3 random things I haven’t blogged about

1. Sea jacuzzi photo in Sin Chew

I just found out about this last week from Twitter. Thanks Jessy! It’s an article about my last trip to Langkawi. I’m the one with the red phoenix tattoo on my chest, holding on to the net with one hand. Heh.

The link above to the post is in Chinese, which I can’t read, so I used the auto-translate feature in Chrome – it’s about the trip, the sea jacuzzi was fun, going to post about that sometime. :)

2. Full 30 minute interview video on Bernama Radio24

I was on Bernama Radio24 to speak on “The Lounge” a couple of months ago – I posted about my interview on radio before but I didn’t have the link to the YouTube video. You can see the entire 30+ minute radio interview below if you missed it the first time round.

It also shows the inside of the studio and me and Gerald’s expressions and gestures – it’s for an hour long talk show segment, this is the entire almost 40 minute interview, the rest of the time are filled with songs and such. Thanks for the link Junsern! :)

3. NuffnangX

I was at the launch of NuffnangX Malaysia and have been using the beta of NuffnangX before it was released. Interesting concept, it makes reading blogs on a smartphone so much easier, as I found out one day when I was waiting for the laundry to open in my car. Heh.

nuffnangx

That’s a customized USB drive made to look like a business card with a personalized “sixthseal.com” stamped on it with the beta version inside. I love collecting USB drives, this is one of my more unique ones.

Follow me on NuffnangX! :)

That’s a wrap for media related news. Have an awesome weekend everyone!

I actually replied the interview questions some days ago but didn’t
even have time to post it up until now. My apologies for the sporadic
updates, it’s like work come back sleep repeat. Thank God it’s Friday
tomorrow.

1. Alright, tell us how the hell you got to know someone like Veritas?

I’ve known him for ages…I don’t choose certain types of people to
hang out with, but I do tend to gravitate towards recreational drug
users and what people would call Ah Bengs because I don’t enjoy the
company of pretentious people. I’ve mentioned this before, I don’t like
to dress up and sit down at some yuppie bar and try and look cool and
pick up chicks. That is not my scene. I noticed that even though
society brands these subcultures as “bad”, on a personal level, the
company is much more enjoyable than the pretentious people, these are
the people who go all out and have fun. =D

The above paragraph is full of assumptions and sweeping statements
though, so take it as you will. The main reason is because we share key
interests – pharmacology, photography and traveling. I feel like I’ve
know him all my life.

2. How do you separate yourself from Veritas, as in, don’t you get urges to become like him?

This is a somewhat strange question to answer. I can honestly say
that I don’t have any urges to become like him, because I don’t need
to. I’m not living voraciously by proxy, if that’s what the question is
about. I don’t think we have any identity crisis issues, we know who we
are and what we are, so no one gets any urges to be anyone else. :)
There is no need to. Unless there’s some Dr. Huai Bin and Mr. Veritas
thing going on that I’m not aware of. ;) I kid.

3. Does your girlfriend approve of your friendship with Veritas and the fact that you are hosting Veritas?

No. My parents are against it too, they all insist that the drug
posts would get me into trouble one day because veritas is essentially
a Keyser Soze, there’s no information about him anywhere on both the
sites and my friends have expressed concern that I might be held
legally liable for the posts which he makes, since I own the copyrights
to all of his writings and photos.

I have been under a lot of pressure to drop veritas, but this is
where I put my foot down – veritas can post all he wants as long as he
wants. I defend him because he’s my content provider. All veritas posts
are copyrighted by sixthseal.com, he relinquishes all intellectual
property rights to me. That is why I protect him and that is why he is
here to stay. Well, not here as in sixthseal.com, here as in
castitas.com. People have constantly asked why I bend over backwards
for him. This is the reason.

4. KL, Melbourne, Sarawak— what do these three places mean to you?

Kuala Lumpur
There’s always something going on somewhere. It’s easy to lose yourself
in the crowd. Choo Ki has kindly warned me about how KL is different
from other places and she’s right. I like KL because of the anonymity
it provides. Back in Sibu, you can hardly do something without word
getting back to people who you wouldn’t want to know the next day.
However KL is in Malaysia and that is a big minus due to the nature of
my interests. Malaysia is home though, and it’s where I want to be
despite the draconian drug laws.

Melbourne
Lovely Melbourne…ah, what sweet memories I have in the three years I
was there. The laws are reasonable and there are a lot of checks and
balances in place to provide a sense of security. The rave scene is
great and the availability of things is greater than Malaysia despite
the fact that Australia is essentially a big island. There’s also
something happening somewhere every day, so you won’t be bored. A place
where you can do the 4:20 in peace, unlike Malaysia.

Sibu
This is really home. It would likely be the place where I’ll be when I retire. Rx meds without a prescription anyone? ;)

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I’ll be working in an administrative position, and I’m aiming for a
monthly paycheck which has the same number of digits and first number
of what Wena is earning now. :p I will most likely still be in KL. I
would have finished my Masters degree by this time (or I will kick my
own ass) and would probably go for a doctorate just so I can go “That’s
DR Poh, not Mr Poh.” ;)

Thanks to minishorts
for the difficult to answer questions. Remind me to go for confession
this Sunday. I have to sleep now or I’ll be late for work tomorrow so
I’ll reply all comments tommorrow. Sleep beckons me…

@ Internet, Bukit Bintang

bbwebcam.jpg

Greetings from @ Internet Services at Bukit Bintang. I had wanted to
get a PC upon arrival and hook it up with the hotel’s telephone system
for net access but I was too tired the first day (didn’t get any sleep
the night before coz I was packing) to shop for components. Anyway,
today is the second day and I was at a job interview from 3 (went
early, was scheduled at 3:30 pm) till 5:45 and now I’m at a net cafe in
BB to update. Well, not only to update, one of my cell phones require a
USB port to charge because I broke the original charger and got a USB
port phone charger coz my box was almost always on back in Melbourne. I
will miss that 10 Mbps connection.

Well yeah, so one of my phones have been running low on battery ever
since I arrived, so here I am today to borrow the net cafe’s USB port
for charging my cell phone. Oh yeah, I just got a KL Digi number too,
it’s 016 303 1371, so if you can’t reach me via 016 869 0110, call this
other one instead. I have no problems giving out my cell number since
they’re both prepaid ones. :) Anyway, the KL number is easier to
remember if you think “13 to 1″ (literally) as in “The odds are 13 to
1″ in Chinese (Mandarin).

Anyway, regarding the interview, I guess it went okay, though I had
a bit of trouble with the ASP coding part coz I was more familiar with
ASP.NET and I misread the question and did in-code validation before
the database update. It seems like a great place to work at though,
it’s XM Expanded Media. They’re located at Kenaga International,
somewhere between Hotel Mutiara and Fitness First (a gym I saw on the
other side). It’s on the same road as Nouvo, if that helps. Not very
far from Bukit Bintang, I took a cab though.

Well, I’ll hear from them by Friday, so we’ll see how this interview
goes. I did mention that I run a weblog, which most career advice sites
do not advice, but I was asked about other interests in the interview
and I couldn’t think of anything besides digital photography. I did not
mention the site, but it doesn’t taka a genius to surf over,
considering I gave resume@sixthseal.com as my email address. It doesn’t
really matter anyway, because every email variation at the
sixthseal.com domain (except veritas) goes into the catch-all address,
me@sixthseal.com.

Speaking of veritas, I need to make it clear to everyone (again)
that there’s two people writing on this weblog – myself and veritas
(guest author) whos writing may not interest everyone but it is of
interest to a significant amount of people, including myself. Just a
disclaimer that not all posts in here are written under the ‘hbpoh’
nick, though veritas’s posts have photos that all have a
“sixthseal.com” text overlay and veritas’s writing and photos all fall
under the sixthseal.com intellectual property banner (as per his
wishes).

Well, I’ll be off to Petaling Jaya tomorrow, going to fix my digicam
at Nikon if the repair rates are reasonable or get a new one if they’re
not. I’m currently eyeing the Nikon 5700 and 5400, but they retail for
RM3999 here, while I was expecting somewhere along the lines of RM2800
from the US prices. I like Nikon because of their great macro
capabilities. I could take macro photos at 4 mm from the lens, a
feature I couldn’t find in most 3 – 4 MP digicams. I’m looking for a 4
– 5 MP one now though. Where’s the cheapest place to get a digicam in
KL? If there’re no retailers offering it at that price, I’m going to
get it online. Anyway, my cell phone is charged so off I go.

Oh, and since my old hard disk isn’t up yet, I don’t know if I got replied all the comments, coz I can’t check. My apologies.
