learnt that it was further
delayed by another 20 minutes. I was given a free Temporary Refreshment
Voucher to offset the inconvenience by the continuous delays. I took
them up on the offer even though I already ate, and went to the
admittedly horrendous airport canteen for their terrible food.
This is what the free dinner voucher provided – fried noodles and a
side dish of your choice. I was torn between soggy mixed vegetables and
a few lonely pieces of chicken swimming in curry that time forgot. I
chose the latter and had 100 Plus for the free drink. The flight
arrived in Sibu in about 35 minutes and it was midnight when I got
home. Long day tomorrow, time to hit the sack. Night folks…

Roy Rogers RM 5 set lunch promotion
It came to my attention that there was a banner promoting the new RM
5 set lunch promotion flapping under the local Roy Rogers signage. It
sounded like a great deal so I dropped by with one of my coworkers for
lunch just now.
This is what the interior of Roy Rogers looks like. There are a few
quirky contrasting design motifs like the tribal mask to the far right
together with the heyday pop culture mini soda cans in the middle to
the general diner style, locally interpreted, in the seating
arrangements. I have no idea what I just said but it sounds pretentious
as fuck and confuses me something awful after I wrote it. 😉
Anyway, back to the food, the RM 5 set lunch promotion is a main
dish with fried rice, a side of veggies and an egg. There are several
options to choose from, namely:
Roy Roger Fried Chicken
Fish Steak
Grilled chicken chop
Chicken Breast Italian Style
Lamb Chop
Boneless Chicken with Vegetables
B.B.Q Steak
Mixed Grill with B.B.Q Sauce
All served with brown rice & egg.
I also noticed that the usual retail price is RM 5.95 which makes
the new “RM 5 set lunch promotion” not that big a deal since it’s just
a mere 95 cent reduction in price.
Nevertheless, I opted for the B.B.Q Steak and my coworker had the
Roy Roger Fried Chicken. I also had two glasses of coke (the drink)
float. The food turnaround was quite fast since the place was nearly
devoid of customers even during peak lunch hour. It took about 10
minutes or so for food to appear on our table.
This is the B.B.Q steak option. The word “steak” is grossly
misleading – I would not call the minute baby-bite-sized pieces of meat
“steak”. I would hesitate to even describe it as “chunks” and to call
this “steak” would require a huge stretch of imagination. That, or
false advertising.
The dish does taste good though, if it were not overshadowed by the
magnificent Roy Rogers chicken (more about that later). The “BBQ Steak”
was infused with delicious notes of wine, leaving a wonderful
aftertaste. The brown rice had bits of ham in it and the runny sunny
side up (just the way I like it!) egg was perfect. And my psychiatrist
told me to work on my (over)use of superlatives.
The Roy Rogers Fried Chicken option however, was truly great. This
is the one my coworker ordered and I helped myself to some of the
chicken from the generous portion. The chicken is fried to perfection
and it was peppered with…er, black pepper. It came out piping hot and
crunchy, and the whole black pepper seeds provided a wonderful
mouth-feel and interesting textures when eaten with the rice.
I’m afraid that I must stop now, before I undo years of therapy. All
kidding aside though, the set lunch is a pretty good deal and the food
is good. I recommend the Roy Rogers Fried Chicken option.
Oh, and I saw another table with two working females and noticed
that one of them did not touch her rice at all. I went over and took a
photo when they went to pay the bill and they smiled curiously at me
when they left.
“Atkins?”, I asked, and one of them nodded.
