Huai Bin sez:

It is the sixth anniversary of sixthseal.com today and I’ve been planning to have a new banner, some site tweaks and the old archives back up but I’m running a little late due to unforeseen circumstances. The archives will be up tomorrow and the all new sixthseal.com by Monday morning the latest. I promise! 🙂

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
But now I have some clarity
to show you what I mean
I don’t know how I got this way
I’ll never be alright
So, I’m breaking the habit
I’m breaking the habit
I’m breaking the habit
Tonight

Mall sushi

mall sushi

I was at Delta Mall after work today with Faye and we found this stall selling sushi at a corner. It’s relatively cheap at 4 boxes for RM 10.

mall sushi display

Each box contains two pieces of sushi and there are a couple of interesting combinations. I notice some of the toppings are decidedly localized, for a lack of a better term. 😉

smiley face sushi

The clerk was particularly proud of this creation – it was made to look like a smiley face. She made it herself and I think she was a little offended when the both of us couldn’t see the similarities. I hear the trick is to look at it sideways…

mall sushi car

We got four boxes to eat in the car since Faye had to do some shopping for her newly renovated room. I have been enlisted to apply my superior flair in color coordination to help her choose an appropriate duvet and fitted sheet for her new bed to match her painted walls.

mall eel sushi

I thought the eel sushi was the best out of the bunch. I didn’t really care for the others.

mall sushi eat

Thus, we did some righteous gorging in the car and headed for another mall. It was alright for the price…

mall sushi good

If anything, you made someone really happy by buying that Smiley Face Sushi. =D

Dubious

dubious

Someone who works in school textbook publishing once told me about the racial stereotyping that’s prevalent in our fine educational material. I don’t know if I started noticing the same after she told me as such or there really is something of that sort going around. Buttered toast landing butter side down (or Schrödinger’s Cat) and all that…

Beng My Hair

beng my hair

I usually get a haircut and color my hair every month and I decided to crop it really short this time and also get it done in a lighter shade. This episode of Beng My Hair (not related to Pimp My Ride) brings in a decidedly orange hue to things.

color

I went for 0-77 Orange and my hairstylist Sue decided that she could improve on the color so I trusted in her judgment. She has been my hairstylist for almost two years now.

color mix

The radioactive looking orange paste was blended and prepared for application.

color hair

Sue started layering on the patented Beng My Hair color paste into my hair and left it there for three hours.

hairstylist food

I haven’t had anything to eat for dinner so I got the café on the floor above to send down some much needed provisions.

hairstylist food macro

I had seafood fried rice with crackers and some iced dessert. It’s a little disconcerting to be eating at the hairstylists with the distinct smell of ammonia wafting down from the bleach. 😉

hair done

This is what it looks like after three (3) hours. Just a spot of drying, and…

hair dry

Wallah! 🙂

The best BBQ Chicken Rice in Sibu

lian kiew cafe

I am told that Lian Kiew Cafe has the best BBQ Chicken Rice in Sibu. The four of us decided to check out the place and found it packed during lunch hour. The coffee shop is doing a rather brisk business in chicken rice and it seems that most of the patrons were ordering the dish.

bbq stall

There is a wide selection of BBQ cuts at the chicken rice stall. There is no steamed chicken on offer, the proprietor only does BBQ chicken. There’s a wide variety of BBQ meat available – BBQ chicken, BBQ duck, BBQ pork (various cuts), BBQ Taiwanese sausage and even BBQ chicken wings.

“They call me The Butcher”

I ordered an assorted platter of BBQ meat and it was sliced up into a bed of cucumbers.

bbq chicken

L-R: BBQ Taiwanese sausage, BBQ chicken wings, BBQ char siew, BBQ chicken, BBQ duck, BBQ pork. (RM 25)

bbq chicken rice

The rice is pretty fragrant for chicken rice too.

bbq meat lovers

It comes highly recommended from me for meat lovers. 🙂

The sixthseal.com mobile returns!

amy home

Amy kindly gave me a ride back home from work just now. My car just came back from the workshop and I have been absolutely CRIPPLED by the lack of transport. Kudos goes out to Faye for snagging the Endurance award – she has been picking me up in the morning and sending me back after work almost every day. 🙂

car back

This is a sight for sore eyes indeed. If I had known that it would take this long to fix the car, I probably wouldn’t have crashed it. 😉

Lunch @ Manna Cafe

manna lunch

Manna Cafe is located pretty close to where I work and thus, I headed down to Manna Cafe for lunch with Amy. My lunch hour is just what it sounds like – an hour (plus 15 minutes to get to and from the place) so it tends to be a rather hasty affair.

nasi lemak

Amy went for their Nasi Lemak which is really the February 2008 promotion, but for some reason it’s still on the menu due to its popularity. It’s served with either beef rendang, chicken curry or beef masak hitam and comes with coffee or green tea for RM 7.90.

stone bowl

I opted for the Stone Bowl Ribeye Steak Rice for RM 8.90. The dish is billed as “grilled ribeye steak over savory rice, topped with black pepper sauce and melted cheese, brought piping hot from the oven to your table”. I like Manna Cafe’s stone bowl offerings and I thought this version was pretty good.

fresh fruits

It also came with a complimentary dish of fresh fruits over shaved ice. 🙂

manna us

I think the food from Manna Cafe comes out a little on the slow side and one hour is probably cutting it a little too thin, especially taking rush hour traffic into consideration. Unless you work somewhere in the building itself, of course.
