Ipanema

ipanema

Ipanema is one of the latest watering holes in Kuching. It’s located at Padungan Road (beside SOHO) at the place that used to be Tom’s. Irene and David has been hanging out here as of late and I went to check the place out on Saturday night.

ipanema interior

Ipanema is named after the beach in Brazil and the place is pretty chill – it attracts a more sophisticated crowd compared to the surrounding nightspots.

kilkenny draught

The place even has Kilkenny on draught. I (heart) Kilkenny! =D

ipanema bartender

Ipanema has an extensive selection of cocktails as well. I tend to judge a bar/pub by the quality and variety of the cocktails they have. It’s important to have a bartender who can mix a good cocktail.

pina colada

Phoenix had a Pina Colada (RM 22) which is made with Malibu (the coconut liqueur), pineapple juice, fresh cream and crushed ice. It tasted pretty good. I love a place with good cocktails.

kilkenny

I went for a pint of Kilkenny (RM 28). Ipanema has the popular Irish beer on draught (!) which I fell in love with ever since I first got a taste of the creamy ale back in Australia.

ipanema girl

There are girls selling Dunhill premium brand cigarettes like Dunhill 360 and Dunhill Top Leaf (also available at your local 7-11) inside. I don’t know if they’re promoters going through the Saturday night crowd at the nightspot but I took the opportunity for a photo op anyway.

ipanema group

I think we hit the ethanol products a little too hard that Saturday night coz we nearly missed the shuttle to Batang Ai Hilton Longhouse Resort due to an alcohol induced coma.

P/S – My apologies…the bartender must have had a case of the shakes while taking our group photo coz there’s a motion blur effect on Phoenix (my travel companion). It didn’t affect the rest of the frame though, strangely enough. πŸ˜‰

Mojo

mojo

I went clubbing with Phoenix (not her real name) and Irene plus her companion on Saturday night. We went bar hopping and ended up in Mojo, Ipenema and SOHO. I was only staying the night and Irene picked us up at around 10:30 pm coz I really wanted to hit the night scene in Kuching again considering I haven’t been here for a while.

mojo bar

The bar area was pretty much as I remembered it…

mojo tv

…but there’s now a huge plasma TV screen for the people who would go into massive withdrawals from missing the all important EPL (English Premier League) soccer matches during their night out. πŸ˜‰

mojo interior

Mojo was absolutely packed that night – it felt like I was squeezing into a sardine can. There was a lone empty table and we promptly sat down on it. It didn’t cross my mind that the table wouldn’t be empty with the crowd magnitude without a reason. =D

gerald

It was actually reserved by Gerald, the owner of Mojo. I haven’t seen him for ages – not since I left Kuching. He kindly let us have the table for the night.

mojo drinks

We ordered a bottle of vino and had a good time reminiscing about the good old days…

mojo us

Phoenix is my traveling companion for the Kuching – Batang Ai Hilton Longhouse Resort this long weekend. I’m quite certain there’s something wrong with my digicam coz in every photo we take of this mysterious travel companion, the lens flare seems to mess up the details of her countenance. πŸ˜‰

Sex on the Luconia

luconia cafe

I went to Luconia Cafe last night to meet up with
Valerine to get my tickets to go back to Sibu tonight. Luconia Cafe is
a local watering hole near my place (shit, I probably shouldn’t be
revealing so many details :p) and it’s a great place to have a couple
of drinks.

luconia entrance

Luconia Cafe only serves alcoholic beverages (although they do have
some non-alcoholic drinks as well) and the food is subbed to the next
door cafe – Thyme’s, which I’ve reviewed in a previous post on
sixthseal.com.

luconia interior

The interior of Luconia Cafe mainly consists of leather chill out
chairs with pull over seats and I went there at about 8 pm last night. Irene [blogspot.com] called me up and asked where I was and she came over with Tiffany [blogspot.com]. Valerine and her friends Ivy (also from Sibu!) and Monica also came in soon after that.

sex on the luconia

I had Sex on the Luconia (RM 18) a cocktail derived
from Sex on the Beach with a strong hint of Malibu (the coconut
liquor). I met Daphne with her friends there too and I tried to
maintain a normal conversation with her, but apparently failed due to
my lack of sobriety. She was there with her co-workers from 1st Silicon. Check at Cirillas gummy teeth covers.

luconia group

This is a group shot of us at Luconia – Irene & Co. didn’t know
Valerine & Co. but introductions were made and topics of discussion
ranged from tattoos and clubbing. I also realized with much abashment
that all the while I’ve been calling Valerine “Valerie” and I was
corrected several times for calling MC3 “em-cee-three” instead of
“em-cee-cubed”. :p

luconia valerine tattoo

This is Valeri(n)e’s tattoo – it has a great intense eye motif and she’s going to add angel’s wings to it.

luconia irene tattoo

This is Irene’s tattoos – I love the “fallen angel” theme on her left shoulder.

Valerine and her friends left for MC3 (em-cee-CUBED) at around 10 pm
and since I didn’t plan to go clubbing, I decided to stay and Irene
introduced me to her friends from Inti:

luconia cigarette

It’s just a cigarette, btw. Honest.

We went back to Luconia after sharing the cigarette in the corridor
beside the place (coz Luconia is…er, strictly non-smoking) and
ordered another round of drinks and had some classic *cough* inspired conversations. It was surreal.

It was fun. πŸ™‚

MC3 club @ Travillion, Kuching

mc3 zen

MC3 is the latest club that opened up in Kuching in the new Travillion mall at Padungan. It’s located above Zen
and it seems to be the most popular place to go clubbing in Kuching. I
went to MC3 three nights in a row (it’s named MC 3, after all). πŸ˜‰

mc3 club

The place has a nice decor and a great sound system (love the bass)
with more lasers and other light displays than you can shake a stick
at. The place had a great turnout on Friday night and it was absolutely
packed on Saturday night.

mc3 sunday

The Halloween Party last night (Sunday night) was mostly comprised
of regulars coz it’s a Sunday night after all. I can’t believe I went
there three nights in a row, I was actually pretty fucked by the second
night (due to the comedown) but I went again the next night and last
night. Jesus…

mc3 dance floor

MC3 club plays a variety of dance music but I love the hard trance
they were putting on for the Halloween Party last night. The bass was
so strong; I could feel the air inside balloons reverberating to the
beat, which I found to be highly entertaining and novel for some reason.

I just did a cerebral systems diagnostics and it told me that I will
not be able to continue writing in a lucid manner, so here’s the long
weekend at MC3 club, Kuching in photos:

mc3 ericka me

Ericka and me (she brought me to MC3 three nights in a row, that’s how hardcore she is).

mc3 depth charges

This is me and Lucas doing several depth charges with beer and a
shot of Chivas in a row on a Friday night (I work Saturdays) while May
Kee looks on. I know you threw up first Lucas. πŸ˜‰

mc3 sebastian ericka

This is Sebastian and Ericka on Saturday night. Sebastian is a model – bit of trivia here.

mc3 john me

Here’s a photo of me molesting John [blogspot.com], my favorite Scorpio guy, on Saturday night.

mc3 valerie me

This is Valerie, which I’m sure you’re all acquainted with in one of
the previous posts on sixthseal.com – I bumped into her there on Friday
night and again on Sunday night (that’s last night).

Happy Halloween!

MC3 is a great place for clubbing in Kuching – it’s not as
pretentious as some other clubs and there’s a chill out place
downstairs – Zen, which is operated by the same management.

Cock and Bull in bed

bed club

bed is the latest clubbing district in Kota
Kinabalu, Sabah. It is located at the waterfront and shares its block
with other illustrious clubs and pubs like Nam Kwai Fong (a Cantopop feng tau joint) and Cock and Bull (a pub with draft beer that has a high expatriate and traveler audience).

bed multiple floors

The flagship of this new nightlife neighborhood is the recently built bed club.
The bright neon sign of this simple, yet elegant name is emblazoned
across the building which houses the club. bed is a large club with
multiple floors and areas and it impressed me that KK has this sort of
facility.

bed dance floor

We went to bed (the club, not the act) on Saturday night to cap off
our Kota Kinabalu trip with a visit to the entertainment facilities
that the place has to offer. The bouncer at the door opened the door
for us and we were instantly greeted by a huge dance floor located in
the middle of the club. bed has state of the art sound systems and
light displays.

bed bed room

The VIP room is appropriately named the “bed room”. I had guessed that before we had even stepped into the club. πŸ˜‰

bed bar area

There is also a long bar and seating arrangements for people who’re not into the dance floor or wants to chill out.

cock and bull

The next destination we headed to is Cock & Bull
(after dropping into Nam Kwai Fong for a while). This is a pub with a
live band and draft beer and all sorts of amenities that you would
expect a pub to have. It’s located right after bed and Nam Kwai Fong
and probably is meant as an after party destination after the two clubs
close.

cock and bull draft

It was about 1 am when we arrived at Cock and Bull and we stayed
there till about 3 am. There are two kinds of draft beer on tap (Tiger
Beer and Guinness Stout) and we ordered a jug of Tiger Beer.

cock and bull cocktail

I also had their signature cocktail – Cock and Bull (RM 38). It’s a blue hued cocktail with a slice of lemon and has a pretty high alcoholic content. It tastes great!

cock and bull pool

Cock & Bull also has a pool table where you can practice your inebriated pool shooting skills…

cock and bull waitresses

Talk with one of the friendly Cock and Bull waitresses…

cock and bull band

Listen to the resident live band perform cover songs…

cock and bull puke

Watch low alcohol tolerance people puke and moan while slumped on one of the outside tables…

cock and bull goggles

Put on your beer goggles for a bit…

cock and bull more beer

…and maybe order another round of drinks.

cock and bull relax

It’s a great place to wind down for the night. πŸ™‚

NYE ’04 @ Harbor

nye04 harbor

Here’s a late report of my New Year’s Eve 2004 celebration. We went
to a lot of places, which were full and finally settled for Harbor.

Download: NYE ’04 [sixthseal.com]

nye04

The place was packed as well, but the atmosphere was great. Whole
bunch of party animals there and someone brought along some industrial
grade fireworks and set it off right in front of the club…in the
middle of the road. Heh!

nye04 wasted

It was crazy, and I got so wasted I took two days to recover. :p

Anyway, I’m leaving for Miri on a business trip tomorrow. I’ll be doing a presentation, wish me luck!

Passionate Mermaid causes Earthquake

equake saturday nite

I went out with my old buddies during the weekend. William, whom I
got to know during my days in New Zealand, was back for the holidays
and we decided to open a bottle of Chivas (I wanted Hennessy Pure
White, but they didn’t carry it, so we settled for good ol Chivas) at
Earthquake.

chivas equake

Earthquake already had the pre-Christmas decorations up and like
most Saturday nights, it was packed. Here’s a video clip of Earthquake
on Saturday night:

equake prex

Download: Earthquake, Pre Xmas [sixthseal.com]

I was already on 14 mg of clonazepam and 300 mg of dihydrocodeine so
I was a little not-quite-there by the time we hit our first
destination. Nevertheless, I had the lion’s share of the Chivas which
made me rather un-sober. I also discovered that mixing Chivas with
Yeo’s Jasmine Green Tea tastes wonderful.

chivas green equake

Well, needless to say, I was pretty much gone under that three
sedative combo when we adjourned to Mermaid. I only remember having a
couple of beers before some police came in, so we moved again to
Passion.

passion post sapu

Passion was empty since a sapu operation has already hit it
earlier during the night (or morning, rather). It was pretty much empty
when we reached there at 3 am. Here’s a video clip of Passion, one of
the two big feng tau places in Kuching:

passion empty

Download: Passion, Post Sapu [sixthseal.com]

Passion’s DJ still had the bass going strong and some of our group
(which grew larger as we met more people in Mermaid) decided to take
*cough*. The rationale goes like this: “Lightning never strikes twice
at the same place” so since Passion has already been raided, it was
safe by default. It was nearly 5 am when I got home. It’s been a while
since I’ve gone for a big night out. It’s good. πŸ™‚

Atlantis, Kuching

atlantis kuching

This is Atlantis in Kuching. Atlantis is located below Junkyard.
It’s billed as a “music cafe” but it’s more like the homogenized
pub/disco/lounge/club with a pool table and TV set unholy
conglomerations that have proliferated in this part of the country.

atlantis interior

We were there on Saturday night, drinking Chivas and beer – it’s
someone’s birthday, but it seems like there’s one every weekend so I
don’t know whose it is. πŸ˜‰ Here’s another shot…

…and a video clip.

Serotonin depletion…but it’s worth it. More on that later.

Mild Seven PitParty 2004

mermaid music cafe

Our entourage of about 15 people attended this event – the Mild
Seven Pit Party 2004 at Mermaid Music Cafe, which is organized to
broadcast the Renault F1 team finals live. The event is invitation
only; the tickets were obtained through one of my friends who works
with JT Tobacco (which has Mild Seven, Salem and Winston amongst other
brands under its banner).

door check

The Mild Seven Brand Ambassadors (an euphemism for
customer/public relations) were out in full force – mostly local girls.
We had a tag around our wrists upon entry. I was told that they get RM
200 for 4 hours – not bad pay at all…heck, it’s more than my hourly
salary. πŸ™‚ One of them is a friend of a friend and she told us that
they have quotas to fill – we helped her out, I bought two limited
edition Mild Seven Renault F1 Team promotional packs.

mild seven limited edition

It costs RM 10 each – cheaper than the retail price of RM 5.40 per
pack, plus you get a free drinks coupon with each purchase. It’s a pity
I’m a Marlboro smoker, but it was good to get these for my collection
anyway. Anyway, we got a free drink redemption coupon (valid for beer
only, not distilled liquor) upon entry…however, there was a little
loophole that gave us free flow liquor. πŸ˜‰

mild seven pit party pic

Basically…there were a couple of BA’s (Brand Ambassadors) going
around, asking if we have got a drinks coupon, when they saw a can of
this limited edition pack on our table. The correct answer is “No”. πŸ˜‰
I got four drink coupons for each can, instead of one – that gives me
eight drinks (not including the jugs of beer that my friend shouted),
plus JT Tobacco gave each table a free jug of beer, so I was less than
sober by the end of the night, considering I pound my beers instead of
sipping them.

Here’s a couple of shots of the BA’s before I continue my post, just to keep the interest of the male population out there:

brand ambassador friend
I forgot her name, she’s a friend of a friend.

mild seven ba first
I didn’t get the name of this one either…

mild seven ba smile oy
I took six (!) photos with this one, and she was smiling, but never did
manage to capture it on the shot, and I gave up after six tries…

mild seven ba friend full
This is the same one from photo #1.

Anyway, there were also two simulation F1 cars for entertainment:

f1 sim cars

I went for a spin on one of them…didn’t keep my attention for long
though, and if my performance on that track is anything to judge my
sobriety by, I’m glad I wasn’t the designated driver tonight. πŸ˜‰

sim machines

Here’s a first person perspective of the simulator:

fps sim

There were other contests as well, but the night was a blur to be honest…the two that I remember was:

mild seven limbo
Limbo contest – two jugs of beer on the house for everyone who gets through, one jar paid to the house for failed attempts.

contest vrrroomm
The contest where they got people to emulate the F1 engine sound.

There was also (terrible) food supplied for the patrons. I could barely choke down my plate.

pit party food

Here are more shots of the Mild Seven Brand Ambassadors:

mild seven ba friend
It’s hard to track who is who after a while…

mild seven ba smile smile
It’s very bizarre, I took about 10 (some were shots of her with my
friends), but never could capture her smiling on the photo, even though
she did IRL.

…and here’s a video from the night:

mild seven f1

The person with the impaired auditory function that was singing in a
generally unacceptably loud volume (not that anyone cared, since most
of the patrons were not sober) would be me, I’m afraid. My apologies. :p

This is a partial group shot of our entourage:

pit party partial group
I’m the only XY chromosome in the photo, so I don’t need to point out which one is me. I’m wearing the Mild Seven polo T-shirt.

me ah girl
This is a shot of me and Ah Girl, we came together.

It was a fun night, I haven’t had an ethanol fuelled debauchery (the
tame kind) night out in quite a while, and I thoroughly enjoyed this
one. It’s a pity it was a Sunday night instead of a Saturday night.

Sapu days

sapudays

Those dreaded Fridays and Saturdays…also known as Sapudays. I hate them!

Sapu is the colloquial term for police drug raids at entertainment venues.

99 kuching

The night started out at 99. It was packed and pretty uneventful.

99 may 16

Some people had some pills (not me, of course *cough*).

waterworld closed

We headed down to Waterworld and found that it was closed. This is a bad omen.

earthquake may 16

We adjourned to Earthquake. This venue is usually packed during the weekends but was surprisingly empty for a Saturday night.

equake may 16

Our group sat there for a while before one of the Earthquake staff
(we know them) whispered to us that there are sapu vans outside. Time
to leave? The first photo was taken there – it’s one of the sapu vans,
there were 2 police trucks preceding that, but I didn’t get a photo and
I don’t want to get too close anyway for obvious reasons. It turns out
the police was just scoping out the area – staring at the patrons, most
of which started leaving in droves. The place was soon empty.
Earthquake didn’t get raided (coz it was empty) but since there was no
one there anyway, we left.

passion closed

We went to Passion at 4 1/2 mile. It was closed early too (it was
just 3 AM when we got there). It seems that Kuching is the target of
the inaugural drug raids at entertainment venues again. *sigh*

We tried the MJC outlets, but all of them were closed too. News of
raids spreads fast and no chemical brother would want to be in one of
them when the police barges in, except foolhardy ones. πŸ˜‰ We saw three
sapu trucks filled with people while on the way back…now that’s a
really bad omen, so we decided to call it a night.

Orange blanks pill review

orange blank

Pill name: Orange blanks
Contents: Tested out to be MDMA
Circa: February – May 2004
Rating: 7/10

It’s a relatively strong MDMA pill. It has no logo or imprints
whatsoever – people just ask for it by name (i.e. the orange pill).
It’s quite nice, if you like MDMA…but MDMA has lost its magic for me.
I did feel classic MDMA characteristics, but I’ll go for crystal
methamphetamine or ketamine any day. MDMA just doesn’t feel good to me
anymore. Such is the life of a tweaker…nothing beats good old crystal
meth.
