Tequila lollipop with real worm review

tequila lollipop wrap

I received a Saran wrapped package from the US with a tequila lollipop containing a real worm inside and a note which says “If he’s not in Jail, pass to 6 Seal at 016 8883166”. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Eddie [cooknengr.com]. :p

tequila lollipop single

The tequila flavored lollipop with a real worm comes courtesy of Eddie who came back from the US a while ago before heading back for work again. The lollipop is called HotLix and it’s called “Tequila Flavor with Worm” and lists Malitol syrup, Insect Larva, natural and artificial flavoring as the ingredients.

tequila lollipop worm

This is a closer look at the tequila flavored lollipop containing a genuine tequila worm inside. The tequila worm is listed as “insect larvae” and it’s technically a caterpillar that lives on the leaves on the mescal plant and it’s usually called an “agave worm”. There is no worm in tequila of course, but this marketing perpetuated myth has produced some interesting products. πŸ™‚

tequila lollipop open

The tequila flavored lollypop with worm tastes great – but the syrupy lollypop kept on sticking to my tongue piercing stud. It’s a very sticky lollypop which smoothes out towards the end and the are hints of tequila flavor (agave) shines through after the initial sugary taste. The objective is to suck on it until the tequila worm comes out. The tequila worm (technically insect larvae) tastes great!

tequila lollipop worm lick

Oh, hello!

Mmm…tastes like chicken. πŸ™‚

Scratch that…it actually tastes a little crunchy and has a deep fried texture to it; so I would say it tastes like deep fried chicken skin. πŸ˜‰

Nestle Kit Kat Strawberry Limited Edition (Japan)

kit kat strawberry japan

Nestle came out with a limited edition strawberry flavored Kit Kat in Japan. fish fish [blogspot.com] kindly brought it back for me but I forgot to take it the first time and only managed to get it when I went out for dinner with her a couple of days ago. The Japanese Kit Kat box is very well designed with images of strawberries and a photo of the actual Kit Kat Strawberry bar printed in front.

kit kat strawberry japan box

Nestle Kit Kat Strawberry Limited Edition is packaged in the specially designed cardboard box pioneered by Japan that has evolved into the standard limited edition Kit Kat packaging now. The distinctive packaging is filled with kanji and hiragana characters and has a side perforation which opens up to reveal the individually wrapped twin bars that has become the benchmark for limited edition Kit Kats around the world.

kit kat strawberry japan bars

The Japanese Nestle Kit Kat Strawberry Limited Edition cardboard box contains 2 x 2 wafer bars in a nicely designed wrapper which features a pink color scheme and strawberry outlines in bright aluminum foil interspaced throughout the wrapper. The back of the individually wrapped twin bars is inscribed with “Have a break, have a KitKit” and it’s really nicely designed compared to Malaysian efforts.

kit kat strawberry japan open

Nestle Kit Kat Strawberry Limited Edition (Japan) opens up to reveal the familiar Kit Kat layout with a distinctive strawberry scent wafting out as soon as the foil is perforated. It’s amazing…they got the strawberry fragrance spot on, and I immediately felt like eating it! The bars are nicely pressed too, with speckles of bright red containing bits of strawberry pieces in a pink strawberry flavored coating.

kit kat strawberry japan bite

Nestle Japan Kit Kat Strawberry Limited Edition tastes great! The taste test does not disappoint – it seems that the wafers in the Japanese edition of Kit Kat is much better than the ones we get over here…it has an almost melt-in-the-mouth texture and the middle of the wafers is coated with strawberry paste too, making this one extremely strawberry-licious Kit Kat! πŸ™‚

Nestle Kit Kat Limited Edition X1 Cappuccino Flavor

kitkat limited edition cappuccino jusco

Nestle Kit Kat Cappuccino Flavour Limited Edition X1 is the first one in the new line of Malaysian Kit Kat limited edition series. I have only seen the other one (Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavor Limited Edition 02) on the shelves and it seems that Nestle Kit Kat Cappuccino Flavor Limited Edition X1 is a Jusco (the hypermarket) exclusive.

kitkat limited edition cappuccino stand

I was walking around in Jusco when I saw this rack of Nestle Kit Kat Cappuccino Flavor Limited Edition X1 on a promotional stand. The normal box (2 x 2 finger wafer) retails for RM 2.29 and the new larger format box goes for RM 4.29. This batch of Malaysian Limited Edition KitKat runs seems to have only two flavors in the lineup.

kitkat limited edition cappuccino size

The packaging looks impeccable – the new line of limited edition Kit Kat cardboard boxes are done well, much like its Japanese counterpart. It is indeed a leap from the simple design of the first Malaysian foray into the limited edition Kit Kat market. The normal 2 x 17 g box and the larger 4 x 17g box have similar side perforations to open up the box.

kitkat limited edition cappuccino box

Nestle Kit Kat Cappuccino Flavor Limited Edition X1 has a more elaborate design compared to the minimalist Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavor Limited Edition 02 – there are intricate swirls and symmetrical patterns adorning the cardboard box with a cup of frothy cappuccino in the form of a raised imprint as the centerpiece.

kitkat limited edition cappuccino bars

Nestle Kit Kat Cappuccino Flavor comes in individually wrapped 2 x 2 wafer packs with KitKat logo and the words “Cappuccino Flavor” on the right extreme tapering into a pure brown color palate to the left, much like the other limited edition KitKat in this series.

kitkat limited edition cappuccino open

Nestle Kit Kat Limited Edition X1 Cappuccino Flavor opens up to reveal dark brown twin Kit Kat wafers. The chocolate coating is slightly darker than the standard Kit Kat bars.

kitkat limited edition cappuccino bite

The Kit Kat Cappuccino Flavor tastes like coffee flavored Kit Kat bars. The official description is printed as “Wafer fingers in milk chocolate – Cappuccino Flavor“. It tasted alright, but it’s too plain compared to the Cheesecake Flavored Kit Kat.

kitkat limited edition cappuccino end

Nestle Kit Kat Limited Edition X1 Cappuccino Flavor can be found at Jusco hypermarkets on cardboard stands printed with “It’s out there – ENJOY The rarest of breaks“.

Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavor Limited Edition 02

kitkat limited edition cheesecake shelf

Nestle KitKat Lemon Cheesecake Flavour Limited Edition 02 is the latest promotion of the Kit Kat line of chocolate wafers. I have no idea where Limited Edition 01 is – I only saw Limited Edition 02 in the Kuching airport before I took a flight to KL. Perhaps the numbering is just arbitrary. *shrugs*

kitkat limited edition cheesecake size

The Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavor Limited Edition 02 comes in two sizes – the standard 2 x 2 finger format we’re all familiar with (RM 4.50) and a larger 4 x 2 finger format that I’ve never seen Kit Kat being packaged in, which was what caught my eye in the first place.

kitkat limited edition cheesecake design

The packaging looks great – the Kit Kat cardboard box is light yellow and has a lemon slice imprinted on one side of the box and random see-through holes to allow the individually wrapped yellow wafer fingers inside to be visible through the plastic window. There is also a perforation on the right which opens up like a flip-tip cigarette box.

kitkat limited edition cheesecake box

This Nestle Kit Kat Limited Edition is only available in Malaysia. It marks the first time Malaysia has its own individually wrapped and boxed Kit Kat Limited Edition runs, which are very popular in Japan. Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavour Limited Edition 02 is officially dubbed “Wafer fingers in Lemon Cheesecake Flavored Confectionary“.

kitkat limited edition cheesecake bars

Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavour Limited Edition 02 comes in individually wrapped 2 x 2 wafer packs with words on one side tapering into a pure yellow color scheme. The design looks good and it marks a nice debut for Malaysian Limited Edition Kit Kat confectionary.

kitkat limited edition cheesecake open

Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavour opens up to reveal a whitish yellow Kit Kat wafer in the dual wafer format. The consistent color scheme is great!

kitkat limited edition cheesecake bite

Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavor tastes like cheesecake on the inside with the lemon flavor coming from the coating. It really tastes like cheesecake! I was amazed at the taste and texture, which resembles a cheesecake (a good one to boot) so closely. The wonders of modern artificial food flavoring! πŸ˜‰

kitkat limited edition cheesecake end

Nestle Kit Kat Lemon Cheesecake Flavor Limited Edition 02 tastes great! Get it while you can…it is limited edition after all.

P/S – I wrote this before I found the Nestle Kit Kat Limited Edition 01 in KL. The review of the other limited edition Kit Kat in the series is coming up in the next post.

DIY Prawn and Peanut crackers

pp crackers packet

Prawn and Peanut crackers is a local snack that is a variant of the home made Malay keropok (crackers). It isn’t actually made with prawns (shrimp) but ikan bilis (a small indigenous fish fry that has been dried and salted). It’s just what we call these crackers (YMMV). The crackers are about the size of a 3 inch CD. pp crackers diy

The crackers are made by DIY (a small Kuching cottage industry) and retails for RM 1.30 at most coffee shops. One packet of the crackers contains about six pieces, which makes the price per cracker at slightly above 20 cents (MYR). The cracker usually has one intact fish fry and several peanuts embedded into the cracker itself.

pp crackers

This is what the crackers look like up close – the ikan bilis and peanuts is placed on the chilli infused batter base before the deep frying treatment, producing this effect. It’s a favorite snack in our office. The crackers taste like spicy keropok before the salty ikan bilis tang starts to shine through as the cracker is munched, with the experience ending on a nice aromatic roasted peanuts note.

It contains very basic ingredients, but it’s executed so well that the whole is better than the sum of its parts. It’s also home made, so that means no preservatives. πŸ™‚

Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% Cacao vs. LINDT Chocolat Cree a Berne

swiss faceoff choc shop

This is a face off between two premium Swiss dark chocolate (Chocolat Swiss Noir) – Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% Cacao vs. LINDT Chocolat Cree a Berne. I wanted it to be a straight Swiss dark chocolate comparison so…

cote dor

…the Cote d’Or Belgian extra high quality dark chocolate is out of this post’s scope

cote dor content

(and also coz I noticed that the Cote d’Or only contains 56% cocoa solids – a very low figure compared to the two Swiss brands I’m evaluating)

swiss delice supreme

The Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% Cacao is an extra dark bittersweet chocolate with a high cocoa solid content – the highest amongst the two, weighing in at 78% cacao.

swiss delice supreme noir

It retails for RM 9.90 each and comes in a thin cardboard package containing just 100 grams of chocolate. Weight for weight, it’s more expensive than the Cote d’Or brand (which I wouldn’t be mentioning except it was brought up :p) with its 2 x 200 g (400 g) packaging priced at RM 27.90.

swiss delice supreme back

The back of the package lists the contents of the chocolate and also has text that goes “Swiss Delice invites connoisseurs from all over the world to take part in a culinary journey throughout Switzerland. The delightful specialties are carefully created using traditional recipes and only the finest ingredients. Take a real taste of Switzerland home with you.”

swiss delice supreme foil

The packaging of Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% is impeccable – the slim cardboard packaging has a side that parts to reveal a thin block of dark chocolate wrapped in foil (which is the best wrapping for our climate – unlike the paper wrappings in Australia, our heat does not allow anything except foil for long term shelf life).

swiss delice supreme slices

The Swiss Delice Supreme Noir 78% cacao breaks apart easily at the perforations and produces neat imprinted dark chocolate in bite sized pieces. It’s about the size of the ubiquitous After 8 thin dark chocolate dinner mints for a better mind size comparison.

swiss delice supreme bite

I ate (nearly) the entire block of Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% (which isn’t much considering it’s only 100 g – the size of a large Mars bar) while waiting for my flight (which was delayed). There was someone sitting beside me, traveling alone too (Swinburne student – Hello Alice!), and I offered her a slice, which she accepted. She pronounced it good, as do I.

Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% Cacao is smooth high cocoa solid content chocolate – it has a melt in your mouth quality and its bittersweet nature is great. This is real dark chocolate – the product does not disappoint.

swiss faceoff lindt

LINDT Chocolat Cree A Berne is also another Swiss dark chocolate product which caught my eye due to its retro packaging. It looks like a product from the 1940’s – the candy wrapping is minimalist and heavily text oriented. It certainly has novelty value.

lindt chocolat

I sampled the LINDT Chocolat Cree A Berne the next day (and an important note here is that I wasn’t fully in withdrawal hell as I planned to stop my opiate consumption on Friday night and I was still VERY MUCH under the influence of Oxycontin bliss during the time of this review) at home.

lindt chocolat back

LINDT Chocolat Cree A Berne also comes in a slim 100 g package. Unfortunately, it weighs in at a (relatively) dismal 49% cocoa solids content. LINDT Chocolat Cree A Berne retails at RM 8.90 (all chocolates is this review is from the Choc Stop franchise at the airport).

lindt chocolat foil

The LINDT Chocolat Cree A Berne chocolate bar is also wrapped in foil and comes in smaller perforated chunks. I personally prefer an After 8 sized slice, much like the format of the previously featured Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% Cacao instead of this smaller chunk.

lindt chocolat pieces

The chocolate perforates nicely to reveal chocolate chunks with the Lindt signature on each of the chunks. I’m still harping about the size of the chunk – IMHO, I feel that premium chocolate should come in the larger format instead of this Cadbury/Hershey’s (tick according to your country) style chunk which is associated with mass produced chocolate.

lindt chocolat bite

The LINDT Chocolat Cree A Berne breaks nicely and takes well to biting smaller chunks off it. It tastes great, with a bittersweet symphony that indulges the senses. However, I still prefer the Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% Cacao as it has that elusive mouth-feel from the higher cacao content.

swiss faceoff noir best

Swiss Delice Supreme Noir Authentique 78% Cacao is the better of the two. It’s definitely a must try, with its high cocoa solid content – which is what chocolate is all about. πŸ™‚

Hershey's Symphony 1/2 Pound Bar Creamy Milk Chocolate

hersheys symphony chocshop

Hershey’s Symphony is a milk chocolate candy bar made by the largest chocolate manufacturer in the United States. I picked it up at ChocShop at the airport during my flight back earlier this week.

hersheys symphony chocolate bar

Hershey’s Symphony retails for RM 14.90 and is made by Hershey Foods Corporation in the US. The bar looks rather retro with its linear lines and beige background superimposed with the stylized text “Symphony” in classic red.

hersheys symphony pound

The chocolate bar weighs 1/2 a pound, a fact that is proudly declared on the lower left side of the wrapping. This contributes much to the retro look as does the scheme – it’s meant to look like sheet music (as in music sheets, not shitty music).

hersheys symphony open

The 1/2 pound milk chocolate bar opens up to reveal blocks of chocolate with the Hershey’s logo on it. I had forgotten about it ever since I left it on the office table when I came back to Kuching until just now. I had it for lunch.

hersheys symphony blocks

Hershey’s Symphony tastes like mid-range milk chocolate – with potential, but never quite achieving greatness. It was a good lunch nonetheless.

Disney Cookies – Winnie the Pooh, Mickey & Minnie, Mickey

disney cookies flyer

These are “Premium Quality” Homemade Disney Cookies featuring several iconic Disney characters. There is an enterprising company here that sends out product promotion flyers to companies and delivers FOC, saving the time of employees who doesn’t have time to shop. I’m not sure if they have a license to use the Disney characters though…

disney cookies range

The Disney Cookies retails for RM 14.90 each and has three nicely designed tins containing three different cookie types. There is Winnie the Pooh Butter Cookies, Mickey & Minnie Chocolate Chip Cookies and Mickey Chocolate Cookies which comes in 300 gm cans. They offer free delivery to your office, so I got all three for the office to share.

disney cookies winnie the pooh

Winnie the Pooh Butter Cookies comes in a green tin that has an image of Disney’s logo and the Winnie the Pooh character. There is accompanying text which goes somewhere along the lines of “Sing Ho! For the life of a bear! Sing Ho! For the life of a Pooh!”

disney cookies butter

The can contains 4 individually wrapped packets of cookies in different colored “Disney” text. Winnie the Pooh Butter Cookies comes in a blue text foil package and contains butter cookies in the shape of Mickey’s likeness. It tasted alright, but I’m not a big fan of butter cookies in general, due to over consumption of the Dutch version when I was young.

disney cookies mickey minnie

Mickey & Minnie Chocolate Chip Cookies comes in a pink can with the flagship characters of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as a couple. The text goes “Isn’t it amazing, how you look at me, and you say nothing at all. But I can understand every word being spoken through your eyes.” Hmm…

disney cookies chocolate chip

Mickey & Minnie Chocolate Chip Cookies comes in orange Disney text foil and contain regular chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate chip cookies are basically butter cookies with chocolate chips embedded into the cookies. It’s a little crumbly and it tastes rather like the lower price range commercial chocolate chip cookies. It didn’t taste “homemade” to me at all.

disney cookies mickey

Mickey Chocolate Cookies comes in a yellow can that has the Mickey Mouse character on it and two words I haven’t heard in a long time – Roller Skate. The text goes “The highest truth comes to light as I roller skate down the highway and watch pickles fall out of a refrigerated truck.” I guess no one told Mickey that roller skating has gone out of vogue but kudos to him for sending a message to the kids that roller skating down highways is cool. πŸ˜‰

disney cookies chocolate

Mickey Chocolate Cookies comes in the classic brown color characteristic of chocolate cookies. The cookies are also molded into the likeness of the Mickey Mouse character. Mickey Chocolate Cookies tastes the best from the batch of cookies. However, the cookies are not “premium quality” by any standard and the packaging doesn’t seem to suggest that it’s home made.

It went down well in the office though….

Hershey's Swoops – Irresistible slices of chocolate candy!

hersheys swoops aisles

Hershey’s Swoops is a relatively new product which is the epitome of chocolate research and psychological studies. Okay, maybe it’s not that groundbreaking, but I still think it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread! The official description goes “Hershey’s Swoops are curvy, solid chocolate slices delivering an indulgent, mouth-melting experience”.

hersheys swoops

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Swoops retails for RM 12.90 and comes in cardboard canisters containing three snack-pack cups, each containing six Swoops slices for a total of 18 slices of chocolate. Slices of chocolate. You heard me right. Hershey’s Swoops is chocolate slices shaped and molded in the vein of potato chips (crisps). OMG!

hersheys swoops box

The back of Hershey’s Swoops has a photo of the delicious slices of chocolate in actual size. The text goes “Hershey’s Swoops are the essence of your favorite chocolate candy. The unique shape envelops your mouth in chocolate bliss. Take a moment to experience Swoops…anytime, anywhere”.

hersheys swoops cups

The cardboard box of Hershey’s Swoops opens up to reveal three individually sealed cups containing 6 slices (slices!) of chocolate. I like the snack-packs design although I feel it’s redundant since you can’t just eat one!!!11oneone (as Lay’s would put it…damn the person who invented potato chips / crisps).

hersheys swoops cup open

This is what the Hershey’s Swoops looks like. It looks like potato chip (crisps) shaped chocolate…and it’s the same size as an average tongue so putting the chocolate slice in your mouth and letting it melt covers the entire mouth with chocolate.

hersheys swoops slice

It’s an experience to behold…if you haven’t had Hershey’s Swoops yet, you haven’t experienced the amazing difference the shape can do to the taste and sheer texture. It’s like methamphetamine…you think insufflating (snorting) it is great, but wait till you smoke it! You think smoking meth is great, but wait till you bang (IV injection) it!

hersheys swoops slices

Hershey’s Swoops is the IV method of eating chocolate in the analogy above. You put the tongue shaped chocolate slices into you mouth, close it, taste the rich, milky chocolate enveloping your entire senses and…chocolate rush! OMG!

Hershey’s Swoops is really an experience to behold…it’s amazing that a commercial chocolate manufacturer can come out with chocolate that would revolutionize the chocolate industry. The chocolate slices produces a totally different experience to eating chocolate.

Disclaimer: sixthseal.com does not condone the use of Hershey’s Swoops. It should be noted that eating Hershey’s Swoops can be addictive to people with a history of drug and alcohol dependency. Please do not share Hershey’s Swoops…it would be consumed faster than you can imagine. πŸ˜‰
