Anyone NOT going home for CNY?

cny ppl

I just woke up, having repaid my sleep debt for the week. I’m still feeling a little groggy though, slept for more than 18 hours (!). I was looking out my window while having a smoke, and saw two groups of people packing their bags into their cars to head home for CNY.

I’m not going home this Chinese New Year. πŸ™ I’m sure going to miss my friends back home and the traditional grand fireworks display by the good citizens of Sibu. The tickets are too expensive and I didn’t think it was worth it to be going back for just four days.

(Un)fortunately my workplace decided to implement a one week compulsory holiday since too many people are taking long leaves for CNY. I checked AirAsia when I heard the news but the tickets are sold out to be in time for the reunion dinner (tomorrow night). The return tickets are also too expensive so I think I’m just going to chill here in KL.

train man

I’ll be reading a lot, catching up on my sleep and all that. I just started on this book – Train Man, literally a translation of Japan’s 2-Channel forum about a nerdy young guy who hooks up with this girl Hermes (which was dubbed so due to the teacups of the label she gave him when he “saves” her from a drunk on a train).

train man book

Engrossing read, I love the forum format of the book. Its funny and endearing at the same time.

Anyway, more updates later tonight. I haven’t properly woken up yet, I shall go in search for food.

Since this is a random post, I shall embed a viral video that’s been going around the office like crazy December 2008. I heard it just hit a friend’s workplace:

Anyone else not going home for CNY? Come, email me and we’ll work out something. Trip to Genting perhaps? Uncle Lim’s son owes me money from a disastrous trip there last year (lost on the fourth day after a winning streak on the first three days – arrgghhh) and thus I have decided to go back this year and get it back…with interest. πŸ˜‰

There’s no such thing as a 9 to 5 in KL

condo power

Straight from the horse’s mouth – Pinky Tham Waiping, born and bred in KL. I just came back from work, have been working OT a lot lately. It’s okay with me though coz I am one of the rare (lucky?) people who like their jobs. I’m a copywriter by trade so I have to watch out for grammar and typos – but not on my blog…on my blog, I’m free to make as many mistakes as I like! It’s an outlet for me! πŸ™‚

Anyway, I saw the notice above in the condo lift just now. Some tenant who needs to attend anger management classes ripped it off, but it was stuck back by security. Power outage from 2 pm till 6 pm. Doesn’t affect me, I usually get home rather late. This is a crappy post coz I have to work on a pitch later so let us segue into something else.

pc fair

I went to PC Fair (by proxy) to get a 640 GB USB 2.0 drive and a pair of Sony MDR headphones. I couldn’t actually go coz I had to go to an event so one of my coworkers got the stuff for me. Damage to the wallet: RM 418.

comic-fiesta

I shall post again tomorrow – in the meantime, I’m going to pimp an event for a friend – Comic Fiesta. It’s going on this weekend at Sunway Convention Center. I will not be going since I’m going to Singapore for the weekend, unfortunately. Click on the link to read more about it if you’re into anime, manga, cosplay or just games in general.

Pat, you owe me lunch. πŸ˜‰

Neko

I saw a cat today at a grocery shop – it was very tame, sleeping on top of a plastic bin. I fondled, er, I mean caressed it and it didn’t flinch or even move but just gave a lazy meow. I love cats like these and it got me thinking about getting a cat. I have been deprived of feline company for too long.

I went to a pet shop and saw a Persian cat I really liked. I love her personality, she’s affectionate and playful, jumping at my fingers when I played with it and biting it (not seriously, just playfully). I love that cat and would have bought it home right away but it was going for RM 1,300 which is a little too high for my budget.

I’m still thinking about the cat right now. It’s very nice and her greatest asset is her playful and affectionate personality. She would make great lolcats posts. πŸ™‚

I love cats and I want to get one to put in my room. I’ll give it a litter box and find a lint remover to get rid of the fur she’ll shed on my clothes and sleep with it. RM 1,300 is a bit steep though…so I’m thinking about other options.

I want a cat, it would make me less lonely. πŸ™‚

A feline companion, so to speak. I hear it does wonders for depression and mood swings too. πŸ˜‰

right hand man

Of course, being the Capo di tutti capi requires the obligatory female companion and a very strong right hand man. πŸ˜‰

HDS:

2002: University life. This was when USB cell phone chargers were a bit of a novelty item. Old skool. πŸ˜‰
2003: I moved into my place in KL – it’s a small bedroom costing RM 350 per month. It fits one bed (single) and one desk (small).
2004: Limited Edition Shell mineral water and a post about the new employees at work. I was dating one of them (there’s only one female) and this was the relationship that taught me it’s a Bad Idea (TM) to be dating someone in the same office.
2005: Witty (IMHO) post about oyster pancake.
2006: Project MISER. The start of the popular Project MISER series of posts where I attempt to survive on just RM 250 a month. There are three posts.

Mini Photo Prints

You know how sometimes you only thought of a witty reply after it
has passed? Well, this is kinda like this. This one is from a couple of
days ago when me, Chris, Adrian, and Karen went to get Ung Hing from
the airport.

Saw a couple of thick 747 engineering manuals which you could probably sell to al Qaeda for er…a couple of sheep?

This is gotta go quicker coz I’m sleepy already. I only remember
what happened because the pictures are in order. Took pictures of
random stuff:

Hilton airport. I mean the airport at Hilton. No, I mean the Hilton at the airport.

I’m going to do this like those mini photo prints so you have to squint to see anything.

Oh no, I’m getting sleepier, I’m going to fall asleep before finishing this.

Had the Big Bloke BK Beef Burger. It’s the one with the
advertisement that goes around asking guys whether they want vegetables
in their burgers. You know what the answer is. This one has no vegies
whatsoever, only meat and hash browns or onion rings as the “vegies”. I
can’t even remember which it was. Uh oh, there goes my memory.

BTW, spell check thinks vegies should be spelled veggies.

This is what I had, also had the Hershey’s Chocolate Pie. Eh, it
seems that I’m going back to my one meal per day schedule nowadays. I
just couldn’t be bothered otherwise. Digression.

This one should have gone before, it’s all over the place! πŸ™‚

I’ll be for a walk on a winter’s day. I’ll be safe and warm. California

Er…yes, I like that song. It’s one from the 60s I think. By the The
Mama & The Papas I think. Although Hi-Standard did a cover on it in
one of the Fat Wreck Chords albums.

My Pop the Cop. Don’t know who it’s originally by but it’s covered
by Dickies. Strangely interesting. Even Country Road is covered in
here. Take me home, to the place where I belong. West Virginia.

I just remembered about this coz the same group plus a couple others
are going out to celebrate Karen’s birthday and head off to Moomba.

Oops…it’s nearly 7 am. Hmm…I don’t think I came across as completely sober…

*gasp* I can’t remember what happened between 2 am and 3 am…

Daylight savings has just started in Victoria, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and
Tasmania. Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia do not participate in daylight
savings. I thought it will start on the 28th this year, but it turned out to be the 27th. Bummer, I
just lost an hour. I suspected it when my computer clock showed 5:40 am but it was still dark
outside. Dawn usually comes at 5 am in spring. Oh well, the start of daylight savings mean we turn
our clocks forward 1 hour at 2 am to make it read 3 am. I always forget daylight savings time
though. I remember going to class one hour early when I was in Christchurch, NZ. I woke up and got
ready for school and wondered why my sister and my other housemates were still in bed. Only
realized what had happened when I went to my high school and found it all deserted and shit. It
happened to me the first time I came to Melbourne too…ended up going to class one hour late.
Heh.

Anyway, I saw this interesting thing happen in the Ampol gas station at the corner of Blackburn
Road and Ferntree Gully Road today. I was going to get some Chinese food from Yun Yun when I saw
three fire trucks pulled up at the gas station opposite with their lights flashing. At first I
thought it was a strike or something coz the trucks all had “Melbourne Fire Brigade Cost Cutting
Will Cost Lives” stickers all over the trucks. I went there to get some Diet Coke and saw four
firemen crowded around this big ass gas tank. The gas station attendant was very agitated and was
walking here and there, making phone calls and pulling up the chain to stop cars from driving in.
Turns out the the gas tank was leaking. I wish I had brought my camera along. It would be quite a
sight to see a gas station with the gas prices removed and the entrance and exits all chain up,
three fire trucks with the lights flashing and firemen crowded around the gas tank. I even thought
up a caption for it – “I don’t know what’s going on here…but I don’t want to be a part of it”.
Heh.

Link of the day: Boy band, but great music
[quantumlynx.com]

You’ve got to check this out. I don’t usually listen to music like this, but this one is pretty
good. Insightful lyrics too, especially the middle part.
