Madagascar Move It! 2 the Curve

Madagascar Return 2 Africa fever is running high and McDonald’s upped the thermostat with a great road show at the Curve last Sunday when I was at Cineleisure to catch the movie.

The promotional booths had games with themes like “one minute to hit it”, “one minute to throw it” and others along that line but it was the Move It Dance Competition that drew the crowd in droves.

This is the crème de la crème – it’s a group of small children doing a dance routine. It’s choreographed, but the age of the performers makes the choreography all the more remarkable. It received high accolades from both the judges and the crowd, and it was one of the first performances – certainly setting the bar high for the other teams, this one.

The Madagascar Return 2 Africa promotion by McDonald’s has three components (at least for the edible aspects, and I urge pedophiles to refrain from commenting on the dance competition with the word “edibility” in the same sentence) – the Move It Breakfast Meal (RM 11.90), the Move It Milo McFlurry (RM 5.90) and the Move It Meal (RM 14.90).

However, for the Madagascar Move It meal, I wanted them to Move It (TM) over to my condo so I called 1300-13-1300. 😉

The Madagascar Escape 2 Africa Move It meal comprises of a Double McChicken, Move It McShaker Fries, and a Green McFizz. The best part is the Move It McShaker Fries, which are flavored fries and tastes great!

If you haven’t watched the movie, you should. It’s better than the original in many ways. I particularly liked the giraffe dying hole. Oh, that had me laughing out loud. It nearly gave me a laughing fit. Morbid humor. Heh!

McDonald’s Gold Medal Meal Beijing 2008

McDonald’s is having a promotional meal for the Beijing 2008 Olympics which is due to commence today on 08/08/08. It’s called the Gold Medal Meal and consists of a Spicy Chicken McDeluxe, Onion Rings (or French Fries), Carbonated Drink and a Sundae for RM 14.80.

I went to check out the promotion just now during lunch break. It’s to get into the Olympics fever and all, since the opening ceremony will be held tonight at 8 pm. The excessive amounts of eights are due to the number 8 being an auspicious figure for the Chinese.

The Gold Medal Meal also comes with a limited edition free Coca-Cola Contour Glass. This Beijing 2008 glass features five (5) different designs – Swimming, Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, and Archery.

I’m having the worst pimple outbreak in the history of my life. I’ve never had problems with pimples or acne and I’m not sure why my face looks like a pizza right now. My friend tells me I’m just having my adolescence late…at the ripe old age of 27. I think I’m going to have to get some pimple cream before the Olympics opening ceremony tonight…which means a guide to managing pimples is coming up. 🙂

The sheer amount of food in the Gold Medal Meal is certainly a combination guaranteed to induce a post-lunch coma.

McDonald's SEGA 3 video games – BILLY'S GIANT EGG

McDonald’s just came out with BILLY’S GIANT EGG this Thursday and I just got one of the few remaining units. The packaging has a typo on it and only says BILLY’ GIANT EGG.

BILLY’S GIANT EGG is the second last electronic game in the Sega 3 series and I got a Cheeseburger Happy Meal but didn’t eat it (told the McDonald’s server that I only wanted the game, but I took the drink). 😉

The manual is printed like the previous iterations of the McDonald’s / SEGA collaboration – it’s a single sheet of paper with instructions on how to play the game – in this case BILLY’S GIANT EGG, another Sonic franchise character.

BILLY’S GIANT EGG also comes in a clamshell design and has two directional buttons in the shape of eggs. The premise of the game is to get Billy to collect fruits while the egg gets bigger and bigger (three sizes) while avoiding hazards.

Here is a screenshot of the action – BILLY’S GIANT EGG was way too easy for me. I finished the game on the first try and consistently managed to get through all three levels and hatch the egg. It was a total contrast to the previous unit’s hard gameplay.

Collect 20 fruits to advance a level and hatch the egg!

McDonald's SEGA 3 video games – TAILS SKY ADVENTURE

McDonald’s came out with the 3rd iteration of their McDonald’s / SEGA video game franchise partnership and this time it’s free with every purchase of a Happy Meal. I collected the first McDonald’s / SEGA collaboration [sixthseal.com] as well as SEGA 2 [sixthseal.com and I wasn’t about to miss the third.

TAILS SKY ADVENTURE is the first electronic game in the Sega 3 series and David was kind enough to get it for me while I was in the hospital (it was the very last set). It came with a Cheeseburger and Corn Happy Meal if that interests you, which I don’t think it does. 😉

TAILS SKY ADVENTURE opens up like a clamshell phone to reveal the game which has two directional buttons and an action button. The premise of the game is to shoot down rogue squadrons by moving left and right and pressing the button while navigating TAILS to victory.

Here is a screenshot of the action – it’s a little harder than the previous games, or perhaps I’ve just lost a lot of my hand eye coordination from the benzos and antipsychotics I’m taking coz I couldn’t even finish it after the sixth attempt!

McDonald's Foldover McValue Meal (New Recipe)

McDonald’s came out with a new and improved version of their Grilled Chicken Foldover [sixthseal.com] for reasons which I can’t comprehend since the first implementation tasted fine to me.

I capitalized on the new 2 am closing hours and went to McDonald’s at 1 am in the morning to check out their Grilled Chicken Foldover with the new recipe.

The Foldover McValue Meal costs RM 9.90 for a large meal with fries and Coke. I noticed that the packaging for the Grilled Chicken Foldover has changed as well.

The Grilled Chicken Foldover now comes in a muted brown instead of a dark rouge packaging and the graphics has been given an overhaul as well, probably to differentiate the “old” Grilled Chicken Foldover and the “new” Grilled Chicken Foldover.

The ad for the new Grilled Chicken Foldover describes it as “Lightly-grilled chicken patties, fresh lettuce, onions and tomatoes. Now with enhanced garlic flavor in our mayonnaise and added veggies like carrots, red and white cabbage.”

The same flatbread and dual chicken patty concept is used and the only recipe changes are garlic and some vegetables. I ate it last night and it tasted the same to me.

I honestly can’t tell the difference between the old and new Grilled Chicken Foldover.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t.

McDonalds in Thailand

McDonald’s in Thailand has one important menu item that Malaysia doesn’t – pork. The Thai sure love their pork (and mangos) over here. I make it a point to go to McDonald’s in every country I visit (and managed to drag MDC with me despite her new found reluctance for all things McDonalds).

The McDonald’s at Siam Paragon (the newest shopping center in Bangkok) has a nice interior – there is ample seating and iPod stations for listening to music. I checked out the Thai McDonald’s menu and couldn’t read it so I got passed and English menu. I found four different menu items – McSalad Shaker, Samurai Pork Burger, McPork Burger and Pepper Chicken Burger and ordered them all.

Samurai Pork Burger (66 baht)

The Samurai Pork Burger was ordered as a large value meal so it came with fries and Coke. The Samurai Pork Burger is wrapped in an appropriately aggressive red wrapper.

Samurai Pork Burger consists of a pork patty topped with mayonnaise and lettuce. I don’t know what’s so Samurai about this concoction but it tastes great eating pork. Malaysia doesn’t server pork due to religious considerations.

McPork Burger! I just love the name. McPork! McPork! McPork!

The McPork Burger is the lower end offering (equivalent to a no frills cheeseburger) priced at 19 baht (about RM 1.90) and it comes in a purple wrapper and has pork in it. Mmm…(Mc)Pork.

Pepper Chicken Burger (23 baht)

MDC ordered this one coz I ordered all the pork. The pepper chicken burger comes in a blue wrapper and tastes like chicken. 😉

Pepper Chicken Burger in Thailand is not slathered with pepper sauce but rather grounded pepper on a deep fried crumbly chicken patty. It’s alright, but it’s not pork.

McSalad Shaker (32 baht)

McSalad Shaker is the current promotion in Thailand and it’s salad in a plastic container with a choice of “Salad Cream” (mayo) or 1000 Island Dressing.

The McSalad Shaker in Thailand has REAL HAM as in ham made out of pork like God intended it to. MDC says it makes all the difference in the salad. It certainly made it very savory.

McDonald's Spicy FIFA World Cup Soccer Star promotion

McDonald’s is having a promotion in line with the upcoming World Cup football season – it’s called the McDonald’s Spicy FIFA World Cup Soccer Star promotion and they have four meal sets with a spicy theme to commemorate the event.

McDonald’s Spicy FIFA World Cup promotion comes with the tagline “The heat is on! Support your star!” with four menu items designated Soccer Star A (Spicy Chicken Supreme), Soccer Star B (Spicy Chicken McNuggets), Soccer Star C (Spicy Ayam Goreng McD) and Soccer Star D (Spicy Chicken McDeluxe).

The McDonald’s Spicy FIFA World Cup Soccer Star promotion also includes the option of purchasing GOLEO VI (Soccer Star E) for RM 9.90 each. There are four options – Striker Red, Defender Yellow, Referee Black and Winger White. GOLEO VI is the 2006 FIFA World Cup Official Mascot.

There are two new items in this promotion – the Spicy Chicken Supreme and Spicy Chicken McNuggets. The Spicy Chicken Supreme comes in a long card box and is a sub style sandwich with a long chicken patty with spiced batter inside a wheat bran bun.

Spicy Chicken Supreme tastes good – the spiced chicken patty goes well with the wheat bran bun. It would make a nice addition to the permanent menu of McDonald’s as this sandwich is large and filling.

However, the Spicy Chicken McNuggets is the real gem in this promotion. McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets has been given the spicy treatment and the result is fabulous! The Spicy Chicken McNuggets are coated with a special chilli infused batter that truly elevates it from a variant menu item to a valid new addition.

Spicy Chicken McNuggets are surprisingly hot. The batter is really spicy, even by my standards. It’s a must try for people who haven’t tasted this yet…I was surprised a mass market appeal franchise like McDonald’s would make such spicy items. It gets two thumbs up from me!

McDonald’s Spicy FIFA World Cup Soccer Star promotion also features GOLEO VI as a primary attraction – I got Striker Red and Defender Yellow for RM 9.90 each.

McDonald's McDelivery damn McInefficient and made me damn McTulan

McDonald’s McDelivery is using a centralized ordering system for all branches throughout Malaysia using its 1300-13-1300 number, which is based in Klang Valley. I had a McAttack last night (not a McHeartAttack, you only get those after the meal) and surfed to McDonald’s McDelivery website to get the number to call.

They insisted delivery services close after 10 pm. I asked them for the Kuching McDonald’s branch number and called that number.

Kuching told me that delivery services is open till 11 pm. Unfortunately, I cannot order through them as I had to go through the 1300 centralized system in Klang Valley.

I called the 1300 number and told them about Kuching’s later delivery services and they insisted that delivery services in Kuching closes at 10 pm. F@*(#*&@#!!!oneone how dare you tell me when Kuching delivery closes when you’re not in Kuching, idiot-on-a-phone!!!!!oneonefuckone!!!

I got super McPissedOff and (insert standard procedure to deal with uncooperative front line staff) and they finally relented and put my order though.

The McDonald’s McDelivery staff finally reached my place at about 11 pm. Damn McDonald’s…what if I was McStoned and McDrunk and McFuckedUp and drove to the outlet instead and McHit-and-Run innocent grandmothers rolling a trolley while McDrivingWhileIntoxicated?

McDonald’s Prosperity Burger Chicken and Prosperity Desserts

McDonalds’s is having their inaugural promotional burger – the Prosperity Burger
to commemorate the Chinese New Year celebrations. The Prosperity Burger
is an elongated burger with a beef patty (chicken this year) saturated
with black pepper sauce and onions.

The Prosperity Burger 2006 now implements a chicken
patty instead of a beef patty, which makes sense from a marketing point
of view – a chicken burger would have a larger demographic compared to
a beef patty (missing out on the Hindu market).

Everyone eats chicken except vegetarians and vegans, but those
people shouldn’t be going to McDonald’s anyway. 😉 The recent years has
watched a shift in the Prosperity Burger set from just the burger
itself to the introduction of curly fries (first debut in ’94 as a side
order with the Sambal Burger, and yes I’m such a McDonald’s geek :p).

The past two years has also witnessed the introduction of the
tagline “Enjoy the Many Tastes of Prosperity” with the whole range of
the Prosperity Burger set as well as “Prosperity Desserts”. The Orange
McFizz (Sprite with Minute Maid OJ) comes standard with the meal and
there are orange themed desserts – the Peach Orange sundae and the
Peach Orange McFlurry with come under the banner of Prosperity Desserts.

Twister Fries replaces the standard fries in this
Prosperity Burger meal. It’s a twisty version of fries that seems like
it has been dunked into the deep fryer more than once, giving it a
crispy outer layer. It’s great, especially when you bite straight
through the spiral, spawning multiple mini Twister Fries. 🙂

This is the Orange McFizz – a relatively recent
introduction which sees the mixture of Minute Maid orange juice with
Sprite. It tastes surprisingly good (and it has Vitamin C) and it has
earned its place in McDonald’s permamenu. It’s now paired with the
Prosperity Burger meal to complete the orange themed spirit (Mandarin
oranges and orange = gold = wealth).

This is the Peach Orange sundae (RM 2.80) which
comes in an orange swirl of colors, with the abstract orange syrup
adorning the entire circumference of the sundae cup and with the
presentation topped off with Mandarin orange pieces and peach chunks.

The Peach Orange McFlurry (RM 4.50) is the McFlurry
version of the Peach Orange sundae. It tastes the same and also has the
orange and peach pieces blended into the concoction, giving it the
distinctive orange hue.

This is the main feature of the meal – the Prosperity Burger
(RM 9.88). It didn’t come in the Prosperity Burger wrapper coz it’s
probably too early on and I berated them for not having it yesterday
even though they were advertising it (partly due to the fact that I had
to search for a parking space and thus, I took it out on them ;)). The
burger didn’t look too good, and there must have been a mess up
somewhere coz I KNOW for a fact that Prosperity Burger has always had
onions – raw onions at that, that’s why I love them.

The Prosperity Burger didn’t have the thick slathering of black
pepper sauce that was in all the previous iterations of the Prosperity
Burger and the square cut chicken patty looks so familiar it evoked a
strong feeling of déjà vu…and then it clicked! It’s the EXACT same
patty used in the McDonald’s Grilled Chicken Foldover [sixthseal.com] that tanked! They’re reusing the exact same patty for the Prosperity Burger!

McDonald’s Grilled Chicken Foldover

McDonald’s just came out with a new menu addition – Grilled Chicken Foldover. The tagline goes “The BIG taste sensation that’s here to stay!” and there is a “100% white chicken meat”
logo on the promotional posters too. Hmm…I didn’t know there was any
other kind of chicken meat. Last I heard, all chickens are considered
as white meat. 😉

The description goes “Treat yourself to the big taste sensation of
two lightly-grilled 100% white chicken meat patties, crispy lettuce,
juicy tomatoes and fresh onions, all topped with creamy garlic
mayonnaise and tightly tucked into a tasty toasted flatbread.”. The
packaging of the Grilled Chicken Foldover is really nice, with a custom
made full body cardboard wrap with detailed illustrations.

The back of the McDonald’s Grilled Chicken Foldover is no less
detailed, and the quality of the custom made cardboard wrap is quite
impressive.

The Grilled Chicken Foldover is nested inside the custom cardboard
wrap, with an “Easy-Tear” (just a trademark able word for
“perforation”) going around the entire body.

This is what the McDonald’s Grilled Chicken Foldover looks like –
there’s a herb infused flatbread covering two chicken meat patties. The
packaging is pretty nifty too, it only opens up the upper half of the
Grilled Chicken Foldover so that it can be enjoyed without soiling the
user’s fingers (coz the bottom half has the packaging intact).

Here’s a closer look at the inside of the Grilled Chicken Foldover –
it has two oblong shaped flat grilled chicken patties (it looks like a
steak cut) and other vegetables topped with garlic mayo inside the
folded flatbread…
