Lunch with Yvonne Foong
I just came back from lunch at Canton-i, Midvalley with Yvonne. She was on The Breakfast Show on ntv7 yesterday morning and texted me to meet up. Eddie passed her some stuff to bring back when she went to the US for her operation.
Grey Goose pear flavored vodka. Corazon de Agave 100% Agave tequila. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel. Thanks Eddie, you da man! Enjoy the married life, bro.
Yvonne Foong has neurofibromatosis and she’s raising funds for her radiotherapy. You can donate at her site or purchase her Heart4Hope t-shirts. It’s only RM 20 and it’s for a great cause – help a fellow blogger out, eh?
Merry Christmas from sixthseal.com
I just got my Christmas gift from my girlfriend…
…it’s an Armani Exchange t-shirt.
Real one okay, not from Petaling Street. RM 169.
Thank you dear. π
Merry Christmas to everyone!
The first ‘Noel the angels did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
There’s no such thing as a 9 to 5 in KL
Straight from the horse’s mouth – Pinky Tham Waiping, born and bred in KL. I just came back from work, have been working OT a lot lately. It’s okay with me though coz I am one of the rare (lucky?) people who like their jobs. I’m a copywriter by trade so I have to watch out for grammar and typos – but not on my blog…on my blog, I’m free to make as many mistakes as I like! It’s an outlet for me! π
Anyway, I saw the notice above in the condo lift just now. Some tenant who needs to attend anger management classes ripped it off, but it was stuck back by security. Power outage from 2 pm till 6 pm. Doesn’t affect me, I usually get home rather late. This is a crappy post coz I have to work on a pitch later so let us segue into something else.
I went to PC Fair (by proxy) to get a 640 GB USB 2.0 drive and a pair of Sony MDR headphones. I couldn’t actually go coz I had to go to an event so one of my coworkers got the stuff for me. Damage to the wallet: RM 418.
I shall post again tomorrow – in the meantime, I’m going to pimp an event for a friend – Comic Fiesta. It’s going on this weekend at Sunway Convention Center. I will not be going since I’m going to Singapore for the weekend, unfortunately. Click on the link to read more about it if you’re into anime, manga, cosplay or just games in general.
Pat, you owe me lunch. π
Filler post
I am going to start work on Monday so I guess the days of drinking cheap wine while enjoying a good book at night is over. π
I’ve just finished Stephen King’s latest (Duma Key) and it really is one of his best in many, many years. It’s technically not his latest, but the last one I read was Lisey’s Story. I saw another hardcover out at MPH – a short story compilation.
This is obviously a filler post. Wait, I’m getting a proper one up. :p
Hello world!
Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!
For God and Country!
I have seen a batch of National Service trainees walking around town lately and noticed a remarkable resemblance in the particular hue of their uniform…
…with one of my work shirts.
Anyway, I’ve been searching for this particular song ever since I heard it earlier this year. I’m not a big fan of Chinese music at all (since I hardly understand the lyrics) but this one is good. I call it the Flaming Lamborghini song. The actual title is Cong Taipei dao Beijing (From Taipei to Beijing) and it’s a liberating break up song of some sort.
I don’t really understand the lyrics but it goes something like:
From Taipei to Beijing / I feel liberated by love lost
I heartily party with one Flaming Lamborghini / A couple drinks of Bloody Mary
Gives me an outlet for my rage.
When you said you wanted out / I felt very relaxed, my mind absolutely calm
I want you to regret this decision / I really don’t need you
I could be completely mutilating the song due to my limited understanding of Chinese so if someone better than me could actually translate it, it would be much appreciated. I think part of the appeal is that I don’t understand most of the lyrics so I can related to it any way I want to. Heh! It’s going to be my ringtone now. π
HDS:
2002 – Grampians trip report in Melbourne, Australia. I was camwhoring before the name was even invented. π
2003 – Bangsar Telawi Mamak and first day at work in XM Malaysia. I was in KL working at the time.
2004 – Jojo Cafe in Kuching – it’s a popular Chinese eating establishment. I used to bring one of the boys in blue there to eat, despite the non-halal status. It’s the one I like better.
2005 – Doing a Fast Food Inc. post on a Pizza Hut promotional pizza.
2006 – Triple play – there’s a post on BDC beef noodles, another one of Cherie and the last one is a syringe pen that I got in Thailand.
KL Trip Day 2: Nicole Tan and Chelsea Asia Tour 2008
I was busy with the preparations for my sister’s wedding for most of the day before Nicole texted me and asked if I was free for dinner. She was the one who wrote the rather alarming article about me in The Star and now that the fallout is (or seem to be) relatively over, I wanted an autographed copy of the column. Heh!
Well, in all fairness, it really wasn’t her fault coz I consented to the interview but the headline was a bit on the sensationalist side. Nicole is a really nice person in real life, we had dinner at Tasting Room in Bangsar and polished off a couple of bottles of wine. The full review of Tasting Room wine bistro will be in a separate post.
Anyway, at some point during the night, it was decided that we were to drive down to Shah Alam and catch the Chelsea – Malaysia friendly match after all. Nicole wanted me to drive her car down (!). I was a little shocked and awed by her faith in my driving skillz, especially with the number of collisions I have under my belt and the two bottles of wine plus several other glasses during a tasting session in me.
I did find it quite amusing that I’m actually qualified to be a designated driver – I’m probably the worst candidate for that. I’m also secretly honored by Nicole’s faith in me driving her car down to Shah Alam, so I put on my best Sober Expression (TM), and took the 1 hour drive down to the Shah Alam Stadium. I noticed that she did take precautions to fasten her seat belt though. π
I didn’t quite know my way around KL and Shah Alam so Nicole was giving directions from the passenger seat while Grace slept at the back. It took us a little more than an hour to arrive due to traffic congestion and the poor road signs to the stadium where Chelsea was playing. I also remembered missing an exit three (3) times in a row due to my inebriated state and having to make a long U turn back only to miss it again.
Shah Alam Stadium was packed full of Chelsea (and the odd Malaysia) fans and I had a ticket in addition to the five (5) I gave out in the Heineken Chelsea contest so I decided to go in and take a couple of photos and videos.
The stadium at full capacity.
Chelsea scores the second goal of the match. 2-0.
Snack vendor catering to the crowd.
Frenzy – the minority Malaysia team supporters lamenting a missed opportunity.
Final score: 2-0 to Chelsea.
Watch the video of the Chelsea Malaysia friendly match. This is the Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 – Malaysia event.
The girls weren’t keen on going in due to the crowd and I couldn’t find the other bloggers so I left after a bit to drive back to KL. I heard the score was 2-0 to Chelsea when we headed back to Wine Cellar to have some more to drink. More about that in another post. Cheers!
Sony T-300
I just got my new digicam from Mary whom, due to her tau keh nio connections, got me a special price which I’m not allowed to disclose. I was actually pondering about getting the Sony T-300 and the Olympus 10 meter waterproof digicam but I concluded that the latter would be too bulky for everyday carrying.
She got it for me at the dealer’s price (which is much cheaper than retail) but with strings attached. Not very simple this Mary. π
Thus, I am now the owner of the Sony Cybershot T-300 digicam with 4 GB of memory (with the additional 2 GB from the defunct Sony T-70 and the battery).
Shuttlecock
I went for a game of badminton after nearly 2 years of a sedentary lifestyle (except for the occasional swim). It was at the badminton court at Eden Inn where we booked a 2 hour slot. I was playing with 3 other people in mixed doubles and I was totally bushed at the end of the time slot.
I started up in high spirits, with Faye as my partner. She’s a much better player than I am, despite my regular sessions in two of the three drug rehab centers that I’ve been in where badminton is one of the scheduled sports activities.
The first game went in our favor, thanks to Faye who caught the far court landings while I took care of the net balls (lacking in stamina lar, so I had to conserve a little). My heart rate was skyrocketing after the first game and I had aches and sores all over my body (which I’m feeling even more today).
This is what I looked like after the end of the 2 hour session. Luput (Malay for half dead) is the word.
It was good though, getting some exercise to get the metabolism rate going. I felt much better after consuming copious amounts of 100 Plus (an isotonic drink). I would prefer swimming but the competitive element inherent in badminton and other team sports can be fun too.
