Got beef?

got beef

Do you have beef against our friendly neighborhood broadband provider Streamyx? I’ve been hearing a lot of complaints about it but what’s interesting is that I hear EVEN MORE from the people who switched to other less established ISPs. I’m quite happy with my connection – it’s not expensive compared to some other players and the best thing about it is that it’s available nationwide. No restrictions on where you can use it. Not limited to Klang Valley and all that.

Sounds damn hard sell? Not if you look at my history, I’ve always been on Streamyx (except during the dark ages when all I had was dial up T_T). It’s fast and it’s reliable. I think the reason a lot of people diss it is coz it’s the incumbent and everyone likes to talk shit about the existing provider and praise the new players.

It’s like politics…let’s see how you feel about The Opposition (TM) when they finally come into power. Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss (only less reliable and prone to throwing tantrums). πŸ˜‰

ISDN, Sat connections and ADSL

tmpoint

I just moved from Kelana Jaya to the Bangsar area and switched my Streamyx broadband to the place over here. I’ve had a lot of questions about why I did that. I don’t know why but a lot of people think Streamyx is passΓ© now with all the new nifty players on the market.

However, for me (and others) it is still the most reliable broadband provider. I’m not just saying that coz this is an advertorial – this was one I accepted coz it really reflects my feelings. I started out with TM dialup (1515 anyone?) coz I’m old (skool) and as soon as Streamyx was available, I just jumped on it.

I was even considering stuff like satellite connections coz it hasn’t rolled out in Sibu back then. I was a real geek back in the days (probably still am, just in a different arena) and thought  it would be worth it to get a sat connection (great downlink, but uplink is slow coz it runs on dialup). ISDN was also an option but PROHIBITIVELY expensive back in the days.

It was something of a godsend when Streamyx came into the scene. It’s why I’m still using it…and will continue to use it. I’m just loyal like that ya. πŸ˜‰

Speed eating video

speed eating

I’ve always waxed lyrical about this particular chap fan place in Kelana Jaya. It is hands down the best place for lunch and I’ve missed eating there ever since I moved. Anyway, I decided it was high time to head back and do a video of myself eating a huge plate of nostalgia so I drove back yesterday afternoon.

I videoed myself eating it – this really is how fast I usually eat the stuff. It took me ages to upload this coz I’m not on Streamyx right now. I’m waiting for my account to get transferred over here so I can get proper broadband. I finished the entire plate of rice but I’m not too pleased at my own pace so I’m going to have to do it again.

No la, that’s just an excuse for me to head back. I really love their offerings but you have to be there around 9 am coz the good dishes sell out really fast.

Shooting an apple off your head

apple-karen

There was this game last night which we kinda butchered. You’re supposed to shoot a slingshot (medieval style, yo) at a target but somehow or other we got an apple. Thus it turned into the classic shoot-the-apple-off-the-head stunt.

Karen really used the slingshot (which was why I was covering my face) and the most amazing thing is, she actually HIT the apple.

apple-me

The reason I let her do it was coz I trusted her to aim in that general direction (instead of down south where the family jewels are – only son k). It’s also why I use Streamyx broadband…cross my heart and hope to die, I have really been using exclusively that since I got of dial up. I guess it’s just one of those things – you believe in the service.

Just like I trusted Karen not to aim down there. >.<

My new studio apartment

*pleased*

living room

I have found a new place in record time and for once I’m not settling for it coz I’m in a rush to get a roof over my head. I really, really like it. =D

Behold! My new studio unit!

bedroom

I went straight after work so I didn’t have a digicam or dSLR with me. The crappy photos don’t do it justice, especially with a hyperbolic word like “behold”, which should probably be reserved for divine entities. :p

dining table

It’s a studio so there are no doors to speak of. Open concept. I can even see the toilet from my dining table. πŸ™‚

kitchen

It’s fully furnished and comes with everything…even the kitchen sink (obviously la).

infinity pool

There’s also an infinity pool, Jacuzzis and saunas so I’m looking forward to moving in this weekend!

The only thing that’s lacking is broadband so I’m going to get my Streamyx transferred over to this studio! I’m not switching coz Streamyx has been working reliably for me all this while. =D

Project Alpha finale

This is the final video of my Project Alpha episodes. It’s also the last episode in the show which I dub “The one where I breathed fire using kerosene”. I was hoping for this to be in an episode by itself though. Oh well. This is a 3-in-1 episode which has:

  • Fire breathing
  • Drinks at Helo Bali
  • Wrap party at Euporia, MOS

I actually got very, very excited by the fire breathing and did it several times in a row, much to the consternation of the crew. I guess it must have looked like I have an unusually healthy disregard for the safety of my life and limb. πŸ˜‰

Fire breathing

However, it wasn’t that hard – closest I got was a lil burning sensation on my lips when I didn’t expel the kerosene with enough force AND draw back (which is crucial so you don’t burn your lips). It was a lot of fun!

w00t! Now I can do this neat trick at BBQs or functions where an ample supply of kerosene or other flammable materials are available! πŸ˜‰

martini

Bad Idea (TM)

I may have ingested more ethanol based drinks than I ought to during the wrap party.

me martinis

Worse Idea (TM)

I crashed my car straight after that and it cost me RM 11,000 in repairs. Sigh.

moet

Worst Idea (TM)

I guess you can say that this episode cost me 11k, so go watch it!

Best enjoyed with Streamyx, of course. πŸ˜‰

Hey, it really works for me – no buffering or crap like that when I watch it with my Streamyx broadband at home. I even wrote a dissertation analogy about the reliability.

Taking things for granted

youtube

I’ve been using Streamyx broadband ever since “broadband” and “Malaysia” has been used in the same sentence. Before that, I was on 14.4, 28.8 and then 33.6 kbps dial up modems and you really get to appreciate speed when it comes.

Streamyx was the first broadband to hit Malaysia and when I got it, I was ecstatic. Finally! I don’t have to open multiple windows to load webpages and go make myself a cup of coffee and come back just in time to see the first one load.

You know human nature right? You think your girlfriend is the best thing since God made Eve until you marry her and then you start roaming around for bigger younger and better things.

That, my friends, is the root of all problems.

We take things for granted. We forget the great things that made us fall in love in the first place (analogy to broadband here wtf) and start nitpicking at all the minor stuff while ignoring the glaring negative attributes of the new girlfriend (or broadband provider).

This is also related to what I call the Corner Mamak Theory (TM) – eh, seriously I filed a patent for this so don’t use it unless you intend to pay me royalties k? πŸ˜‰ I will explain the Corner Mamak Theory (TM) in more detail in another post. Haha!

Seriously though, I love my Streamyx, haven’t switched since I started subscribing to it coz it does what I need. Sure, it’s a “familiar” name and you know it’s gonna be there for you so you start taking it for granted and you look at new broadband players with rose tinted glasses.

jestina

Well, it’s a bitter pill to swallow but lemme tell you this, I’ve been through life enough to know that there is no such thing as the “perfect girl”. The “perfect girl” is what you make of it. Streamyx does the job for so that’s why I’m not switching. πŸ™‚

or take them with gratitude.”

The incriminating Episode 6

This is the episode I have been dreading. Cherie (my ex-girlfriend) came on set and gave the lowdown on how she met me.

I WANT TO GO ON RECORD HERE! That is not how I remember meeting her. T_T

cherie 2005

The photo above was taken when we first met – Cherie is the one in green. This post describes the event leading up to when I first met Cherie and it does not involve toilets, washrooms, water closets or latrines. None. Nada. Zilch.

tgif me jojo

I wish Jojo and Michael would just run amok with the editing scissors and cut out the majority of the stuff. Heh! We did a couple of takes and there were things said which can best be described as uncomplimentary. πŸ˜‰

tgif cherie

However, there were some good things said too, which didn’t go into the final episode. Can we have an outtakes episode? :p

tgif shoot

This episode was fun to do coz I had a (more than) a couple of beers while shooting the scene. You see, there’s this thing called “scene continuity” so if you mess up a scene but took a sip (or a gulp) from your freshly opened beer while at it, you’ll need a new one so it doesn’t look weird.

tgif start

This means you have to finish the current bottle. FML. πŸ˜‰

tgif jojo

It was a good scene though, I like this one coz Cherie knows me well. I guess you can say that we’ve been through a lot together – it’s a chemical romance with its ups and downs but at the end, it’s nice that we can still be friends and say “Hey, when it was good, it was great right?” πŸ™‚

Here are the other episodes that I haven’t posted up:

Episode 5

Episode 4

I use Streamyx broadband at home and I love the speed it gives me. I’m on the 1 Mbps package and YouTube videos loads right away. Instant gratification! =D

Dial up is better than nothing

kuching net

It’s two and half months…I’ve not have net access at home for that
long. That just changed today, the Telekom people came in and installed
my phone line. πŸ™‚ Now, I’ll only have to wait for my Streamyx, there’s
some problems due to the fiber wiring here instead of copper. Anyway,
I’ll get the lignocaine post up soon, it’s been approved. πŸ˜‰ Till then!

Er…it might take a while, dailup is slow after running on a Streamyx Enterprise line…

Streamyx

streamyx.jpg

Streamyx by tmnet. I finally have broadband again. I’m on an ADSL
connection now, the technician just came today after I applied for the
Streamyx Basic 88 package (with the 384 kbps downstream and 128 kbps
upstream) two weeks ago and it just got activated today. I was actually
thinking about the Streamyx Basic 128 (with 512 kbps download and 128
kbps upload + free tmnet hotspot) coz I figured the hotspot (WLAN
roaming) would do the blog good, but unfortunately my paycheck would
rather I pay RM 40 less per month, coz that means more for other
expenses. πŸ˜‰

I will update again later and reply the comments, dinner awaits…
