Blackout in Bukit Bintang area

There was a blackout along the Jalan Sultan Ismail road and the
surrounding areas (around Bukit Bintang) this afternoon. I heard the
power substation tripped and the affected areas included our workplace
up to the Bukit Bintang strip but not extending to the Kotaraya
section. Anyway, I was about go for a #2 when that happened and it’s
good that I didn’t or else I’ll be stuck in a rather dim toilet with
only the backup light…

bb_blackout.jpg
I would imagine process flow would suffer a hit in these conditions…

Anyway, word says it’ll take several hours for Tenaga National to
fix the problem so we had an early day off. I left at slightly past
4:30 pm so it was an early day for me. A spoiler here…tomorrow would
be my last day at XM Malaysia. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great place
to work in and the people are really nice but circumstances (a whole
plethora) resulted in my decision to resign. I’ve been keeping this
under wraps for a while, though I’ve been hinting at it, so no one
knows except several workmates.

It was not an easy decision to make, and I have definitely enjoyed
my time here. In reply to the questions about whether I would bum
around after that, the answer is no, but I can’t give more information
that that right now, hope you understand. I will be flying back on the
16th for my Chinese New Year break as planned and I would be based in a
different city starting February. It’s not KL and it’s not Sibu, can’t
say much more than that right now.

Anyway, for the C base that lurks around here, put your hearts at
ease, let your thoughts be free, I won’t cut any of you loose without a
lifeline, so SMS me at my usual number (no calls PLEASE, don’t
jeopardize me in my last few days in KL) and I’ll arrange
alternate…er, arrangements for you. Remember, SMS only and
expect a price freeze (*cough* actually expect a price drop, people
don’t work for free, ya know), the offer is valid so long as I could be
fucked to reply your messages even though I’m not in the scene now. πŸ˜‰

Well, I’ll be going back to drinking this wonderful soju called Jinro, blurry photo here:

jinro.jpg
You know you may have a problem with drinking when your
consumption is daily and er…you actually drink alone (well, not
technically alone, my gf is here, but she’s not drinking, I digress),
but hey, at least it’s legal.

while I watch Working Girl (yeah, I know I’m late, but I don’t watch
series that much). Great Taiwan series with Jolin as the
protagonist…for some reason some people can’t get into it, but I
enjoyed it, nearing the end now. Yup, I know my drinking is slightly
above what most people would consider “average”, so please feel free to
admonish me and I would promptly send all said admonishments to /dev/null. Thank you for the feedback.

BB Hailam Chicken Rice @ Bukit Bintang

bbhainanchickenrice.jpg

I went to BB Hailam Chicken Rice at Bukit Bintang for lunch after
mass today. We were in the area coz I thought the KL Horse Fair and the
Shetland ponies were still at Lot 10. Anyway, the chicken rice was
good, this is what I had:

bbhck_mymeal.jpg

Here’s a close up of the chicken:

hainan_drumstick.jpg

It’s a boneless drumstick…mmm, and the sauce is very delicious!

bbhck_kerabu.jpg

This is one of the side dishes – kerabu with chicken feet. I didn’t
order it, it tasted interesting to say the least. Too vinegary for my
tastes but the chicken feet was okay, it’s boneless as well.

bbhck_all.jpg

The middle dish is the chicken rice var roasted. The one I had is
steamed. Anyway, it’s great if you like your chicken rice with the
tender and boneless drumstick saturated with salty chicken essence. I
loved it.

Kempen Kerjaya PDRM @ Bukit Bintang

bbpolice.jpg

I’ve never seen so much police at the same place at the same time.
There was road block at Jalan Bukit Bintang and I thought there was a
major raid or something on a drug safe house at Jalan Alor or something
(considering the armored vehicles and the major police presence) but it
was a procession of some sort. I was there at around 3:30 pm and it was
called Kempen Kerjaya PDRM which I would transalate as PDRM’s (Polis
Di-Raja Malaysia – Malaysian Royal Police) Campaign of Success. It was
organized by MCA, I think. Here are the photos:

Armored police vehicles. If you find one of these outside your front gate, well…you must have done something very naughty.

dangerous_police.jpg

This red troop carrier with a mounted battering ram is particularly
puzzling. To the left are police armed with dangerous clarinets,
trumpets and saxophones.

I was overwhelmed by the sonic assault.

K9 units – My apologies for the blurry photo from behind, I used my
8X optical zoom and stayed my distance coz I’m…uh, scared of dogs.
Especially trained ones. *cough*

The big wigs sitting on the stage. I think the one in the middle is someone important in MCA.

They’re looking at something…

This is it.

Okay, this one is for the guys – a closer look at Girl #4.

Ghost festival procession photos, Bukit Bintang

pulling.JPG

Here are the photos from the Bintang Walk procession. There was a
“ghost festival procession” of some sort in Jalan Bukit Bintang
yesterday, I heard the participants are supposed to be possessed by
certain old spirits. Not sure if I got that right, but it’s a good
excuse to carry weapons and take drugs and act in a wild manner that is
above the soceity’s norms while in public and within view of law
enforcement officers. I kid! Sorry, jokes about religion are sensitive,
my apologies if I offended anyone, it was meant strictly in jest.
Anyway, please don’t flood my inbox with hate mail, you know I’m not
like that, it’s a joke, I couldn’t resist. πŸ™‚

Anyway, back to the procession, it was very interesting, the photos speak for themselves, here you go:

Well, if you ask me I think it was a datura/belladonna like substance in their tea. πŸ˜‰

@ Internet, Bukit Bintang

bbwebcam.jpg

Greetings from @ Internet Services at Bukit Bintang. I had wanted to
get a PC upon arrival and hook it up with the hotel’s telephone system
for net access but I was too tired the first day (didn’t get any sleep
the night before coz I was packing) to shop for components. Anyway,
today is the second day and I was at a job interview from 3 (went
early, was scheduled at 3:30 pm) till 5:45 and now I’m at a net cafe in
BB to update. Well, not only to update, one of my cell phones require a
USB port to charge because I broke the original charger and got a USB
port phone charger coz my box was almost always on back in Melbourne. I
will miss that 10 Mbps connection.

Well yeah, so one of my phones have been running low on battery ever
since I arrived, so here I am today to borrow the net cafe’s USB port
for charging my cell phone. Oh yeah, I just got a KL Digi number too,
it’s 016 303 1371, so if you can’t reach me via 016 869 0110, call this
other one instead. I have no problems giving out my cell number since
they’re both prepaid ones. πŸ™‚ Anyway, the KL number is easier to
remember if you think “13 to 1” (literally) as in “The odds are 13 to
1” in Chinese (Mandarin).

Anyway, regarding the interview, I guess it went okay, though I had
a bit of trouble with the ASP coding part coz I was more familiar with
ASP.NET and I misread the question and did in-code validation before
the database update. It seems like a great place to work at though,
it’s XM Expanded Media. They’re located at Kenaga International,
somewhere between Hotel Mutiara and Fitness First (a gym I saw on the
other side). It’s on the same road as Nouvo, if that helps. Not very
far from Bukit Bintang, I took a cab though.

Well, I’ll hear from them by Friday, so we’ll see how this interview
goes. I did mention that I run a weblog, which most career advice sites
do not advice, but I was asked about other interests in the interview
and I couldn’t think of anything besides digital photography. I did not
mention the site, but it doesn’t taka a genius to surf over,
considering I gave resume@sixthseal.com as my email address. It doesn’t
really matter anyway, because every email variation at the
sixthseal.com domain (except veritas) goes into the catch-all address,
me@sixthseal.com.

Speaking of veritas, I need to make it clear to everyone (again)
that there’s two people writing on this weblog – myself and veritas
(guest author) whos writing may not interest everyone but it is of
interest to a significant amount of people, including myself. Just a
disclaimer that not all posts in here are written under the ‘hbpoh’
nick, though veritas’s posts have photos that all have a
“sixthseal.com” text overlay and veritas’s writing and photos all fall
under the sixthseal.com intellectual property banner (as per his
wishes).

Well, I’ll be off to Petaling Jaya tomorrow, going to fix my digicam
at Nikon if the repair rates are reasonable or get a new one if they’re
not. I’m currently eyeing the Nikon 5700 and 5400, but they retail for
RM3999 here, while I was expecting somewhere along the lines of RM2800
from the US prices. I like Nikon because of their great macro
capabilities. I could take macro photos at 4 mm from the lens, a
feature I couldn’t find in most 3 – 4 MP digicams. I’m looking for a 4
– 5 MP one now though. Where’s the cheapest place to get a digicam in
KL? If there’re no retailers offering it at that price, I’m going to
get it online. Anyway, my cell phone is charged so off I go.

Oh, and since my old hard disk isn’t up yet, I don’t know if I got replied all the comments, coz I can’t check. My apologies.

…and I’m off

goingoff.jpg

I’ll be flying to KL tomorrow. I’m heading to Sibu airport early
tomorrow morning coz my dad has an earlier flight so we might as well
head down together. Anyway, I’ll be staying in Bukit Bintang till
Wednesday and then I’ll be staying somewhere near Petaling Street till
Sunday and then I’ll be staying with my girlfriend’s brother till 1st
of November. It’s a bit convulated, but the room I’m going to rent
won’t be vacated until next month, so that’s when I’m moving in.

Well, I’ve got an interview scheduled on Monday, the time isn’t
confirmed though, so I’ll have to call earlier to confirm the time.
Does anyone know the easiest way to go from Bukit Bintang (heart of BB)
to 27, Jalan Tun Ismail via public transport? How long will the journey
take? Anyway, I have armed myself with Mapopolis [mapopolis.com] and map of KL [virtualmalaysia.com], and there’s always a taxi if I can’t get there.

Anyway, I’ll only be able to update very sporadically in the week
starting tomorrow, daily posts is likely, but without photos. My
digicam is still broken, most recent photos have been taken using a
webcam or is from my personal stock photo collection – the random shots
I take while carrying my digicam around. The plan is to get Nikon
Malaysia to fix it or to get another one, probably the latter though,
because I can’t justify the price to fix it when a better model can be
had for a little more. Anyway, we’ll see about that. FYI, veritas sends
word that he won’t be posting for this week too, in consideration of my
quest for employment, but he’s got “experience reports (all with
photos) of buprenorphine (without naloxone), pentazocine (also w/o
naloxone), triazolam + several other benzos and a wierd zolpidem
experience, basically quite a few from The Wonderful World of
Pharmaceuticals and one rare illicit that is long due (methcathinone –
experience report ONLY)
” after this week or when I get a job, whichever one comes first. πŸ˜‰

Well, I’ve got some last minute packing to do and I’ll also have to
read up some stuff in preparation for my interview, so till next time,
see ya everyone. My apologies for not being able to reply the comments
today, but I’ll do that next time I update. Thanks!
