Project MISER Day 2: KFC Meltz and Chick'n Fingers

kfc

I went to KFC just now with Cherie and Joanne to get dinner. KFC is having a dual promotion – the KFC Meltz and Chick’n Fingers.

kfc meltz

KFC Meltz is being heavily promoted by print and other media and is a tortilla based wrap with BBQ chicken meat which is similar in concept and taste to the KFC Chick’n Fingers.

kfc meltz promo

The KFC Meltz meal comes with:
1 Cheesy BBQ Meltz
1 Fun Fries (R)
1 Carbonated Drink (R)
and costs RM 8.39

kfc chickn fingers promo

The KFC Chick’n Fingers comes in sets of 4 and 8 and goes for RM 4.10 for the set of 4. It is described as “Try new chick’n fingers in BBQ flavor! So crunchy, yummy and easy to eat!”

kfc total

The entire meal I ordered cost RM 13.12 but it’s not counted since this post (and meal) is proudly sponsored by:

kfc cherie

Cherie! She paid for my meal after hearing about Project MISER month.

The KFC Meltz comes in a custom designed box…

kfc chickn fingers

The KFC Chick’n Fingers came in a set of four (4)…

…and tastes like chicken (seriously though, what did you think it’s going to taste like? Lamb?)

Thanks for sponsoring dinner and thanks for being there for me when I needed it Cherie.

Project MISER Day 2: Morning Coffee

morning coffee

I got black coffee without sugar (RM 1.10) this morning to wake me up. I usually get one with Alex but I came in early today so I paid myself. I work on Saturdays so it’s necessary to kick start the day. I average about 3-4 coffees a day and that comes up to RM 4.40 per day or RM 132 per month, nearly half of the allocated RM 250 for this month so I’m thinking of ways to reduce this expenditure.

Any ideas?

Project MISER Day 1: 7-11 is the spot

7 eleven

I went to the local 7-11 after work yesterday to get some groceries a.k.a dinner:

7 eleven dinner

Spritzer Natural Mineral Water (RM 3.80)
Dutch Lady Fresh Milk (RM 5.10)
Kit Kat Chunky International Recipe (RM 2.50)
Mars bar (RM 2.80)

Total: RM 14.20

7 eleven total

This is the last time I’m getting bottled water. I drink 1.5 liters at night and I must remember to bring the empty bottle and refill it at the office’s water cooler before I punch out at work. It’ll save me RM 114 this month, nearly half of the entire month’s quota. This is one of the things I realized I can save but I never do – I get bottled water everyday for drinking.

That’s the end of Day 1…I spent RM 36.70 which is definately not sustainable. I’ll try harder during Day 2.

Project MISER DAY 1: Panafen Plus Lunch

cf perth

I just got a care package from a friend in Perth, Australia who sent it via an intermediately due to her distance. It’s Panafen Plus, a preparation of 200 mg ibuprofen and 12.8 mg codeine in a 48 caplet box.

cf panafen plus

I took all of the 48 caplets for a heroic 614.4 mgs of codeine, just nice to put me into a good mood. Actually, I’m lying, I miscalculated and went OMFG after I used Calculator and found out that it was 600+ mgs of codeine instead of the 300+ mgs I calculated in my head. I’m still going to sit it out anyway. :p

cf note

The Panafen Plus came with a note from my friend in Perth who wrote it in her handwriting. I haven’t received handwritten notes in a long time.

cf panafen plus 48

This is what the Panafen Plus by GSK blister pack looks like. Inside are small easy-to-swallow caplets.

cf panafen plus eat

Down the hatch! That’s my codeine lunch.

Mmm…I can feel the warmth now…and I’m kinda nodding off. Opiate naive again….no tolerance.

Project MISER DAY 1: Breakfast

alex

Alex bought me breakfast today (my very first sponsor!) after I announced my intentions for Project MISER RM 250 (also told him I was broke, which I really am) and he got me:

alex coffee

Two coffees…

alex eggs

…and two eggs.

I’m determined to stick this out no matter what. I’m just going to spend RM 250 this month. Just watch me.

Project MISER RM 250

project miser

Project MISER (Minimum Income Self Encouraged Rations) RM 250 is a project I’ve self initiated to see if I can survive on just RM 250 alone in the month of September, 2006. The RM 250 (about USD 66) has got to cover my expenses for:

Gasoline (Petrol)
Food and drinks
Cell phone calls
Cigarettes
Nights out

And so forth, but NOT:

Rent
Other fixed miscellaneous bills like utilities.

The aim of this project is to determine whether I can survive on just minimum wage for food and gas and nights out (probably would have to ask some people to buy me lunch, that’s admissible) for this month.

…and also coz I’m fucking broke after moving and a large purchase. I even had to borrow the RM 250 from Cherie to take a photo with my cell phone! ๐Ÿ™

Things that are admissible include people buying me food (which is kinda essential to the whole idea), company reimbursements for things like toll booths and so forth.

There is no existing food stock but there’s a carton of duty free cigarettes.

That being said; let the games begin. =D

Seed fund: RM 250

Sri Shan Curry & Such review

sri shan curry and such

Sri Shan Curry & Such is an eating establishment offering “authentic rich aromatic Southern Indian cuisine” that opened its doors recently. There aren’t a lot of authentic South Indian food in Kuching so I went with *x to check out the place. She was buying lunch.

sri shan decor

Sri Shan Curry & Such is located at Jalan Ban Hock and has interesting dรฉcor at the open entrance which looks like a cross between an elephant and Bigfoot. Sri Shan Curry & Such is a large establishment that spans two shop lots and there are ample seating arrangements.

sri shan vegetarian

There are vegetarian options for the ones who practice vegetarianism…

sri shan meat

…and meat for the rest of us normal people. ๐Ÿ˜‰

sri shan chicken

This is ayam kurma (chicken cooked South Indian style) which goes for RM 5.

sri shan lamb

This is kambing paratal (lamb cooked in a sweet and spicy sauce) which goes for RM 6.

sri shan veggies

She also ordered deep fried vegetables at RM 1.50.

sri shan saffron rice

The food comes with saffron rice (RM 6) and a cracker.

sri shan dhal

We also ordered some dhal (free) to go with the saffron rice.

sri shan meal

It was a great meal, and I really liked the lamb. The total damage came up to RM 22 inclusive of drinks which *x says is overpriced compared to another authentic Indian cuisine outlet.
