KFC Zinger Double Down Burger

kfc zinger double down

It’s a burger…with meat patties for buns! In fact, there are no buns in this wonderfully crafted burger. The KFC Zinger Double Down Burger has two pieces of Zinger chicken patties to substitute the bun.

ALL MEAT. ALL MAN. It’s perfection!

eating double down burger

I’ve read about this bun-less burger on a US snack site a while ago and was very intrigued. I wanted to try it. My exact words were:

I AM EAGER TO EAT THIS! πŸ˜€

double down

It was unfortunately unavailable in Malaysia…until now!

kfc double down tasting session

I was lucky enough to be one of the first to eat this deliciously crafted β€œburger” at an exclusive tasting session for KFC Malaysia Facebook fans at KFC in Pavilion, KL on the 22nd of September. I nicked two photos from that page (the ones without the watermark). Heh.

There was a cordoned off area and I can practically feel the envy of the others as the Double Down burger was served to our tables. We had this a good 4 days ahead of the public release.

double down tasting session

The tasting session started out with some fun and games – I joined the first one, it was a slow number where I had to face-off with another volunteer. I didn’t think I did so well coz the song was very slow but KFC was kind enough to award both of us with prizes.

gangnam style

Throughout the tasting session, there were fun spirited competitions like this – here’s one of Shah doing it Gangnam style. Heh.

balloon competition

Rachel was also called (actually we volunteered her haha) on stage for a balloon blowing competition. She gave me the bright yellow balloon and I passed it to a kid as I was walking back. Made his day, by the look of his face. πŸ™‚

Anyway, back to the burger, it’s aptly tag-lined All Meat, All Man. It’s targeted towards the male demographic and I can really see the appeal of the KFC Zinger Double Down Burger. Heck, I’ve been waiting for it to come to our shores after seeing it on the website. This has gotta be the best burger bun substitute I’ve ever come across.

dd burger

Forgive my enthusiasm, I have been following the progress of this since it’s introduction in the US and I have been hoping to taste this beautiful burger. It’s targeted towards men, the amount of calories and huge portion means that the male demographic would be the primary consumer. I’m a guy, I don’t care how much calories it has, I want meat and I want it now! πŸ™‚

double down burger

The KFC Zinger Double Down Burger has two pieces of Zinger fillet (as the β€œbuns”) and sandwiched between it is a crispy chicken strip, sliced cheese, mayo and cheese sauce. It’s packed with chicken meat!

zinger double down

I loved it! It’s very satisfying to *bite* into a burger made with Zinger fillets – it’s delicious and I pronounce myself SATISFIED. Heh! I was full the entire day! It’ll be perfect for people with big appetites and those who don’t eat carbs. I was surprised at the pricing too – it’s only RM 8.40 a la carte and RM 10.50 if you want a regular drink to go with it. The combo set with wedges or fries and a large drink is just RM 12.50.

kfc double down malaysia

I really liked the idea of the KFC Zinger Double Down Burger. The tender, breaded Zinger fillets are juicy and biting into a pure chicken burger is an awesome experience you just have to try for yourself. It not only has novelty value, it’s sinfully delicious and filling!

The KFC Zinger Double Down Burger is available now! This is a limited time offer and you don’t want to miss this unique and sinfully delicious burger! Check out https://www.facebook.com/KFCMalaysia and www.kfc.com.my for more details. It’s an epic burger worthy of a trip to your nearest KFC.

    • Yeah bro, I had one last night too! πŸ™‚

The good thing about it is that I’ll get full from one, and it’s protein (mostly) instead of carbohydrates without the bun. Very filling.

There’s no banners at the KFC in Pusat Bandar Damansara too, which is the closest one to my place, but they already have the Zinger Double Down burger.

Awesome stuff! You’ll be full without the usual post-lunch coma from carbs.

      Cheers bro!

  1. YOU SANG??? AND YOU WON A PRIZE??? Good grief…and I never won anything for singing… Muahahahahaha!!!!! Not crazy about KFC…but my daughter said she had that two nights ago…in Sg Petani, not here. Dunno if they have it at our outlets in town yet or not.

    • Haha! No I didn’t sing, I *danced*.

…and quite badly too I might add. It was supposed to be a face-off between us. I didn’t do so well – the other guy was about the same, but KFC was kind enough to award both of us prizes. πŸ™‚

Well, you have a nice bass voice going on there, I still remember my atrocious rendering of Ave Maria at my sister’s wedding. Heh.

Yup, KFC has released it in Sabah and Sarawak too – it’ll be available in Sibu for sure, they started selling it in East Malaysia at the beginning of the month.

How did your daughter find it? It’s honestly good stuff – TWO pieces of chicken substituting buns. It’s worth a try – the US snack sites were abuzz with this when it came out.

      Cheers buddy! πŸ™‚

      • Hahahahaha!!! Of course I remember that! Anyone who would like to watch can head on to youtube… It is there!

Turned out that my daughter just had the zinger burger but her friend who had this liked it – said it was very nice. Looks like having some kind of chicken chop to me…just that you eat with your hands.

        • Haha! Indeed, I posted about my sister’s wedding and my atrocious singing embedded in it too. πŸ™‚

It doesn’t taste like a chicken chop at all – these are Zinger burger fillets and somehow the combination works very well, two of these stacked and having some stuff inside just tastes good. I usually have to smother my burgers with chilli sauce but not this one, it’s great by itself.

It’s one of those things that has reached cult status, Australia had a campaign where they’ll bring it back for 2 days if they reached 500,000 likes and they achieved it! πŸ™‚

I’m not surprised, I’ll be disappointed when this limited time promo goes off too, but I’m glad that I’ve tried it.

Last night was my third time, I’m planning to eat at least 5 Double Down sandwiches.

Good to hear that your daughter’s friend likes it, I personally love it!

It’s coz it’s just so sinfully decadent, using two meat patties instead of buns to construct a burger entirely out of chicken.

          Cheers buddy! πŸ˜€

    • Heh! That is one of my favorite photos too – I saw him and his friends piling up the boxes and asked him to pose for a photo.

He’s a bit of a champion, I asked him if he ate it all but he didn’t, he ate 3 of the Zinger Double Down burgers. That’s amazing, I can eat a maximum of 2 if I don’t eat anything the entire day but I doubt I can eat 3 of these. It’s really filling! πŸ™‚

Well, it’s relatively free of carbohydrates so if you’re on an Atkins or similar carb free diet, it’ll be perfect for you. πŸ˜€

I saw a lot of people who couldn’t finish it but I really loved it – have been waiting for this since it first came out and was featured on a US snack site.

I’ll love to hear about what you think of it. It’s arrival in the states two years ago caused quite a stir from both sides of the camp. I personally loved it!

      Cheers Wen Yan!

    • Yeah, the best part is when you bite down in the middle and all the crispy outer layer gives way, leaving the juicy chicken inside that dribbles down your throat.

      It’s heavenly! It’s also a monstrosity! πŸ˜€

I loved it! I just had another last night. I found out that I can eat a maximum of two of these Double Down sandwiches and that’s it.

I simply cannot eat a third, no matter how hard I try…and I can eat a lot when I want to.

Yeah, you’ve gotta try it at least once, it generated a lot of hype when it came out in the US and I have been waiting for it since.

      Cheers Charmaine! πŸ™‚

    • Yeah, it’s a monstrosity of a burger buddy! πŸ™‚

      I LOVE IT!

Two pieces of Zinger fillets with a strip of chicken inside. It’s surprisingly filling, I usually don’t get “full” from one burger, but the Double Down sandwich had me satiated with just one!

It’s awesome – it’s made completely (well, nearly) of meat, and one will definitely fill most people up – it’s packing *a lot* of calories inside.

The hype surrounding this burger when it came out two years ago in the US made me want to try it. I’ve never seen anything like this before.

It is indeed awesome, for a lack of a better description.

A pure meat burger…it’s amazing! I was genuinely eager to taste it when it came to Malaysia, and have been eating it since. Last night was my third time. Haha!

      Cheers buddy!

I have been following the progress of it since two years ago but have given up hope that it’ll ever come to our shores…but in the end my 2 year wait is over! πŸ˜€

I was quite surprised when they had the Facebook fans tasting event and I was so eager to eat this epic burger that set the US snack sites abuzz two years ago.

I can actually eat two of these babies. I can’t eat a third though, I tried, but I just couldn’t – two of KFC Zinger Double Down burger is my limit.

It’s targeted towards men here, for a good reason. The calories it’s packing will fill you up like nothing else. I bet it’ll be a hit with people who listens to Jimi Hendrix – I remember that costume you wore back in 2009. πŸ˜‰

It’s awesome stuff! Cheers bro! πŸ˜€

Yeah, it’s a Zinger chicken fillet, followed by a piece of chicken strip (plus mayo and cheese) completed with another Zinger fillet.

I find it beautiful too – I love it, it’s decadent AND it’s delicious!

      Now that’s a wonderful combo.

      Cheers mate! πŸ™‚

I like the saltiness, problem is you have to drink a lot of water afterwards, but it’s worth it. πŸ™‚

I’ve been waiting for this baby since I heard it announced in the US two years ago.

      Awesome stuff!

It sure contains a lot of calories, that’s the best part about it – it makes me full from just one of these Double Down sandwiches.

      It’s awesome stuff.

Hey, fancy hearing from you again. Yup, I remember, I only know 3 people called Hope, it’s not exactly a name that you’ll easily forget.

I also remember the first time I met you – Senso at Hilton, Kuching! πŸ™‚

I wonder if that place is still open.

Haha! That was when I was 24, I could easily eat 3-4 regular sized meals per meal back then when I…feel like it. πŸ˜‰

I can’t eat three of this though, 2 of the KFC Zinger Double Down is the limit for me – my stomach has shrunk, it has been close to 8 years after all. The wonders of my metabolism back then.

How’s Daphne doing nowadays? I got her wedding invite when I was backpacking Europe in 2011, so I couldn’t come back in time. 😑

I’ve been waiting for this baby to show up for two years. It’s a good thing they brought it to our shores, I was contemplating making it myself with two Zinger fillets when I first saw the US launch to see what the fuss is all about.

Yeah, that would be nice, but it’ll limit the market somewhat…and besides, like Daniel commented – chicken, chicken and more chicken has a nice ring to it.

It’s delicious, I love the concept of a burger made ENTIRELY out of meat – it just appeals to the inner hedonist in me – it’s decadent and it’s tasty!

Good to hear I wasn’t the only one hoping this would come to Malaysia.

Yup, it’s an awesome burger! Who would have thought to make a burger entirely out of meat?

I was intrigued from the start when they rolled this out in the US. I wanted to eat it, but it didn’t come to Malaysia until two years later.

…now waiting for two years sure builds up an appetite – I’ve eaten it 3 times now. Heh! πŸ™‚

Yup, you should try it at least once, it’s awesome and it’s limited time only so the promotion is going to end sometime (not sure when though).

It’s very filling, I love it. Heh! When I got the invite I actually said:

I AM EAGER TO EAT THIS!!!

  5. HB, that zingers did’nt go so well in San Francisco and many KFC does not carry it. People perfer with buns or breads with it. Too bad for I like it. In Hawaii people eat Mexican taco instead of taco shell or tortilla but with rice. It started in Okinawa now popular in Hawaii.

    • Heh! Well, it’s a limited edition item anyway, even over here. πŸ™‚

It’s certainly different and I like novelty value, especially if it’s backed up with tastiness…and enough calories to keep me going for the day.

Interesting, I haven’t been there before, but would love to go someday.

  6. It sure is a different variety to the Zinger Burger that I’m used to. And is that melted cheese I see in between the chicken pieces?

Just curious, how many calories are there in the Double Down Burger?

    Reply
    • Yeah, actually the Zinger burger is what I usually order when I’m eating at KFC. I also eat the fried chicken but usually it’s the Zinger coz I like how the meat fillets taste – it’s like thigh meat – soft, tender, and juicy coated with a crunchy outlet layer.

Yup, they have mayo and cheese sauce inside.

Hmm…that’s a good question. I was waiting at KFC last night while waiting for my Double Down sandwiches to be prepared and I looked at the nutritional chart beside the cashier – I tried using the Zinger burger as a base to calculate (e.g. multiply by two) but that wouldn’t be accurate since the Zinger Double Down doesn’t have buns and has a chicken strip inside.

I honestly wouldn’t know, it should be quite high but not excessively so. I Googled it and it appears as 460 to 540 calories but those are US figures and they have different ingredients and varieties.

That’s quite standard, just slightly higher than a regular Zinger burger.

I love it though, it’s very popular in Canada, where one of the outlets actually sold out by 2 pm. I read about the Australian version too, it was so popular that they had a campaign to bring it back if they got 500k likes on their Facebook. They did and it was brought back for two days.

This KFC Double Down burger is reaching cult status, with people going to great lengths to eat it. I’m not surprised, I’m one of them too. πŸ˜€

It’s limited edition over here too, so last night was the third time I’ve eaten it. I’ll probably eat it tomorrow or the day after too – never know when they’re going to end the promotion so I figure I’ll eat as much as I can before they do.

I guess part of the appeal is the novelty of an all meat burger, but it’s backed up by being a really delicious burger as well! I personally love it to bits! πŸ™‚

      Cheers Ciana!

  7. The canadian version of zinger double down is pretty meh. Don’t feel bad about not having tried the North American version. I’m sure the one you had is much better!

    Reply
    • Yeah, I reckon it’s slightly different – since the Malaysian version uses Zinger meat patties and I love the Zinger burger myself.

This is like double the enjoyment. I guess that’s why they called it Double Down.

I think it’s a great idea too – making a burger entirely out of meat. It’s so obvious in hindsight but I’m surprised that no one has thought of it earlier (to the best of my knowledge).

The Zinger Double Down burgers we have over here is good but I’ll love to try the US version as well to see how it fares.

I’m going to have this again, it’s perfect for those who’re on Atkins or similar no-carb diets (not that I’m on a diet – I eat a lot and I eat what I want heh). This burger is perfect for me – sinfully decadent and delicious!

      Cheers mate! πŸ™‚

  8. Ohhh I want to try the Malaysian version with extra chicken in the middle! The US version is with bacon in the middle and it’s okay. I love Bacon and all, but there was no Zing to it – unlike the Malaysian one I am sure with the Zinger Patties!!!!

    Reply
    • Yeah, it has a nice ring to it – chicken, chicken and more chicken. Heh!

I’m sure the bacon would be awesome too, the US version has a grilled variant right?

Hey, you’re right – it’s the Zinger patties that makes the Double Down over here so good – if they’re not using the same fillets in the US, it won’t have the same wonderful crunchy, crispy texture with all the moisture and juices sealed in. πŸ˜€

Hey, you should come back home sometime! It’ll be good to catch up!

It’s Zinger patties too and that’s where it excels coz it has the signature Zinger crunchiness and sealed in juices. Decadent. πŸ˜€

    • Haha! Yeah, when I first saw the ads for it in the US, I was amazed too!

I was even more impressed when the first consumer reviews came out on several US snack sites.

Yup, if you don’t finish the bun in your burgers, this would be perfect for you! No (well, virtually none for all intents and purposes) carbs too, since the bun is negated from the equation.

The KFC Zinger Double Down is sure creating a lot of hype!

It’s a lot like the other countries that had the Double Down sandwich, the buzz is awesome and the burger lives up to all the buzz so it’s all good.

It’s just as sinfully decadent and delicious as it looks.

Yeah, just go to the nearest KFC for your fix. It’s a limited time offer so I’m eating a lot of this too – can’t eat it every day of course, but I’ve eaten it 4 times already. Haha!
