iHave iPhone 4

maxis iphone launch

Yes, I was one of the people who went for the much anticipated iPhone 4 when Maxis launched it at Gardens, Midvalley.

I arrived there at about 10:30 pm on Thursday 23rd September and there was already a huge queue of people waiting to be the first in Malaysia to get their grubby paws on the iPhone 4. (The video is actually a tour of the inside before the crowd shots)

panoramic queue

The iPhone 4 is due to be released at the stroke of midnight so all the Apple fans were there in droves!

maxis iphone vip party

I was there early so I could go around and check out the scene. There is an area inside where the features of the iPhone 4 is displayed and explained.

ibooks

iBooks! I would so totally love this since I read a lot.

maxis cakes

Check out the Maxis cupcakes!

violinist

The Maxis iPhone 4 launch had no shortage of entertainment – I really liked this violinist who played at the lounge.

I’m revealing my age here, but I love this song! It’s Rednex’s Cotton Eye Joe. smirk

food

There were also food and drinks galore. I love this lamb kebab they had. It tasted delicious with the dip that went with it.

group shot

We were hanging out at the lounge until the press conference was slated to start.

launch

The end (of waiting) is nigh! w00t!

The Maxis people launched the iPhone 4 right on the stroke of midnight and we went to the rooftop to catch the official launch.

queue

I managed to get my iPhone 4 at about 2 am. I hear some people had to wait till 4 am and wore their next day office attire to get it. smirk

vip

iPhone 4. I haz it! I got the micro SIM last weekend and the initial impressions I have of the phone is very positive. I’m lovin’ it. Full review coming up soon!

entertainment

It feels good to be the first in Malaysia to get my hands on it.

iphone4

The only downside to it is that I have to beat back all my friends who want to buy it off me. πŸ™

Get it yourself la can! Go to Maxis, they have stock. I want the iPhone 4 to complete my collection of smart phones!

I’m not an ordinary egg!

nest egg

Nest egg

Which came first? The chicken or the egg? I think that question is best left for philosophers to ponder upon. More importantly, what do you think of the pun in my caption? smirk

creme brule

Alright, the pun wouldn’t make sense until later in the post. I attended the SaFegg Healthy Living Talkshow last week where the concept of pasteurized eggs was introduced to us. It wasn’t a drab and dull event where you struggle to stay awake and wish you had a toothpick to prop your eyelids up, but a rather educational one. The lavish spread in Hilton’s ballroom prepared using the very same eggs is icing on top of the cake.

ballroom

The glistening silverware almost had me shielding my eyes. :p

I have seen these eggs in Cold Storage before and I even use it to cook. The first thing that came into mind when I first saw these eggs is that it’s very atas eggs. I love the packaging and each individual egg has a use-by date printed on it. I was amazed. I didn’t know much about it though until a couple of weeks later when I went to this event.

registration

SaFeggs is the first and only pasteurized egg in Malaysia and the technology behind it is from Korea. These eggs are carefully selected, checked for hairline cracks and coated with a protective layer of mineral oil before pasteurization to keep it fresh for longer.

safegg talk

As Professor Gulam Rasul from USM puts it, the pasteurization process kills bacteria, which is the main cause of salmonella and e-coli poisoning. Pasteurization is not a new process – it has been used for ages in milk, but not eggs. The term is derived from a certain man who discovered that he could kill most bacteria by heating liquids in 1862.

Louis_Pasteur

You have this bearded fellow (heard it’s all the rage back then) to thank for it. Mr. Louis Pasteur. Or Monsieur Pasteur since he’s French. Heh!

Anyway, back to the SaFegg Healthy Living Talkshow, I found out that a normal egg has a transparent egg white while a bacteria-free egg looks opaque! The special packaging it comes in also increases the shelf life of Safegg for up to 60 days.

pasturized egg

It is safe enough to even consume raw for all of you body building enthusiasts out there who cracks 20 eggs into a protein shake and chugs it before hitting the gym and bench pressing 200 kgs.

talking heads

The Korean representative also cracked a joke (pardon the pun) about his next egg project. I was the only one who chuckled though, which makes me wonder if I was the only who got it. It certainly won’t pass FDA regulations if anyone thought he was serious. smirk

ordinary egg

The eggs in the green packaging also contains DHA which helps your brain (very useful for me, considering the devastation I have done to my cerebral cortex in my hedonistic lifestyle ;)), heart and eyes.

safegg

It’s a little bit more expensive than regular eggs but consider it as an investment towards your health. That’s where the pun in the caption comes in. Geddit? πŸ˜‰

After the talk, we were ushered into the grand ballroom. I think I can speak for everyone when I say I didn’t expect such a fine dining experience when the agenda lists “Refreshments”. This is a far cry from what I would call refreshments – there are dedicated stations where you can order eggs in any style you want – poached, sunny side up, scrambled, soft boiled, and the list goes on.

omelet

You can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.

eating egg

The buffet lineup was also rather impressive, with lamb and fresh salmon on the menu.

food

However, the thing that really resonates with me is their desserts – creme brulee being my favorite. They also have a lot of cakes on offer (this is why Malaysians consume an respectable 305 eggs per person per year – a lot of food contains eggs) but I was content with attempting to finish all their eggnog.

desserts

This may be the best eggnog I’ve ever had. In case you didn’t know, eggnog is usually a Christmas drink so I was pleasantly surprised to see it here. It’s made with Safeggs like all the food and drinks during lunch. Oh, and it also contains brandy and rum. I had quite a few of these. smirk

eggnog

I think it was at that point that I decided I could never have the patience to eat a soft boiled egg properly and decided to throw decorum out of the window and just slurp it from the egg holder.

soft boiled egg

We got a goodie bag with cartons of SaFeggs, an egg holder and an automatic soft boiled egg maker. Nifty. I love soft boiled eggs and have at one point in my life consumed 32 eggs (no joke) in a single sitting mixed with lots of pepper and soy sauce.

Egg-cellent!

slurping egg

Not an ordinary egg? Yup, egg-actly. πŸ™‚

The Largest Milk Drinking Event Ever

camwhore

I went to the launch of World Milk Day 2010 in Pavilion, KL two days ago to witness and participate in the Malaysian Book of Records attempt for the Largest Milk Drinking Event ever.

crowd

There were throngs of people there and Dutch Lady was handing out packs of their limited edition UHT milk to the 3,200 (!!!) people in this record breaking feat. The initial target was 2,500 people but they managed to get way more than that.

amber chia me

Oh, and I bumped into Amber Chia! (must put two photos
smirk)

amber chia

I also spotted the TV3 crew – they were there to document the event and I tried to spot the videographers but I reckon it’s a bit of a challenge to get yourself into the lens with the massive crowd that was there. πŸ˜‰

registration

The day started with a welcoming address by Bas van den Berg and the usual speeches before we were briefed on the record breaking attempt.

speach

There was a countdown by the drummer before the live crossover to TV3 (gotta check if I managed to get in the shot) before the 20 minute attempt was done smack dab in the packed area outside the mall.

thinner

Thinner. Remember that Stephen King book written under the pseudonym Richard Bachman?

record breaking

My fellow participants.

Malaysian Book of Records!

mbr

Rita Rudner is famous for saying that “In Hollywood, a marriage is a success if it outlasts milk“. Well, I’m not one to argue with that but we managed to achieve, nay, surpass the record! This is the Malaysian Book of Records adjudicator presenting the certificate to Dutch Lady.

bloggers

The event wasn’t over though – activities galore was held throughout the day.

mirror

I particularly liked the one by the cheer leading team. smirk

slimmer with milk

Don’t get me wrong, the reason I enjoyed it was purely out of…er, scientific interest. Milk provides energy and I wanted to see and behold with my own very eyes just how much energy it can provide for a 1 hour cheer leading routine. πŸ˜‰

good complexion

There were free milk giveaways and performances. There was also a flag off of the Dutch Lady World Milk Day Convoy out to distribute milk packs nationwide.

limited edition

1st June (today!) is designated as World Milk Day where the virtues of consuming this dairy product is celebrated around the world as well as the act of consuming milk. Dutch Lady will also be giving out free milk packs at toll plazas at all major highways today. This is not just limited to Peninsula Malaysia but Kuching too, so go grab one!

drinking milk

Dutch Lady is also running a contest called Spread the Goodness of Milk where you get a chance to win prizes worth RM 1,000,000 from just guessing the number of milk packets by type and answering two easy questions. You can even win a HOUSE! Get more details here!

10 reasons I need a new ride

#1 My current one is getting a little long in the tooth

long in the tooth

I own a Toyota Vios 1.5G which I bought in 2006 and from the multiple accidents that its been through…well, it doesn’t handle as good as it used to.

#2 It’s My Life

…and I did it my way. I’m 29 and I’ll be purchasing a condo in a couple of months. The next step is getting a new car. I like to think that I’m still young (oi, at least I’m not 30 yet okay?) and I want a performance car which handles well on the road but won’t make me file for Chapter 11 just for gas. I come from a family of Toyota owners (my dad has a Land Cruiser and Lexus, which is not technically Toyota but same company) so when I trade in I’m gonna get me a Vios 1.5G TRD Sportivo.

#3 Steer me up Scotty!

central panel

This the redesigned steering wheel in the new Vios. I love steering wheels with integrated controls. It just helps prevent #1 – accidents. You know how it is when you’re driving your friends. Everyone with different music tastes and so forth. Switch channels? Volume up? Sure!

#4 Reat flat floors

flat seats

You will not appreciate this until you come to that hallowed time when you really want a flat floor. I won’t elaborate further. The official SPL is that you can…er, recline and just chill like you’re the King of the World (or at least the King of the Backseat).

Erm, it kinda sleeps two at the back too – one on the backseat and one of the floor. No…ah, backache to worry about. πŸ˜‰

#5 Big Pimpin’

vios g trd

You want a sweet ride, right? Nice, sleek and new with perhaps that extra boost to get you from Point A to Point B a little bit faster.

aerokit

TRD decals on everything would do wonders too!

rims

Pick up chicks as easy as ABC. By chicks of course I mean baby chickens (the poultry, the white meat we eat).

#6 You’re hot and you’re cold

hot cold

Okay, this is one of my pet peeves. Not everyone is created equal…at least not with regards to cold tolerance. Some people just feel chilly at a relatively warm 18 degrees Celcius. Of course, being the courteous driver, you have to accomodate for them…and this is where the centre instrument panel with brand new aircond control dials comes in handy.

#7 Red is the new black

trimmings

Check out the new red stitching on the seats, shift and steering wheel of the Vios 1.5G TRD. It’s subtle but it’s noticable. I feel faster already!

#8 God is in the details

The new Toyota Vios 1.5G and 1.5G TRD Sportivo has design and performance changes which makes one of the best selling cars in Malaysia all the better (better-er?).

vios g front

There’s a new grille

vios g back

A remake of the rear combi lamp

An all new combination leather seat in addition to the other details in this Vios makeover documented above

#9 Economical with the truth

concealed

If you noticed (which you won’t) the new Vios 1.5G varients have concealed front center storage. I love this. Anything with the word “concealed” appeals to me…until the 5-0 learns about it of course. πŸ™

Otherwise, you can just put whatever you want inside there and there’s no one to stop (and search) you.

…and another thing about (fuel) economy, the VVT-i engine will get you far. Take it from a Vios owner. It’s easy on the wallet when you pull up to a gas station.

#10 Fast and furious

rear

Well, at least look the part – with the new TRD Sportivo aerokit, seat fabric and suspension kit.

sportivo

Now the latter will really help a lot when that ciplak car beside you with its big modified exhaust and boosted up sound system makes the driver think it has +666 HP – until you leave him in the dust. πŸ˜‰

I kinda feel bad after going for that test drive with the Toyota Vios 1.5G TRD Sportivo coz it makes my current ride feel…so old. And I don’t like being reminded of my age. :p Time to save up then for an upgrade!

i want

Desirability…do you have it?

Astro B.yond Bloggers Night

astro byond me toilet

O hai! I iz here terrorizing your female toilet!

astro byond modestos

The Astro B.yond Bloggers Night was held at Modesto’s, Desa Sri Hartamas last Wednesday. It was a blast – Nuffnangers packed the place to the rafters despite it being a working weekday.

astro byond murder in the details clues

I went to the venue early in the afternoon. Besides helping Caydence stick up stuff in the toilets, I was slated to be the MC for the on-ground game so I had to be there for the dry run.

astro byond caydece toilet

You know how much sheer effort goes into organizing an event like this?

astro byond setup

I used a calculator to work the figures out and it damn near exploded on me. Suffice to say it takes A Whole Goddamn Lot (TM) of effort to make it happen.

astro byond desa park city

There was a HD New Year Resolution video shoot at Desa Park City a couple of weeks ago to debut at the Astro B.yond Bloggers Night.

astro byond new year resolution

I was one of the bloggers in that video.

astro byond hdtv kim

It took the better part of the afternoon under the hot sun to wrap up the shoot. Desa Park City is a nice location but apparently the management does not believe in foliage which provides shade. πŸ˜‰

astro byond hdtv camera

The blogger’s NY resolution video was sent off to a studio for post-production and shown in full HD glory during the night.

astro byond studio

I brought a change of clothes to Modesto’s so I can wear a t-shirt inside the venue. We stuck up all the clues and rehearsed for the re-enactment with Fresh.

astro byond me caydence start

My car reeks of ethanol so I chucked my shirt into Caydence’s car (coz her car smells nice) before we changed at about 6 pm.

Insider account:

astro byond board

The Murder in the Details game is a Facebook application that we organized an on-ground activation for (damn big words right? England powderful) and it involves sourcing around for an acceptable murder weapon. I wanted it to be realistic – as in a real knife – but apparently there were apprehensions about having that on stage so I borrowed one from Modesto’s.

It’s a butter knife so it’s not going to kill anyone. Hey, I’m the one being stabbed so no worries on that. :p

astro byond henry tan

The Astro B.yond Bloggers Night started with a speech from Mr. Henry Tan, the COO of Astro, segueing nicely into the HD video shoot of the bloggers.

astro byond tvc

I nearly jizzed in my pants when the Astro B.yond HD TVC came on. It’s a very nicely done commercial, and we’re the first to see it! I particularly liked the scene where the football player catches the ball while falling into a swimming pool with another one passing by him.

astro byond staff

Dinner was served, along with free flow of drinks. I was running around the entire night so mine consists of a few bites of pasta I nicked from Li Yen and Eileen.

astro byond saxophone

My saxophone tastes funny.

astro byond asian percussion

The Asian Percussion group came in to do their thing right before the Murder in the Details game. I remember them from the Astro B.yond media launch and was impressed by their performance.

Catch them in action here! This is not HD quality I’m afraid, don’t have such equipment in my arsenal.

astro byond mc

I was up on stage after that to attend to the Murder in the Details game.

 astro byond playing game

There are four (4) clues which you need to get right by using a magnifying glass to analyze the A4 laminated pieces of paper scattered throughout the area in order to qualify for an (educated?) guess.

The fifth and final clue is the deal-breaker – it’ll be obvious who the murderer is if you spot that so I took the liberty of pasting it UNDER the tables. πŸ˜‰

astro byond nuffies

The response from the crowd was fantastic! Kudos to all the people who dragged the Nuffies on stage and identified them as the “murderer” – there were a lot of red herrings (no pun intended) coz every Nuffie was wearing red and we all had Band Aids. Heh!

astro byond jestina

Jestina was one of the people who were identified as the murderer. How can? She’s like the nicest person I know okay? :p

The murderer is Fresh of Nuffnang. She’s a very nice (ran out of adjectives and F7 in Word is not helping much) person as well, except when she stabbed me. T_T

The re-enacment of the story involved me, Fresh and Robb – basically the story goes like this:

astro byond dead

Fresh (my wife) walked in on me during an intimate moment with another man (Robb). She got agitated and in a fit of jealousy, stabbed me with a knife. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. >.<

Appalled that her temporary insanity caused the fatality of her husband (so this is what they mean when they say “Till death do us part“) she fled the scene and cut her hand on a piece of glass. Robb, after taking all of 3 seconds to mourn my death, also fled the scene using the same route.

astro byond fresh

Now it’s down to the winning team to answer questions related to Astro B.yond to snag the grand prize of an Astro B.yond set, a 32″ LG HDTV plus a one year subscription to Astro B.yond until December 2010.

The winner walked home with exactly that – but fret not, Astro has 2 more prizes to give away! You all stand a chance to win the prizes stated above if you write an event coverage blog post. The two best post-event coverage posts will win the Astro B.yond set + 32″ LG HDTV + subscription so let’s see what you have to offer.

murder in the details fb game

While you’re at it, join the Astro Facebook fan page for the Murder in the Details application. There are 10 Astro B.yond sets up for grabs!

If you want to get hooked up with Astro B.yond just surf over to their site or call their hotline at 1300-82-3838 to subscribe.

Hit the Nuffnang blog post if you need further details on how to win the 2 post-event coverage posts. Good luck!

goodie bags

I left the event at about 1:30 am with Caydence and had a hard time getting my brain to function properly the next day, but I can say with all honesty and enthusiasm – it was a damn good event. I enjoyed myself to the max.

Oi! Don’t look at me liddat k? I’m not being hard sell, it just feels good to pull off an event like this and watch everyone enjoy themselves.

astro byond me caydence end

It was a lot of fun and I had a great time being the MC. The free flow of the amber fluid helped loads too!

Roti Kraft competitive eating @ Hassan’s

start

My mother always told me not to play with my food.

hassans

Kraft is promoting their Burger Kraft and Roti Kraft by setting up booths in mamaks around the Klang Valley. I went to catch the one at Hassan’s coz I have (an inflated) faith in my competitive eating skillz. πŸ˜‰

burger kraft

Naturally, I had to try eating it first for practice so I ordered one Burger Kraft. It’s free if you say the tagline “Kasi satu Burger Kraft“. It tasted good – I had no idea just using a premium cheese slice instead of a normal one would result in such a difference.

roti kraft

I also had Roti Kraft – it’s roti canai made with Kraft cheese and this is the one that’s going to be in the competitive eating contest. I like roti cheese and Roti Kraft tastes quite different.

kraft akimbo

You know how some cheese slices don’t even have dairy products inside? Kraft cheese slices isn’t one of those – it’s real cheese. None of that artificial cheese nonsense here.

embedded journalist

Embedded journalist. Heh! These were some people I met at the mamak and sat with them to hear what they thought about the Roti Kraft. It’s mostly positive and a lot of them wanted to join the Roti Kraft eating contest later. Awesome! I love competition. πŸ™‚

mascot

The Kraft mascot came out and made an appearance during the event, greeting people at the mamak and getting them to join the competition.

kind

Oh, how kind of you.

samsung

The competitive eating session is divided into male and female matches and the winner will walk away with a Samsung digital camera.

roti stack

The stage is set with stacks and stacks of Roti Kraft.

dhall

It’s about to get serious.

roti

Battlegrounds!

guys

I managed to eat 3 Roti Kraft in 5 minutes. The winner ate 4. I was just one short. >.<

I think I was talking to much crap at the beginning about my Dhall Theory (TM) instead of scarfing down the food. T_T

females

The female eating session came after that and saw a lot of girls positively stuffing themselves for the digicam.

It started out with very fast pacing…

…which gradually slowed as the competitors started getting full.

The female Roti Kraft competition was much more interesting – it ended up with a tie!

female competition

Thus the two winners (coincidentally the ones I sat with during the night) had to do a tie-breaker game where the person who finishes one Roti Kraft in the fastest time wins.

moral support

Moral support/Praying

This is the tie-breaker video. One of the girls nearly had a reversal after eating that.

final two

Congratulations to the winners!

winners

Kalau Keju Mesti Kraft, Kasi satu Roti Kraft!

me eating

I conclude that it is a lot more fun to watch other people eat competitively than to do it yourself. πŸ˜‰

The Picture of Dorian Gray / Pendidikan Seni

picture

I’m rather proud of this artwork I did. It involved paint, duct tape, brushes, sponges and a lot of prayers to hold it together. It’s an abstract art based on the title of the post so I’ll call this The Picture of Huai Bin.

paint mouth

I’m not known for my artistic skills (understatement of the year). Whenever we had to do Pendidikan Seni (Art) in high school, I would inevitably draw this:

draw

I’m not kidding. I blogged about it back in 2003 in under the absurdly grandiose title Behold, I draw again. πŸ˜‰

setup

One fine Saturday, Nippon Paint invited a bunch of us to the Nippon Paint Workshop at HomeDec ’09, KLCC. I was the first one to arrive so after checking in, I did some recon around the place and found a lot of interesting things such as regal looking porcelain thrones that is more for art’s sake than for actual crapping.

toilet

When I wandered back to the Nippon Paint workshop, I saw easels being set up around the area. It seems like we’ll be painting today!

paint

The tables were filled with all sorts of painting paraphernalia – some of which I don’t have names for. Art just isn’t my forte. >.<

easels

I thought someone was just going to shove a paintbrush into my hands and tell me to paint. It’ll be like Pendidikan Seni all over again. It took 15 years of therapy and thousands of dollars in medication to get over that stressful period of my life and I still have PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)!

food

Repressed memories began to resurface and I felt my heart pound and blood rush to my head. Panic attack! Before I tore the hair out of my head and ran screaming out the door, Gladys came in and made us feel welcome with some food and a presentation.

presentation

The workshop by Nippon Paint was held to teach us about colors. I don’t just mean red, green and blue but also about how colors affect moods and how to create the ambiance you want. There are warm and cold colors and color combinations that can be manipulated for the purpose you want.

camwhore

We also learned about how to make our own designs with a variety of materials. I was amazed by how a little self-painted art can really accentuate a wall, room, or space. I saw this pattern that was done to highlight a wall and cover a beam. It was inspiring! It really got me interested in being creative and adding a motif to my future living room wall.

I gleaned a lot of information from the presentation but my particular interest is in this color:

Red

red

Pros
Passion, fire, energy, courage
Cons
Defiance, aggression

You should never paint a meeting room red or office disputes might just explode to a whole new level, with disastrous consequences. It is a contentious color for the bedroom – it ignites passion, but also arguments.

paints

However, I’m partial to red (notice my banner and my phoenix tattoo) due to the symbology associated with it. Studies have actually shown that it has a physical effect – increasing the respiration rate, raising blood pressure and making your heart beat faster.
I’ll tell you why I want red later.

nippon paint teach

Okay, with the presentation over and the basics ingrained (well, at least not totally lost) we were led by the friendly Nippon Paint staff to our easels and started working on our canvas!

sponge

I cut sponges into eye shapes with scissors

duct tape

I used duct tape artistically to define zones

paint face

I used multiple sizes of paint brushes to color my canvas

eyes

I mixed colors and washed paint brushes with water

drip

Hell, I even squeezed paint straight from the tube onto the easel

duct tape out

I almost felt like Van Gogh (except my left ear lobe is still intact and I haven’t succumbed to mental illness…yet) doing all that.

group

I loved the session so much I lugged my piece of art back home to Kelana Jaya on the LRT at the expense of my back. I seriously felt the need to paint and make beautiful things (which is very subjective, ya know :p) for the first time in my life! I already have a project in mind…I’m going to paint my work table! =D

my painting

That’s why I wanted the color red, I’m going to blog from that table and all the positive attributes are the things I want happening when I’m typing out a post. I’ll face my Pendidikan Seni fears and do a little design on the table while I’m at it too!

painting

Hmm…now what creepy sketch should I do? πŸ˜‰

Nuffnang and OGAWA dinner @ TGIF

event

There’s no such thing as a free lunch, or so the saying goes. However, I went to TGIF @ Pavilion a couple of weeks ago for not just a free dinner, but a free massage to boot. Nuffnang and OGAWA organized a get-together for bloggers and I went straight after work, anticipating good food, great company and perhaps even a massage session thrown in for good measure.

tgif

I was sold. I’ve been working long hours and there’s nothing I want more than some good chow and a nice, relaxing session on a massage chair.

plate

I went straight after work and since my office is in PJ, it took me a while to get to the heart of KL. I was famished by the time I arrived. The food at TGIF was great; I love the lamb chop with mint sauce and the mouth-watering BBQ chicken. Yums. I helped myself to a larger portion than usual and stuffed myself so much I felt like dozing off.

dinners

The Usual Suspects (TM) a.k.a. The Nuffnangers were there in force and we took up half of the entire TGIF outlet. There was a good mix of bloggers this time around. I met a lot of people who I haven’t seen in a while. The dinner concluded with half of us going over to OGAWA for a hands-on (or butt-on) experience with the OGAWA Smart Mate and the OGAWA SmartAire.

smart mate

I went on the OGAWA Smart Mate and it’s a good massage chair. However, the one I’m really interested in is the new OGAWA SmartAire.

curves

It’s featured prominently in their display and the sleek curves and sensual contours (get your mind out of the gutter, I’m talking about the chair) presents a very inviting package that practically whispers in your ear: Come on me.

mmm

Okay, that didn’t sound quite right but back to the chair, I decided to…er, give it a ride. The shop assistants put it on a 15 minute full body massage and boy…

sleep

It was so good that I practically had an orgasm…before falling straight asleep.

controls

Okay, I must admit that I was intrigued by the OGAWA SmartAire which lays claim to the first Zero Gravity massage chair in town. How can this be achieved with the g = 9.8 m/s2 = 32.2 ft/s2 equation that has been drilled into us in high school Physics classes?

funny

It apparently works by reclining you into a 126 degree position which takes the burden of gravity off your spine. You’ll look mighty ridiculous…but you can proudly proclaim to feel great while at it! πŸ˜‰

rollers

It felt so good that I didn’t feel like getting off the chair at all. The sales personnel showed me the rollers which feel like human hands massaging you (it actually does!) and put me on a yoga setting that I thoroughly enjoyed.

su ann

It felt like I was almost floating, without the constant reminder of my bad posture and my neck pain. The 25 air massage bags felt like someone was actually massaging me in a spa (without the happy ending, of course ;)).

ogawa

I volunteered to be Carol‘s assistant tour guide for the second batch of people since I’ve gleaned quite a bit of information from the Ogawa sales personnel. I spontaneously launched into a pitch on OGAWA SmartAire’s NASA technology and the reparative properties of the yoga setting while walking backwards, clutching the brochure and gesturing rather enthusiastically.

guide

It was an impromptu thing, but even I surprised myself by being able to remember stuff like the high pillow design for support and the “uniquely designed S-track to follow the contour of your spine” while talking to the second group during the long trek from TGIF to Ogawa. I guess there’s potential for me in the tourism and hospitality industry yet. πŸ˜‰

It was back to TGIF for more fun and games after that – Telephone a.k.a. Chinese Whispers (which I’ve always found mildly offensive, but it’s what I call it). It goes like this:

There is a man at the bar.
His hand has a scar.
If you want to be a star,
You can tonight, thanks to OGAWA!

It wasn’t the original message of course – I was the last in the line and that was the communiquΓ© when it arrived.

winners

Su Ann and ShaolinTiger snagged the OGAWA EyeTune prizes.

of course

We lost, but a post-mortem conducted by Yours Truly discovered that all 6 of us at the end transcribed it correctly (impeccably even) so the error occurred in the first 4 people. :p

50

BTW, OGAWA is having a Mega Raya promo where everything is 50% off. I thought it said RM 50 at the store and was about to rummage for my wallet to get a massage chair before one of the attendants politely informed me that it was 50% off, not RM 50. Heh! There’s also RM 10,000 worth of shopping vouchers to be won and a shopping experience with Aznil.

end

Nuffnang is having a joint promotion where you can print out vouchers online for ludicrous (defined as up to 70%) discounts on selected items here.

nice

It was a great night and the door gift includes an OGAWA ComfyzzZ Vibrating Neck Supporter which I’ve found rather useful. I’ve taken to sleeping on it lately and it lulls me into Mr. Sandman’s domain relatively faster than my usual pillow. Nifty! It’s very…comfyzzZzzzzzzz…

Glenfiddich – Taste The Future

six

I’ve always been a big fan of single (and available) malt whiskeys. I guess it appeals to the more refined side of me (yes, you have to squint, but it’s there :p). I’ve had Glenfiddich Solera Reserve before and I loved it. Thus, I jumped at the chance when Kim invited me to a Glenfiddich whiskey tasting session.

kim

It’s tantalizingly called Glenfiddich – Taste The Future and I was told that we’ll be sampling several Glenfiddich products, including some that are not available in the market (!). How could I refuse and still sleep at night? The ethanol connoisseur in me (no, you don’t have to squint to see this part) arrived promptly at 3 pm to meet up with Mr. Ong (Kim’s dad).

tables

The tasting session was held at elle six art gallery and it was conducted by Mr Ludoviq Ducrocq. I love names I can’t pronounce – Mr Ludoviq Ducrocq is the Global Ambassador for Glenfiddich and he travels around the world to conduct tastings. I want his job. πŸ™

food

There was a righteous spread of food before the whiskey tasting started. I’m not one to eat before drinking since I like drinking on an empty stomach. Just to torture my body, ya know. πŸ˜‰ However, I grabbed a plate and nibbled on some food just to be polite. Heh!

glenfiddich

The highlight of the evening started with a presentation by Mr Ludoviq Ducrocq. There were 7 glasses in front of each seat. The glasses were on a paper liner detailing the age of the Glenfiddich single malt. Present in the parade was:

Glenfiddich 12 year old
Glenfiddich 15 year old
Glenfiddich 18 year old
Glenfiddich 21 year old
Glenfiddich 30 year old

…and two mystery glasses labeled “New Make Spirit” and “Future Glenfiddich“. Intriguing. I like!

presso

I’m lovin’ it already. πŸ™‚

tasting

Mr Ludoviq Ducrocq taught us the proper way to taste single malt. You swirl the liquid around and smell it before sipping it. The whisky is rolled around your tongue while you breathe in to capture the notes of the whisky before swallowing.

intro

We started off with the Glenfiddich 12 year old and progressed throughout the years. Each time before we taste the Glenfiddich, we were shown a video of what happened during the year the aged single malt was made.

salute

I can recognize scenes from 1997 (12 year old), 1994 (15 year old), and 1991 (18 year old). My memory started getting hazy during the 1988 (21 year old) video since I was only 7 then and I can’t relate to the 1979 (30 year old) video at all. I was still a good year away from swimming into my mother in 1979, accounting for the incubation period of 9 months so I don’t remember anything at all.

smells

The Glenfiddich – Taste The Future session also had covered items on the table in front of us. The glasses contain items ranging from honey to figs. You’re supposed to compare the single malt with the items so there was a lot of sniffing and touching going on. Okay, that sounded wrong, but you catch my drift.

Glenfiddich 12 year old has pear and subtle oak notes.
Glenfiddich 15 year old has warm spice, honey and rich fruit notes.
Glenfiddich 18 year old has oak, apple and cinnamon notes.
Glenfiddich 21 year old has vanilla, rich toffee and new leather notes (!).
Glenfiddich 30 year old has sherry, fig and dark chocolate notes.

me kim

It’s a bit disturbing to actually be able to taste the notes in the whisky…especially the new leather. :S

ducrocq

Mr Ludoviq Ducrocq told us to close our eyes and think back to what happened when a particular whisky was bottled. It should be noted that a Glenfiddich 15 year old (for example) could be much older than that – it just means that it’s aged for at least 15 years prior to bottling.

us

I particularly liked the New Make Spirit. Weighing in at a staggering 70% alcohol, it’s Glenfiddich before it goes into the casks for aging. It has a really strong bite – reminds me of this 95% alcohol I had back in Melbourne.

sa team

The Future Glenfiddich is intriguing as well. It’s 7 years old and a good 5 years away from bottling. However, you can taste hints of this Glenfiddich-to-be. It’s only going to be sold in 2014 at least so in 2014, when you drink a Glenfiddich 12 year old, I’ll be there to say “Hah! I drank that 5 years ago!” in a smug manner. :p

…if I’m still alive in 2014, of course. πŸ˜‰

glen

I liked the Glenfiddich
30 year old the best. It has
character and I can appreciate the aging process it went through. It’s as old as my sister and retails for RM 1,430.

group

There is also a bottle of Glenfiddich Rare Collection 40 year old on display, which we unfortunately did not get a chance to taste. This bottle retails for an astounding RM 8,455.

I got to hold it though. =D

drink

I hear it’s the next best thing. :p

The Tavern @ GAB

tavern

I drive past the GAB (Guinness Anchor Berhad) factory every day on my way to work. I’ve always wondered what goes on inside, being a beer aficionado and all. I was delighted when I got an invite to visit The Tavern @ GAB. The Tavern is an exclusive invite-only pub located inside the factory and the best thing about it is that the beer comes fresh from the factory just beside it. Oh, and the beer is free too. =D

montage

The interior of The Tavern is tastefully decorated and feels warm and cosy. I like the ambience of the pub and there is in fact a real boiler used in the brewery adorning the bar. Nice!

beer

The Tavern has a wide array of beer on tap. The good people at Heineken were kind enough to provide us with a free flow of beer…

food

…as well as food. I must admit, everyone was wondering – What’s the catch? Free food, free beer, there’s gotta be a catch.

us

Well, there isn’t one. It’s just a casual get-together for bloggers to eat, drink and be merry.

aud

I had a lot of fun at The Tavern. We were given the opportunity to pour beer from the tap.

cindy

It sounds easier than it actually is. The glass has to be angled at 45 degrees before gradually brought up to a vertical position. I poured mostly foam the first time I tried it. I am saddened to report that the girls did much better than the guys.

presso

We were also the very first to be privy to the new Heineken UEFA Champions League game – Heineken Star Final 2009. I am astounded by the game mechanics. I didn’t think this was possible using just Flash. Heineken Star Final is a massively multiplayer game where you sail to Krabi, Thailand on a raft.

cam

It’s meant to emulate the journey from the previous Heineken Star Final destination to this year’s Heineken Star Final destination. You can send messages in (Heineken) bottles to other people playing the game – a very nice touch for communicating in-game.

drinks

The rafts are customizable so you can tinker with your design until you find an ocean-worthy vessel adorned with the flag of your choice. I also love the concept of joining fleets – the fastest person to make the arduous (well, not really when you’re sitting behind a computer, but think immersive! ;)) journey in the shortest amount of time wins.

umbrella

You can join a fast fleet (if they accept you) or create your own fleet. The game is amazingly simple, yet has immense replay value coz a lot of the features have to be discovered gradually. Playing through the entire game takes 5 real-time days (!).

carol

I’ve honestly never played an online Flash multiplayer game like this before. I can just imagine the insane amount of coding that produced this masterpiece.

Heineken is also going around Malaysia in April for their A Night in Rome party. It’s going to be held in four different places – Ipoh, Johor Bahru, KL and Miri. I’m glad they didn’t leave Sarawak out. You can check out the dates at the Heineken website.

game

Meanwhile, I’m setting sail again in a couple of days.

Just surf over to Heineken Star Final and look for SixthSeal.com (the fleet, not the blog). The grand prize winner is going for an all-expenses paid trip to Krabi, Thailand to watch the UEFA Champions League live under the stars on the beach. Heineken will be served too, from what I’ve heard. πŸ˜‰

krabi_pic

You want to win a trip to Krabi?

Krabi, ahoy! =D

(That’s not my in-game raft, BTW)
