Petaling Street after midnight

Right. Ethanol induced hunger prompted me to go in search for food.
I called room service but unfortunately they were closed. I went down
and asked the receptionist:

hgorecep.jpg

where I could get food at this hour. She suggested Chinatown (I
assumed that is Petaling Street). Righty-o, off I went with of the two
things known as C2H5OH/C2H6O and C15H10CIN3O3 and found myself at
Petaling Street after a 15 minute walk which I couldn’t remember. Heck,
I wonder why I’m back at the hotel, I hardly remember leaving. πŸ˜‰

pstmidpu.jpg

Petaling St. was a bit deserted towards the back as you can see in
the photo above. It seems that most shops close up at around midnight,
if you squint a bit you can see the guy pulling his cart back home to
the right of the picture.

pstfront.jpg

The front bit is still quite populated though, but I went a bit back
to see if there’s anything interesting to eat and it seems that there’s
no smaller shops so I settled for fried hor fun (something like kueh
tiaw) to go.

Here’s a photo of the shop I went too, notice the guy giving the peace sign at the digicam while I was taking photos. πŸ™‚

pstmidta.jpg

Anyway, I got the hor fun and walked back to eat and now I’m here
updating again even though I’m very sleepy. Here’s a photos of the RM 5
fried hor fun:

pshorfun.jpg

It has seafood, chicken, beef, deep fried pork bits, cabbages and a generous helping of hot chilli sauce on the side.

This is not the okonomiyaki post, that will be up much later today.
Okay, now there’s really an unbearable wave of sleepiness…off I go,
I’ll reply later today when I wake up.

The Standoff

standoff.jpg

I want new shoes and a new skirt for the party tomorrow.
You know we can’t afford that dear…
I hate being in this family! Why don’t even you dress up when we go out? You’re such an embarrassment mom!

A woman walks past without listening and the man slouches in his
chair, oblivious of the standoff just a meter away from him…nodding
out in opiate bliss.

This is a work of fiction based on a photograph I took about a week ago.

No photos!

My digicam died on me this afternoon. I went for dinner with my gf
just now at Premier Hotel (their buffet dinner is pretty good on
Saturday nights) but unfortunately, there aren’t any photos today
because my digicam is out of service. Anyway, I’ve passed it on to a
camera repair shop just now, and I’m expecting to have it back by noon
tomorrow, so all is good. It does feel weird not to have a digicam
handy – all ready to take photos should the opportunity arise, but oh
well, it’s only for a day. πŸ™‚

Photo Friday – Angles

Photo Friday – Angles [photofriday.com]

Angles. This is a photo of Federation Square
[federationsquare.com.au], a relatively new structure filled with
angles located in the center of Melbourne (Australia) city. The picture
only shows a very small portion of the whole construct. The
construction of this large project was received with mixed responses
[theage.com.au]. It was officially opened on the 26th of October 2002,
but some features were not fully in place at that time. The most
memorable comment I heard about it was this taxi driver who said “Look at this ugly building. I don’t know what the fuck the government is thinking. It’s ruining the city.” One of my friends replied “Well, it does have a certain artistic quality to it…” and the driver made a “pfft” sound and said “I still think it’s terrible.
πŸ™‚ Personally, I like Federation Square, it’s unique and nicely built.
This has the potential of becoming an “icon” of Melbourne like Sydney’s
Opera House. There’s quite a bit of interesting features about it, the
official site is a good read if you’re interested. I took this photo
four days ago in an attempt to document Melbourne in photos before I
leave for good in two days. The weather was not optimal (drizzling +
misty) but the focus seems unaffected.

Hi, it’s me

I’ve been busy with assignments these few days (weeks?). Sleep
deprivation is fun. Watching the toilet bowl water do some fancy
fragment vector graphic effect before when you’re about to take a piss
is interesting indeed. Anyway, I still have some more assignments due
so here’s my (short) day in pictures:

Went to Caulfield to print and hand in one of my assignments. I saw this at the MONSU desk while binding the assignment:

freebatt.jpg

An assortment of free AA batteries in a box saying “Free batteries”.
Generics mostly, but there’s some Sony and Toshiba alkaline ones in
there too. Went to Coles after that to stock up on groceries. Of
course, when I say ‘groceries’, I really mean non essential food items.
=D

ttam198.jpg

Tim Tams are going for A$1.98 (usually A$2.57). The new batch has this promotion going on:

ttwish1.jpg

There’s a ticket inside with a nifty layer which you rub to reveal
what’s underneath. After a while, the dark layer forms again and hides
the underlying text. It’s like those novelty lighters with a dark
coating obscuring a model’s naughty bits until you apply heat to it.
Did I win?

ttwish2.jpg

Nope. It says “Second chance draw”. I can’t get a good picture coz the layer reforms really quickly.

Baker’s Delight @ Clayton

bakerdel.jpg

I went to campus early today to print out my stuff and hand it in. I
saw this new shop in Clayton, which was previously occupied by a store
selling fruit that closed down recently. Now, it’s a spiffy new bakery
called Baker’s Delight. It’s still not open yet, as you can see. There
are cleaners and other people inside setting things up. I didn’t even
see the bakery a couple of days ago so all this must have happened in
the last couple of days. Now there are three bakeries within 50 meters
of each other. Heh.

Chad is stoned…

I headed down to Chadstone today to do a bit of shopping. I wanted to cut
my hair too, but the prices at Chadstone “The Fashion Capital” ranges from
A$45 – A$75 and I couldn’t justify paying those prices. Especially not
when I pay around A$5 – A$10 for a haircut back home. =D I was going to
get

Contacting Aliens: An Illustrated Guide to David Brin’s Uplift Universe

[davidbrin.com] too, but the Borders at Chadstone did not carry it.
Hmm…one of the best things to eat in the food court is the lunch plate
of Sizzling Wok. I like having honey chicken and Mongolian beef. Their
Mongolian beef is really salty and their honey chicken is really sweet and
that combination tastes good. My thoughts are kinda foggy today, I’m still
feeling the flu. More of a runny nose and mental slowness today though.
Yeah…Well, anyway, I like
Lush.

The store smells really nice and I like the idea of huge block of soap
that you cut and wrap up yourself. They have
really
nice names
[lush.co.uk] for their soaps too. Their

bath ballistics
[lush.co.uk] looks fun to use, but unfortunately, I
don’t have a running bath. Oh well. I feel slow today.

South Yarra

I’ve had a pretty busy day today. Woke up early to meet with my Industrial Experience group
mates in South Yarra and worked on the assignment for a couple of hours. I went to Soda Rock after
that to have a late lunch. Soda Rock is a diner near Jam Factory in South Yarra. I’ve never been
there before though. The food is okay but the service is really good for a diner. It has an
authentic 40’s feel, and it looks like Pop’s Diner in the Archie comics to me. Anyway, I had to go
to the library after that so I went back to Clayton. I’m really sleepy now, so I think I’m not
making much sense anyway. I am going to go and die my small death.

View from the counter at Soda Rock. The ketchup says he’s happy.

Box Hill + The Glen

I only got a couple of hours of sleep last night before leaving for Box
Hill this morning with Christopher and Adrian. We ate at this place called
the 1228 Tea House.

The tea house has an interesting system. They have a stack of order papers
on each table with the table number. There is a pencil there too, and
you’re supposed to fill in the order sheet yourself and pass it to the
waitress. They have very generous portions as can be seen here.

Let me tell you, finishing that drink was quite a feat after the plate of
Taiwanese Chicken Fillet Rice.

Anyway, we went to the arcade after that and played the Ferrari F355
Challenge driving sim before heading to The Glen. It’s a shopping mall
near Glen Waverley which is about 15 minutes from my place. It was okay
but Chadstone is much bigger and covers a wider variety of interests too.
I did see this interesting machine where it draws a sketch of you based on
your picture. It’s like the photo sticker machines, but this one produces
a portrait instead of a sticker. I choose the “tough” caricature instead
of a normal portrait. Heh.

ph34r my artificially rendered double chin!

Well, it’s time for me to leave for WWE’s Global Warning Tour event. Woo!
I’m pretty tired because I didn’t get enough sleep last night, but I’ll
have 5 lattes or something to make up for it. =D

Dynasty Restaurant

I spent the afternoon making buttermilk pancakes with my girlfriend. It was those instant
pancakes in a container that you just add water to. They are pretty fun to make and tasted good
too. Anyway, I’m suffering from a bout of INDIGESTION today due to eating my KFC lunch too quickly.
I have already expelled the watery feces in the late afternoon and I’ve needed to vacate my bowels
two times since then. I had an…uh, accident too. You know how it’s hard to distinguish
between the need to fart and liquid feces pressure on your sphincter when you’re having a
stomachache? Yeah, that’s what happened. Luckily, I didn’t get any on my briefs, I managed to wipe
myself down in the toilet in time. =D

From left: Lawrence, Auntie, Louisa, me.

I went out for dinner with my girlfriend and her mom tonight at the Dynasty Restaurant in town.
Lawrence (my girlfriend’s brother) joined us halfway through. I’m heading back to Melbourne
tomorrow afternoon. Sigh…it’s always depressing to go back. I’m gonna miss my girlfriend.
