Tiger FC Fantasy Football League 2009 Updates!

tiger

I have been playing Tiger Fantasy League this season as a previous post indicated. Since then, the team is progressing really well, despite very little micromanagement during the week I was volunteering for charity work. I attribute that to a solid lineup selection in the starting stages. πŸ™‚

The Nuffnang mini-league (nuffleague) currently has 19 active players, 15 of which I am thrashing. I’m ranked at #4 with 118 points (a very auspicious number) with a global ranking position of 431.

nuffleague

Tiger Fantasy League also allows transfers during the football season:

out

I’m replacing Slyvain Distin, who’s the worst player in my team. He conceded 8 goals for crying out loud!

transfer

I’m taking in Lucas Neill from West Ham United instead. I’ve watched him play and he’s a bit of a dark horse that I’m betting on for Hull City v West Ham United on the 19th of October.

The transfer system is a very nifty feature as you don’t want to be stuck with your initial lineup if a player has injuries, red cards or other handicaps that would slow down your team’s progress. Likewise, if you have been eying a particular player who has been performing well during the season, this would be a good time to snap him up into your team.

ranking

I have been thwarted by KY, Geno FC and ShaolinTiger.com Team but the English Premier League is still far from over and I vow to exact my vengeance with the fury of Manchester City thrashing Portsmouth 6-0 last month.

Assimilation! Resistance is futile! πŸ˜‰

I never knew fantasy league could be this fun!

Team SixthSeal.com, FTW!

Tiger FC Fantasy League 2009

tiger fc

I would imagine that any red-blooded male would have played fantasy football at some point in their lives. It’s practically a religion over here with the Premier League, UEFA Cup, and World Cup as the Holy Trinity of sports. πŸ˜‰

I’ve seen the banner ads for Tiger FC Fantasy League for this season and signed up subversively at work. I have been nefariously building my team during office hours and it’s doing relatively well for this season.

Anyway, for people unfamiliar with the concept of fantasy football, it’s a game where you assemble a team based on real life players. The fun in this is that the scores you get are actually based on the real life performance of the players during that season. This is like building your dream team and watching how it plays out during the league. πŸ™‚

players

You can start playing anytime during the season and get ranked with other player’s teams. It’s quite fun and addictive even if you’re not a football fan since it’s like managing a football team. I’m sure some management skills can be gleaned from the game. πŸ˜‰

My current best player is Emmanuel Adebayor. My team (Team SixthSeal.com) has scored 7 goals and conceded 6 goals thus far. You get to transfer players at scheduled times and the first one that’s getting the boot (pun intended) from my team is John Terry. He’s not carrying his weight in the defender position. πŸ™

team

The Tiger FC Fantasy League also allows you to create a mini-league(s) to challenge other players. The Nuffnang bloggers are joining a league together – you can challenge our player lineup if you think you’re better than us. The login details are:

League Name: nuffleague
Password: tigerfc

The Tiger FC Fantasy League is surprisingly addictive. I’ve found myself checking the papers in the morning to see the scores and then logging on at work to see how my team is doing.

tiger

I’ve even taken to logging on with a Pocket PC while dining out just to check on how my team is doing.

You can get some of the action too by signing up. You think you’re better than Team SixthSeal.com? Prove it! πŸ˜‰

The key to juggling things in life
Being able to be happy and shine
To not get bogged down by strife
And be in a positive frame of mind

The art of balancing work and play
Or just to be happy in school today
Is to not let your thoughts stray
And take what life offers day by day

I wake up early every morning
Just to shower and get ready for work
It all seems a little bit boring
Especially with my manager being a jerk

When I’m feeling especially down
I take a break and log on to Compaq City
And in doing this I’ve found
Makes everything a little more pretty

I walk down Play Avenue
Just to meet up with the Compaq Stickman
Who’s always there for me in his red hue
I think I’m getting to be his biggest fan

A game or two on Work Street
Gets me through the dreary day
I think it’s my biggest treat
When I get high scores, hey!

I take a virtual stroll down Learn Boulevard
To answer the questions before time runs out
Being a graduate, I didn’t think it was that hard
But the questions sometimes make me pout

I like the Compaq range of product
And in fact I own one myself too
My Presario notebook is on till it gets dark
I only shut it down when it’s one or two

It has never given me a problem
And I don’t think it will give you any too

And I’m not just saying that coz they told me to

My Compaq and me are pretty tight
It’s affordable and it looks mighty fine

The Mysterious Slurpee

mystery

7Eleven has come out with two new Mystery flavors for their Slurpee machine. Intrigued by this enigmatic campaign, the detective in me (who has read one too many mystery novels in my youth) decided that a quick trip down to 7Eleven was warranted to solve this mystery.

mystery poster

The trip involved planes, trains and automobiles (technically, since I was in KL at that time) and I arrived at 7Eleven to find out more about the two new Mystery flavors. ??? were abounding and they needed answering.

sleuth

I decided to look into Mystery Flavor 2 while my dear Watson, I mean, Irene went for Mystery Flavor 1.

mystery slurpee

Elementary, my dear Irene!

mystery 1

Mystery Flavor 1 tastes like a grape based Slurpee, which Irene preferred. It has an almost blackcurrant aftertaste and although I can’t identify the exact flavor of this mystery Slurpee, my taste buds tells me it has a hint of citrus as well.

mystery 2

Mystery Flavor 2 tastes like a mango based Slurpee. I liked this one better. It reminds me of the Slurpee I had in the very same 7Eleven outlet that saved me from a moribund state after a particularly dehydrating episode of partying. πŸ˜‰

poison

One man’s meat is another man’s (or woman’s) poison.

vote

Vote for the flavor you like best. I’m going for Mystery Flavor 2.

mysteries

The two new Mystery flavors is a very interesting marketing campaign by 7Eleven. I don’t even know what the flavors really are! However, the thirst quenching qualities of the 7Eleven Slurpee is still present in abundance. You should check it out if you haven’t had a Slurpee before and if you’re a regular imbiber, the new flavors are definitely worth looking into.

ending

The 7Eleven Mystery Flavor 1 and 2 Slurpee is out now in all outlets and there will be a contest running during the promotional period up till the 5th of October, 2008. Slurpee users are encouraged participate and vote for their favorite mystery flavor amongst the two varieties.

The contest forms are available at all participating 7Eleven outlets and the winners will be selected from the winning pool with the highest purchase and correct answers (there are two very easy questions). You have to mail in the contest form with the Slurpee receipt.

Find out more about the contest here.

Guess what the prizes are? 1,000 mystery prizes.

Yup, you read that right. Even the prizes are a Mystery. πŸ˜‰

LG Scarlet – The Saga Continues

scarlet

I’ve always wanted to do three things before I kicked the bucket – write a book, travel the world and direct a movie. I haven’t got the chance to do the first two but the last one is finally within my reach. I don’t even have to purchase a high quality video recorder, rent an expensive studio or deal with actors overdosing and dying on me before the voice overlay is done. πŸ˜‰

Wardrobe malfunctions are minimized and temper tantrums avoided. It’s pure fun!

LG Scarlet is running an online contest where you get to direct your own video. The action sequences and adrenaline pumping music in the LG Scarlet video is amazing to work with. You can customize it by adding snap scenes and your own captions and it’s very user friendly.

The contest will be run for four (4) consecutive weeks and there will be a weekly prize for the Director that accumulates the most votes. There will also be a grand prize at the end of the contest.

If you’re not interested in being a Director, there is also a concurrent contest for being a Fan. The Fan wins by having the highest number of successful virals. A viral is defined as a vote garnered (gained in plain English – I just use garner coz the LG Scarlet movie reminds me of Alias) from that particular Fan’s video promo link.

I have tried to decipher that statement and it just means that you basically promote the video you like either via your blog or email and you get an extra vote for every registered user that votes for that particular video link. The more registered users you get, the higher your chances of winning.

There will be a weekly and grand prize for both Fans and Directors. The weekly prize is a Hi-Fi Micro FB163 for every week of the four week campaign and the grand prize is a 37″ LG Scarlet LCD TV!

direct

Now, you can finally be the director of a video without learning to use video editing software with more buttons and menu items than you can shake a stick at.

I’m registered under sixthseal.com as a Director and you can vote for my video at the LG Scarlet site. I’m planning a vote buying campaign where I pay RM 1 for every person that votes for me. Terms and conditions apply.

Terms and Conditions:
RM 1 will be sent via snail mail for every valid registered user who votes for me.
This vote buying campaign is only open to Malaysian residents.
Please send a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope) with an RM 1 note in it for processing fees. πŸ˜‰

All kidding aside, head on to the LG Scarlet website to register as either a Director or a Fan and participate in the contest. This is one of the most interesting Internet viral marketing strategies I’ve seen – my hats off to the people at LG.

Calling all armchair/office chair directors! Here’s your chance to Shine (reference intended). πŸ˜‰

Heineken Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 Malaysia Contest Winners

winners

The submissions for the contest to win a ticket to the Chelsea match on the 29th of July 2008 and the included pass to the Heineken House has been carefully harvested, measured, sieved, filtered, marinated and roasted to perfection. The fermentation process was a little on the lengthy side, my apologies about that, but here are the winners:

Suresh Krishnan-Dass
017-700XXXX
You’re the very first person to get BOTH of the bonus questions right, which is amazing due to the admittedly vague nature of the photos. Kudos for that! You just won a ticket to the match and the included invite to the Heineken House.

Elaine
016-202XXXX
The Blur Queen also managed to get both the bonus questions right. Respect! You’re the second one to do so, congratulations! πŸ™‚

Melvin Raj
016-371XXXX
Melvin also got both of the bonus questions right, with the additional information that the firm was originally known as the Chelsea Shed Boys. Cheers!

Nurvia Ooi
012-395XXXX
Nurvia won by pure virtue of speed. The email was the first one in that had all the questions answered correctly. First post award. Congratulations!

Shakira
016-354XXXX
This one takes the cake in pure effort and length. She wrote a very lengthy email with educated guesses of the possible answers to the bonus questions. An except:
picture two:
you are standing. the clue is firm.. standing firm? or are you talking about a football firm?

answer:
1. Lampard stays firm in Chelsea as I have just read in the newsletter…
2. Chelsea Headhunters, the firm where people formed with the intent to engage in fights and inflict pain with members of firms from other clubs. Riot! Sound like a bit of fun :] I know in 2006 that 2 players received death threats from the Headhunters. I will wikipedia that later to see what I can find.

congrats

Congratulations to all the five winners! You each get one (1) ticket to the Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 match at Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 8:45 PM on the 29th of July, 2008 and one (1) invite to the Heineken House courtesy of Heineken, the sponsor of the contest.

The answer to the first bonus question is The Rising Sun pub where Chelsea was founded (thus the hint “Origin”). The second bonus question with the hint “Firm” refers to Chelsea Headhunters – the football firm of Chelsea.

blind

Judges decisions are final and based on purely unscientific qualitative standards. πŸ˜‰

Thank you all for participating and I’ll be calling the winners to verify their attendance. I want to ensure that all the winners can go, so should any one of them be unable to make it, the ticket and pass will be given to another submission selected at random* with priority given to the first few people who emailed me with the correct answers.

chelsea

Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Joe Cole are all coming for the friendly match against Malaysia. Be at the Shah Alam Stadium on the 29th of July to watch Chelsea play against our national team!

*Fine Print (TM): You have to answer the phone within 6 rings coz I really don’t want to be on the phone the whole day. πŸ˜‰

Nike Project Lightweight Design Competition

thinking

Have you ever wanted to be a designer for Nike? Here’s your chance! Project Lightweight is a contest initiated by Nike for talented young student designers. Lighter, stronger, and faster is the Nike design philosophy and this initiative is open to all college and university students to design a future lightweight product for athletes.

possibilities

Nike is encouraging aspiring designers from all disciplines to participate in the contest. You just need to design any product (not just footwear, but apparel etc) for any sport. Project Lightweight is encouraging futuristic designs for a new lightweight product – your imagination is the only limit here.

fusion

The best thing about this contest is that entries are not just limited to a specific medium such as film, art, installation, or product. In fact, complete freedom of design is encouraged! Each entry must be accompanied by a description of the design (limited to 200 words). You can even email a consulting expert at projectlightweight@email-nike.com.my to seek advice or ask any questions.

design

I know what I’ll like to see – a Nike shoe that is lightweight, breathable (but water repellent for those rainy days) with a Bluetooth connection AND a kinetic or piezoelectric energy harvesting system that can power not just the Bluetooth interface chip, but an iPod or cell phone as well. I don’t know how that can be achieved, but hey, think out of the box and all that.

“You run like a girl!”
“My grandmother can run faster than you!”
Have you ever been taunted before? Hopefully, with the latest products coming out of the Project Lightweight contest, we won’t have to put up with those insults anymore…coz we’ll all be running on lightweight footwear! πŸ™‚

That’s the beauty about the Project Lightweight design competition – it’s meant to showcase YOUR point of view. YOU get to decide on what a lightweight footwear (or apparel) should be like and submit your entries to the Project Lightweight website. Calling all aspiring designers of all disciplines. The future is yours!

ready

Ready? Set. Go!

Go forth, and create history!

security

(and design a lightweight pair of trainers so I can outrun mall security next time)

Project Lightweight is offering a grand prize of an all expenses paid trip to Nike’s World Headquarters in Oregon, USA. The winner would not just get a chance to tour the grounds (which is called The Campus, much like Microsoft’s headquarters) but will also have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the “Kitchen”, where the top designers of Nike brainstorm and design new products.

You’ll also get the chance to meet and pick the brains of Nike’s legendary design team!

Project Lightweight Design Competition
The competition allows participants to design any product (e.g. footwear, apparel etc), and they are not limited to any particular sport. All submissions must be made between 1 – 31 July on the Project Lightweight website www.nike.com.my/projectlightweight.

For more information, log onto www.nike.com.my/projectlightweight for full details on how to enter, participation requirements, submission details and other terms and conditions.

Oreo Twist Lick Dunk

oreo

Oreo is the world’s favorite biscuit and the famous cream filled chocolate sandwich cookies have been “emulated”, shall we say, by a lot of local biscuits manufacturers. Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all that aside, nothing beats the original Oreo in taste – the others lag a very distant second, and most of them are quite…well, crappy to be honest.

I’m a big fan of Oreo cookies and have been known to single-handedly consume several tubes of the stuff when I have the munchies back in Australia. I have committed most of the 7 Deadly Sins, gluttony being no exception, and the method I use to eat it is to stuff several of the cookies into my mouth and wash it down with milk. I know, I’m an animal. πŸ˜‰

oreo milo

Oreo has been emphasizing on the Twist Lick Dunk methodology as the proper method of eating Oreo cookies and I have been learning to eat Oreo biscuits with the latest decree. I won’t say that it tastes better this way, since I still prefer the stuff-my-mouth-full-of-Oreo-cookies-and-wash-down-with-milk consumption angle, but at least I’m not packing on the pounds by eating Oreo cookies one by one.

shoplifting

What would you do for an Oreo cookie?

little sister

The sharable Oreo tube packing also allows for easily portability when out window shopping with your little sister.

ot

Oreo is the perfect snack for those OT sessions. You don’t actually have to stop working, and it can be passed around easily for cubicle slaves like us. It won’t even make your hands sticky, unlike some other chocolate biscuits.

byo dessert

BYO dessert. The petrol price hike is affecting everyone. Instead of complaining about it, certain cost cutting measures can be taken to maintain the same quality of life. With the constant global increase in fuel prices, we may stand witness to a trend of diners bringing their own Oreo cookies to share with friends after dinner. πŸ˜‰

loved one

Oreo memories – Sharing a pack of Oreo sandwich cookies over a mug of hot Milo on a rainy Saturday afternoon with a loved one.

rat

This being the Year of the Rat and all, I figured the happy rodent should get his fair share of The Good Stuff. Sharing is caring.

Oreo Twist Lick Dunk

You will need:
Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies
Milk

oreo doublestuf

Step 1: Take one (1) Oreo cookie. I prefer the Oreo DoubleStuf filling.

twist

Step 2: Twist the cookie by holding on to both ends while applying pressure in a clockwise direction. This separates one cookie from the other, with the filling sticking on to one side. I love this bit about Oreo cookies. It doesn’t disintegrate, it doesn’t have half the filling sticking to both sides, and it just twists to form a perfect plain cookie on one side and a cookie with TWICE the filling on the other.

lick

Step 3: Lick the cream stuffing on the side with the creamy filling. You can either then reassemble the cookie or just dunk the other (or both) ends.

dunk

Step 4: Dunking is not just for donuts. You can dunk Oreo cookies in cold milk too. The proper time required for the dunking varies according to personal preference but generally, it should be saturated with milk, but not too soggy.

consume

Step 5: Consume the dunked Oreo. The best thing about Oreo cookies is that it allows for a large margin of error in the dunking process. The Oreo won’t completely disintegrate (unless you zone out for an hour, and I’m not even sure it will disintegrate then) even if you dunk it in for longer than you anticipated.

drink

Step 6: Wash down with milk. I just can’t get over this habit. I’m sorry, I know it’s not in the official Oreo Bible as part of orthodox dogma but I just like doing it.

Oreo – Twist and Dunk Video Guide
This is a video guide for the readers who prefer to watch rather than appreciate the written word. πŸ˜‰

Oreo is indeed a world favorite and very versatile biscuit to boot. It’s also available as wafer rolls and with double fillings like Peanut Butter & Chocolate Cream. Mmm…

Contest: Five (5) FREE tickets to see Chelsea FC Live in KL

Chelsea Asia Tour 2008
Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 Malaysia

Chelsea is going on a tour around Asia and they’re scheduled to perform at the Shah Alam Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 8:45 PM on the 29th of July, 2008. Heineken is sponsoring five (5) free tickets to watch Chelsea LIVE and I’m going to give them away to the first five people who gets the answers to the five questions below correctly.

The winners will also get an exclusive invitation to Heineken House, a hospitality tent where only invited people can attend. The hospitality area includes light finger food, good music and good company. Also present is the opportunity to win some autographed merchandise.

Chelsea Football Club (also known as The Blues, due to their colors) is probably the second most recognizable English Premier League team. They’ve spent most of their history playing in the Premier League and I’ve had considerable success betting for this team in the UEFA Champions League in 2000. πŸ˜‰

chelsea crest

Chelsea FC was founded in 1905 and has thus been around for more than a century, much like Heineken. Their official crest features a blue lion looking backwards and holding a staff. Their home colors are blue but their official away colors will probably be a shade they call “electric yellow” when they play in the Shah Alam Stadium later this month.

Chelsea is a team to watch out for, having ranked the highest in the UEFA coefficient ranking system after the 2007/2008 season. I tend to root for the underdog so I’m always pro-Chelsea instead of Manchester United, which has become rather commercialized as of late.

Chelsea is also noted for football hooliganism during the 1970’s and the 1980’s and the “Chelsea grin” which I first came upon while watching the movie Green Street. My favorite line from that movie was “Do you take…American Express?” before the GSE (a fictitious football firm) jumped in to save the day. I love that film and highly recommend it to everyone who’s interested in movies.

Chelsea is coming to Malaysia to play against a Malaysian lineup in a friendly match for the Malaysian leg of the Chelsea Asia Tour 2008. RM 50 says Chelsea would win, Asian handicap of 1 goal to Chelsea. Any takers? πŸ˜‰

camwhore

Heineken is Chelsea’s official beer and it’s one of my favorite lagers. It’s a standard 5% alcohol content beer and the interesting history behind the beer is the development of Heineken A-yeast for the fermentation process by Dr. H. Elion in 1886. The good doctor was a student of Louis Pasteur, the very same man who made pasteurization a household word.

This beer has been around for over 100 years and in the good old days of football in England, beer is drunk before, during and after a game. I’m a big fan of Heineken myself and the best I could do is drink it during…

lunch

…lunch,

dinner

and dinner. Heineken is pretty much a common name in Malaysia, having established themselves as a brand to be reckoned with. Most people would associate a foreign beer with Heineken. It’s kinda like the Malaysian brand name association:

When you have a headache, you take? Panadol
When you want instant noodles, you eat? Maggi
When you order beer, you ask for? Heineken

Contest for five (5) free tickets to watch Chelsea during the Chelsea Asia Tour 2008 Malaysia and the included invite to the Heineken House.
