Chap Goh Meh 2010

chap goh meh 2010

Happy Chap Goh Meh everyone! For those who understand, Chap Goh Meh in Hokkien literally means 15th night, the very fucking last day of Chinese New Year. I didn’t plan anything for the night, since I just got back from Langkawi and was nursing the tsunami from the duty free liquor available there.

jerine chap goh meh

Anyway, I was on Twitter and Jerine tweeted that she wanted to drink some vodka. It’s fine with me, we’re both orphans in this big fucking cold city called KL. However, I didn’t have any mixers (real men drink it neat from the bottle) so she brought a shitload of decidedly feminine mixers over.

She came over to my studio with mint leaves, Sprite and Yahweh knows what else.

jerine yee sang

It was good though. I was damn sleepy and nursing a fever but I haven’t had dinner yet, so Jerine brought over some Nando’s and I ordered Domino’s to balance out the meal. Yeah, I know, it’s not Chinese food by any stretch of the imagination, but hell, you make do right?

jerine lou sang

Stranger in a strange land and all that.

This is our yee sang courtesy of Eiling. She brought it over during the lobster cookout but we didn’t manage to eat it so I figured this is the last chance for CNY 2010 to be doing some good ol’ lou sang – see our wishes for the year. Jerine has a bit of an unorthodox wish, but hell, who am I to comment. Haha!

jerine me

It was good, despite the Fast Food Inc spread that dominated our Chap Goh Meh dinner.

jerine

The best thing about Chap Goh Meh (which is supposed to be a reunion) is that you’ll be spending it with people so three cheers for Jerine for taking the trouble of catching a cab over to my place, cleaning up after and eating crap with me during the last day of Chinese New Year! =D

JivaRhu spa massage

masseuse

I just had a very relaxing massage at JivaRhu spa in Tanjung Rhu Resort. Yes, I’m staying here for 3D/2N and I’m lovin’ every single second of it!

jivarhu spa

JivaRhu spa is nested in a quiet corner of the resort and you can feel the breeze from the sea and various birds chirping (not muzak, these are real birds) while you’re served with a cold towel.

jivarhu massage

There are various rejuvenating massages on the menu – everything from Swedish massage to Shiatsu and even exotic sounding ones like Shramonash massage. The 50 minute massage session costs RM 250. I opted for the Malay Traditional Massage (Urut) since I am in Langkawi.

foot massage

This is my masseuse – her name is Irati and she’s from Bali. The session started with a foot bath in warm water. The service here is excellent, you don’t even have to do anything – the masseuse will soak your feet and gently wash and dry it for you.

The Urut massage was great. It started off with the masseuse applying pressure with her nimble fingers…working the knots in your muscles on your back. I asked for more pressure and despite her diminutive size, she managed to apply enough force to loosen all the tension on my shoulders. The session progressed to Irati using her forearm to gently rub along your oiled body down to the spine before moving to your legs and thighs.

Her fingers worked magic and I fell asleep at one point before she woke me up and asked me to turn over. The Urut massage is quite comprehensive, I liked the reflexology elements where the masseuse put your feet up on her shoulders and rubs the soles.

The warm oil and the soft caresses of the masseuse gliding over your skin of your body while the sounds of nature lulls you into a Zen-like state is pure heaven!

Seremban Siew Pau

caydence seremban

Caydence, the self-dubbed Princess of Seremban, brought me around her hometown for a food tour – the best of Seremban’s offerings. It is rather ironic considering that she doesn’t eat that much to begin with (understatement of the century). We went to three places, two of them with her folks who insisted on paying for everything and even bought me Seremban siew pau to bring back.

Seremban Siew Pau is a crispy BBQ bun filled with pork goodness.

I remember someone saying that you can get Seremban Siew Pau in KL now…

…but nothing beats the real thing sourced from Seremban.

I wholeheartedly agree!

I met Yunjin Kim from Lost!

Yunjin Kim

I met Yunjin Kim in Korea during the PIFF 2009 red carpet event! =D

Well not really la, I was standing 5 meters away from her since I had a press pass and the only communication that happened was me shouting “you gi oh” which means a combination of “over here/hey/excuse me” in Korean.

I didn’t manage to get a good shot of her coz she didn’t linger at the red carpet unlike the other Korean celebrities. Yunjin Kim is the actress who plays Sun in the TV series Lost.

I do have photos of other hot Korean actresses wearing more titillating dresses who got much more attention from the other photographers but I still love Yunjin!

Sa rang hae yo Yunjin! =D

Anyway, if you missed the XBerry party, you can still get the BlackBerry Curve 8520 for RM 998 with a RM 50 reload (you gotta reload anyway right?) at any Blue Cube outlets. The RM 998 promo is only valid till 15 November, more about the Xpax deal here.

Korean Airlines KAL stewardess

Korean Airlines KAL stewerdess

I am back in KL after a grueling 6 hour plus flight from Seoul! We took a KAL (Korean Airlines) flight from Busan to Seoul too so that took the better part of the day. I’m going to crash now so here’s an XX Chromosome post (been neglecting this) with the Korean Air flight crew/cabin attendants. I’ve given them a crash course on how to mix proper Bloody Mary drinks. πŸ˜‰

Regular sixthseal.com programming will resume tomorrow! =D

P/S – I’ve returned the +82 010 688 1579 Korea cell phone rental so call me at my usual number if you want to get in touch with me.

Dinner with an unexpected guest

Jojo Struys 1

I have preached again and again about the importance of having a digicam with you at all times. Unfortunately, I am not exactly known for practicing what I preach, often with disastrous results. A friend of mine called me out for dinner but he was struck down by a bout of food poisoning so it was just Jojo, Stephanie and me.

Jojo Struys 2

I didn’t know which Jojo it was until I arrived and nearly drove the 23 km back to grab my dSLR. It was Jojo Struys and Stephanie Chai! Alas, armed with only my crappy cell phone camera, I couldn’t really take good photos but Jojo was kind enough to use her Blackberry to take photos and email it to me.

Jojo Struys 3

This is why you should lug your dSLR everywhere you go. You just never know who you’re going to meet.

Thanks for buying me dinner Jojo! πŸ™‚

dSLR, where art thou?

girl bubbles

I’ve always believed in carrying a digicam with me at all times, coz you never know when a Kodak Moment (TM) will present itself. I have never gone wanting since I usually purchase compact digicams which I can slip into my pants. I’ve had a bulky “prosumer” digital camera in the past, but lugged it around with me everywhere I go anyway (with a tenacity that would probably put most jihadists to shame)

girl blur.

I still maintain this practice (old habits die hard) but for some reason I left my dSLR in my car today.

girl bathtub

Murphy’s Law kicked into effect just now and I found myself in the presence of a young, nubile girl (OMG, did I write that out loud?) blowing bubbles from a bathtub.

I had to take the photos and video using my crappy cell phone.

/kicks self.

Must. Carry. dSLR. At. All. Times.

MDG 2 – The backstage experience

backstage

I have been backstage at the MDG 2 closed auditions and was privy to the…well, things that goes on backstage. Acha took the liberty of predicting that I would have 1 son and 1 daughter in my lifetime. I guess that that just leaves 1 daughter then, or none. I’m not too sure myself. πŸ˜‰

curtains

This is the girl’s dressing room. Yeah, being one of the official bloggers sure opens doors (or curtains rather). πŸ˜‰ It was fun to hang around with the girls and get to know them better. The 21 hopefuls have been narrowed down to a scant 12 girls. The Chosen (TM) will get to live at the MDG 2 Dream House.

girls galore

…all in all, it was a jolly good time.

Hey, I can’t say being surrounded by 21 girls is a chore. =D

Check out my MDG 2 post for more details. The names of the 12 finalists will be released soon!
