Shiki Japanese Restaurant

shiki

I went to Shiki Japanese Restaurant with Kim and Mark straight after I arrived in Miri. Kim came and picked me up and we got there at around 8 pm. I lost all the photos from that night due to The Balcony Incident. This photo was obviously taken the next day since it’s daylight in the picture. πŸ˜‰ I wanted to reshoot the interior too but Shiki was closed when I got there the next day. The rest of the photos are from Kim. Thanks Kim! πŸ™‚

shiki chi don

I had Shiki Chi Don (RM 32.80) which has an assortment of raw seafood like salmon, squid, tuna and octopus nicely arranged on a bed of fragrant rice with pineapples. It tasted good and the presentation was excellent but I couldn’t finish the rice due to a late lunch during the road trip from Sibu to Miri.

shiki shochu

Shiki has Sapporo and Asahi beer but they ran out of both so I went for the Jinro Plum shochu (RM 42.80) which the proprietor recommended. It’s imported from Japan and it tasted nice for a premium shochu.

shiki me kim

It was great to meet up with Kim. It was actually a bit of a last
minute thing since I only left a comment with my cell phone number on
her blog the day before I went to Miri. She texted me when I was in Tatau (somewhere between Sibu and Miri) and I called her back and made a dinner date with her at 8 pm. I also got in touch with Darren and the four of us went for drinks at
Island Club after dinner at Shiki. It was great to finally put a face
behind the blogger(s). πŸ™‚

shiki group

This is a group photo of us at Shiki – Mark kindly picked up the bill, which came up to RM 138.46 for the three of us. Cheers!

Eddy Puah’s birthday @ Workshop

workshop

Workshop is one of the more private drinking establishments in town
with a regular crowd of patrons. Eddy had his birthday last Saturday night
there with a group of close friends.

condom collection

I had quite a lot of events going on
Saturday so it was a little hectic for me. I went with Faye to Condom Collection late evening to get Eddy a birthday present. It’s the only adult
entertainment shop in Sibu and I wanted to get Eddy something other than
the usual de facto necktie gift.

eddy present

I settled for a pair of edible undies (RM 24.90) and a stress ball made in the shape of a nude female torso (RM 19.90).

edible undies

The Edible Undies is…well, edible and contains the following disclaimer:

edible undies back

Edible Undies is sold as a novelty item only, and has no nutritional value. Garment will dissolve in water or excessive moisture.

stress keychain

The
Stress Reliever Key Chain is perfect for work related stress. I’m a big fan of stress
balls as well, but I figured popping Xanax would look less conspicuous.
Better living through chemistry…for every problem, a chemical solution!
πŸ˜‰

stress back

It has the tagline: Let go of all your anger, tension and frustration with the STRESS RELIEVER K.C.

eddy gift

Faye told me that wrapping presents
has fallen out of vogue and suggested we put the items in a store
purchased but handmade self sealing paper bag. I agreed since I’m not a
big fan of wrapping stuff myself, so I wrote a birthday message on the
paper bag and we passed it to Eddy.

workshop hub

Workshop is designed to look like a
car workshop. There are neon illuminated wheel hubs on the walls and even
the tables are propped up with hubcaps from discarded tyres.

workshop interior

The
wine was on free flow courtesy of Eddy and I consumed quite a lot of the
red stuff. I remember belting out a particularly heartfelt rendition of
Creep (Radiohead) after a couple of hours there.

workshop pool

I also
played pool with Faye and as usual, she kicked my ass, not because she’s
better at it (or so I’ll like to think) but because I’m usually more
inebriated than her every time we play.

Happy birthday Eddy! =D

Lisa’s baby shower

lisa cheng

Lisa Cheng is now a mom! She gave birth to a healthy baby boy and we went to the baby shower after work yesterday. His name is Ethan (as in Ethan Hawk) and there were about 20 of us old ex-classmates there for the baby shower at her home. It’s a strange feeling, being old…it’s just not that long ago that we were just 17 years old and having fun in high school. Fast forward to a decade later and we’re all now 27 and life just isn’t that simple anymore.

lisa group

This is a rather blurry photo taken of the Class of ’97. I felt a little envious at some of the married couples with kids. I really want to find someone nice to settle down with and have little ones running about and all that. I won’t go out drinking Saturdays but wake up early on Monday to bring the kids to McDonald’s or to their grandparents. I thought that was dull and boring just a couple of years ago, but I swear to God, sometimes I want that kind of life so badly. Oh well…

Cherie is Luconia

cherie is luconia group

Cherie has recently left for KL and it is much to our surprise (or maybe not) that we’ve come to think of Cherie as Luconia and the place just doesn’t seem the same without her anymore. I was talking to David the other day and we were talking about finding a new watering hole considering the massive staff resignations and management chance in Luconia (Post-Cherie). This photo is from the good old days of Luconia (Pre-Cherie).

cherie is luconia

I’m only writing about this since there’s a lot of Cherie fans out there. I usually don’t write this much about my personal life.

cherie is luconia crop

Cherie was a good girlfriend and a close friend to me and I’ll always remain her friend. She called and told me to call her up when I’m in KL.

cherie is luconia us

It was fun when we were together, but all good times must pass and we shall find a new watering hole to satiate our appetites for ethanol based drinks soon coz Luconia just isn’t the same without you.

…and like I always said, when it was good, it was great, right? πŸ˜‰

P/S – Here’s a bonus picture of Cherie since you guys like her so much:

FedEx Cookies from Rene in Singapore

rene fedex

I got a call from the office telling me that a package has arrived for me from Singapore from Rene. I went to the office to pick it up before going to the airport coz it contained cookies and I wanted to eat them. πŸ˜‰

rene gift

It just took a couple of days for the package to be sent from Singapore to Kuching, Malaysia. It was declared “non-perishable” and a “personal gift” so perhaps that’s why it cleared customs so rapidly.

rene open

I couldn’t wait until I got to Sibu to sample the cookies to I called Rene to thank her for the package and opened it up. There are five (5) containers of her home made chocolate chip cookies in various wonderfully decorated tins.

rene england

I took one of the tins and opened it up…

rene cookies

…to reveal Rene’s home made chocolate chip cookies!

rene chocolate chip cookies

It tastes delicious!

rene newmans

…and she also threw in a box of Newman’s Caramel Thins (a non-perishable) for good measure.

rene writing

Thanks a lot Rene! The cookies are delicious!

Joel What?

joel what

Joel (who is one tall dude, look at the door in comparison ;)) was kind enough to send me a much needed package of reinforcements. It is from the call for assistance regarding the lack of opiate agonist during a difficult time. He came in person and passed me a package addressed to Encik Satirev Foaf which seems benign enough to the person that collects the mail…

joel what package

…but is actually veritas spelled backwards appended with FOAF (Friend of a Friend – a common drug user scene term).

joel what letter

The package contains a letter (thanks Joel!) and two blister packs of Nurofen Plus [sixthseal.com] – a codeine containing preparation that is the first opiate agonist post ever made on sixthseal.com.

joel what nurofen

The Nurofen Plus blister packs comes in packs of 12 caplets (which are non-splittable) x 2, in the form of a box of 24 caplets of containing 200 mg of Ibuprofen + 12.8 of codeine per caplet.

joel what nurofen plus

It is nostalgic indeed to revisit the N+ codeine love…I took 22 tablets for 281.6 mg of codeine just now. Thanks for everything Joel! Have a safe flight back to Manchester.

(and sorry for butchering your name in the title)

Happy Birthday Irene Chan Ai Ling! =D

irene 21st

Okay, this is a rather belated post – Irene had her birthday on the 25th of March and I got fucked up that night and also Sunday night so I didn’t post until today. I was working OT that Saturday (crunch time for a project) so we just met up for drinks at Luconia.

irene 21st white packet

I got Irene something very cheesy for her birthday. It was funny, at least with my increasingly demented sense of humor. There were three things inside, two of them I told her she could probably guess (which she did, it was plywood ;)) but she didn’t get the third one coz it’s just too cheesy.

irene 21st trio

This is me, Irene and David. I think we were pretty much fucked up by that time…at least I was. Hell, I’ve been fucked up since 7 pm. πŸ™‚

Happy Birthday Irene Chan Ai Ling [blogspot.com] ! Much <3 !

P/S – Aries rulez!!!!1oneone. You’re technically legal now, Irene! =D

"Look at your 11 O'clock"

k joanne airport

I took a flight back to Sibu on 2:20 pm on Saturday afternoon and just got into the departure lounge when I received a phone call from Joanna [sixthseal.com]. I picked up my cell and she asked me to look at my 11 o’ clock. She was sitting right opposite me at the other side of the lounge and her flight was boarding to KL.

k after k

We haven’t seen each other for quite a while so we decided a trip to the toilet (to powder our noses, I’m vain too, ya know ;)) was in order. We had to rush to the toilet before her flight departs and after…er, catching up on things, rushed back just in time to board her flight. It was such a rush, in every sense of the word. πŸ˜‰

k light tripping

I was sitting there (my flight departs 20 minutes later) watching the on-going construction and seeing the light radiate heat waves and I remember thinking something along the lines of light being the foundation of civilization.

k snorting clouds

It was a Fokker 50 flight and I remember looking out the plane and thinking about snorting clouds (sure beats snorting kittens).

k snorting rivers

…and even snorting rivers.

It totally gave new meaning to the term flying high. πŸ˜‰

k portable k

It was great meeting you again Joanne, as always. It’s always a pleasure to meet you. Heh!

P/S – I’ll be flying back to Kuching 7:25 am tomorrow morning. sixthseal.com was down for the most of last night and today, my apologies about that. It was a hard disk issue – the commenting system was down as well, but everything is sorted now. Cheers!

Lucas and Jess from Zurich, Switzerland

lucas jess luconia

This is Lucas and Jess from Zurich, Switzerland. Jess is from Kuching and met Lucas (a Swiss) in NZ and now they’re living in Switzerland together. I met them at Luconia – apparently Jess reads my blog and recognized me. It’s a pleasure meeting with the both of you. Have a safe flight back!

I will be going to KL tomorrow on a business trip. I will be free on Friday and Sunday, let’s go clubbing on Saturday night, FA!
