Julie’s x LINE Limited Edition Cookies Media Launch

julies girls

You remember the Julie’s biscuits that we all grew up with? I fondly remember eating lots of these when I was a kid, it was one of the staples of growing up. I absolutely *loved* their Cheese Sandwich back then, I couldn’t have enough when it came out. It was revolutionary at the time. Absolutely fabulous!

This is what it looked like! This is the box with 18 convenient individually wrapped packs which wasn’t available back in the early 90’s, but I would have happily eaten the entire box when I was a still growing boy! 🙂 There was a media launch event for the unveiling of a new product dubbed Julie’s x LINE on the 4th of July and true to the name, it’s a collaboration between Julie’s and LINE (the app).

I was quite surprised coz this isn’t a usual collaboration – there’s not much in common between a confectionery manufacturer and the developer of a communications app for smartphones – at least that’s what I thought at first.

juliesxline mascot

It turns out that the popular characters from LINE – Brown and Cony – is a collaboration between Julie’s and LINE for this season’s Oat 25 cookies range.

cony brown cookies

The first collaboration came out with Brown, the popular character from LINE and this second launch is to add one new character – Cony!

Interestingly, we received instructions to either dress in brown or pink. I didn’t quite get it at first until I realized that they were the colors of the popular LINE characters!

juliesxline me

Brown is the color of the the LINE character Brown (the bear) and Cony the rabbit/bunny is the pink bit! I have a pink shirt, which I don’t wear a lot (but I hear looks good on me), so I thought I’ll go with that to the launch of Julie’s x LINE.

The Julie’s x LINE OAT 25 Cookies are limited edition. It’s available in these cute little metal boxes which has Julie’s oat biscuits inside and either Brown or Cony from LINE on the cover.

The Cony and Brown variations aren’t purely superficial though – the chocolate and strawberry flavors in Julie’s x LINE Limited Edition cookies are specifically chosen to match Brown’s peculiar characteristics and Cony’s sweet attributes. On top of that, Brown is known for his love for chocolate cookies while Cony looks adorable in pink.

I thought it was a stroke of pure genius, at least when the Julie’s mascot came out with both LINE’s popular Cony and Brown! You can get the limited edition Julie’s x LINE Oat 25 Cookies in any AEON, The Store, selected Popular outlets and many more hyper/supermarkets nationwide!

There’s also a Snap, Tag & Win photo contest going on with the hashtag #JuliesLINEcookies, so if you’re a fan of both LINE’s cute characters and Julie’s biscuits, head on over to the Julie’s Facebook page for more information about this Facebook and Instagram contest! 🙂

FedEx Cookies from Rene in Singapore

rene fedex

I got a call from the office telling me that a package has arrived for me from Singapore from Rene. I went to the office to pick it up before going to the airport coz it contained cookies and I wanted to eat them. 😉

rene gift

It just took a couple of days for the package to be sent from Singapore to Kuching, Malaysia. It was declared “non-perishable” and a “personal gift” so perhaps that’s why it cleared customs so rapidly.

rene open

I couldn’t wait until I got to Sibu to sample the cookies to I called Rene to thank her for the package and opened it up. There are five (5) containers of her home made chocolate chip cookies in various wonderfully decorated tins.

rene england

I took one of the tins and opened it up…

Disney Cookies – Winnie the Pooh, Mickey & Minnie, Mickey

disney cookies flyer

These are “Premium Quality” Homemade Disney Cookies featuring several iconic Disney characters. There is an enterprising company here that sends out product promotion flyers to companies and delivers FOC, saving the time of employees who doesn’t have time to shop. I’m not sure if they have a license to use the Disney characters though…

disney cookies range

The Disney Cookies retails for RM 14.90 each and has three nicely designed tins containing three different cookie types. There is Winnie the Pooh Butter Cookies, Mickey & Minnie Chocolate Chip Cookies and Mickey Chocolate Cookies which comes in 300 gm cans. They offer free delivery to your office, so I got all three for the office to share.

disney cookies winnie the pooh

Winnie the Pooh Butter Cookies comes in a green tin that has an image of Disney’s logo and the Winnie the Pooh character. There is accompanying text which goes somewhere along the lines of “Sing Ho! For the life of a bear! Sing Ho! For the life of a Pooh!”

disney cookies butter

The can contains 4 individually wrapped packets of cookies in different colored “Disney” text. Winnie the Pooh Butter Cookies comes in a blue text foil package and contains butter cookies in the shape of Mickey’s likeness. It tasted alright, but I’m not a big fan of butter cookies in general, due to over consumption of the Dutch version when I was young.

disney cookies mickey minnie

Mickey & Minnie Chocolate Chip Cookies comes in a pink can with the flagship characters of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as a couple. The text goes “Isn’t it amazing, how you look at me, and you say nothing at all. But I can understand every word being spoken through your eyes.” Hmm…

disney cookies chocolate chip

Mickey & Minnie Chocolate Chip Cookies comes in orange Disney text foil and contain regular chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate chip cookies are basically butter cookies with chocolate chips embedded into the cookies. It’s a little crumbly and it tastes rather like the lower price range commercial chocolate chip cookies. It didn’t taste “homemade” to me at all.

disney cookies mickey

Mickey Chocolate Cookies comes in a yellow can that has the Mickey Mouse character on it and two words I haven’t heard in a long time – Roller Skate. The text goes “The highest truth comes to light as I roller skate down the highway and watch pickles fall out of a refrigerated truck.” I guess no one told Mickey that roller skating has gone out of vogue but kudos to him for sending a message to the kids that roller skating down highways is cool. 😉

disney cookies chocolate

Mickey Chocolate Cookies comes in the classic brown color characteristic of chocolate cookies. The cookies are also molded into the likeness of the Mickey Mouse character. Mickey Chocolate Cookies tastes the best from the batch of cookies. However, the cookies are not “premium quality” by any standard and the packaging doesn’t seem to suggest that it’s home made.

It went down well in the office though….

Afgan chocolate cookies @ bing!

afgan chocolate cookies jar

The Afgan chocolate cookies at bing! is one of the best chocolate
cookies I’ve had in Malaysia. It retails for RM 3.50 each and it kicks
the mass produced Famous Amos chocolate cookies range’s collective
asses.

afgan chocolate cookies

The Afgan chocolate cookies are topped with chocolate coated and there’s a nut placed on every single cookie.

afgan chocolate cookie

It tastes the way real cookies should taste like – rich, satisfying, and crumbly. 🙂

Cookies and The Mirror Project

I saw this really nice chocolate biscuits at a grocery store today.

Dairy Milk Cookies on a local newspaper

Shortbread cookies with chocolate chips and covered with chocolate.
Usually the local cocoa tastes slightly acidic so I’m not really a big fan
of locally made chocolates, but these ones taste pretty good. Anyway, I’ve
submitted another picture to my favorite pet project. You can view it
here
[mirrorproject.com]. This is a photo of a photo. You can’t really see
my reflection clearly because I had to compress the picture down to 30k
in order to submit it. The photo is one from my college days at Inti.
I’m the second seated person from the right. I was the Vice President
of Intima, the college student government body. I remember that I was
out clubbing at the notorious Impiana Disco (now closed) the night
before the photo shoot. I had consumed some recreational substances which I
will not name in this public blog and had gotten home pretty late –
at around 8 am. I tried to take a one hour nap before the 10 am photo
shoot, but it’s almost impossible to go to sleep when the aforementioned
recreational substances has been partaken the night before. I was
in that uncomfortable limbo between sleep and wakefulness when I woke up
with a start and realized it was already 10:15 am! I rushed out with last
night’s clothes still on and pulled on my Intima jersey in the office,
just in time for the photo shoot. Heady days indeed. I wonder where the
rest of the committee are now? I’ve had some wonderful times in Inti
College, Kuching during ’98/’99.
